My Darling, Coax Me

Yun Ling was a humble little palace maid.

She had a secret: she knew that the Sixth Prince, currently confined to the Cold Palace, was destined to be the future Crown Prince.

To avoid misfortune, she volunteered to take care of him in the Cold Palace.

The Sixth Prince, Xie Jue, was cruel, ruthless, and possessed a violent temper. He was suspicious and guarded towards her, constantly mocking and threatening her.

But no matter how he treated her, Yun Ling remained by his side, diligently serving him without complaint.

“What do you want?” he asked coldly.

Yun Ling gently coaxed, “I only wish for Your Highness’s well-being. Your Highness’s wishes are also my wishes.”

Xie Jue scoffed, “A lowly person, using sweet words to deceive.”

Yun Ling didn’t mind. She continued to care for him with utmost devotion and consideration.

When he ascended to the East Palace, becoming the heir apparent, second only to the Emperor, she used his influence to escape her own misfortune and seek revenge. Then, she vanished without a trace in a blaze of fire.

Zezhou, thousands of miles away from the capital.

Yun Ling worked as a female tutor, teaching court etiquette to the daughter of a minor official.

Hearing that a carefree Prince had arrived from the capital, Yun Ling feared being recognized and wrote a letter to resign.

But she was informed that the Prince was merely passing through and had already left, and she was asked to continue teaching.

A young servant led Yun Ling to the courtyard. As she pushed open the door, a blizzard swept in, covering the standing man with a blanket of silver.

His face was cold and stern, radiating an aura of frost. He approached her step by step,

“For three whole years, I’ve finally found you.”

In the dim room,

Yun Ling knew his cold and unforgiving nature, his intolerance of deceit. She slowly closed her eyes, awaiting his judgment of life or death.

In the silence,

Xie Jue leaned down and held her in his arms, his grip as if he wanted to crush her. His eyes were red-rimmed, his voice low and fierce,

“I’ll make you my Crown Princess. Don’t run away again, or I really will strangle you.”

…….

Absolutely 5 star!

Not that kind of epic novel but for me this novel solid and the title quite represent this novel.. Some little plot twist here and there make the detail more completed

I like

1. MC character.. No time regression, no future to ancient theme, simply she has a little supernatural ability to see dream at certain age, but MC is smart, know when to retreat and move, still kind but can be firm to everyone include to ML hehe.. And she can fight for what she feel need to... more>> be fight for..

I really like this kind of MC for sure..

2. ML development is so satisfying

3. The relationship dynamic between MC and MC quite realistic.. Align with their psychology and character..

The author can weave between the story, the politic matter and the growth of MC and ML relationship well

4. The ending not rush at all., satisfying

5. Side char story about Qibai and Jinjie really make me cry although HE

I read this novel in condition when I'm quite saturated after reading few other novels, but this novel can hooked me well and I just skip few pages.. This novel are sweet, thrilling but not too much, has Palace and politic intrigued but also not too much, and has proper romantic development between MC and ML..

The politic problem not too difficult to understood but interesting and realistic enough

I can't found something I dislike here hahaha.. The plot quite neat from beginning..I only found 1 smaaallll plot hole about the dog story haha.. But it's really small thing

Go read this novel 😁 <<less

The story starts of strong and exciting. When the first half of the synopsis happens with only 1/4 of the main story chapters done, I was a bit nervous—would this quality be sustained, or will we be trapped in a dragging story loop? The nervousness was warranted as that's exactly what happened.

Spoiler

While the ML grows emotionally, the FL does not--and the author backed themselves into a wall, creating an independent female protagonist who only wanted freedom, that they could only handwave with my prophetic dream said you were my true love so I guess I love you now (even tho I never felt or showed it aside from getting worried about your injury like any human being) more than the freedom I fought for for 60+ chapters.

