She still remembered that during the Lantern Festival that year, she stood on the busy street with colorful lanterns hanging high, surrounded by vendors and pedestrians.

But her mind was all on the handsome man sitting leaning on the railing——

Although it was only a brief glance, her heart was already secretly promised.

Even better, that man was her fiancé…

A year later, she married him with full joy.

But all her imagination of happiness was shattered by his own hands on their wedding night!

It turned out that he didn’t want to marry her at all. Everything was because of his own forced choice.

It turned out that he didn’t love her at all. Everything was her own fault.

Then, he chose the day of the Lantern Festival to give her a divorce letter…

She was too s*upid, thinking that as long as she gave sincerely, she would be rewarded.

She didn’t know how unpredictable the human heart was, and she didn’t know that the humbler she was, the more she would be trampled on.

Since then, she no longer felt aggrieved or tolerated and became her true self.

That unbearable marriage and the man who hurt her deeply, she buried them deep in her heart and never wanted to remember them again.

Unexpectedly, only two short years had passed, she actually met him again, and it was on the Lantern Festival night that she hated the most…

I completed this because it was short, but found neither of the main characters interesting or enjoyable to read about. Found the raws for this, so no comments about the translation. Would not recommend this to someone only looking for the adult scenes, or anyone else for that matter.

The author claims the female lead dealt with business partners ruthlessly but that isn’t happening whenever we actually see her working in the present setting. There’s a lot of praise for her from side characters but none of it is shown in... more>> her actions. She’s emotionally weak and throws fits or gives into the male lead repeatedly, which makes me curious about the “calm protagonist” tag being included.

The male lead grabs at and carries her whenever he feels like it, manipulates her in the name of business, and uses bystanders to pressure her, and this is after he’s decided on reconciliation. Of course he spent the two years they were married belittling and emotionally neglecting her before ruining her reputation, but since he feels bad about it that’s all fine. He even feels that he’s overly devoted to her after everything.

The only people who face any consequences are some of the male lead’s family, and it’s not especially satisfying, much like the rest of the novel. <<less

Read the other reviews--

In addition to everything else being the biggest eyeroll, the elephant in the room that nobody mentioned is the dad. The author changed the ML dad's backstory in order make him a weirdly sympathetic character. Yet all the other women in the novel are just pure villains.

I absolutely detest CN authors (which are the majority of them btw) who villainize bourdoir women for no reason, yet give the men golden paved paths to redemption without batting an eyelash.

Spoiler

Initially, the author wrote that the ML hated his father/his family bc his mother died from heart ache after finding out that his father had another woman outside and her child was 7 years old by the time she became pregnant with him-- that's why he's not the eldest but the second son to begin with. And then thus came the entire novel's plot about how he treated the MC badly.

Fast forward after the two get together, the father is immediately "sympathetic" as a character and the author ret-conned the entire event to say that all the women the father married after the ML's mother passed away resembled her a little.

Uhhhh right. How do you explain the first mistress he had outside apparently for at least 7 years? Lol

[collapse]

Agree 10, 000x on how annoying the ML was. And I'm honestly shocked the author never wrote the MC's concerns of him cheating. They already had a dramatic history of him pretending to run off with a different woman. Plus the ML's dad's serial cheating and the ML cheating on her when they were married (yes, he didn't cheat with the girl he took from the brothel, BUT it's stated many times that he went to brothels a lot when they were married). Add in all the cutscenes at the start of the novel, where ML was at a brothel like 3-4 times lol--it's like the author's brain took a hike for the last half of the novel.

Whooo boy. Terrible male lead who treated FL horribly in the past, and now has to eat crow after reuniting. If you can’t handle a shitty male lead getting his redemption and getting the girl back with a happy ending, stay away. But I’m into these kinds of stories of regrets, angst and redemption. I cried, I cringed, I rolled my eyes, I cussed the ML out, but I had a good time.
