show significant distress or emotions. Even when he is bothered by something, it lasts for like a paragraph before his extremely stable emotional maturity kicks in. Mad at being taken advantage of? Oh, okay, I'll just ignore it and move on with my life. Everyone is worried about something? Let me give a poetic speech that fixes everyone's state of mind.

That being said, if you're just looking for something cute to read, this is decently written and well-translated. My favorite parts were where the author writes stories within the story. Clearly the author CAN write complex characters and situations, but in this novel, that isn't the point. It's a feel-good story about falling in love. <<less

This is my first ever review in this app. I have read tons of novels- some I loved, some I disliked and some dropped halfway. There is something in this novel that made me want to leave a review for the very first time. It might not be as detailed as some other reviews which have stated their clear liking or disliking for this novel. As for me I loved this novel.

The MC and ML might not be as groundbreaking characters or as perfect as we readers sometimes envision or... more>> expect the main characters to be. However, this imperfections and flaws was what made me so engrossed into them as the characters. They felt more humane in a sense that it was easy to connect to them and not have this huge sense of distance between the characters and myself.

The side characters are also so well fleshed out that it is not too plain or dramatic. Things and plots are well connected and the plot line might be not overly exaggerated or over the top- still the nuisances that a novel that need to share a journey of unknown actors starting from a scratch has been fully covered.

To begin with, the only setting that makes up the whole novel is a single variety show. There isn’t much sceneries that could be incorporated without making it seem baseless or over the top just for the shake of advancement of the novel. Topics that needs to be covered has been covered with clear beginnings and closures.

The romance is more of a sub-plot which can sometimes be a reason for me to drop a novel halfway through, but this novel was engaging enough cause the play with emotions and feelings that we as human go through in daily basis has been well incorporated into the entertainment setting without making other feel too much alienation from the plot.

Give this novel a try, try to feel emotions rather than just read the lines, then it becomes very enjoyable😊😊 <<less

This story is so cute!! The premise is that our MC is a new actor who is struggling to find work, when he gets cast in a new acting game show of sorts, where his idol the ML is one of the four mentors of the show. It's an interesting premise, probably based off all the idol game shows that are popping up these days.

MC is quite compelling as he starts off still imperfect at acting since he's still new at it and talent can only take him so far.... more>> He's very sincere and wears his heart on his sleeve, leading to the cutest scenes of him reacting expressively to situations around him, and ML as well as everyone else around MC just amusedly observing him. Also ML is such a tease and he clearly enjoys MC's reactions, it's really so much fun reading their interactions.

The MC being such a big fan of the ML had me also falling in love with the ML every time he appears. I loved all their interactions, and the descriptions of MC nearly combusting every time he sees the ML are so well written- there's definitely something to be said for a story that will show you the characters emotions rather than spelling it out for you. Also having a protagonist so clearly in love made me really feel that excitement of being around someone you like, it's so sweet.

The subtle feelings between them and the slow development of a genuine relationship was so good. It's a slow process of realization as neither of them have been in love before, and MC starts off as a career fan in the beginning, as opposed to being in love with ML's appearance alone. I really enjoyed all the moments of ML questioning himself and falling for everything MC does. As he should, because this really is such a likable MC, he's so cute! The way he turns red every time he sees ML is so endearing.

Also I love how the age gap isn't big! The MC is 24 while ML is 27, which was honestly such a pleasant surprise for a showbiz story as I feel a lot of them have pretty big age gaps. It makes the power imbalance feel less intense when they're only 3 years apart, especially since ML clearly has way more power and experience in the industry.

The overall concept of turning acting into a game show is a bit far fetched perhaps, and the directing / acting scenes can be a bit confusing- like are they really filming live and making a whole movie scene just like that without any production for the contest scenes? But honestly, it's not a big deal because the individual story plots are interesting and the overall plot is always moving forwards. I really liked the progression, and the way the feelings of the main leads grew and developed as they got to know each other better was very compelling.

Honestly I'm just sad this story isn't longer! I really do love the two main characters and their relationship. It felt so natural that they would fall for each other, and any misunderstandings were just cute, not annoying at all. I was definitely convinced of their feelings for each other especially during:

the moment when ML kissed MC for the first time, I had to take a pause and just process because!!! The emotions were so intense!! I really love when a story can convince you that the characters really do like each other.

Its started so cute. MC is not the OP or mary-sue type of guy and he is willing to work hard.