The story was fast paced on the first chapters. Not something I was used to since historical novels tend to deep dive a lot of areas and these usually takes a lot of time. It’s not a bad thing though, cause the story is more inclined with telling their love story. The story is not cliche, I love it. The translation is good although there are times where I get confused if the person is a he or she. It’s something you can look over since the story is gooooood.... more>> Not you typically’I’d let the world burn if I can’t have you’ storyline, ML is obsessed but at the same time wants MCs love.

I’m lazy with describing things but do know this is worth the time to read. This is coming from someone who is ultimately a picky reader ;) Thank me later when you fell in love with the story! <<less

It's difficult to immerse in the story. MC's profile and development isn't consistent, she was a lowly maid doing rough job and the next instance she was a capable head of imperial household, one day holding broom and the next she was good enough to be tutoring an official's daughter in deportment and etiquette.

The ML is too unlikeable, his hobby was choking MC's neck, I thought after he found her again after 3 years of frantic searching he would have improved, nah, the first thing he did was choking her... more>> neck and pushed her against the wall. This is domestic violence!

The cruelty and brutality in the story is there just for a cheap thrill, probably meant to shock the readers, but it gets tiring and sometimes ridiculous. In midst of battle for royal throne where 3 forces were striking each other, soldiers slaughtering palace attendants were expected, but somehow the rebels still got time for a widespread violations of palace maids. Well, somehow it's ridiculously funny.

The translation is great though, appreciate the translation and the effort put on the notes. <<less

This is the first time I'm writing a review and I'm writing it because I don't want you guys to miss out on such a fantastic book.

This book has such a strong, intelligent and hardworking female lead who stands up to the ml. I'm was so happy to find a FL like that because it is very rare in Chinese novels.

Also the translator did such a fantastic job, truly thankful.

I give this novel a maximum score of 4. After 10 years of reading novels, I can say that the author's writing was not very good. The story was beautiful at first, but it was not written as it should be. And from a certain point on, it became completely predictable and clichéd. But I give the translator's translation a score of 5. She translated very well and the points she made at the end of each chapter were very comprehensive. Even though I have read a lot of Chinese... more>> novels and knew the approximate meaning of all the points she made, there were still points that were new and interesting to me. <<less

It’s a beautiful story except for the story of Xiao Qibai and Xie Jinjia. Not sure why the author wrote such a sad story for them. They deserved a happy ending. The extras didn't make it better. How I wish there was an extra with a happy ending for the game of three. Felt very disappointed and sad.

Wow this is a genuine gem, definitely deserving of 4.3 stars +

Plot: This story has the perfect balance of courtly affairs and complexities whilst not being too politically delved to the point of being a drag. It's a big part but even people who may find such a genre boring would still enjoy this story. Other than that it's a typical chasing wife to the crematorium type of story, just with a political subplot. It's interesting as the romance isn't really the main theme (this can be a negative and... more>> positive really) Sure it's there all the time but the story really fleshes out the MC relationships and abilities especially her rise to power throughout the novel. It's remarkable how it can juggle so many themes whilst simultaneously still being interesting to avoid fans of conflicting genres.

Mc= Now this is one tough cookie. Seeing how she fairs better than the typical transmigrator shows her ability. The MC is one of my favourite ones, human in how she struggles and struggles, slowly rising to power whilst always knowledgeable of the courtesy and affairs of the palace. She knows how to survive in such an environment and it's due to her general likability and her personality. She fights when she wants to and doesn't hesitate to show how she feels, even for her little love. You see, she's not only tough, shrewd, ruthless and smart, but also kindred, coaxing (why else would it be called that lol) level headed, righteous and indiscriminate, garnering many individual's respect and support whilst also outsmarting and enacting justice on her 'enemies'.

