The series follows the protagonist Kazunari Hira, a high school student who doesn’t talk much, has no friends, and belongs to the bottom of his class. The person he falls in love with at first sight is Sou Kiyoi. He is “The King” who doesn’t hang out with anyone, equally ruthless, and reigns at the top of the class. With the hope Sou will notice his presence, Kazunari serves him devotedly, running errands and buying lunch. But his faith in the absolute monarch gradually falls into lust.

I have watched the live action

J-drama first... Since it's my one of the most favorite bl drama.. Later I found out that it's adapted from novel..

So I gave it a shot.. Although the novel is same as the drama.. It has more detailed scene... kiyoi is such a cute character himself.. Even though he rarely express his feelings for Hira but deep down in heart he already fell in love with him a long time ago.

This novel is amazing. The characters are quite multi dimensional and the story seems cliche at first but it's really not. I love this story very much.

The MC is the gong and he is an absolute complete simp for the ML. The ML is a tsundere, and I find him really cute as well. These are two very imperfect people who are somehow perfect for each other.

Please do yourself a favor and read this.

This novel has characters as complex as you and me, they feel very real and all have elements you can identify with.

... more>> Definitely Kiyoi and Hira are my favorite pair out there, the way they both bring themself from the lowest and start accepting not only each other but themselves in the process is *cheff kiss*

The start is rough, as I said, the characters are complex and I understand many things that happen might not be for everyone, but all is necessary to understand and fall in love with the boys. <<less

Pretty story, with a lot of bittersweetness and misunderstandings, but still addictive and pleasantly painful.

I don't really like stories with misunderstandings and such, and this one has a lot of them. While I was constantly frustated by the two boys Hira and Kiyoi being utterly unable to communicate their feelings in a proper way, it was still quite great seeing their internal struggles about what they felt and how their own selfish views of each other had great impacts on their relationship. One thing I specifically loved about this novel is that it doesn't try to have a character development, in a sense of having characters abandoning their flaws and becoming better people. It's a different aproach from what I usually like to read, but it was nice to see it. The whole point here is that both leads actually fell in love with each other's flaws and it was never stated that it was something they wanted to change. Whether being a selfish pretty boy or a creepy gloomy guy, it's part of who they are and it's quite refresing seeing how they are ok with it.

Their dynamics seem weird and toxic at first, but once we reach certain chapters, we can have a deeper insight on how they're actually pretty suitable for each other.

This novel might not be for those who are waiting to read something sweet and endessly healthy, but if you're looking for obsessive love that borders worshipness and a lot of frustrating mutual pining that borders s*upidity, this is for you. <<less

This is a great short story, if you're looking for something mildly emotional with a sweet aftertaste. The writing style is engaging and the plot is well paced, with the relationship development being very realistic for the characters personalities. MC is worshipful, slightly obsessive, but very considerate while ML is a tsundere who likes that single minded devotion of MC. I wouldn't want their relationship for myself, but there's something really sweet about how well suited they are for each other.

I really didn't like ML at first, but after his... more>> POV chapters he grew on me a lot. He's a bit of an as*hole at first, but it's mostly a defense mechanism and he's surprisingly cute once he lets down his walls a bit. At one point, I started crying reading his thoughts, because his insecurities really hit home for me.

Though this is a short story, both MCs go through quite the character development, progressing from their time in high school to college. MC learns to accept himself and ML learns to open up, and through doing so they are able to actually understand one another. The relationship is still a bit obsessive on both parts but it's not overly toxic, as they're both able to communicate with each other pretty well once they get together what with MC having no filter and ML complaining aggressively.

The NSFW scenes are great too if that's what you're looking for. MC is the biggest service top I have ever read in my life, and I do love how their first time was not painful at all for ML. A rarity in BL for things to be this consensual and painless. <<less

At the beginning of the history there were some moments in which I though kiyoi was really an idiot, but when I read his pov I kinda understanded what he felt and story felt many times better to me, It had been some time since I read something which made me have feelings while reading and look forward to what was coming next.

I regret not reading this earlier. This is such a well written novel. The first few parts felt quite uneasy, since it contains bullying, but in the later parts it's just second hand embarrassment and fluff. What I liked the most is how realistic the characters are. Although I can't understand MC's POV, surprisingly I got connected to ML's tsundere character... Hehehe. He felt so real. Also his recurring thoughts of trying not to get involved with MC even though he can't help but to get involved with him. Such... more>> are feelings. Like in other novels once they figure that they want to get together with the other they'll just get adjusted to every aspect of the other party. But it doesn't happen in reality.

Anyway it was a great read and felt satisfied after a long time. Now I'm planning to watch live action. <<less

It's interesting. I like as the characters has depth to them. They're both frustrating when it comes to expression. Hira is just so frustratingly, an obliviously dirty innocent😂 Kiyoi is cute too. They're both cute.
