I honestly don’t know how people are reading this novel. It feels like a schizophrenic, ADHD narrator is trying to describe what's happening in front of us if we were blind and they’re making it up as they go. The pacing is all over the place. The point of view shifts randomly you don’t even realize it until you’re already confused. One second the narration is talking about something, and the very next, it's rambling about something completely unrelated. There’s no sense of tension, no real thrill to the adventure.... more>> It's just: "The MC or any chars wanted to go from point A to B, " and then boom "something exciting happened during the journey, trust me bro." That’s it. No buildup, no payoff. Just chaos in text form. And no not the good kind of chaos the sh*t kind. <<less

Hello!

This novel has been in the top 5 of Novelpia for months now. Though it hasn't been picked up because the premise is quite unique, I believe it actually adds to the charm. Also, the art is fantastic. Perhaps the best I've seen. Despite the otherwise underwhelming title, it is actually a beautiful story, crafted as to questioning what makes humans, "humans", and what we would do when we are no longer at a dominant position.

Now, to the summary:

Imagine yourself looking out the window of your house and seeing... more>> grotesque sights. Imagine yourself smiling and clapping while your colleague is ripped to shreds and eaten to death right beside you. Imagine desperately keeping up the pretense that, yes, you are still the apex predator. Why? Because you are human. But unfortunately, humans are no longer at the top of the food chain.

In a world overrun by beings known as "Objects", humans struggle desperately to survive amongst these behemoths. Some of them work as researchers who try to discover more about these mysterious entities while others try to take advantage of the unfathomable powers that these Objects possess. Greed, curiosity, and desperation mix into a maelstrom known as humanity.

In this novel, our MC is one of such researchers working at Seoul Research Institute. While taking care of an Object called "Cute Puppy", she is unfortunately caught up in a terrorist attack, thus getting blown to pieces. Her last thoughts were how she wished to be reborn as an Object; free to play, eat, and rest to her heart's content.

When she wakes up, she finds herself... changed. Smaller. Unable to speak. A different pigmentation. She is no longer human. It is an Object. It is a God of Death. It is the Gray Reaper. Join our MC's story, as it traverses through Seoul and lives out a (hopefully?) worry-free life. But as we all know already, that won't be the case anyway.

Now, onto my personal thoughts:

This is definitely a stand-out novel. Not only is the writing beautifully done, but the seemingly simple premise holds much deeper meaning than one may think. There is a reason why a novel "charts" well, especially when considering that this is a nomance (no romance) and the MC isn't some male chad nor is it an FMC to simp/thirst over.

Right from the very first chapter, you are left hooked. The way the author builds up the racial hierarchy between Objects and Humans is beautifully done. Such an abrupt, yet impactful, moment sets the tone for what the story will be. It is not some feel-good slice of life. Nor is it some power-tripping, Young Master bit*h Slap genre. It is simply... human. Through the medium of entities known as "Objects", humanity's nature is all so glaringly highlighted. Whether good or bad, we can discover what makes us, well...a living, breathing person. That's one of the most beautiful things I find about the novel.

Now, to talk about our MC. It is an overpowered Object, who was once an Object researcher. When she was human, she desired to be an Object. Why? Because they seemed to live far too comfortably at the expense of the human race. She also wished to live pleasantly, free of the horrors that the world brings. Luckily for her, she does become an Object. A small, mute, gray entity with the power to whisper death into all living things. Though the Korean calls it the "Gray God of Death", for the sake of being COOL, we have TLed it as the Gray Reaper. It is overpowered, as it has the ability to see the weaknesses of Objects. And of course, humans are nothing but fodder to it. However, it still retains its "human nature", thus telling a story of its interactions with both Objects and other humans. While its development may seem slow at first, it will quickly pick up the pace! So I highly recommend you keep reading.

The action, psychology, and slice of life is stellar. Every part is meticulously crafted and it's clear that the author breathed "life" into their characters. Everyone has a different mindset, purpose, and manner of speech. As a result of this, each character stands out in an unforgettable manner. Definitely one of the better novels I have read or TLed when it comes to developing "character" in a world. If you wish to read something similar, I recommend Omniscient First-Person's Viewpoint! Lastly, the action is done, not in a fantastical and vast manner, but in a rather subtle yet slightly terrifying way. It leaves you on the edge of your seat and makes you wonder just how powerful the MC really is. Definitely a novel that one could craft theories for those who like to do such things!