Spoiler

Though not really an enemy per say, more like a petty brat, one of the noble ladies reach for the classic falling into a lake trick and the MC without any hesitation or despair literally jumps in before her to not be framed

[collapse]

Spoiler

The best example of her righteousness has to be how earlier on, someone who wronged her or the prince can be killed without a single care on her part but the moment an innocent civilian (that scholar man who likes her or her self proclaimed sister) is threatened, she would sacrifice limb and knee for them to not be unjustly punished. It's actually quite commendable. Kudos to you Yun ling

[collapse]

Ml: Now as an almost direct juxtaposition to our calm MC we have our cold, ruthless and untrusting main man, "gu" aka the crown prince. Quite the tsundere to me really. He really struggles with his emotions for MC before the end, wavering between dislike for her maid status whilst also wanting to embrace her tightly and not let go. Obviously from our MC point of view he seemed unreasonable and possessive, thus pushing her to run away due to her not wanting to bear with it anymore (it was quite unfair to be honest) However in the end he turns out to be quite touchy and lovey, letting MC to be unrestrained and stubborn (herself essentially) with him whilst not hesitant in giving her what she wants. Quite doting really. A good mixture of unyielding yandere and arrogant but truly good lover.

Some good moments of this are:

Spoiler

Still when she says she doesn't want to be a mere plaything in the palace aka a consort so he misunderstands slightly and after thinking gives her the elected title of crown princess

[collapse]

Spoiler

When he admits (with his stubbornness this is a miracle in itself) that in the 3 years he was away that he missed her more than he hated her

[collapse]

Spoiler

When getting jealous of the scholar guy after her firm denial he asks her again and believes in what she says instead of simply misunderstanding the MC like many ML do. It's small but cute

[collapse]

Spoiler

The best has to be all the lovey interactions between the two after the escape drama. He's always holding and embracing her figure, petting her head and pushing her onto his lap to sleep. Also he never forced her to get married to him straight away, on the contrary she actually marries him a little later, first solving her family issue

[collapse]

Overall, their relationship is quite lovely, tense and interesting in the start a little cute yet flirty in the end. The two are also very rational, solving their issues by consulting each other and mostly talking it out. In the end, though their romance was a little slow and one sided (his part, the FL is quite evident in her denial which mainly stemmed from their social status difference) it slowly grew into a beautiful thing.

Spoiler

Still when she admitted she not didn't want to be his consort or his crown princess despite his belief that she did want to marry him was actually pretty funny to be honest especially when she didn't bother telling the eunuch an about it

Overall, a lovely story. The plot is fairly simple, and there aren't many unexpected twists--though the author is clever with the FL's wordplay, ect. I also appreciate how the author tries to reconcile the power dynamics and relationship between a possessive emperor and his subject. I wouldn't say the author succeeds--the genre makes that impossible, no one will be more fundamentally powerful than the emperor--but the author tries. Still 5 stars, helped by the phenomenal translation quality.

If I were to nitpick:

Spoiler
  • The author does their best to convey the emotional growth of the ML, but there are weird transitions that don't feel very organic or genuine? As if the author themself can't imagine what it would be like to pack around that kind of trauma with mega power influence, and then trying to become a reasonable human being.
  • Very few actual setbacks for the couple, all of the military battles/palace intrigue gets Sherlock'd with minimal ish effort. There's only one somewhat meaningful loss (little palace maid) that's hard to feel upset about because it's such an obvious plot device. This wouldn't be problem, except...
  • There's this bizarre tragedy surrounding the supporting couple. Like, I was full on crying in the extras tragedy--which I did not do once in the rest of the novel. There is a happier ending for them in the very last extra, but the angst is definitely present. Yet the rest of the story doesn't really channel those vibes?
  • The author was definitely trying to dig into why some of these relationships are dysfunctional, but just couldn't quite stick the landing. Like they got some of it right, and then took some shortcuts. And shortcuts are OK if you want a lighter story, but then you have that complicated mess of a supporting couple. As a reader I want consistent emotional payoff: either suspension of disbelief but still satisfying, or "wow this got real quick" with big payoff.

Truly a wonderful read! I love both MCs! They are both compelling. Each has their own unique way of thinking and doing things. Romance is sizzling!

I would like to thank the translator for doing a great job in translating this story. The translator has properly conveyed the emotions and thoughts of each character.

