Short, sweet, cute, heartbreaking, heartwarming.

Contrary to what many people here have said, I don't think we need some time to know that the ML loves the MC. He loves him to death (literally) and back. Just look at ... more>>

The way his hands trembled when he received MC's diagnosis report, even though MC himself didn't feel very sad.

The way he gave up his high paying job and his flourishing career just to come back and take care of MC in his final days in the name of being a 'sugar baby'. Let's be clear, he was far richer than MC.

Even after MC's death, he kept looking for daoist priests to call back MC's ghost so that they could have a wedding, so that he had one last connection to each other. He knew he had to let MC go, because he couldn't see him 'living' as a ghost. He knew they were separated by death but he wanted MC to be the only person he loved.

He lived without MC and fulfilled all the wishes MC had. MC, in turn, gave up his chance to reincarnate and waited for 'his family's handsome pig' so that they could reincarnate together.

MC is one hell of an unreliable narrator. He describes the actions of the ML, curses him as a 'dog' and makes his own conclusions, but the actions are enough to show how much they love each other. It's a story devoid of dog blood or cliche plots, but it's heartbreaking all the same.

Reading this gave me the feeling of being tickled to death while my heart is being used as a punching bag for thousands of baby gremlins learning taekwondo.

I wanted to cry, but it was so funny. Tears would form in my eyes and yet the next line would urge me to laugh. So I laughed with tears in my eyes.

My mother asked me why I was being so creepy. I had no answer, really.

Excellent translations by Chrysanthemum Garden. This story deserves 5/5 stars for more reasons than one. <<less

This one is pretty cute. Like the tags imply, it's predominantly a comedy sprinkled with a few moments of poignancy rather than a poignant novel sprinkled with comedy.

The summary and the beginning of the novel seem to be trying to trick you into thinking it's a s*um ab*se novel, but it's not, and the misunderstandings are very obvious at the beginning, and are very openly solved by the midway point.

The comedy isn't quite laugh-out-loud funny, but it's cute and sweet in the grand scheme of things, and I enjoyed how... more>> the happy ending played out.

I was really surprised at how our MC ended up becoming a pig expert in the afterlife though lmao. And how this ended up carrying over to his next life where he became a world-famous animal husbandry expert. Though the old!him before his reincarnation used to be a doctor, so in a sense he kind of downgraded... LOL.

I do have one criticism though, and that's mostly due to its nature as a short story...

In that, despite the few flashbacks we got about MC and Su Yu's time together, we didn't get any details about why they broke up in the first place!

For the record: MC and Su Yu started dating when they were students, and broke up after a few years. Then, when MC got his terminal illness diagnosis as an adult, he got back into contact with Su Yu using the excuse that he'll be the other's sugar daddy (despite Su Yu being much, much richer and more successful than MC lmao). They carry on like that until MC's death -- and it's obvious from basically the get-go that they were mutually in love, but Su Yu is the "actions speak louder than words" type and MC is... MC (lowkey dense, ridiculous, and also dying).

And although we do get some glimpses into their student life, we don't actually get any details about why they broke up! At one point, MC meets Su Yu's mom, who MC was convinced would try to warn him away from her son, but in the end, despite being a super intimidating woman, Su Yu's mom ends up thanking MC and wishing him and her son happiness. (My favorite part in the story actually -- supportive moms are the best!) Which made me even more curious about why they ended up breaking up later, since they clearly had the support of their friends/family, so it must've been some internal force!

But that's a small thing compared to how sweet the ending was. And MC and Su Yu basically act like an old married couple like 90% of the time and that's definitely a dynamic I'm into. It's also nice that basically all the named side characters reoccur. It's a pretty tightly written story, if you think about it that way.

The author's writing is pretty good -- no typos that I noticed -- and I liked her style of not using quotes for dialogue; it fits the story. She's also fairly good at comedic timing, and the comedy didn't feel out of place despite some of the more poignant moments. Didn't read much of the translation, but it seemed mostly accurate (if not quite as witty) from what I saw.

TLDR; Sweet, comedy short story. Not a huge investment, but the characters are well-articulated, and the plot moves at a brisk pace. There are poignant/lowkey sad moments, but the ending will probably leave you feeling more heartwarm than anything. <<less

A recently deceased doctor abandons reincarnation to haunt the boyfriend he learns is set to marry only seven days after his death. Hilarity and bittersweet joy ensue. Its too short to share more without giving the whole plot away. I strongly recommend to anyone who needs a happy cry. :)

This story made me cry. This story made me happy. So many emotions condensed in such a short text. It's a rare story that should be read by everyone. Really, don't rob yourself by missing it. It's perfect!

I cried so hard. My eyes are now bloated like tennis balls. 😭 In all honesty, this story is so funny yet so sad, so happy yet so tragic. This novel is so good. It's indescribable by words alone.