Anyway, all I can say is to try it out! You'll be hooked on the first chapter and you'll keep at the story chapter by chapter because each one is meaningful. There are no filler plotlines. Every arc is targetted towards growth. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves reading! Because it is a fantastic piece of writing, before anything. Now, onto my last "ratings":

This is supposed to be horror novel but I got diabetes instead. Please God I need Mini Reapers in my life. Theyre so adorable 😭

Seoul Object Story bring SCP-esque tales centering around an Object born from a dying researcher wish called Gray Reaper. In a world that various Object ranging from harmless to disastrous keep being born, humanity tried to learn about these Object, either to eliminate, utilize or contain them. Growing desensitized by Objects that doesnt do any harm, humans becomes lack of caution towards Objects, thus tragedy was born. Sometimes due to greed, sometimes ignorance, sometimes just pure unfortune. The story progressed through these tragedies, presented through various PoV, from victim, passerby, perpetrator, recurring characters and of course Gray Reaper.

I jumped to this novel prepared for a heavy story, but its fairly light thanks to Gray Reaper. Rather than reincarnation, like I said Gray Reaper is more of an entity born with a dying man memory. Even with those memories, It act like a child or newly born Object. Gray Reaper has mischief and playful personality, act on impulse and driven by curiosity. Such contrast compared to other PoV lighten the atmosphere of the story. Its like im prepared for a bitter coffee but found out its actually a coffee milk. Of course I love milk. And it get sweeter and sweeter with cute antics of researchers that grown attached to Reaper and adorable mini reapers that act more pure like Gray Reaper if It doesnt have past memory.

Heh, enough with the diabetes inducing element. Fluff and comedy aside, this story is combination of horror mystery and action fantasy. On one side, the Objects performing bizarre and grotesque phenomenon running rampant, on another side Gray Reaper battling other Object that poses harm to it's comfort and attached humans. Sometimes through brute force and sometimes through puzzle because the prerequisites to kill them cant be done through force. <<less

They pose various threats to humanity, from overtaking territories with strange abilities to functioning as killing machines, yet their ultimate purpose remains unknown. The concept of Objects somewhat resembles the origins of monsters in the "Hunter" genre, adding an intriguing layer of mystery to the narrative.

The story revolves around a researcher managing an Object known... more>> as "Cute Puppy, " existing in a precarious balance where a single mistake could prove fatal due to the seemingly innocent yet grotesque nature of Objects. Caught in a terrorist attack, the protagonist sustains severe injuries, leading her to reflect on the unfairness of life and expressing a desire to reincarnate into an Object with a leisurely existence.

Fast forward a year later, and we find our protagonist transformed into a Grey Object, a humanoid and child-like entity with eyes resembling fireflies and the appearance of a young girl with a grey complexion. Despite lacking the need to eat, she retains the ability to taste food and possesses senses distributed across her entire body. Despite her intelligence matching that of a human adult, her personality resembles that of a child, exhibiting playful and mischievous behavior akin to a cat.

The narrative paints a dark world where human selfishness persists despite the looming threat of Objects. Corruption plagues the government, greed taints researchers' pursuit of Object powers, and conspiracies lurk behind the scenes, raising questions about humanity's survival amidst thirty years of Object-induced peril.

Despite the grim backdrop, the protagonist leads a leisurely life, wielding overwhelming power to steal Object abilities in a diminished form and possess an ability to obtain knowledge on how to "destroy" any entity easily (though quite ambiguous and sometimes feels like a riddle). While she maintains her humanity and aversion to trouble, she exhibits ruthless determination when protecting her loved ones from Object threats.

What sets the story apart is its diverse cast of characters, each offering a unique perspective shaped by interactions with the protagonist. Additionally, the protagonist's ability to create alter egos, such as the Golden Reaper (each different color Reaper has a different set of abilities—originating from the main body—and diverse personalities), adds new elements to the series, injecting moments of wholesomeness amidst the darkness.

The series offers an engaging read with each arc presenting intriguing scenarios reminiscent of SCP-esque tales, resonating with fans of the SCP Foundation. Also, I just wanted to illustrate her immense power. If I were to classify her according to SCP standards, initially, I contemplated designating her as an Apollyon Class due to her near-impossible containment and her ability to teleport and phase through solid objects. Additionally, her possession of a "Domain Expansion" type ability, enabling her to manifest her dreams and exert influence over reality, elevates her to a god-like status. However, upon further reflection, I realized that her dependency on the emotions of sentient beings, which serve as her source of power and sustenance, necessitates a classification adjustment. Thus, I should classify her as a Keter-Class entity for the time being.