For those of you who can't find the translation, you need to make an account on NU and then you'll be able to find the link to the translated novel. I was going nuts trying to find it. I actually read it via computer translation the first time around (still good since I really like the novel) but I rather read the official translated version. The offical translated version was wayyy better and you could tell the translator spent a lot of time on perfecting the story/translation. (I have already... more>> re-read this several times.)

I'm not going to get into this book too much since there's a bunch of other reviews here but this is one of my favorite cnovels. I love the fast pacing of this novel. The ML is very moody and harsh but after about a third of the story, he warms up and get very cute. <<less

Such a hidden gem! I love me a good equally smart and clever FL and ML, you don't get to have that in novels most of the times. I love that this wasn't an isekai or reincarnation, altho Yun Ling (FL) did have powers where she can dream of the future, albeit it's very not that prominent in the story. It was mostly just used at the beginning to push her to interact with Xie Jue (ML) but other than that, all her actions have been from her own judgement... more>> alone, which I really really liked about this.

Spoiler

The first half of the story was full of tense as Xie Jue does not want to acknowledge and accept that he has feelings for Yun Ling, a lowly palace maid at the time. I think it reached up to chapters 60 or so before he shows signs of accepting his feelings. The first half chapters gave me mixed feelings about him because he was really such a tsundere and would tend to say harsh words to her so it's really not obvious when he started liking her. But at the second half we do get to see his development and how he accepted that he can't live without her.

I like the part when Yun Ling ran away but it was such a short part of the story even though she was gone for 3 years. I thought the author could have given us a bit more of what happened within those 3 years just to give the feeling that she really was gone for awhile but there was just a time skip and next thing you know Xie Jue found her again.

After reuniting, they went through numerous push and pulls. Xue Jue wants her then to the point of making her the Crown Princess because she said she didn't want to be his Consort. Yun Ling finally found her family and they postponed their announcement of marriage until she's included within the family register. Her stepsis at the time was spoiled and hated her so she instigated Yun Ling which lead to her realizing how she never was honest to him and told him everything from why she worked for him and how she stayed so loyal to him, which was all just so she could survive and not really out of loyalty. They broke off for awhile before ultimately making up again and being more vocal with one another. Xue Jie wants to own her completely but Yun Ling doesn't like being forced, they made up and compromised with each other until the end.

I love the twins so much! They're so adorable! How fitting that they got their parents looks and personalities equally. I can only imagine how powerful they'd be when the grow up.

The extras when yun ling and xie jue went to a parallel world was so bittersweet! Her life there was all she had ever wanted but her husband doesn't love her. And when he finally did she needs to leave him. That departure where yun ling died really broke my heart I cant imagine it being a real world where yun ling left one xie jue for the original xie jue in her life. That would be so cruel when she loved him wholeheartedly and thinks they're both the same husband she has. At first I actually thought these extras were just a part of her powers acting up or something, but turns out it's mostly for Xie Jue to save him from his impending karmic retribution from all the lives he took and sins he committed.

Also, why is the author so mean to xie jinjia and xiao qibai. I hope the last part of their extra meant that she will be back to them someday.

[collapse]

Overall, I really love this novel! It was slow burn in romance but definitely worth the wait! <<less

I did not finish. So my review is based off of the chapters I did read.

The female lead is wonderful. In an ancient era where women aren't always treated well, she is depicted as someone who understands their position and tries to make the best of it.

I would have been okay if the novel even ended in ML and FL not ending up together, thats how much I love the FL.

Spoiler

I was very satisfied with the FL choices. But I decided to stop reading after the ML and FL affirmed their love for eachother (altho the female lead didn't openly say it) because while the plot for the first half was fully fresh, the second half went back to those overly convoluted "but she has a secret identity" kind of things. Which takes away from the fact that the emperor did infact take his maid from cold palace as his wife.