ML is kinda good too I guess, but confirm poisonous mouth.. I'm sacred to be the receiver of the words.

[Only get to MTL till 16 >_< Hopefully translator will manage to get till the end of the story. ] I'm hooked. Author don't disappoint and thanks translator to share this book. If not I didnt even know there is a gem here too.

This was perfect. It was not long, it didn't drone on, there was no extreme issues, the ML didn't just suddenly whip out OP status and fix every issue in an extreme way. In fact some of the issues weren't even solved by the ML. The MC had flaws, and so did the ML, it was well done. The biggest part I liked was that the misunderstandings didn't take forever to solve, and in fact they were logical misunderstandings. I loved it. I hope I can read more like this.

I actually found the theme of this novel as an actor talent show quite refreshing and intriguing. This is the first time reading a showbiz novel with this kind of setting. It was like watching an idol reality competition, but with unknown actors or extras as participants. It's a place of opportunity for actors who are buried in the deep entertainment industry and can only accept acting roles as small and passerby actors or new and emerging actors who has no support behind them. The set up of... more>> this competition is a little hard to implement in real life, acting live on stage like a play but also with complete camerawork to present the script in a movie-like set up. It seems chaotic if you thought about it but the idea and ingenuity is there so I really appreciate it so much.

It's very interesting to see the MC not even having an agency or an agent to help him in the beginning and doing everything by himself. He's also not the typical MC who can shock everyone with his acting skills. He can easily be drowned in a sea of actors without a proper assistance. He's a real newbie that has to earn what he has with his hard work but with a huge potential. Throughout the novel, you'll see that persistence in him, the loved he has for acting. I loved that it was not easy for him, making it feel so realistic. MC also has this positive mentality and even in the most desperate point of his career, he refused to be cornered and forced to take a path not suitable for him. He said this specific lines that moved my heart and it's very in line with his character:

["At that time, I was thinking that if I want to take this road, can I only enter through this entrance? Do I have to go through these things?" He continued softly, "If that is the case, should I stick to this path?"

But at this moment, Xue Xiao's tone changed and suddenly became brisk again. "But it turns out that there naturally can't be only one path to the destination in this world."

The host and the audience members were stunned.

"Every road is fair. There are shortcuts that can be taken at any cost, but there are also longer, further and more difficult but also down-to-earth roads."

The young man said in a soft voice, "The world can be the same as we imagined, as long as we make the right choices."]

This novel is really inspiring. The way the theme was presented not only applies for actors, but for all struggling people in their own professions. I also liked the romance aspect in this one. MC is a fan of the ML, but the relationship development is not built in a way to feed any fan delusions toward their idols. They have such a pure and lively interactions. ML's sharp tongue and MC's adorable innocence is quite a contrast, but they complement each other so much. I also appreciate that the MC earned many great friends in this journey. There's not that much jealous and petty co-actors that popped up left and right to smear his name. This has such genuine interactions.

I struggled and struggled to complete it but dropping it.

Reasons:

1. Xue Xiao character is not clearly plotted. He blushes in every line, with repeated gestures and emotions make it boring. His personality of MC should have more dimensions but honestly true justification not done

... more>> 2. ML Shen Tingyan is portrayed as cold, straight back, sarcastic person but immediately noticed MC and immediately start paying attention and immediately falls in love. These immediate switches I can't absorb as a ferocious reader of tons of novels

3. Translation is too plain with occasional mistakes. Rich translation plays important role in gripping readers till end. Like " in breakfast noodles were made, xioxio ate it and aunty was happy". This style covers most of later half of the novel which put me off.

4. Teasing and creating curiosity but not admitting. Bot MC and ML acted like high school lovers." I know u know what I know" this scenario repeatedly repeated till almost end.

Why I kept reading till 2/3 of it

1. Competition scenes are well writte, judges judgement audience interaction and whole competitive scenario is well portrayed.

2. Start is good and tempo was maintained but in later half story seems rushed

3. Presentation of skits, character portraying and displaying is really good.

Anyways if u r stuck in the black hole (like just finished an excellent read and unable to find ur next love), go for this novel to stabilise the mood and pick the next good read. <<less

I would love to give this a higher tier, but my conscience didn't let me. It's not that the story is bad, it's actually quite good. Xue Xiao, as our main character, is the typical "raise from the ashes" type of person, from the bottom he climbs up to the highest place in the entertainment industry. The male lead, Shen Tingyan, is the usual "cold, aloof, and only warm with you" type of character. He's also the best of the best in the entertainment industry, which... more>> is very convenient as the partner of our main character.

