[Short Story] [Food Writing] [Sweet Little Cake] One day Ding Sha got transmigrated into a book, with a baby of unknown parentage in her belly.

Upon closer look, the baby turned out to be the male lead from a previous angsty novel she read.

A poor little thing unloved by his parents.

So impoverished that her stomach rumbled, but armed with superb cooking skills, she transformed herself from Ding Sha into the boxed lunch beauty at the construction site.

Kung pao chicken, garlic baby bok choy, spicy pork belly, tossed noodles – she cooked up a storm.

Before the construction workers could feel the stirrings of spring in their hearts, the baby’s father suddenly appeared.

Jun, carrying a travel bag stuffed full of cash, squatted outside the door gazing longingly at Ding Sha’s slightly bulging belly.

“Wife…I’m back…”

A 1v1 sweet doting story without ab*se, a light and fluffy little sweet cake, safe for consumption.

It's a simple story with an non-existent plot. It's more like a cooking guide with traces of slice of life.

But I liked the concept, a story about a teen couple who eloped and started their own snack store all while raising their infant son.

Both the MC and ML come from an impoverished background. They didn't become extra-ordinarily rich by the end of the novel, It's just them and their small store.

There are no antagonists, but ... more>>
Spoiler

the author did write about a brain dead female stalker. But thankfully the author came back to their senses and dealed with her in the same chapter. There were no other antagonists in the novel

About the MC
Spoiler

I think it was pretty obvious in the 3rd chapter itself, that it's her original body

Thank you for the translation! Sometimes the names are not translated properly= Sha Sha becoming Sand Sand. Or nameswaps here and there but otherwise the translation is great!

As for the story, I did enjoy reading this drama-free, fluffy story. What made me give it 5 stars was the bittersweet ending. Not all stories have such an interesting ending and I liked what the author had put in. However, I did think that the last five chapters could've been an extra story instead and I would've liked more about our main... more>> couple.

PROS:

  1. Super fluffy story with a sweet romance between the FL and ML.
  2. FL had doubts about her transmigration but author manages to write about how our FL was always Ding Sha and had to choose between the parallel worlds. She chose to stay with ML.
  3. Lots of interesting characters like Si Le, Xiao Shitou, Zhuang auntie with their own unique circumstances.
  4. Baby Ping An is cute but I wish there were more interactions with him.
CONS:

  1. Due to the many characters, they weren't all fully fleshed out. They come and go in the story. Like Le Jiayu who's gay and became friends with our FL. I would've liked to read more about him but they just dragged him into the story sometimes. Like Si Le who had an alcoholic mum and was then adopted by Zhuang auntie, we don't get a deeper storyline about that as well. It's all touch and go.
  2. I wished we had more stories about our FL and ML. It ends abruptly and goes to Xiao Ping An's POV after Chapter 69 iirc. I wanted to know more about ML learning skateboarding, about our FL cooking more dishes...
That's all really.

It's a simple sweet read just nice to pass the time. <<less

All I can say is that it’s a very heartwarming story that has made me smile. A story I’ll remember and gladly recommend to my friends and to others too. The last few chapters even made me feel quite melancholic and had me tearing up.

Not cliche. No incessant drama. No brain dead characters or villains. No s*upid misunderstandings.

Actually the first modern drama I’ve read set during the pandemic period, wasn’t quite expecting it, not like the time period was important to plot anyway.

The story has a sense of realism, and... more>> the flow of it was not to bland nor boring. It was able to hook me on as I read each chapter. How the story went was not to fast-paced nor slow-paced. How it ended did not leave me hanging but rather fulfilled to read about its contents.

A 5/5 and a guaranteed good read! Might even read it again if I feel like I want to get away from all the intense drama I’ve been reading.

Lastly, I’d also like to commend the translator and their translation. Although some parts had mistakes, it did not take away the mood as I was reading nor was it hard to understand. I’m happy that such a gem was able to be translated~ <<less

Keyword : Slice of life and heartwarming

At first, I came with the intention to read romance story, although I know that often in this kind of book the romance wont be overflowing. And it's true, it is a very wrong choice.

BUT, although I didnt get giddy romance, what I get is heartwarming. Sure the interaction doesnt focus on ML and fl, even truthfully I cant feel the time when FL fall in love with ml. But, in the end they are loving, happy, and living... more>> their life as a family of three and I start to eat dog food.

