I was obviously hit by a truck and died, but when I opened my eyes, I woke up as an eagle. While I was adjusting to my new life, I happened to encounter Theodore, the final villain in the original novel, in the forest.

I tried to ignore him somehow so as not to lose the new life I had been fortunate enough to gain, but…

“Thank you for coming.”

The man who hated everything and would set the world on fire was sweeter than I thought.

“I was a little lonely, you see.”

He was a man who could not be ignored and thrown away.

In the end, while trying to save him, I got hit in the wing by an arrow.

“Come with me. My name is Theodore. If you go to my palace, I will give you a pretty name too. And punish those who betrayed me and hurt you. Just be patient.”

Suddenly, I ended up entering the imperial palace.

However…

“You always say pretty things with that pretty mouth. When will you stop being so lovable?”

It was a big problem because the final villain kept trying to hypnotize me.

This story is good! The pacing of this story is lacking due to short chapters in the beginning. The story does takes its time introducing characters and the short chapters gives it the illusion that it's taking forever to get to the point, but if you stick it out, the story does become more interesting. I will say it'll rough takes about 15-20 chapters before the plot moves forward.

I think the bird concept is cute and the author does a good job developing the characters through actions. I was... more>> getting disinterested in the MC because he was coming off as airheaded and s*upid before he did acknowledged the MLs darker side and chose to ignore it. That is a major uplift to his character because at least he knows. Still naive but I'll take naive over s*upid. S*upid only works if those was a comedy.

MC himself is paced good. Yes the beginning was lacking due to pacing but his decisions are more centered around balancing survival and sympathy. He feels relatable because of the fact that he's wanting to be selfish while still having human compassion. His naivety stems from lack of general knowledge and having sympathy for the ML.

ML is your typical broody, two-faced ML. Nice to the MC but an absolute terror to everyone else. It's a trope that I eat up regardless of quality. A cake is a cake. But it is a good cake nonetheless.

Overall, im looking forward to the story. <<less

I'm gonna say out the gate that I am extremely bias. As a massive bird nerd, I always love stories where a bird heavily features. To top it off I am a sucker for romance, and the cliche "I was reincarnated as non-human thing and later can swap between human and non-human forms". To put it simply, this is very much my cup of tea.

Starting off, I love our MC. His kind nature and just fun inner dialogue is really captivating to me. He expresses caution and aversion to getting... more>> involved with ML at first, but can't ignore him in the end because of his nature. Yes it can also be seen as being an overdone character trait, the whole "oh no he's a villain but I can't just leave him to die!!", but I just find MC really charming regardless. In his inner dialog we see how fearful he is, but he still pushes through with things to the end. Maybe that's what makes me so drawn to him, idk lol.

As things are now I also like ML. Since I'm not far in yet I am worried about how he will treat our MC when he becomes human, since often in BL toxic relationships get romanticised a lot. Right now he's a very sympathetic character, and I really really really hope he doesn't turn into one of those hyper obsessive and controlling MLs. Like there are hints of obsession already, but it's at an acceptable level currently, and our MC doesn't seem upset or opposed to it at all.

Spoiler

The villain we've been introduced to, the Empress? I LOVE HER! She's such a good antagonist character. We've already gotten some peaks into the tomboyish and cheerful young lady she used to be, so it makes me really interested to know how her personality became so warped. Also she's already had some sick lines. Like: "I, your mother, will place the empire in your hands." It's so simple but oh my god she's so cool and hot. I'm looking forward to more of her.

To finish, I want to give all my love to the translator, Frey Translations! Everything is so well done and reads smoothly. I can't help myself from going to their page daily to refresh and check for updates.

I'm excited to see where the story goes, and highly recommend checking it out!

Edit:

Now, I want to start my update with outlining that I fully understand other people's feelings about chapter 29/30, and I agree to an extent, but I have a slightly different opinion.

Spoiler

ML kills an innocent person for no reason, and MC barely reacts. As people with basic morals and understanding that mu*der is disgusting and horrible and should not be glorified or romanticized, this obviously is extremely uncomfortable to read. But, I think its meant to be uncomfortable for the reader.

I think the author is showing us that not only is ML not a good person, is a villain, but that MC is no longer a human. As humans, we created our own standards of morals, of right and wrong. Here's a real life example: dolphins will group up and literally b*at a shark to d*ath for fun.

MC is no longer human, down to a biological level, his thinking is inherently different. It's outlined multiple times that MC feels an aversion to humanity as a whole, and is trying to grapple with this change as it battles with his memories as a human. This is taken a step further with this scene. ML kills an innocent person, and MC discovers that all he really feels is a mild discomfort. He realizes how f*cked up that is, and doesn't want to continue dwelling on his own greying morality.

So, while I agree that the scene feels gross and bad to read, I also think it's a really good illustration of our main characters' major flaws.

All is good. I love the story, how they met and I like the mc's characteristics. I love that he's strong and not a damsel in distress. I also like that the ML truly cares for the MC and the MC also cares for him. They like each other mutually. Everything is fine... until chap 29.

