【Refined Pe*vert X Pure Little Vixen】

【Alternate Apocalypse + Double virg*n Love + Lots of Private Settings】

The popular starlet Pei Xiqing transmigrated into an apocalyptic novel about punishing s*umbags, becoming a femme fatale with nothing but seductive looks—she couldn’t even seduce anyone and ended up as a despised side character.

While the male and female leads were sweetly punishing s*um in the apocalypse, she was one of the s*um being punished.

At the start, she was abandoned by the protagonist squad; in the end, she became a mindless, clawing zombie with no intact skin, finally dying under the guns of the male and female leads.

The damage was done, so Pei Xiqing chose to give up.

Rather than being timid and submissive, she might as well join the zombie ranks.

Everyone thought Pei Xiqing’s death was satisfying, and even wanted to see her ugly, pus-covered zombie face begging for mercy.

Until one day, the zombie outbreak exploded again in the apocalypse.

The protagonist squad kept losing ground, miserable and struggling, while a beautiful zombie leisurely took selfies in the zombie horde.

Just as the male and female leads were pushed to a desperate corner by the zombies and tried to fight their way out, the beautiful, delicate zombie next to them was calmly packing up, ready to flee.

Who would’ve thought that the famously cold and ruthless Chief Arbiter—who was known for showing no mercy to zombies—would suddenly hold that pretty zombie in his arms and carry her away.

“Baby, caught you.”

As someone who personally enjoys tr*shy novels and will read just to read, this novel is okay.

Is the writing particularly good? Eh...

Is the pacing alright? Kinda...

... more>> Is this novel mediocre? Yeah.

This novel is definitely not one you go into expecting a hidden masterpiece or some amazing writing. From a highly critical perspective, this novel is nothing special. MC and ML meet, fall in love, find out this about that character, oh no a 2nd ml, this plot point, that plot point, ya-da ya-da. From someone who just likes to read books with no critical thinking skills, I liked it. Do I like it alot? No, but it's a decent book. Good to pass the time, good to mindlessly scroll, and good to just read.

The only thing that I would say makes this novel different from novels of a similar concept is MC is a unreliable narrator.

I'm not sure if it's intentional or not but MC will often say one thing and do another. Not in a way that is overly annoying or overly subtle though.

Spoiler

Off the top of my head, MC often says her priority is her survival, and yet she throws herself into a base full of zombies for the ML. Or she says she needs to toughen up, but is still kind.

[collapse]

You can see this as poor writing, or just as mc's flaw. Up to you.

I think what made me continue reading it was I wanted to see where this novel was going. There's a lot of information hinted at, but not told.

Spoiler

There are a lot of mentions of "what happened 5 years ago" and throwbacks to a lot of the characters' pasts.

[collapse]

Once again, you can see this as poor writing or a writing device to keep the reader's attention.

In conclusion, at best, this novel is okay, at worst, it's generic. <<less

I won't rate it since I dropped it early on. The idea isn't bad per se, but the novel reads like something written by an inexperienced author who tried (but ultimately failed) to give popular tropes a creative twist.

The FL is decent, although rather contradictory. She made a living as an actress who relied on her beauty to gain crazy boyfriend fans, then transmigrated into a girl who used her looks to flirt her way into teams and obtain resources/benefits from men. While this "seductress" setting can be somewhat controversial,... more>> I'm not opposed to flawed or unusual protagonists. The issue here is that she's portrayed as innocent, naive, and uninterested in men, making the setup feel both pointless and contradictory. Aside from her ability to shrug off hatred and mockery from her past shameless deeds, she's basically the typical chinese FL (delicate, obedient, and pure). Even so, she's strangely the most reasonable character, at least her doubts and actions kinda make sense.

As for the other characters, they're paper-thin. They exist to serve a function (either to support the FL or to push a plot device) and show little to no depth beyond typical archetypes like the tsundere, dominant black-belly, casanova, plain-but-kind, pe*verted cannon fodder, and cool older sister. Characters are strangely unbothered about the FL biting and infecting the ML with the zombie virus—let alone the possibility of being bitten themselves. Anyone who justifiably expresses concern is villainized.

So far, the plot has been rather simple, and I'm not particularly interested in continuing.

Spoiler

She transmigrated into the body of a soon-to-be-zombified, hateful younger sister of the original FL. She was found and threatened by the ML and his team, who discovered she's a special zombie. She was kicked out by other survivors, then brought back by the ML (whom she bit while half-conscious and then had to gouge out the infected flesh). This awakened his long-lost superpower (and his libido). She later met the ori-ML, got taken to a survivor base, got a glimpse of the black market for pet zombies, and then had a passionate encounter with the ML during one of his work meetings.

[collapse]

In short, the plot and characters aren't well-developed, and both the FL and ML halos are too strong (almost giving off Mary Sue vibes). If you enjoy stories where "everyone magically loves her and anyone who doesn't must be a villain, " combined with a fast-paced supernatural romance, this might be ok for a light read. Personally, I didn't find it particularly engaging. <<less