There's no transmigrated or time traveling in this story. Just a smart FL who has inherented the power to have a life saving dream once. FL uses that dream to make decisions and clings to that golden thigh to survive the palace. Granted, it is a short novel so things so move at a fast pace. For example, political issues, family problems, and mishaps get solved quickly (which I don't mind whatsoever. I'm in for the ml/FL romance!) The main story does have an abrupt ending but the side stories... more>> make up for it. There are some issues of the side characters the author took very little time to go into detail of how it was solved and what transpired but it doesn't effect the overall main story.

Long story short if you're like me and want all that usual novel twist and turns but without the prolonged drama and misunderstanding for 300+ chapters then this is a must read!

Give it a shot before you turn it down. The translator also did an excellent job! A+ I'm looking forward to the rest of the side stories being translated!! <<less

After sifting through over fifty novel suggestions, I chose to start with this one — and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. I finished it in less than two days because I simply couldn't stop reading. This novel completely swept me away from beginning to end, and I can confidently say it's one of the best, if not the best, historical Chinese romance novels I've ever read.

The male lead, Xie Jue, is the true embodiment of a tyrant — not just in name... more>> like in so many other stories where the so-called "tyrant" is secretly misunderstood or a softie. Xie Jue is genuinely ruthless, cold, and domineering, shaped by brutal experiences and survival instincts. He's a brilliant leader, but a tyrant nonetheless — and the story never shies away from that truth. His harshness, possessiveness, and struggles are so well-written that you understand why he is the way he is, even when his actions make your heart ache.

The relationship between Yun Ling and Xie Jue is the heart of the novel, and it's absolutely unforgettable. Their dynamic is complicated by the imbalance of power — master and servant — which the story portrays with honesty and depth. Yun Ling's devotion stems not from pure affection, but from survival, something Xie Jue doesn't truly understand until she escapes him. Watching their relationship evolve — from mistrust and coercion to genuine love and partnership — was breathtaking. Their bond felt painfully real, raw, and full of tension, and when it finally blossoms, it's deeply satisfying.

This novel leaves nothing out. It's complete — from the early struggles, to Xie Jue's point of view, to the richly detailed side stories, and even the life they build together afterward. We get to see them raise their children, heal from their wounds, and live the future they fought so hard to achieve. Every character feels alive, every ending feels earned, and nothing is rushed or left behind.

I went into this novel hoping for something good — and came out completely overwhelmed by how perfect it was. It's the kind of story that lingers in your heart long after you've turned the last page. I wish I could experience it all over again for the first time.

I'm truly thankful to the writer for creating such a beautiful story, and to the translation team for their incredible time, care, and dedication in bringing this series to life. Without their hard work, we wouldn't have been able to experience this masterpiece. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. <<less

It's easily five stars for me, one of my best reads this year. I won't spoil the story bc I'm not really good with words. Also, others have done it before.

This is a page-turner book to the point that I slept late. I can't stop reading. I can say the author really knows how to play with words. Its been a long time since I feel like this.

Also, kudos to the translator for their great job.

Overall this is a great read. Both FL and ML are smart and scheming and they complement each other well. Plus I like how ML's personality remains the same even with FL and his personality doesn't just do a 180. The author tried to show how the power dynamic between the main couple was very unfair and only after they both compromise do they get together for real. The side couple made me so sad but their situation made sense. Overall I enjoyed reading this

I love this novel. Our FL is so smart, and she sticks to her principles, in the face of the ML’s overwhelming power. Their cat and mouse game is on point.

The ML goes through a really satisfying wife chasing crematorium.

There are so many good reviews I thought I would love this so much and I liked most of it but it's not the best thing you'll ever read. The book is well written atleast and the translation is great but the story is pretty simple. The conflict isn't that intense and so it's a good light book to read This book is really simple and the writing is okay. The translation is great too. The FL honestly started annoying me as the book was progressing, I guess both the... more>> FL and ML became annoying and I didn't even read the extra stories because I was just happy to be done. It's honestly really good at first but it feels like there is so much potential the story had that it never reached. Don't read this book expecting interesting political machinations from the crown prince and he's tsundere behaviour was also kinda disappointing. After he gets her again after the three years this book honestly becomes boring so 3 start since I enjoyed it at first. <<less