The plot of Studio Superstar itself is very simple. It's the cut throat entertainment, but instead of idols it's the unnamed or unpopular actors, including background actors like Xue Xiao. The concept was entertaining, but most of the executions fell short. It's clear that Xue Xiao is the most powerful, so his part is the most exaggerated. I had hope, that even though this is the "rise from ashes" type of story, that Xue Xiao wouldn't be too OP. But he did.

Though this in itself is not really that surprising. Most of the novel had OP main character, OP male lead, or both. It's the usual and standard novel plot, and that's why to me, I can't give it a higher rating.

Another reason why this novel is stuck in B-tier for me is due to the main character itself, Xue Xiao. In the beginning of the story, around 30-40 chapters in, it's explained that he was the little fan of Shen Tingyan. When he look at Shen Tingyan, he blushes. He prioritize his idol over everything else. He even dreamed about him, and draw the picture of Shen Tingyan in his notebook, unconsciously. And because the character is explained as "naive", Xue Xiao didn't understand that his feeling is love, not just simple adoration to an idol. Really? As someone who is old enough to understand that feeling, someone who loves to read books, someone who even writes his own novel (Yes, he's really that OP), and can understand the mindset of the characters he plays, he can't understand what he's feeling is love towards Shen Tingyan? He didn't realize this until later in the chapters, and by that point, I've given up on logical thinking for this character. Yes, his journey is good. Yes, his acting is good. But no, his naiveness is not very logical considering his state and his mindset. To me, this one flaw makes this story less believable for me to follow and that's why I can't give it a higher rating. <<less

The story is so cute and the MC and ML love story is just soooo lovely. Also, MC's growth and ML's inner thoughts just make me speechless. I'm obsessed with the novel. So I want to keep reading it. But can't find the MTL version of it. Can someone tell me where can I read the rest of the novel? I need it ASAP.

Also, I recommend others to try it out, if you have experience being a fan and trying to reach out to your idol but can't fulfill it.... more>> At least this novel will make you feel like "Ahhh such a dream come true"

So very cute!! The MC is more like a happy go lucky person but that does not mean he doesn't have his dark times. He just tries his best to stay positive and unaffected. ML is the cold type that has a poisonous mouth but melts whenever he's with the MC.

The interactions between the MC and ML its honestly so cute and sweet. Love how they both don't realise that they are in love with each other at the start which makes it more realistic. Also, I totally didn't expect... more>> the moment of their first kiss!!! Very unexpected but so damn cute. This novel has alot of moments that can make me squeal because of how cute they are hehe. <<less

One of those novels that I've read, where after finishing I feel empty, like I'm thinking, what else should I read 🥺

I don't think it's a light story, but it's not 'heavy' either. It's a solid story, with epic problem solving, a strong romance and showbizz background, even if they come together very late 🫢

but this story is really sweet 😭😭 Really, I love how the author narrated her story, and how the translator did it so well!!!

I cried so many times, really! Every film and story that the author... more>> described, I even had to prepare tissues. The story itself was solid, and the way it was portrayed was very moving. I was really moved T....T

characters, I love this couple so much, the author is a genius in pairing them, I thought this story would be a light comedy romance, but because of our ML characters, this story has become very solid.

I must also give a round of applause to the other characters, friends, enemies, mentors, and all the characters in this film and story are very memorable.

Cute, fluffy short story, don't expect anything life altering or something.

This was definitely an enjoyable read especially if you are a newbie to danmei, but if you've read more than a hundred then this will just be a regular story of two people who fell in love and were able to reach their dreams together. The MC is very cute and who loves to act. He's always doing his very best to learn new skills from those people around him. The ML is your typical rich, poisonous mouthed person, cold... more>> to others but very warm to our MC. I feel that both characters are OP, so if you're not into this kind of character, just skip.

The antagonist? Hmmm, he just disappeared just like that. I feel that the antagonists here are just decorations, no more no less. They were just inserted to the story to put a little twist.

Overall, this is not too bad but if you're looking for a solid plot, then this might not be what you're looking for. <<less

This is a gem!!! You must read this!!!

