Shu Yuan transmigrated to the 1980s right in the middle of a matchmaking session. The matchmaker was spitting with excitement, saying, “Just look at her, such a pretty face, returned from the countryside, never even dated before!”

Shu Yuan thought, that’s not right. The original host not only dated someone, she had already given birth to a child!

The original host had fallen in love with a sent-down doctor while in the countryside, gotten pregnant by accident, secretly gave birth to the child, and had the baby fostered by a farming family.

A few years before returning to the city, the two had already gone their separate ways.

Shu Yuan hurried off to find the child who had been sold. The skinny little boy was squatting on the ground feeding a fire, with a snot-nosed little girl in front of him who didn’t look too bright. Shu Yuan was furious. What era was this? How could there still be child husbands?

That little fellow was a supporting male character in the novel, a future literary giant who had suffered beatings, begged for food, and endured a miserable fate, spending his life searching for his birth parents, just to ask why they had abandoned him.

And Shu Yuan was the biological mother of the male supporting character, and she died early in frustration while chasing after her so-called true love.

The boy’s father, a future titan of the medical world, had spent most of his life searching for the child to no avail.

After much effort, Shu Yuan finally found the child and called Chen Zai: “Come and pick up your wife and kid.”

There was a full thirty seconds of silence on the other end before the man’s steady voice replied, “Alright.”

When they registered their marriage, Chen Zai warned himself that he and Shu Yuan would only talk about money, not feelings, and there must be absolutely no physical contact.

But Shu Yuan, who claimed she had no interest in men whatsoever, gradually crossed the line.

At their child’s request, she would kiss him.

When frustrated at work, she would ask for a hug.

Chen Zai’s boundaries were pushed back again and again.

After two glasses of wine, Shu Yuan threw herself into his arms and started nuzzling and burrowing.

Warnings were useless. Dr. Chen had no doubt that his bottom line would be completely breached by her. So he tied her to a chair with an IV tube.

The next day, Shu Yuan looked at the red marks on her wrists, fell into thought, and asked a question.

Having been tormented all night, Chen Zai spoke in a deep voice, “You’re allergic to alcohol.”