I LOVE this novel very much, so much that I consider this as my top novel in 2023. The story is a perfect blend between cute, scary, and unsettling. It also has this element of mystery in each arc, making you want to read for more every chapter.

Now, story is set in a world where anomalies or non-ordinary things labeled "objects" exist in the world. These things are either a benefit or a detriment to humanity (basically an SCP-like world, where monsters with unique abilities are contained in a facility... more>> to protect humanity). Our MC is unfortunate to get caught in a rally about objects-related and died. Before dying, our MC made a wish to become an object and so the "Grey Reaper" was born.

Starting chapters are a bit confusing for some readers because of the unfamiliarity of the world the MC lives in, however, be patient and you'll be surprised with a lot of creativity of the "objects" and how they interact with the world and the people. The more you read, the more "dire" the situation of fhe world truly is, perhaps a certain "Grey Reaper" would do something about it? Who knows? Keep reading to find out.

Now, for the characters, MC herself most of the time appears to be emotionless but in her mind, she's quite talkative, like a certain White Spider (looking at you, Shiro). One of the highlights of this novel are the "other Reapers".... What do I mean by that? Read the novel to find out. It has elements of action and the way the author made it unique is by how each enemies that the MC has to deal with, has their own unique way of fighting, making you want to focus on how the Reaper deals with them. And for the side characters, they appear from time to time in certain arcs, trapped in their own trials and tribulations. They will play a role in future arc so better pay attention to them.

Its no wonder that the novel is as of the moment, one of the most popular novels in Novelpia right now (currently 18 in Life Picks). Dont be intimidated by the TS (genderbender) tag, it has no romance or any of that kind (beside the side characters ofc).

In conclusion, its a novel worth 100% of your time:

The story was good. But the only downside is that there was no control on the fluff limit. For example it had a heavy focus on cuddling the Reaper, now this might have been good on visual media but this is a novel, not a visual novel, not an audio novel, but a novel written in words. In novels it's hard to have a visual impact on the Audience.

So, even if Yeri cuddling the reaper might look cute in the Author's mind and on visual media, it feels really wierd... more>> because what I get in this novel is the conceptual image of an adult woman childishly cuddling a downsized old man <<less

An SCP inspired story with horror and comedic elements mixed in to it. If you are trying to find a unique story to read, they I recommend giving this a shot! It has a great mix of horror, comedy, and heart warming cuteness. Also, The mini reapers stole the show! This story became 10x more fun because it has mini reapers!

I wouldn't mind it if the author made a story just focused on the mini reapers, since they are just that good..

Other people have already pointed out all the good points of the story so I won't repeat it.

My only problems as of chap 30, is that it jumps POV pretty often and it gets a bit confusing. Also, maybe it's addressed in the later chapters, but there's no reason why the MC was reborn as a cute-girl looking object. They literally could have been any gendered dog, cat, horse, and the story would be the same.

If you have read "deep sea embers" the premise is very similar.

An spc foundation type story where MC finds himself turned into notorious creature said to cause great harm to humanity. Which is both the plot of deep sea embers and this story. Although they do take different paths.

1 star taken off for the multiple pov switches that make this harder to read then it needs to be.

I've been reading this for a while and I love it! Thus, I finally, sniff, partook in the difficult, difficult endeavor of writing a review~ (Cause I am a lazy a*s)

So, the story is set in a world run over by these Eldtritch SCP monsters, the very cool conceptual kind and not the generic monster of the week kind. These mysterious entities are called "Objects" and they are as fascinating as they are terrifying.

Our main character starts off as a researcher in Seoul, working with these Objects. But then, she gets caught in a terrorist attack and dies. And while she dies she makes her last wish. What is it? Well, it's to be reborn as one of these Objects. And guess what? It happens!

She comes back as the "Gray Reaper, " the cutest of cute beings, the goodest of good girls, the one who regularly gives me diabetes.

Of course, don't mind her crazy powers and the Reaper in her name, okay? She totally is not a killing machine.

So, what’s awesome about this novel is how it blends horror with the cutest, most heartwarming moments. The Gray Reaper is like this mischievous little kid, who's super curious and playful, and that totally lightens up the darker parts of the story. It's like, one moment you're on the edge of your seat, and the next, you're grinning at how adorable she is.

The character development is top-notch. Every character, whether human or Object, has their own unique personality and story. You really get attached to them as the story goes on. And the world-building is also just wow. It's detailed, immersive, and adds so much depth to the narrative.

If you're into SCP-like stories, you're in for a treat. The novel has this cool mix of mystery and horror, with contained arcs dealing with one object or organization, while in the background some recurring characters are planning something nefarious while others are investigating them all unfolding into an overarching narrative.