In conclusion, for slice of life and heartwarming novel, I rate it 5 from 5 star! <<less

Cute and fluffy novel, mundane and not much drama at all. Slice of life.

Spoiler

The original ML that Ding Sha gave birth to was so pitiful. I cried when he transmigrated and realized he was a loved and wanted baby—That he could have had a happy family too. I wish he had fully transmigrated into Ping An.

The review that follows is for the 46 chapters I’ve read and not the complete novel.

This novel showcases sweet moments of romance and care, which I found enjoyable. The story doesn't have dumb absurd characters, except for one minor mention that doesn't affect the plot much. It's interesting that the story unfolds in a recent timeline, precisely during the loosening of COVID-19 lockdowns, offering a unique setting that I didn't expect in a completed novel.

However, the book's aim to create a "food p*rn" experience through detailed food and cooking descriptions... more>> didn't quite hit the mark for me. I've read another food-focused novel that vividly brought the dishes to life, but this one fell short, lacking the captivating descriptions that truly immerse readers in the culinary world. Additionally, the subplot involving the “male lead is my son” trope doesn't contribute meaningfully to the overall storyline. The rushed pacing and underdeveloped plot left me feeling like the narrative lacked substance, making the reading experience unsatisfying. <<less

as first comment said; plot is non-existent. Writing has huge problem its like author had an idea like, teen parents and cooking lets do it!

novel lacks emotions, process, character depth, even context! And how? Let me tell you novel is like: she transmigrated, she cooks lunch boxes for money, she received a mail from prison-husband, she goes meet him, he comes home, they open snack shop. Their is no explanation about how she accepts new husband what emotions she have even what character she or he have its just bunch... more>> of events going on and characters are rigid dolls with no souls just playing so that story can progress, you cant see struggles, problems, how they go it through, its like a report of what happened.

and I have question as adult when her husband is back they don't have any intimacy I don't mean interc**rse cause she has dangerous pregnancy but they sleep in separate beds! I was like what? Sis he already got you pregnant shy for who? Even if you say you are not original owner are ML dumb or some thing? That cant figure out things? Even later when she finds out she is the original owner they don't have s.e.x after baby is like 4 months ? I was like WTF? As an adult I know that is like a joke! An adult man and woman living in same house under pretext of husband and wife and nothing happens ESXUSE me!!!! its not school and you are not high schoolers YOU ARE FKNG ADULTS with a fkng baby. I don't know author is teenager or something but I have an advice, adults world don't work like that kiddo <<less

This is the kind of story that lingers in my mind long after I finish reading. I truly love stories like this—low on drama, yet comforting, like a warm hug or the feeling of home.

Many reviews criticize this book for lacking a plot, but in my opinion, that is the plot. That’s the essence of slice-of-life storytelling. Isn't life just like that? A cycle of monotony that never quite becomes boring. People come and go, yet they leave behind places, memories, and emotions that shape us.

At its core, this is... more>> a deeply human story—one that reminds us how even the smallest choices can alter the course of someone’s life. For that, it’s an easy 5/5 from me. <<less

Spoiler

I cried the whole time reading the og ab*sed male lead (in the title) 's experience where he was experiencing a day of his parallel universe self

[collapse]

Spoiler

there's also no definite ending like we saw them grow old together, they just became a family meanwhile og ab*sed male lead in the title's life didn't transmigrate into the parallel universe where the novel female lead and her male lead was able to live and raise their son

[collapse]

but what I like the most unlike other transmigration like stories is there's no stealing of someone's identity/life which I've been craving for for so long

the translation quality is also pretty bad, but if you've reas through mtl already this is understandable <<less

This story was gold!!

In the early to mid chapters, the stories are quite heart-warming and mundane. However it caused me to cry a bucket of tears at the end, didn't expect it would take quite a turn!

If you wanted to enjoy a slow, love and care about a family, this could be the one. Not much drama, but definitely captures the slice of life theme.

Beautiful story filled with a simple story on humanity, good morals, and the choices that can subtly or greatly influence one's life trajectory. There was a little bit of jumping of time between chapters, which allowed you to imagine changes and made large gaps in time seem more reasonable for such a short story.

