[Cool and beautiful team captain becomes the bottom in a relationship with an ultra-strong and decisive professional gamer]

Rong Yi is the captain and chief tactician of the top team RS, cool and calm but suffering from camera phobia, and no one has ever seen his true face. After leading his team for five years and winning the championship for three years, he is betrayed by his team and left with nowhere to go. At this point, he receives a call from his ex.

His ex is a cold-hearted and popular professional gamer who recently returned from overseas, having won numerous championships. He proposes a simple condition: “Join our team and we can restore our romantic relationship to make work easier.”

Rong Yi: “Okay.”

But wise men do not fall in love, and competitions are more important than anything.

On the first day Rong Yi leaves his old team, his former teammates celebrate his departure, while the entire internet is filled with criticism. On the second day, netizens are silenced as they witness Rong Yi as the new team captain, completely dominating the game. On the third day, the media chases after him, but a low-key senior protects him, covering his face and revealing only a small, exquisitely white chin. The internet explodes with excitement.

On and on the days go.

Rong Yi’s former teammates are driven to the brink of collapse, asking with red eyes: “Captain, can you still come back?”

“I’m sorry,” Rong Yi replies gently. “I’m their captain now.”

Everyone knows that Rong Yi is the treasure of the entire VIT team, especially for the cold and reserved senior who shields him from everything and favors him to an infuriating degree.

No one knows that this team was built for Rong Yi.

From the moment Xiao Yin first saw this dusty gem, he wanted to wipe away the dust and protect Rong Yi’s brilliance. For five years, he has done just that.

Dropped it because I couldn't stand the translations, it is essentially mtl. If I wanted an mtl I would've gone to google translate it myself. To mtl translators, please either edit it for readability or just don't bother translating and hogging novels from actual good translators. The story itself has potential but the shoddy translation is near impossible for me to understand so I am unfortunately dropping this novel.

[EDIT]:

The previous above review was written about wanderer translations. I just finished reading the translation by hoxionia and it was leagues... more>> better than wanderer translations. Now I can finally confirm that the plot is good, I loved how the MC was finally able to shine after leaving his horrible ex team <<less

In Gen-Z slang, this book wasn't giving and the romance wasn't romancing.

I was incredibly bored. Jeez, I kept scrolling and scrolling just to power-read through. The romance was mediocre and average. It was just too bad. I saw no sugar. There wasn't even closure to their past before restarting the relationship. Also, Rong Yi's character kept flunctuating - one minute he is shy, the other he is bold. The amount of times he blushed is enough to keep him permanently red. Author also made sure we knew they're colorist. Rong... more>> Yi's milk-white and super duper pale skin was frequently mentioned. Yeah, we know, please give it a rest and stop mentioning it. Did I mention that this was really boring?

The translator is good tho. So, one star added for that. <<less

Don't be fooled by the low rating, it's actually really good so far!

If you're okay with basically MTL, + some inconsistenties, I highly recommend it this novel!

⭐ Dog food review:

... more>> [spoiler=dog food] Both MC and ML are still in their awkward stages and they scatter dog food so nicely! Balanced diet is a must in this household it seems 🙈 I'm looking forward to reading more.[/spoiler]

⭐ My impressions so far (c43) :

[spoiler=impressions]I'm loving so far how everyone is so protective and understanding of MC. And bonus points to the fact that it's exes to lovers which I love!!

MC and ML doesn't take sh*t, doesn't give sh*t, they tease, they're pretty open and they are fond of each other! Gosh I'm blushing rn even and I haven't even finished it yet. [/Spoiler] <<less

I haven't finished the novel yet, but I really like it. The MC is really calm and gentle, the side characters are also good so I approve 👍👍. The MC and ML are also good so far.

I also like the fact that even though the MC is lacking popularity in public's eye, the people in the actual community (players and agents) respect him and even wants him on their team.

Overall I really like the MC and the ml, so it's a must read.

So happy I gave this a chance despite the ratings and the reviews.

