Turn off your brain, relax and enjoy the freedom of gourmet! A fantasy with some kingdom building trope, it also includes mythology of different countries. Worth reading without stressing too much about politics and logic. The characters are simple, not the most in-depth story but it certainly is entertaining. Our MC is the youngest of a noble family, thrown to manage the most worthless borderland. Along the way he finds himself new companions and upgrades with his gourmet and wit. The writer is a novice but his story is highly... more>> recommended for satisfying boredom. <<less

I wanna like this, but it's hard for me to justify. First of all, it's definitely missing a harem tag.

Second of all, the writer is not good at describing food or know that many food options tbh. There are literally only four types of dishes. Stew, barbecue, stir fry, salad (one time btw). The description during cooking is vague and most of the time just "MC is OP cook, he has mastered how to make the food amazing by fire control and throwing the food in at just the right... more>> time." No other descriptions are given except talking about the main ingredient of the dish. No other items to be added to compliment the the main ingredient. Like he carries around specially made cheese but never uses it in a dish? Doesn't make a damn sandwich even with the uniquely, special, never tasted before, popular cheese he created using knowledge of modern era???? The descriptions from various people about the food are... funny sometimes, I will admit, but most of the time, its just them saying. It's delicious!!

For a novel with food in it's name, the part I was more expectant of, it was downright disappointing.

Lastly, the translation seems like they machine translated it and then shoved it into chatgpt to correct. There are even several chapters where every single paragraph is out of order, so you have no idea what's going on. There are chapters where it's chatgpt saying text too long, here's a summary, so you're gonna have difficulty following the story sometimes.

Other than that, the worldbuilding is interesting. I don't read a lot of high fantasy novels, so I may just be out of my expertise, but I did enjoy the world building and the setting quite a bit. Most of the supporting characters have a bit of charm like the wild hunt king and the MC's loyal knight being hilarious. The humor can sometimes be a bit dull, but other times, it's nailed really well. The MC is insanely OP, but I'm used to that genre as it's been fairly popular in recent years, so I'm able to ignore/overlook it.

Basically, if you don't care for untagged harem, boring food, and/or occasional badly translated chapters, and you enjoy high fantasy dnd-like power up setting and Norse mythology with occasional English lessons on poems, this will be a solid read. I will probably read this whenever I'm desperate for a read and slowly get through it. <<less
