In the heart of the opulent imperial palace, amidst the glitz and glamour, we find Zhao Heng, a lowly laundry maid with dreams of escaping the palace drudgery and giving her beloved grandma a comfy life. But fate has other plans, as a steamy night with a mysterious stranger turns her life upside down.

Fleeing the consequences of her forbidden encounter, Zhao Heng thinks she’s left her past behind. But destiny has a funny way of bringing people back together, and she finds herself reunited with the enigmatic stranger, who turns out to be the Crown Prince himself, Li Wenjian.

As Zhao Heng navigates the cutthroat world of court politics, she discovers a strength and resilience she never knew she had. With the Crown Prince by her side, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery, unraveling the secrets of her past and taking on those who’ve wronged her.

Character Spotlight:

• Zhao Heng: Our girl Zhao Heng is no damsel in distress. Despite her humble beginnings, she’s got a spirit as strong as a dragon and a heart full of gold. She’s not afraid to stand up for what she believes in, even when it means facing off against powerful enemies.

• Crown Prince Li Wenjian: Underneath that aloof and arrogant exterior, the Crown Prince is actually a kind and discerning guy. He sees the real Zhao Heng, the one with the sparkle in her eyes and the fire in her soul, and he’s determined to protect her and cherish her.

———
Li Wenjian held her gaze, his voice firm. “There are two reasons I tell you this. Firstly, life in the Eastern Palace won’t be a gentle breeze. Even for me, the path has been a tempest – assassination attempts, treacherous plots, brushes with death, a constant dance on a knife’s edge. This is the life you’ve chosen, and I respect that. There will be no regrets, no turning back.”

A flicker of resolve crossed her face. This path, she would walk it with her head held high.

“The second reason,” Li Wenjian continued, a gentle smile softening his features, “is that you needn’t fear. As long as I draw breath, I’ll be your shield, easing your burdens.”

A familiar pang echoed in her chest. In this world, the cruel truth was that no one could be another’s constant.

The proverb whispered in her mind: “Those who lack foresight drown in immediate worries.”

Another truth, a harsh reality: the only unwavering support, the only unwavering trust, could come from within. She wouldn’t be a bird clinging to a branch, waiting for the wind to change.

Stop everything you're doing and pick up this novel *right now*!

Step into the dazzling world of the imperial palace, where secrets lurk behind every shimmering curtain and ambition pulses through the air. Meet Zhao Heng, a spirited laundry maid with dreams bigger than the palace walls—but when a single fateful night with a mysterious stranger upends her life, she's thrust into a whirlwind of passion, danger, and destiny.

**Why You'll Love This Novel:**

- **Zhao Heng**: A heroine like no other—fierce, determined, and unbreakable, she'll inspire you to fight for what you... more>> believe in.

- **Crown Prince Li Wenjian**: An aloof, magnetic prince hiding a heart full of fire. His devotion to Zhao Heng will melt your soul.

- *The Stakes*: Court intrigues, forbidden love, and a journey of self-discovery that will leave you breathless.

You *have* to rethink this!

While it's tempting to dismiss the female protagonist for seemingly starting with no ambition and suddenly demanding recognition, her journey is far more complex than it seems.

Spoiler

Losing her grandmother—a devastating blow—left her isolated, vulnerable, and without a family to lean on. Her resolve to stand beside the Crown Prince isn't born out of opportunism; it's driven by survival and an unwavering need for justice.

Think about this: **when she prepared her grandmother's body, she discovered something—a clue that hinted at foul play.** Her actions aren't random or selfish; they're fueled by grief, determination, and a burning desire to uncover the truth. Aligning with the Crown Prince isn't about greed for a title—it's about seeking protection in a cutthroat world and finding the means to investigate her grandmother's mysterious death.

Instead of questioning her motives, consider her strength. Alone, unprotected, and grieving, she still dares to confront danger, navigate palace politics, and fight for answers. That's not a lack of ambition—it's raw, unyielding resilience.

[collapse]

Her story isn't about entitlement; it's about transformation. So don't rush to judge her—embrace her journey. You'll find yourself rooting for her in ways you never expected.

And let's not forget *that moment*:

*"As long as I draw breath, I'll be your shield."*

But Zhao Heng knows her strength must come from within—and her journey of independence will ignite your own sense of courage.

This novel is packed with electrifying tension, sweeping romance, and twists that will keep you turning pages deep into the night. You *need* this story in your life—it's not just a book, it's an experience. Don't wait. Dive in now! <<less

I absolutely loved reading this novel. I will rate it 4.5⭐️ for the story. Its a beautiful mix of romance, palace intrigue and personal growth that kept me hooked from start to finish. The story follows the young woman who unexpectedly becomes the concubine of the crown prince and is thrust into the complicated often dangerous world of court politics.

What really stood out to me was the male lead, he is hands down the best I've ever come across. He is smart, strong, gentle and fiercely devoted but he also... more>> has this quiet vulnerable side that makes him so lovable. The romance between him and FL is just perfect. Its a slow burn, filled with tender moments and emotional depth that had me rooting for them the entire time.

And for the person who rated this novel 1 ⭐️ asking why female lead asked for the title, you're assuming that after the disaster happened in her life, she could have just left the palace, that's out of character for her? lol you should read the novel before judging her character. She had a sole reason to enter the palace,.....

Spoiler

After the death of her grandmother, she knew someone plotted to kill her grandma. So, she wanted to enter the palace to find for the mu*der and take revenge. Also she was intrigued why someone would want to kill a maid's family.

this novel started good. I like the way of writing and the author was really good at world building and everything. (translator is really good too!) but eventually, it lost it's spark (for me) ... more>>
Spoiler

after the female lead asked for a title from the crown prince.

[collapse]

i was really invested in the attitude of the fML at first. she is diligent and had no ambitions of climbing the throne. and I was really fascinated by her values.
Spoiler

that she didn't seek for anything aside from freedom even after sleeping with the crown prince.

[collapse]

i felt like her whole personality crumbled down after that request. as a reader, I felt kind of betrayed by her sudden choices...

Spoiler

she started as someone who had no goals nor ambitions. and then suddenly asking for a title because of the favor and after the disaster that had struck. her.

[collapse]

imo, that's so hypocrite of her. and its really annoying. like I would understand if that's her goal in the first place. but it wasn't.

so yep. im dropping this novel. summary will get people hooked though <<less
