At midnight, with two hoots of owls, Xu Wang was involved in a world called “Owl”, dividing his life into two parts: “day reality” and “night mission completed”.

Xu Wang: I met my white moonlight, who I had a crush on in high school and who turned me down, now has become my team partner in the world of mission completed. I was very flustered.

Wu Sheng: I met the man who bore in my mind in mission completed world. Although I was rejected that year, I would like to try again.

Owl: Which one of you had a crush on the other? Who was turned down? How am I confused about this…

    1. I came across this book a long time ago but since the sypnosis is not my cup of tea, I didn't read it
    1. So first basically MC and ML got into a game? They need to complete 23 stage (I think they change this, not sure how much)
    1. MC is your typical MC, he is shameless but not too shameless at the same time.
    2. Spoiler

When MC and ML first met, MC kiss him and the second time he met ml, he lie to them that it's just a way of leaving a deep impression. There is not much of MC action that leave impression to me as I just read it until chap24. MC has a secret box? But author doesn't explain what's in it.

      [collapse]
    1. ML is not the typical cold and overbearing but the type that is funny but at the same time he is aloof. Like he often argue with MC (not argue but exchanging word)
    2. Spoiler

is secretly I love with MC. I can tell. He's rich. He take care MC.

      [collapse]
    1. The interaction between MC and Ml
    1. Spoiler

They are like a married couple. Their interaction was super funny and entertaining. They kinda have like a mutual understanding

      [collapse]
    1. This story perspective is not only on MC but his teammates also. The time when
    2. Spoiler

they are in the airplane, the MC doesn't get much of scene

      [collapse]
I rate this 5/5 I might change it but it depends

I really like this story and it’s characters.

First of all I like the team work to close the game, it doesn’t depend on a single person and requires joint effort. Nobody is OP (except maybe Wu Sheng lol).

I did have a few questions after reading this like why are there no females at all, but it was answered in the second story called Midnight Ten, which I definitely recommend reading.

I was hoping we’d get some side stories about the NPCs like the hungry ghost, it’s kind of sad they didn’t... more>> get to meet him again although they said they’d be back.

This story is more light hearted and funny compared to the second part, and is more of a buildup. Overall I enjoyed reading it and I might reread in the future. <<less

Its amazing. I'd recommend reading it. This story doesn't just focus on the main characters but also on his team mates and others. So I think its pretty well rounded.

  1. This novel is good, specially for those who are fed up of mc-focused novels.. The supporting characters are all good and interesting (specially Chi Yingxue). The only thing that I dont like in this novel is that we didnt get to see 14-23 levels of the owl since they decided
    Spoiler

to close the 1-13 levels for good. I still want to see chi yingxue in action since he got into the team late and he's so badass too when fighting

Wow. Unlimited flow with 4 absolute idiots. Literally.

Today morning, I just woke up and suddenly had the urge to read midnight owl.

I think this is one of those novels where the main characters don't feel so far out of reach because these guys are clearly high school students journeying together and it is so fun.

... more>> PLOT:

I can't remember the arcs exactly since I read it a while back but let me tell you, compared to the many infinite flows I've read, Midnight owl has some of the most unique IF arcs ever if not one of the most unique IFs as well.

The thought processes and engagement of each and every arc was amazing, the other characters, npcs and what-not each had such vivid and three dimensional personalities and motives that it truly felt like that was a real world where people from Earth were genuinely being pulled into this game like world by an owl. I can still remember so many scenes vividly despite it being years since I read it, sure it may not suit everyone's taste due to the lack of seriousness in a supposedly dangerous setting but it's much better than QQGK in that sense.

The story was wrapped up really well by the way. I really liked the last arc.

CHARACTERS:

Wu Sheng: Okay, I initially thought I reviewed this novel already due to somehow remembering making a huge rant about him only to realize I was probably hallucinating. Wu Sheng is pretty much my alter ego. Literally, he is me. Pretentious, self-centered and everything INTJ, even the way he falls in love is like me. It was quite shocking! Don't worry I encrypted my confession in a poem and have timed the intervals not like this idiot. Dumbass lol.

Xu Wang: Oh Xu Wang you really, the most npc like existence in this book. He's so cute I want to bash him, he's actually so good I can't even rationally talk about him because he's just a little sweetheart.

All other characters, side cps and what not are extremely interesting too, I especially loved the beautiful guy I forgot his name but the one with the split personality hahah, I won't spoil, won't spoil.

ROMANCE:

Now I need to talk about this because it's so important, in IF novels I think Wu Sheng and Xu Wang have one of the best romances ever. I absolutely bit my lips bloody reading about them because I was losing my absolute shit. The development is very realistic especially considering the dumbass misunderstanding they had (It was so funny I cursed for 2 hours straight) Either way they were already married so everything else is extra anyway..

——————

I really love this novel and believe it deserves more recognition. Seriously.

Yan Liang Yu is so good.

Highly recommend <<less

okay, not so long review since I'm not finished yet, but I don't regret picking up this novel.

the start may seem like a drag or the events are lackluster, but they're a necessary buildup towards the later chapters. It took me quite a while to get past the first few chapters but it was worth it.

the MC, xu wang, is funny and not perfect. He's not the "strong and op" MC people are looking for, but he has his strengths sometimes. It feels like you're truly beside him with the... more>> journey as you read. He has his flaws, but as the captain of his group, he learns to manage.

wu sheng isn't the typical cold, blank, a man of few words type. I like how he has a personality, and his banters with xu wang always makes me laugh. The both of them really love each other, and it doesn't feel like it's only the ML that is in love unlike other novels where it's always the ML doing things.

xu wang's team is so cool. I love them so much. They can be s*upid at times (lightheartedly) and that's what makes this an enjoyable read. The author didn't put them in an extremely high pedestal (?) or whatever. You get to witness their hardships and commitment to clear each level.

i do get confused sometimes reading the story, but I suspect it's my sleep deprivation. The story is written in a good structure, too. Feels like you're reading an actual professional work (or am I sugarcoating?) either way, I love midnight owl. My favorite character is chi yingxue, and although he has not made so much of an appearance considering my progress, he's had an impact on me. The author really wrote him in a way that would attract my attention to him. Looking forward to finishing this! <<less