Also, there are some very likable recurring groups of characters who play important roles in later arcs and it's always done perfectly, it's like according to the in-universe information they naturally should be here, instead them being there cause of plot, like most novels. Each arc presents new and intriguing puzzles (lots of puzzles and mysteries) for the Gray Reaper. You never know what's coming next, and it's impossible to put down.

In short, "Seoul Object Story" is an absolute gem. It's got everything: horror, mystery, cuteness, and a protagonist you can't help but love. If you're looking for something unique and super engaging, definitely check this out. You won't regret it! <<less

This novel makes me so curious. It has a pretty interesting concept, and the way people and even objects act towards the MC makes you wonder what it is exactly with him that makes even some objects fear him. I want to read the next chapter to find out what happens next but it isnt unlocked yet 😔

It's ok. It's just completely lacking in detail. After having read the much better version of this novel, "

I’m an Infinite Regressor, But I’ve Got Stories to Tell, " this novel leaves much to be desired. After all, it just lacks a lot of components.

First of all is just the fact that our MC is giga OP. The MC doesn't really try and overcomes basically any obstacles. The objects that our MC encounters just get easily defeated. The MC has an easy kill button which kind of ruins the tension... more>> between humanity against Objects.

Secondly are the characters. They kind of are the key components to this otherwise dull story. They love our MC, the Gray Reaper. They shape the entire story. However, it's just that none of these characters have any sort of focus that makes them anything more than just a side character. For example, the Yellow Detective is an interesting reoccuring character that could have been fun, but because he gets sidelined he just stays as a side characters. There's way to little of focus on key characters like this. Same thing for James, who is a good character concept where he's interested in the coexistence between Objects and mankind, but because Gray Reaper takes center stage of everything and none of these characters have breathing room, none of any of the characters in the novel become anything great.

The entire appeal of the novel is just characters finding Gray Reaper cute and Gray Reaper killing these Objects for the humans, but it does just feel a bit surface level since none of the worldbuilding, characterization, or anything but Gray Reaper interacting with her little children is emphasized. <<less

TLDR: Amazing novel you must try, however it isn't without the caveats. Super fluffy cute story together with well integrated other genres such as Action/Adventure which makes this good novel for both genders. But with the amount of fluff, a lot of the dark stuff and apocalypse parts just fall a bit flat, especially with how frequently they occur. The core content is also very repetitive, but again, highly suggest reading. Don't binge though, read in bursts

I highly highly suggest reading this, however... note that the story is somewhat super... more>> repetitive... so you should definitely not binge this like me. I would suggest reading in arcs between other things if you are able to manage yourself.

The story is super cute, so I'd def suggest for girl readers. There is also just enough action adventure to appeal to male readers too.

The story incorporates some horror elements, and lots of people die in this novel. But, due to the less serious narratives, and often trying to make things cute or downplay things, especially when taken from our protags perspective, the all powerful Grey Reaper, these often feel a bit lackluster and really just set up the scenes of our hero fighting against horrors and saving the humans.

The MC is a Reincarnated human who died from an object. His personality got warped once he became an object, and she (I'm pretty sure he was a guy last life) became super care free, and essentially the only good object out there as the rest of objects that come to be are essentially enemies of humanity who seek to destroy the world order and often kill humans.

There are a lot of mysteries to uncover in this novel too. It really covers all sorts of genres like Sci-fi even. But when boiled down, it is a cute focused novel set in a modern Earth semi fantasy world that is in the midst of becoming an apocalypse.

The story is amazing-- but again, it is very repetitive in it's core content/formula. And though the author does an amazing job for most of their novel, they also have weak points in there story, such as the Sherlock bunch. After a certain point in the story too, a few dozen chaps in, the story started to have way too many pov switched. And again, for the dark sides, as it takes a more Grey Reaper (cute / non serious type) approach, it somewhat lacks the oomph factor as it falls a little empty sometimes. Especially with how frequently events happen <<less

I honestly like the concept of this novel, but the narration is terrible.

The pacing, lack of downtime\fluff chapters combined with an extremely annoying way of narrating different points of view just pushes me away from this novel.

The story itself is good however so I do recommend people giving it a try.