Spoiler

Theo seriously killed an innocent person just because he wants to buy shuian some clothes? I understand the first few times ML killed others because it was self-defense, but killing Anne, who's as far as I know, is just an innocent store-owner, was mu*der. And Shuian didn't even react much... like he's losing his morality as a human now that he's a divine beast? I know there are other protagonists out there who are cruel and evil and other novels with really dark plot that mu*der is normal but still, this novel started off with fluff and with a pretty much morally-sane MC, nothing traumatic nor a reasonable event even happened to the MC to cause such a change? I really dislike that he's turning morally-grey for love, it's disgusting. The thing I like the most about the MC is how kind he is at the beginning when helping others as an eagle.... But now that he's losing his humanity and siding with Theo even tho we all know that innocent woman died because of him... Huh. What a let down. I'll change my mind if he'll realize what's happening to him and if he'll be back to having his morals, but if not and the MC just turned into another "I know you're evil, but I still love you" blinded-by-love protagonist, I'm out.

I genuinely loved the premise of this story, but as two reviews already pointed out ch 29/30 were hard to swallow. Even the original Korean readers had controversial feelings about it. I'm going to continue reading but dam. The author really managed to throw a doozy lol.

So far so good!

MC is quite the magical bird, having landed in a pretty fantastical kingdom intrigue-kind of story. He adapted to his new circumstances very quickly and the clearly-to-be-redeemed-villain, lite-obsessive ML latched onto the MC very quickly as his one last attempt in trusting another being. Their (still platonic, at this point) relationship builds very smoothly and quickly. 20 chapters in, the cast is still fairly small. Will edit the review once things start moving along!

Don't read this, you'll waste your time like I did for a sloppy story. I originally was going to rate it two stars but when I read the final chapter I changed my mind. Shuian is the MC who is a eagle and the ML is theodore the second prince who is treated terribly by everyone because they believe he is cursed.

Spoiler

Shuian is a divine beast which is important to the empire lore cause it was founded by artes and dux the eagle. Hint Hint, yeah later on it's revealed shuian is actually Dux and Theo is the reincarnation of Artes.

Honestly, I can only complain about how bad the story was lol. I get the author was just trying to write a fluffy love story about the MC and ML but was there really a need to include the other characters...? Seriously, nobody cares about them. The other characters are just written so flat and suddenly have themselves inserted into a love story of their own too. Biggest example is Orca, the aide of the ml.

Spoiler

During a expedition, the MC saves Liam who is the son of the enemy count who was executed because he thought he could bring a loyal ally to the ML since he doesn't have many which works because Liam wants to save his sister who is struggling from a commoner life after they lost their noble status.

Okay, yeah another ally. The author makes Liam be a cowardly person who is their new ally but why did they suddenly make him become the love interest of Orca??? Just because Orca trains Liam so he can assist him with his work since Orca is already overworked as the aide. It makes sense for Orca to train Liam for the job but the author makes that the reason why Liam is in love with Orca because he thinks Orca is so kind to him and protected him lol.

A person who thinks all the time would know Orca just did that because he knows Liam is their new ally who will assist them... It doesn't even feel like Liam is loyal to the ML instead he's loyal to Orca.

Spoiler

Next is the love story between the ogFL (Ariel) and ogML (Ricardo). Their character is written flat as h*ll too. It just seems like Ricardo only likes Ariel cause she's the first person who treats him nicely not because she wants anything for his prince status meanwhile he feels guilty for using her and then later in the story it feels like he just gaslit himself to believe he likes her too lmao.

[collapse]

The main focus is between the MC and ML where it takes almost till the end of the story for them to confess their feelings for each other as the entire story is just them having multiple moments of flirting and basically acting like a couple but both being to afraid to confess, the typical troupe.

End of the story, the author tried to make a happy ending for EVERYONE. It didn't leave me feeling satisfied one bit except for the thought that I finished this crap.

Spoiler

The villain is the empress who wants the crown basically cause it's her "hunter instinct". She gets executed after the climax of the story but the author wants you to pity her by giving her reasons like the empress's father strongly desired power so he placed her in the empress position so she too has the mindset she must always win/conquest like a hunter and their prey. And she never experienced love and affections either except for her mother who gave her that so she reminices about it in her last moments when she gets executed.

Then there's Ricardo who the author wants you to like and pity because he's just a puppet for the empress, he's a victim too blah blah yeah I don't care. Truth is Ricardo, the ogML is tr*sh too. The author makes him apologize to the ML in the end for all the suffering he caused to the ML and the ML goes "Yeah don't worry you're just the victim, it's all good!" Seriously... Throughout the story the author written points here and there that Ricardo is not actually as nice as he's believed to be. For the moments that the ML suffered in the story, the author will point out how Ricardo likes it as because it basically reassures him that ML won't beat him for the crown prince position.

What really annoyed me was at the last chapter, the ML is practically emperor at this point but he ask to have another competition for the crown because the original competition was between him and the empress so he wants to fight against Ricardo himself this time. And Ricardo is like "Thanks for giving me this chance and sorry about before I was just a victim". Yeah f*ck off pls, the author ain't gonna fool me with this cringe sh*t. What's the point of trying to write off Ricardo like that in the end of story to make him seem more likeable when you pointed out here and there about how Ricardo is a sh*thead but you want to end it off with him only being a victim of everything.

[collapse]

Once again this story is just so damn sloppy, the entire flow of the story is pretty much a repetitive cycle of MC and ML flirting > talk to emperor for new test of crown prince position > go on expedition > try to one up the empress. Rinse and repeat. I read it and feel like I got to nowhere, I only kept on reading cause I was already halfway through the novel and just wanted to see how it ended but man it was so disappointing and unsatisfactory even if the MC and ML had the typical happy ending. <<less
