The story really picks up when the government is aware of the "second gate" and are in pursuit of someday infiltrating it with S class hunters. At this point Evie is desolate and spends most of her time sleeping to escape reality. She suddenly receives a message from a hunter who has activated some kind of lifeline ability from somewhere inside the dungeon. This person has narrowly escaped Gillen's clutches but is severely wounded and on deaths door. We are introduced to Marie Thaddeus, a mature A rank hunter who was presumably on her last mission before retirement. She tells Evie this assuming it is her final moments but Evie runs out to find the potent healing potion and gives it to Marie, effectively saving her life. Marie is grateful and forms a pact (some red string tied to her wrist) with Evie promising to escape with her. She tells Evie how she's saved enough money to retire and open a shop and that she will buy her drinks once they're outside. Marie also asks about Evie, curious how a small and fragile young woman survived in such a place. She also senses that Evie is a 'non-awakened' even though she claims to be an E rank hunter. Evie, lost in her thoughts can't remember the last time she spoke to another human and this gives her renewed hope of finally escaping the dungeon. The two teleport to the rooftop where the gate is located while Gillen is preoccupied with massacring her remaining party. Just as they are about to exit the gate something happens and Marie gets attacked by Gillen who is shocked to see Evie trying to escape after promising to never do that again. He is about to end Marie's life when Evie latches onto his arm, begging him to spare her life. Gillen reluctantly agrees and Evie removes the red string which flings Marie to the exit. She collapses on the floor in tears.

Marie is in some kind of hospital recovering when she is approached and interrogated by some agent. They ask about the super effective healing pot and tell her that there is no way a mere E rank hunter would survive an A rank dungeon and that Evie was probably a monster (since monsters can take on the form of their victims to lure humans) but Marie assures them that with years of experience she can guarantee that Evie is 100% human. This piques their interest.

Back on the rooftop at the lab, Gillen is livid that Evie tried to escape. He doesn't want to physically harm her so he suggests they have a baby to keep her by his side. This scares the living daylights out of Evie as she never contemplated the idea of conceiving with a monster but Gillen was once human so the probability is high and and because Gillen let Marie live she isn't in a position to refuse. So anyway, they end up snusnu'ing A LOT and she eventually falls pregnant. It time skips after this and shows him taking very good care of her and their unborn child. I assume they bonded somehow because she ends up showing Gillen a lot of affection.

The novel ends with Gillen soothing his precious Evie to sleep while the humans infiltrate the lab. He releases the lump of flesh on them and strokes her swollen belly as he muffles the piercing cries of humans screaming in agony.

The female lead as a human naturally does not adapt well to the dungeon, until she is not quite human anymore. At that point, the male lead seems to have finally begun to change the environment to meet her human needs... as much as someone who barely understood people even when he was human is able. The two have such different outlooks as a human and a monster that a healthy relationship between them was impossible, and I liked that the author did not try to force a happy ending.

I appreciate that the male lead has such a well developed backstory. It's a pity the main character didn't bother to listen to what he was saying. I can't truly fault her for not deigning to give someone she considers her rapist a chance. (Note: To be fair, SHE is the one who used a skill that forced him to love and desire her, making the identity of the true rapist here even more dubious than the utter lack of consent anywhere within this novel.) She was under no obligation to pity the monster who trapped her in the dungeon against her will, whether his love allowed her to survive or not. To be honest, I do not think I could bring myself to accept feelings forced by a skill either. What if she does fall for him deeply? Are his feelings for her even real? Whew.

The concept of the child introduced in the prologue does not have much presence beyond its use as a plot device, considering that the story ends before it can be born. Children can mean many different things to different people. In this story in particular the child represents a duality of hope and despair: the potential to make or destroy the fragile balance inside this odd human-monster dungeon. The male lead's original research about hybrids was to find a way to resist the monster invasion. Human greed seemed to destroy any chance of this salvation, but this child as the first natural hybrid might fulfill the male lead's original dream in a different way. However, it is uncertain whether the male lead's research was viable. All of his existing research subjects inevitably became monsters, whether it was due to them being transformed by the incomplete serum or not. Even Evie is becoming a bit non-human through her exposure to monsters. There is a chance this baby is not a salvation for this couple or humanity, but an irredeemably terrifying monster from birth.

Will Evie love her child as the male lead hopes?? Will the male lead truly be happy if the child takes away her attention from their two person world? Will she even survive the birth of the baby when she is so obviously frail? The only thing certain about this ending is that the male lead will love Evie no matter what she becomes. The beauty of an open ending is that the readers' imaginations can endlessly fill in the remaining details.

This does not have a happy ending.

FL doesn't escape or fall in love. The ending is a bit open, but my interpretation is she's essentially lost her mind to her monster pregnancy even if she's not giggling like a madwoman á la Fiona from Haunting Ground ending D. Girl can never breathe fresh air or touch grass again. F*cking miserable....

The "ML" never gets redeemed or reverts back to his old self in any way. He stays a literal homocidal monster from start to finish. He's super manipulative towards the FL and cruel to all others.

I am just curious by the fact that did the ML really fell into obsession with the FL after the system of the FL got erased and considering that she has no system anymore means all the skills she used or has will be useless? I knew that the ML fell in love with her or rather got forced to be in love with her due to the enchantment skill but many times I have read it, there was always a mention of how the FL fears that the effects of the enchantment skill might not work anymore due to her losing her system and skills and even though the enchantment skill is permanent, only when there is a system. I would like to think that yes it is a driving factor for the ML not to kill her but in the end he just got obsessed with the FL which I guess somehow due to hsi tragic past and being lonely. But due to how short the story is there are some parts which are left unexplained but the author maybe wanted it for us to interpret on ourselves. By the way if you have a way of answering my question above I would be glad too. It just left me some questions I want to answer.

Another reason I cannot say is

"was it really a happy ending?", because everything just happened due to fate. Not fate because they are destined to be together but because of the circumstances. Gilen (ML) falling in love with Evie (FL) after she used the drug when he is about to slaughter her and in the end when she was forced imp**gnated and assaulted many times because she tried to escape his clutches twice. Yes, she isn't bounded by literal clutches aside from the first time they met and he assaulted her but she is still imprisoned in the laboratory building. Yes somehow she had her dreams fulfilled in which she isn't alone anymore and by the end of the book I guess she has come to terms with her situation and not so much repulsive towards her life but still it is quite pitiful that she is literally trapped in there. I hope my thoughts (which I think somehow sounded as rants) didn't spoil your 'should be' experience. We all have different opinions and personally I liked the way it ended. We could just imagine it the way we want it to be. Some might say this is not literally a romance but it depends on who wants to read it. Just give it a try. Some of the spoilers have been told by others in here so this is just my piece.
