Before Feng Yi ascended to the throne, no one wanted to marry him- a prince with no sense of existence and no favour. After becoming Emperor, the harem was stuffed full with daughters of important court officials. Seeing them hurt his eyes, dealing with them made him annoyed, and pampering them all felt as if he was dirtying his dragon body. He decided to choose a woman with a hot temper, who was shrewish, arrogant, domineering and jealous, to enter the Palace so that she could banish all this garbage to the cold palace.

Song Yunzhao transmigrated into ancient times 14 years ago. She grew up sleazy and lived cautiously, just waiting for the plot to unfold. Then, she would transform into an arrogant, domineering, fierce, and jealous villainess, waiting to be defeated so that she could choose a husband and live a carefree life.

Later, Song Yunzhao looked at the Emperor, who was smiling at her indulgently, and said, “Zhao Zhao, come here.” Song Yunzhao felt that the turn of events was far from good, and her feet went cold. The dog emperor had a gentle and soft expression, but his eyes were cold. It was obvious that he wanted to use her as a knife.

Dropping this novel as not into dog emperor.

This is a story about a modern woman X mysophobic emperor with old views. MC had to lay out the foundation and "fix" his mindset to match hers.

And this is the main reason for my drop, I can't stand the fact that MC was forcefully shove into the imperial harem and still had to scheme to make the dog ML fell in love with her. It just don't see that as a "romance" at all. As they say a melon that is forced... more>> off the vine before it's ripe won't be sweet. This is 100% an imperial harem intrigue first before romance.

The other reason is that I don't feel comfortable with the family aspect of the story. Not saying their ending is not deserving but it's very hard to hate a character for their action that is highly influenced by external factor. The author would sometimes acknowledge it but sometimes prepares the nail and missed it.

Take for example MC's mother. It was very clear that she was having a Postpartum depression or worse after MC's birth. And one of the main reason for this is because she was being pressured to give birth to a son and seeing a daughter didn't really help that. Not saying that MC should let her mother step on her, just that it's very hard to get mad at her especially knowing that she couldn't even get the right care if she wanted to. Then, the author didn't even bother pointing it out and just mask it as mother being sexist when in reality a mother instantly hating her newborn to the point of wanting nothing to do with the baby (or even killing the baby) is mostly because of postpartum depression or worst.

Then there's MC's father. At where I'm at, it feels like author isn't sure if she wants the father to be a great dad or a hypocritical one? It pointed out how he was very cowards and just talks, especially when most of them problem is because of him and providing no sense of security to his wife. Yet prior the selection, he was shown as this very supportive father that was willing to even divorce the wife who was having an untreated and severe postpartum depression.

I feel like they should be redeemed later? Considering that MC is now close to the same people that schemed against her. The only exception would probably be the oldest sister as she's very cruel to MC and put the original host in a dead pitt. I just find it pitiful as she's 15 and heavily bias against MC because of her mother's postpartum depression biases and no one really doing their job as the parent.

Overall, I would recommend this if you want harem intrigue and okay with a stockholm syndrome vibes, skip if you just want a sweet romance. <<less

This novel is interesting.

If you enjoy a bit of face-slapping, a bit of romantic tension, and a LOT of harem drama, then this novel is for you.

The female lead has a personality that I like very much, she's witty and quick with her words, and this novel makes me laugh quite a lot. I like that the FL isn't some wilting flower, that she has ambition, makes the most of circumstances beyond her control, and even uses a bit of manipulation.

She's certainly a complex character, has her moments of hypocrisy... more>> and does some things I don't agree with, but in my opinion that just makes her more interesting. It also helps that she only looks for fights when she thinks that she has no other choice. FL isn't irritating, and that's a big plus.

The ML is kind of milquetoast, ngl. I mean, he is very clearly a character in his own right, he's funny and sassy, and watching the two of them bounce off each other is very fun, but it's clear, at least at this point, that their relationship is more mutual gain than genuine feelings. The romance is VERY slow burn, so beware.

^^hope the author expands more on the ML in the future, hope the author makes it feel natural too, but that can be difficult.

Spoiler

as for the sister and mother, I'm not sure how I feel about what's happened to them so far. I sympathize with Cai Shi as a woman, especially since she has clearly been unwell for years, but as the child of an abusive and neglectful mother, reading her troubles has been vindicating. just... idk

only one concubine has died so far, and it feels like the reason was kinda flimsy??? that's just my opinion tho.

[collapse]

anyway, overall a good drama novel, the romance is slooow but the feelings seem to be taking root, and the face slapping is enough to break skin.

Overall rating 7.5/10 for personal scale, i'd read it again, and will continue reading for now, but it does have a few problems, and the romance so far is mid. <<less
