Meng Yan was born a beautiful woman in a large courtyard, with eyes like autumn water and brows like crescent moons. Her appearance was as charming as a peach blossom, capable of captivating hearts with every smile or furrow of her brow.

However, born as a daughter of a poor family, her beauty became a curse.

At the age of eighteen, Meng Yan was relentlessly pursued by a paranoid man who threatened to ruin her if she refused him.

To escape, Meng Yan volunteered for rural work, but the madman followed her!

In desperation, Meng Yan’s father sought help from an influential friend to find a capable man to marry his daughter, hoping to end the relentless pursuit of the paranoid man.

Coincidentally, the son of the influential figure’s friend, stationed on a remote island as a young and promising military officer, was of marriageable age.

Though the island conditions were harsh, he was honest and handsome. The question remained whether a delicate girl like Meng Yan could endure…

“I can! I’m willing!” Harsh conditions were nothing compared to escaping the paranoid man!

Jiang Shaoyu, a young talent, show no interest in others but the island life.

After seven years on the island, he had served his country and organization well but had disappointed his parents.

Despite their efforts to introduce him to several potential partners, he rejected them all.

Then he received a letter with a photo of a girl.

“Here’s a potential match for you, a lovely and gentle girl.”

Indeed, she was beautiful and gentle, stirring Jiang Shaoyu’s heart after twenty-six years of solitude.

Yet, remembering the harsh island life, he firmly declined.

But before he could send the rejection letter, the girl arranged for by his family had already arrived on the island with his subordinates, who jokingly called her “sister-in-law.”

His mother was right; the girl was indeed beautiful — with skin like jade and eyes that sparkled.

“Hello, Comrade Jiang Shaoyu.”

Dressed sharply in military uniform with cold and resolute features, he looked at her with polite rejection.

“Comrade Meng Yan, you still have a chance to change your mind. If you can’t bear the island’s conditions, I’ll have my subordinates send you home.”

Meng Yan looked at the vast blue sea behind him and the desolate land, clenched her fists, and declared firmly:

“No regrets. Comrade Jiang Shaoyu, I’ve made up my mind to be with you!”

Meng Yan transmigrated into a cannon fodder supporting character in a period novel.

In the subsequent plot, Meng Yan was supposed to marry the paranoid supporting male character and endure a repressive and violent marriage.

Meng Yan wasn’t a masochist. So, after transmigrating, she decisively changed the novel’s plot, choosing a certain island officer as her future spouse. She decided to dedicate the latter half of her life to the island.

Honestly, that officer had a good personality and was quite handsome. No regrets there.

Little did she know, after landing on the island, she discovered it was nothing like the barren and desolate place she imagined!

Coconuts, mangoes, guavas, occasional sightings of wild animals…

Gathering clams, crabs, and small octopuses by the shore with her partner…

Barren land? Scarce freshwater? No vegetables to eat?

Then let’s cultivate the land together and build a beautiful island!

DNF. I couldn't finish it. It was too boring for me. Slice of life, I usually like. I was hoping this would be romantic slice of life, instead I got island slice of life. I am 1/3rd of the way through it and there's not much romance.

A few things I didn't like were:

    • Author's view on women's equality (with men) - Author seem to think dumping work on men - like cooking - is considered equality. However, I believe equality - as the word implies - responsibilities shared EQUALLY. Meaning if one partner is good at cooking, then one would cook and the other would clean. Or if both are good, then they take turns cooking.
    • In Author's opinion - seems like MC can be unemployed and yet this lady that MC lives with suggests that MC let ML do all the cooking everyday after he comes back from his work. I do NOT agree with this view of equality.
    • Also some characters including MC - say things that don't follow up with actions. Like how she says she wants to be independent (as a modern era woman) and yet keeps asking ML for money and tickets or to fetch water from faraway etc.
    • There was even a part where some other characters give tips to MC on "how to tame her husband". Why is there a need to tame each other? Why should wife tame husband or husband tame wife?
    • MC considers herself "Modern era woman" and yet (another example of MC's character inconsistency) -
      • she doesn't want to take initiative to chase ML (even tho she wants to be with him).
      • She is baffled by ML wanting to kiss and runs away in embarrassment glaring at him - even tho she had 2 boyfriends in her past life and one of them was even for a whole year.
Anyway after the above, I was weary if author would follow thru and ens*ave ML or make MC look down on ML. So I lost interest in reading further and dropped.

Also - not a major spoiler since this is revealed in first 5 or so chapters - why did MC have to go to island? Didn't she believe that she got rid of her stalker? If she is worried about oriML and oriFL - then she just have to stay out of their way? Anyway I think her reason to go to island is not very convincing.

It's truly a light novel to pass time. As a starter, I only need to read 1 chapter from the translator to be interested to read the rest of the story. So I read the mtl version from chap 2-72.

If you want to read a-not so many drama-sweet-short novel, you can try this. I gave this 4 stars because I felt that aside from the fast-paced setting—which I love—there are many things left 'unattended' by the Author.

The FL left her home to marry the ML and we didn't even get... more>> to see even the slightest moment of family reunion? That's why I thought this novel deserves side stories. (It also ended abruptly as it ended with the birth of their daughter, and that's it. Not even a glimpse of how both parents would react, the siblings, neighbors, nothing!)

But what I also loved about this novel is how the author wrote the lovey-dovey moments between the FL and ML 🫶🏻🫶🏻 I truly can get the tickling feeling in my belly even tho I'm only a reader 😂

But thanks for picking this novel up, the translator did a good job 👍🏻 <<less