First of all, what I have to praise is the writing style of the author. The narration of the story itself deserves five stars. It was heartfelt, touching; how the author went through conveying feelings. The translator has also worked hard, now all of us can enjoy it because of that.

Although the plot was about finally winning a competition, rather than focusing on winning, it was focused on how to improve, not alone, but with friends, not leaving anyone behind. The book tells... more>> you, not to be negative because of the barriers you face, there is always a way to survive and reach your goal. This novel is full of positivity and inspiration because that is the personality of the MC. He is sunny, positive, clear headed and sweet.

The MC dreams to be an actor, but he does not have resources and continues being an extra. That was when he got the chance to participate in the Studio Superstar competition. There he meets his idol actor, the ML. The ML has a poisonous mouth. He never shows sympathy to anyone. But when he meets this brain-dead fan of his, the MC who claims he is not a brain-dead fan, he cannot help but be amused. Each of them get to know more about the other and fall in love in the period where they spend in the competition grounds. In the end of the novel, both MC and the ML achieve their dreams and goals both in career and their personal lives.

There are short movies played in the novel, many genres which do not fall short, even if they are published as an independent story. They are heartwarming, some are scary, some are sad, and some contain thrill and suspense.

The romance in the novel is very mild. Just stealing glances and most of the times they hide their feelings in their hearts. But when it reaches the end, there is a bit of sweetness.

All in all, this book is worth reading. So go for it!!! <<less

It’s cute, not perfect, but it’s enjoyable. I’m not really a connoisseur when it comes to movies so I don’t know how accurate everything is written. I actually like the romance aspect, they’re cute together. One thing I don’t like about this is the protagonist halo. The author likes to highlight everything good about the MC, always emphasizing on how much he’s grown in so little time. It does make for an easy read coz you won’t have to worry so much, but it also makes reading a bit boring.... more>> But I understand that is also quite enjoyable for others. Cute story but dragged a bit towards the end. MC, Xue Xiao, is a hard working acting geek. ML, Shen Tingyan, is indifferent and caustic at times. The intro describes the plot but isn't 100% correct. There aren't any unexpected twists since the plots center around the competition.

MC is a big fan of ML from the beginning. ML was the reason why MC decided to be an actor. From the beginning, ML noticed MC because MC was outed as ML's fan from the start of the competition.


The issue with MC being targeted was resolved quickly. MC's acting abilities improved and he had more opportunities to interact with ML. ML's romantic feelings develop first and then MC realizes his feelings for ML were not those of a fan for his idol.
In the end, MC wins the competition and signs on with ML's company. With the support of ML, MC later becomes an award-winning director.

This is my favorite entertainment theme novel! The story is full of fluff. The thing I like the most is that there is not much netizen's comment! I hope there will be more stories with entertainment theme like this which is focusing on the MC and ML rather that using half chapter only for passerby's comment.

While reading I feel as if I am living through the perspective of Xue Xiao- but at the same time also as a bystander, cheering on his journey to become a star. The author is a good writer, and I especially got invested in the Orchid Praying Mantis plot. Is it weird if I wished that the author actually wrote a book based of it? Loll

I also like how the author gave the side characters motives and moments to shine in the novel- a prime example is Jin Xiaochen, especially during his performance! Given that I am only 17 out of 89 chapters through, I hope that the author continues this trend, and the side characters have a life of their own beyond the protagonist. I hope I grow to love the other side-characters just as I do with Xue Xiao.


A small problem I nitpicked is the slight protagonist halo. While I do love relaxing while reading (as I know that the protagonist will have an easy path), I prefer more tense plots. Although it is too soon to get a full picture, it seems that Xue Xiao is usually in the right (like a man against the world situation, except the man has many powerful and supportive allies??), and that anyone who opposes him, gets clapbacked.
Especially considering Xue Xiao's personality to wholeheartedly love acting and wish that his opponents live up to their acting roles; I think it would be better if the antagonists were more of a challenge in terms of acting prowess. Portraying the antagonists to be completely cruel yet short-sighted, and also just innately untalented is slightly ruining Xue Xiao's journey as an actor. Like suddenly, his achievements are not as valid because his opponents were set up to always fall short as compared to him. Furthermore, by portraying Xue Xiao to always be in the right and to have little to no flaws- not only does it emotionally distance him from the readers, but it's also disheartening in a way. I want to see him be in the wrong sometimes! Cause consequences he can't take back! I want him to learn and grow not only as an actor but as a person too.
I hope I am just being unreasonably nitpicky, because I am really excited to continue reading once there's more chapters!