I did ball like a baby during the last few chapters as a result of how choices could influence someones life.

I ended up enjoying this novel so much.

Both the MC and ML were endearing and I liked that they were also surrounded by good people as their emotional support.

The fact that the author did not attempted to make everything complicated for no reason was an commendable.

The translator (s) also did a good job with the translation.

Im nearly done with the novel but I want to get my thoughts out now and update later.

it's both slowed paced yet also has many things happening but not much of it to our main characters. Reading it is just boring, low drama. Most of the drama they aren't directly involved in, more like witnesses to it. It's a bit annoying how easy everything comes to them, there's no hardship to grow on it's just monotonous. The novel feels like those stereotypical food blog entries where the actual recipe is... more>> buried amid a life update. They keep taking in people to move in with them despite barely knowing them. Like taking in a random street animal is much different than taking in random passerby's, in any other world this would be a terrible idea. The author wants to be very descriptive with the food, it glazes me over and not in a good way where I'm hungry for the food but in the I'm bored way. Also it took me a minute to realize it wasn't a rebirth to X time period but modern age lol the QR code scan knocked me out of it, but I honestly thought it was since it felt too old fashioned/rural

The most interesting part of the story was when we switched to the POV of the son from the Original Story and his experience in the current story. Il I felt more interested in those few chapters than the rest of the story lol

Spoiler

it went the way I thought it would go considering how easily she accepted having a jailbird boyfriend. Like reborn to being a teenager sucks, but being pregnant and unstable income, your man in jail (like okay he got paid to take the fall for someone else but what if he'd actually done it 😭 also wouldn't that have affected your future and your child's future like how many times have characters been scorned because of their criminal parents) AND YOU JUST ACCEPTED HIM WHEN HE GOT OUT. YOU KNOW NOTHING OF HIM. She didn't get memories till later, because she accepted the fact she was always DS. She d¡ed in the original story somehow got to a world where her sons life was a book and then transmigrated with the knowledge. Not that it matters since she only really had to take care of herself for her pregnancy/finances and not be alone. Since I'm sure that's why she passed in the OG storyline.

The dream of the son from another world where he's from the OG storyline nearly had me crying. I first I was confused by the random introduction but then I remembered his old name. He deserved to have a happy life and have his family. It's sad he could only be a ghost experiencing it through dreams. Both parents dead in his reality, I legit teared up when he kowtowed to the graves and that his only family portraits were of him with their urns & old pictures of them. He found peace and joy doing the things his parents did and hold hope to changing what could've been while also moving forward.

But it also makes me pity the current son, like his mom knows the fate he managed to escape but she isn't as hands on as I'd like. While I don't think your life should revolve around your child she does leave him to the nanny or husband or the work aunties more than she takes care of him. I don't I guess I'd just be a bit more involved with him. Especially since he could be her only kid (there were issues with his birth where she might've gotten a hysterectomy it wasn't very clear)

It was ok I guess. Nothing outstanding. MC and ML are together nearly the whole story, and yet I couldn't feel the romance or the chemistry between them. And their protagonist halo is too wide and bright. Anyone or anything that ends up at their door step becomes part of their family. Every character in the story is in awe of MC for making the earth go round. Anything she does is perfect, multi talented bla bla. I wouldn't be surprised if she decides to go into rocket science and... more>> develops a space ship to mars made of her food.

Anyway read for some relaxing time and don't expect anything mind blowing or even a small twist in the story... not even romance. It's just a time-killer. Not on my re-read list. <<less

This is literally the sweetest story I've read!!!!

It's so heart breaking but peaceful at the same time, I don't even know how to explain it.

The novel starts as a traditional isekai but it becomes more than that, it changes into a cooking novel, then slice of life with child raising and finally it reaches the most beautiful resolution that had me crying tears of sadness and happiness.

If you're looking for a story with a lot of angst and conflict, this isn't it. But if you want the sweetest palate cleanser... more>> after a particularly heinous novel then this will do that and more. <<less

Great story, short and sweet. It made me cry a few times and even though it was a happy ending it felt like it ended on a bittersweet note. The translation mixes up the point of view, names, he/she several times, but otherwise it was done well. Thank you for the translation!
