Specifically, the three corrupt figures in the television industry who mu*dered his childhood friend. The need for revenge burns deep in Yuki’s soul. He is only able to keep sane by clinging to his three self-imposed rules for revenge:

No matter what happens, act alone.

Do not involve anyone other than your targets.

If you fail, admit your crimes without complaint.

The stage for Yuki’s revenge will be Kakuriyo Island, a small tidal island south of Kagoshima Prefecture whose population was wiped out long ago in the bizarre mass-mu*der incident known as “The Beast of Kakuriyo Island case”. Though officially solved, the Beast of Kakuriyo Island is still the subject of many unsolved mysteries, not the least of which is the sheer, inhuman brutality of the crimes.

A television production crew comes to Kakuriyo Island to film a true crime special in which Mikumo Echika, an up and coming singer-songwriter and the descendant of the island’s former head priestess, will visit her family’s former home and discuss the incident that claimed her birthright. Yuki, having infiltrated the production as an AD, plans to trap them all and kill all three of his targets on the island with his own two hands.

But his plans are derailed when his first target is slain – by something else. Burning with rage that one of the men who killed Naoko will never suffer for his crimes, Yuki vows to confront both the killer and the remaining victims.

But his new enemy isn’t a mere human. The Beast of Kakuriyo Island is very real, and if Yuki seeks to achieve his revenge, he must learn what it is, how it operates… and how he can work around it and still manage to get away with mu*der.

Eventually, he and Rena were married, but now, the curse threatens to steal away their happiness.

As a promotional stunt for the game’s upcoming sequel, eight real life great detectives have been hand chosen by Kurata Chikage, executive director of MegalodonSoft, to challenge each other to a match in a demo of Mystery Maker 2. Among them are Kamo Touma, a magazine contributor well known for his investigative work overturning false convictions, and his wife’s cousin Ryuuzen Yuki, a recently debuted mystery novelist.

However, on the day of the demo event, the detectives are all drugged. When they awaken, they find their smartwatches are locked to their wrists and they are shown videos of their families and loved ones being held hostage. They are contacted by a Gamemaster, who tells them that if they wish to save themselves and their families, they must play a death game called “Delicious Death for Detectives”.

As scheduled, the eight of them will play Mystery Maker 2’s demo, and the Detectives will challenge the mu*der puzzles created by the mu*derer. If the Detectives are not able to reveal the mu*derer and their tricks before the time limit, all players will be killed. However, if the mu*derer is exposed, both they and their hostages will be killed. And if a Detective makes an accusation but gets even the tiniest detail wrong, they will be mu*dered in real life by the Gamemaster’s secret accomplice, the Executioner.

Now the only way for the eight detectives to survive is to expose the mu*derer and Executioner lurking among them, even if they must risk their lives and those of their compatriots to do so.

Which is an especially big problem for Kamo, because he’s the one who’s been chosen as the mu*derer! <<less
