(Inner palace scheming + household power struggles + medical skills + face-slapping plot + strong female lead)

Twin lotuses blooming on the same stalk, one yin, one yang, never to meet.

Chaochao Tang had grown up in a Daoist temple on Misty Mountain since childhood.

At sixteen, she received a letter from home—her twin sister, whom she’d never met, had died.

Chaochao Tang descended the mountain without a second thought. Not only did she open the coffin to examine the body, she stirred up the entire capital.

“My father is Assistant Minister Xu Huairen. You little priestess dare hit me?”

Chaochao Tang grinned wide. “I’m hitting your d**n dad!”

“Are you crazy? I’m the Prime Minister’s daughter, and you dare torture me?”

Chaochao Tang grinned again. “Not only will I hit you, I’ll f***ing kill you too!”

Emperor Kangjian: “Princess Chao’an, you must stop hanging heads on the gates of the princes’ residences!”

Chaochao Tang grinned. “Yes, Your Majesty!” And next time, she’d still do it.

Emperor Kangjian: “Princess Chao’an, it’s fine to investigate cases, but stop abducting people! Chancellor Xie has gone mad searching for his daughter!”

Chaochao Tang grinned. “Okay, next time I’ll interrogate them at their doorstep!”

A certain determined but disabled prince: “Whoever you want to kill next time, Chaochao, I’ll hand you the knife.”

Chaochao Tang curled her lips. “Sounds good!”

All those femme fatales and twisted schemes—her fists get the final say!

Pretty fun, MC is like a grenade, wherever she passes she just blows it all up.

The main object is to find who killed the twin sister and get revenge. And it's not simple, at first it seemed like it would be, since there are so many minor plots involving noble girls' jealousy, but as more characters join, it gets more complicated, plus none of these bastards reveal things easily.

The plot is fine semi-cliche chinese royal drama going on, then there are the annoying family relationships, s*upid noble peers. One gripe... more>> I always have with this kind of dramas is how unnecessarily vicious these supporting characters always are. I don't know... maybe it's realistic in that setting but I don't like to see it. Thankfully MC is super fresh and pleasant, she always deals with things in the most straightforward way, usually violence.

The ML is obviously that prince Lin, I'm so not a fan of this plotline, nothing wrong with the guy, but he's literally just another copypasta perfect male lead that the FL just doesn't need, she's already the whole package. ML has the most handsome looks, status, riches, secret identity, secret army, oh he's also extremely powerful physically. Can we start humanizing male leads please? What even is the point with him being ML, there's no challenge, if at some point FL has difficulty just summon ML. Okay, don't erase the whole character, let's suppose he's just not ML, at least then FL would have to pay the price for cooperation, she'd also not be able to trust him fully, the plot would feel more risky. Romance ruins a lot of great aspects about a good MC and plot.

Edit:

Spoiler

i kind of skipped through to much later chapters and actually, the tone changes sooo much. There are large scale wars and mystic practices, like cultivation. MC becomes a general.

A lot of enemies are forgiven, for example the paternal family. Actually the large scale war seems to be the most important plot here, because almost everybody united against a common enemy. And it also seems like the plot behind twin sister's death had to do with the enemy country's prince.

And then I skipped towards the ending and it's even more shocking,

twin sister is actually alive???? She was also a mastermind of what happened, I didn't fully get it, but it's like she had divinated a lot of things, she also lost her eyesight because of that ability. She seems very supernatural, also she went off the grid with the 5th prince at the end, both declared dead officially. Most unsatisfying part is she never met MC, her parents also possibly don't know she's alive...

[collapse]

Anyway, maybe I called out ML too harsh, he doesn't seem bad later on, complements MC well.

Honestly comparing the way this story starts off, even up to chapter 80, it develops completely differently, it drops all that weird backyard scheming and it's like all these little plots are forgotten. Then it picks up on more serious matters. Yea, I didn't like the early stuff, it felt completely pointless based on the way it developed. <<less