My first view of this was that it world building was similar to game elements and SCP foundation.. but it has unique way of telling it- this way it introduce objects, powerful beings that are molding the world to its concept- causing harm and somewhat amusing descriptions of it- usually there abilities are considered overpowered but they all have weaknesses, thats where are MC comes in, it kinda had me a theory that objects were just concepts of existense that are simple put on the human world (earth) and are... more>> just considering finding territory or atleast the old objects- but it somehow introduce of a human soul that still retains memories of its past and had physically turn into an object that could see weakness and obtaining other objects concept or abilities... so it still hasnt stop me getting frustrated to the few chapters I have read- yet so im still at chap 17- but definitely on my binge read for this year LoL love the dynamics and how humans view objects some find them just vibing while some had seen them as threat due to previous objects situations xausing mass mu*der and accidents often and the misunderstandings of the difference of a harmless intelligent object to a dangerous smart one--- <<less

It's a great SCP Foundation style story, it takes place in a world dominated by these SCP monsters called 'Objects'.

Our protagonist was a researcher in charge of taking care of one of these 'Objects', until one day he loses his life due to a terrorist attack, while dying, as his last wish he asks to be reborn as an Object.

Reincarnating as the Object 'Gray Reaper', who despite her name, is the nicest and prettiest girl that can exist.

All the characters have excellent development, with their own personalities and stories, you... more>> quickly get attached to them. The creation of the world is also excellent, it hooks you into the story quickly.

In short, it is an immersive story full of Tenderness, Terror, Mystery and a protagonist so adorable that you can't help but love him, especially the Mini Reapers, they are so cute. <<less

Seoul Object Story explores SCP-like tales centered around Gray Reaper, an Object born from a dying researcher's wish. Initially expecting a weighty storyline, I found Seoul Object Story surprisingly light-hearted, largely thanks to Gray Reaper. Unlike a typical reincarnation, Gray Reaper acts like an innocent child driven by impulse and curiosity despite having the memories of a researcher old man. This stark contrast of Gray Reaper's cute personality with the rather dark setting is something I find irresistably enthralling.

In this world, various Objects emerge, ranging from harmless curiosities to dangerous... more>> threats, prompting humanity to study, utilize, or contain them. Over time, people become desensitized to benign Objects, leading to tragic outcomes due to greed, ignorance, or sheer misfortune. The narrative unfolds through diverse perspectives: victims, bystanders, perpetrators, recurring characters, and the enigmatic (but still cute) Gray Reaper herself.

Beyond its comedic aspects, the novel seamlessly blends horror, mystery, action fantasy, and cuteness. It portrays Objects manifesting bizarre and grotesque phenomena while Gray Reaper navigates battles against threatening Objects, employing both brute force and puzzle-solving to meet unique challenges. I've read it from chapter 1 to the latest chapter (ch88 when this review was made) without feeling irritated or bored, I would say this is a good sign. The story takes place in a scp-like universe where the main character gets turned into a scp. It has the usual mix of mystery and a bit of Lovecraftian supernatural seen in the SCP universe. But, the main character also has cute/wholesome moments mixed into the story. If you like this kind of story, I would recommend you also read [Suddenly, I Became a Slime] and [I Became A Ghost In A Horror Game]. The Seoul Object Story has some differences from the other two.

[I Became A Ghost In A Horror Game] has children as co-leads and the Protagonist exchanges words with humans, those who get irritated because the protagonist won't speak might like [I Became A Ghost In A Horror Game] more.

[Suddenly, I Became a Slime] is a bit similar to Seoul Object Story, but the protagonist seems to be trying to speak and might be able to soon (as of ch100), and the protagonist struggles a bit more in fight scene (if you think Seoul object protag is OP).

Character (5/5)

I don't feel irritated or annoyed with any characters. Most characters are Interesting, villains included. SCPs's abilities are written well so far. There are recurring characters who have important roles in the story which adds/unfolds the mysteries in the story. There are some character developments in this Series.

Translation (4/5)

I read Novelplex translations. The translation is good overall, I understand it most of the time. But the word used in the translation is a bit strange. Still, it is readable and better than most MTL or AI translations. Novelplex also designated character POVs, which is a plus. I briefly checked the other translator (Genesis). While Genesis doesn't designate POVs, making it a bit confusing on whose thought it is, Genesis seems to have better word usage and provides special effect to text (bold text/ colourful text etc.). Sadly Genesis has a slower release rate. <<less

Anyway. There is a lot of "this happened" and "and then that happened". It's all used for comedic purposes. The MC is basically a child that is focused on saving humans, eating snacks, playing pranks, and sleeping.

Not as good as "Suddenly, I Became a Slime" which is another SCP style novel. World is less well constructed, characterization is lacking, people are less logical. Something about the writing is both too detailed and not detailed enough.

All in all, if you are desperate for an SCP style story it is passable I guess.
