I possessed the terminally ill character in my friend’s disastrous novel.

So, it’s basically the same as saying I’m immortal.

So he's not terminally ill but his ability has a drawback that feeds on his life because of which the original character couldn't use it and was left in a weak state. But with his knowledge of the "original novel", he finds a way to recover and starts training his weakened body.

That aside the novel is full of tropes, both in the sense that the original story parodied or deliberately subverted them, and the MC constantly comments on how "these things aren't popular nowadays" when he disagrees with the implementation... more>> of one of such tropes.

As the tags mention, there are harem romcom elements, and while the MC isn't quite as dense as the original protagonist, he's not particularly perceptive when it comes to himself or anything that deviates from the original setting. He's also not the smart scheming type of protagonist, although he tries to be, which leads to occasional comedic interactions.

The characters aren't particularly deep, but they're somewhat intense in their archetypes, which leads to plenty of situational humour as well.

Unfortunately, the overall plot still progresses in a somewhat clichéed way that I'm personally not too fond of, but among the novels I've rated as 4 stars, it's one of the better ones, so it's probably closer to 4.5. <<less