The amount of times I’ve swooned from this novel... you’d think to send me to the hospital for sure.

Ah... what can I say? I really love a good acting-centered novel. This made me think back to Star Around the Sun & now I have an urge to read that novel again.

This story is simple, predictable, but also heartwarming & romantic. I’m just a lover of words & the prose in this novel hits me like a ton of bricks. I just adore novels that make me fall in love simultaneously... more>> alongside the characters—what more can you want from a romance narrative? That being said—yes, a heavy filter was on while reading & I closed an eye on any negatives. Was the story perfect? No, but MC’s journey to stardom & success won me. As cheesy as some moments were, I loved his growth, his incessant blushing when ML’s around, his gentle & bright persona. Maybe it’s a little too OP but whatever- I’m a sucker for it. Now ML... no comment; he’s evidently too much my type & I fear I can’t be objective about him even with a gun to my head. <<less

The feeling of being submerged in the softest, warmest marshmallow.

Mind me, I’ve read a lot of Showbiz, a lot of romance and a lot of novels in general. But one thing I’ve commonly noticed is lack of integration. Many, many authors fail to integrate romance into their plot lines if it’s only a sub genre, there’s a lack of control and it feels too messy.

Mo chen huan for example, her stories are quite good, but she’s not the best at integrating romance into her works. It really falls flat and... more>> is quite bland.

Surprisingly, this issue is vaguely taken up in this novel. Experience, understanding, empathy. Acting is very similar to writing, you create a world, but the world must feel coherent, it must be natural, and the characters all definitely must develop.

That’s what Studio superstar is.

It is growth, it is love, It is a journey and most importantly- an experience.

I love how in Xue Xiao and Shen Ling’s short film, we get a sort of foreshadowing.

The love Xie Jia feels toward Mu Sheng isn’t just a romance plot, it is a part of him, a part of his growth, and a part of his journey.

Very very cute protagonist. MC is a little lightbulb towards ML and it's realllyyyy cuteee. Although the ML has a sharp tongue, he still used it appropriately, I must say. Interactions and romance are top-notch that I can't stop smiling while reading it. The movies the contestants are acting on are good stories that it can be a standalone novel! It's kinda sad that it's short hence I would love to see more extras about their love story. Five 5 stars for meee ❤️

Translated by the same translation group as Very Happy, the story gives similar happy-go-lucky vibe from the MC, a piece of sunshine bringing happiness to people around him. The ML is fixed from the very beginning, and the sugar is sprinkled throughout the novel, though the actual confession comes much later.

I like that the MC is an author and an actor. Many people talk about OP MC, our MC is relatable OP, a Primary school Chinese Language teacher who left home to pursue his dream and meet his dream man. Some people will dislike how MC has been called "child" repeatedly despite being 23 years old, his baby face can explain it. Anyone who has a baby-faced acquaintance knows how they are always addressed.

The short stories presented as performance skits were enjoyable. It's like reading stories within stories.

All in all, it's a good read <<less

I am writing this review in an emotional state so please excuse any grammatical errors or typos. I don’t have the heart to review what I write before hitting submit.

Let me first share that I am one of those who cannot handle any form of sorrow, let alone tragic situations. I prefer to bask in fluff and happiness. Even the suspense and thriller genre that I choose are those in which the victims have been portrayed objectively. I find myself slipping into characters far too easily and am left dazed... more>> and distraught for months after being exposed to miserable situations even if they are fictional. In short, I am an escapist.

Now, I came here for fluff. Although a few reviews mentioned that the plot lines discussed within this novel brought them to tears, I assumed that they would take a couple of paragraphs at most and I will just skip them. Ha! Ha! They covered pages and chapters. I will say that they were so well-written, even better than the main story, that I found myself steeling my heart and venturing into what I knew would be painful. And painful the experience was! The author has the ability to take human experiences that we take for granted and portray the impact they have on us, even if we are able to overcome them as time passes.

The main characters are beautiful. The side-characters are more concrete than usually found in CN focusing on a couple. BUT the characters in the stories within this plot are you and I, our parents, our siblings, our friends, those we have lost, those we have seen suffer, whose experiences have taught us the most crucial life lessons.

Great work! The translator retained the essence of the plot so kudos to them. And I will take reviews more seriously before I pick my reading list. <<less
