The next moment, a demon with a dog’s head timidly approached: “Our king has heard of the holy monk’s arrival and sent me to welcome you.

The king has prepared a feast, and we humbly invite the five of you to join us.”

The TL hasn't gotten too far yet, but I really feel like this is the sort of novel I'll enjoy the heck out of. MC has a nice personality, kind without being afraid to use threats/violence when needed, and I really like how he's determined to stay on his own path. Curious how it'll go when ML appears~

Edit: finished the complete novel and while the same things still bother me, the extras helped improve my impression of the MC a little.

Also the ending does not justify his lack of growth shown through the novel and the ending was so anticlimactic.

TLDR: interesting worlds, meh MC, lackluster romance, rushed ending, and okay extras.

The worlds are Chinese folk stories that the MC becomes a part of and eventually changes. The synopsis is just about the first world, which admittedly is a large chunk of the novel.

I enjoyed the worlds and learning about Chinese stories that I hadn't heard about before, but my enjoyment was brought down by the MC and his lack of growth.

MC is a s*umbag, just not in a traditional sense. He is the type that is kind to everyone, but sincere to only himself. I get he has trust issues because of his first life so I understood why he kept everyone at a distance at first, but he never grows. He lives for thousands of years, but never changes, holding on to something that happened in his first life that was a mere 20 something years.

He even gets called out on his s*umbag ways, changes a little for one world, then is back to his old tricks. Don't even get me started on how he treats the ML, he treats ML like most MCs treat the second ML.

ML is okay. Not my favorite, but at least he showed growth of character. He starts out childlike physically and emotionally even though he is thousands of years old and slowly grows through each of the arcs.

The romance is... non existent. Literally, it goes from ML chasing the MC to the MC being like meh, okay I'm with you. Then nothing is shown about their relationship, just some hints that they might actually have physical relations.

I would have loved to see the MC grow and let go of the past, maybe the catalyst being an ML that was more mature and one that he didn't know as a "kid". The romance as it actually is, I would have rather the author just left it out completely and just have the MC heal through the power of friendship.

That all being said, I did really enjoy the MC making others life's more enjoyable, especially weaved in these known stories. I'm not upset I read it, just I know this romance will randomly bug me for months.

The translator was great. The addition of the Chinese story each world was based on was given and for one they even included a YouTube video. Thanks translator! <<less

Quite readable with mtl, an enjoyable and lighthearted read up until the end, which came seemingly out of nowhere. Read this if you want to read a chill story where the MC hops into the settings of different Chinese mythologies only to live his dream life of farming and eating good food.

I haven't read the extras, but there is practically no BL in the main story, apart from the ML's one sided crush. MC seems aroace to me, though he finally accepts the ML near the end. Even then it feels quite one sided emotionally.

A light-hearted quick transmigration novel, although the ending is abit abrupt I thought it's done well enough. This novel reads like a series of short stories, quite fun, but the characters are usually just by-standers, and the cast is pretty small. Not just that, but the emotional line between the MC and ML are kind of a mess. You have no idea how and when they actually get together and fall in love, their chemistry is nonexistent. This novel is excellent, highly recommend! As others hv mentioned romance is not the main focal point of this novel but it is there - what I enjoyed the most however is the Chinese mythology tales and stories. I also loved how the MC influenced all those around him, whether making them farm, reforming them from evil to good, or correcting other ppl to change their views on certain things rlly is just heartwarming to me. The translator also did a fantastic job on translating this work - worth reading!

I was shocked to find that I was on the last chapter.. I was reluctant to finish reading this.. The romance was very subplot.. I liked how MC never forget his love for farming even tho he was in a very desolate place.. I liked how he handled every situations calmly and never lose his cool.. It's a very slice-of-life and lighthearted qt novel.. The worlds were wonderful.. Its based on chinese myths and fairytale..

This is a no burn, so if you want overt romance, step away. BUT, it's very cute, a light read, no angst, good fantasy vibe, well plotted and very enjoyable. As for the super slow burn on the romance, I actually prefer that to the "every second chapter is just metaphors for s*x because of censorship" LOOK, there are only SO many ways you can write about boats on oceans before it just becomes an embarrassment, I'd rather no romance than than "plot overrun by ML and MC being smutty... more>> in vague". Gave this a five star because it didn't drag on past it being engaging, stayed on plot, and had good character development without villainising anyone overly much. Extra kudos for having good female characters who aren't brainless plot devices. <<less

It's there and it's sweet, but it takes a super long time to get to it, and by the time it does, it doesn't explode with passion, but instead, it's only very vaguely implied 😭

Like I get it. It's shounen ai, but I was really hoping the yaoi tag would prove itself useful 😭

Still, this is definitely recommended. Note the tags tho. Heavy on the slice-of-life, but I quite enjoyed how much the MC loved farming, and it's played off several times as a point of humor. MC does see some character growth, and there's a larger overarching story that gets trickled in with hints and foreshadowing.

Also something that will always get a big ++ from me: decent female characters who have their own growth, without taking away from the main story of the MC, only adding to the charm of this story.

Edit: I'm adding the romantic subplot tag, and removing the yaoi tag.

The main couple get together at the last arc, and the story ends with just the MC. I'm keeping my rating, but I feel conflicted. Maybe if I was in an even tiny bit less of a good mood, I definitely would have knocked off a few stars just for that unsatisfying ending alone lol but fiiiiine I'll settle for the extras.

Edit: nvm, I'm definitely knocking off a star for that ending. Majority of the plot lines and characters should have been tied up in the official ending, but seems like it's been relegated to extras that are locked behind pwd. <<less

OMG - what a beautiful story the translate was done well and the story so good. I read some reviews and spoiled myself a bit but it let me really enjoy the romance. When the romance with the ML started it was very natural, but started when one was a little younger then I prefer but I like that there was time away from each other between the two so they could grow then come together.

I loved how unlike other QT novels, this was mostly about mythological creatures and their sub plots. The female empowerment element was a nice addition to the novel as well since mostly BLs have villainous ladies. I agree with other reviewers that the romance although hinted from the start fell quite bland. If the romance had been slightly well written, it would have been 5/5.

I honestly liked this a lot more in terms of emotional line than something like Solo Leveling. But that might be a genre thing.
