In order to deal with the hetero-species, some humans began to evolve. Evolution splits roughly into two paths: Sentinels, who gain extreme strength, speed, and senses but tend to lose rationality; and Guides, who seem unchanged except for an ability to calm Sentinels. Sentinels are common, Guides are rare, and every Guide receives special treatment.