The fact that they both love each other so much makes my heart ache even more.

It's true that the living are always the ones to suffer. I can't imagine how hard it was for the ML as he watched his loved one deteriorate day by day and, in the end, had to let the other person go. 😭 The description of him acting as if the MC is still there is like putting a knife through my heart. 😭😭😭 I can't breathe.

Edit : I revisited this novel in 2023 and ended up laughing at my old review. It looks like someone was overly immense at the time. Lol

Don't get me wrong; it's still a wonderful story, but now that I reflect on it, the sadness I talked about wasn't that deep, heartbreaking kind of sadness I once believed. It was more about my distress for the ML.

How he must have felt powerless when taking care of the MC, who was dying.

How lonely and heartbroken he must have been after the MC's death.

In the end, his decision to let go still fascinated me, because, personally, I don't think I'd have the strength to do the same.

After some consideration, I have decided to subtract 0.5 stars from my previous rating, primarily due to the perennial issue with short novels: the lack of details and the randomness of the storyline.

The summary was on point. But not the title.

The title literally what had made me hold back from reading this novel months ago. Thank god it's short and I'm in the mood today for new novel.

It's... A Comedic novel... Non Angst... But Emotional at the same times...!

Has the BEST ML! THE BEST !!!

I'll point out every impression from this novel

  1. MC TOO DENSE! How could him thinks it was unrequited love when ML's behaviour is all obvious.
  2. ML is a type of show no tell. Its so hard to make him say, i love you. I want to be with you. I want nothing but you.
  3. I like the author comedy. Its not cleverly formed entertainment, but its enough to make me laugh in every MC's absurdity.

Despite the comedy tag, this story made me tear up. It's funny and the characters are well-written, but the sad parts kind of got to me, so it was a relief that the MC was always pulling some antics to distract me from the emotional parts.

The story is simple and cute - it's obvious from the beginning that the ML isn't a slag gong, but actually devoted to the MC. There's only one minor plot hole:

The MC reveals how they started dating and later got into a 'contract relationship' (which was just the MC's dumb excuse for getting back together with the ML, who was obviously willing and very much in love with the MC), but we don't learn why they broke up, and based on the ML's devotion it seems weird that they did.

But this is the one minor flaw in the story - otherwise it's all good.

I was relieved that it was HE, and a very sweet, very fitting HE at that. The side characters made for some nice humor as well plus a few touching moments. My favorite was

Old Li waiting at Naihe Bridge in the Underworld for his wife. The fact that the judge tells him that he can change his appearance based on times in his life when he regretted his decisions, but he chooses to stay old because otherwise 'his wife will scold him when she comes to the Underworld later'. He just didn't regret anything and wanted his wife to be able to find him after death *sobs*

There are lots of silly comedic moments mixed in with some sweet ones, and both the writing and translation are really good. It's a gem worth reading if you want something short but heartwarming. <<less

A very sweet short, funny, heartwarming and full of fluff love story.

No complicated plot. MC's hilarious and ML's loyal to the very end. It's HE thank goodness!!!

Story 8.5/10.

Funny, tearing at the end but beautiful.

It was a good surprise. I can't recommend this short novel enough.

With POVs you see how a person sees another. It's different from the synopsis but I think a lot of people will enjiy the story.

To read it wait until all the chapters are out. It's better because the last three chapters are really linked together. It would be sad to interrupt your reading at this point.

Ah I love this novel very much!! I just found this and binged read it a few hours.

The novel is in first pov and I actually quite enjoyed it!!! Xiao Bai is hilarious and God, do I love him so much~ he's always shading his ex boyfriend asdfghjkl. Su Yu is different from what he was portrayed as lol

This novel has sweetness, fluff, a sprinkle of car (not detailed tho), comedy and a bit of sadness~

Please do give it a chance, it's worth the read~

Truth be told I cried a lot... it is a very sweet story and there are comedy elements but this story hits many of my soft spots... it's a short, sweet and HE about people who are destined to be together... thanking the author and the translator for bringing us this piece of gem🙏💎

While this story isn’t the most exciting, it’s still a good and sweet read. Even with the misunderstanding in the beginning it wasn’t annoying and actually made me want to read what was going to happen next. Overall it is a good short story that you can most likely finish in one to two sittings.

It’s short and I didn’t want it to end but to prolong it would have been a drag.

There a lot of missing details since it’s so short obviously — you don’t even really know MC’s actual name but regardless, it was filled with a lot of humorous moments for a topic so depressing such as death. It’s bittersweet and has a HE even if one is a ghost. The author manages to endear her characters to you in such a short time. I almost want to go back for a... more>> reread. <<less

Reading every chapter makes my heart breaks since they really love each other even death separated them. There are also hilarious scenes that relieves the heart breaking scenes, especially the twist if the story! Looking forward more novels of the same author