I was so surprised with how much I enjoyed this. Yes, the translations aren't the greatest but it's honestly overall pretty readable. I've had worse honestly lol. I do hope this gets a bit more cleanup and editing to truly give it justice.

I loved the MC, and I wish we got to know more about the past, but I think it was most likely lost in translation, since we do get hints but no outright discussion about it.

Loved... more>> the ML and the side characters.

It's not super long and I think the length is just right. It's not perfect, but I'm still pretty happy I got to read it. <<less

Not gonna rate because I didn’t get too far into it. The concept is good, I do love doting MLs. He literally tailored everything from food to the home to the team just to bring out the best and treat MC well. I really want to know if the MC phobia to cameras is solely bc of the scandal that happened with ML or if there was something else. Also how did ML decide to do all that considering the misunderstanding that happened. It’s just a shame that the translation... more>> is rough, edited MTL, I just can’t enjoy it and get confused. Sometimes it’s minor like wrong pronoun other times it’s using the wrong name so you get confused who’s actually doing what. Or the translation will change names for the same thing. It’s not very helpful in the long run. <<less

The story should have good and fun but because of bad translation the story became bland and confusing at times. It felt more like it was MTLed and then just edited a bit. The gaming part wasn't as fun or interesting as other similar novels. The translator keeps getting confused in pronouns of the speaker and there are times when the names get mixed up or replaced. The game character and strategy seems all over the place. So there is no consistency on how a character behaves or reacts. Other... more>> translations on the website is better so I think this was just done by either a new translator or an inexperienced translator. <<less

So I had to post a review because this story is underated. Just give it chance before you turn it down, it might not be your cup of tea but I think that the author delivered what they intended and it was a beautiful world to be immersed in.

Lovely, that's all I can say. I'm glad I ignored the reviews. Rong Yi and Xiao Yan will remain a cherished part of my memory... thank you author.

Plot: 9/10 the eSports side is engaging and I didn't get bored reading the matches... more>> despite never playing MOBA games.

Romance: 9/10 chef's kiss to my two little angels. Big Boss Yi is domineering and caring to his Easy.

Side Characters: 9/10 I loved my VIT babies and will surely miss them. Lin Yin is a good friend. I love XY's family they're are adorable and realistic, unlike Easy's parents (they are tr*sh in every sense of the word, apart from Easy's grandmother).

Read this if you want a semi-fluffy and realistic story with characters who stick together from the start of the story (small misunderstandings in their past but it's never truly used as a measure of the present - if anything, it just makes Xiao Yin love Rong Yi deeper and better). There isn't too much conflicts to resolve. <<less

first time coming back to reading translated BL instead of MTL since a long time. This was a good one to come back to.

yet another esports BL, but a wholesome one. We got the common trope of the MC and ML both being powerful but estranged for years, each dominating in a different region. We got the classic trope of the MC being kicked out of his original team, literally TKA style. The ML ends up bringing a complete team over just to take him in, unbeknownst to the MC.... more>> Felt like the MC kept the ML at an appropriate distance at the beginning, it's impossible to just easily come back together after five years of separation, and not a friendly one at that. Misunderstandings about the "contract relationship" are cleared up early on thanks to the ML's confession, and the two of them don't shy away from having s*x, even though there are no explicit descriptions.

a little strange that the author decided to add the world championships as an epilogue, but may be because they didn't want to write it out in too much detail. Author also manages to address MC's trauma in just a couple epilogue chapters, but I'm not too entangled in that so it's fine. MC and ML both managed to deal with their family matters and the story ends on a good note. Not sure exactly how good the gameplay itself is written, I mostly skimmed that part due to not being a MOBA fan. The romance itself is very sweet though, plenty of dog food to be found. <<less

It was fine, ML is the most OP.

I think the author forgot about the whole setup

Spoiler

why the MC and ML broke up 5 years ago, and what misunderstanding they actually went through

[collapse]

because it's really rarely ever mentioned again and only vaguely referred to in passing. And the way the misunderstanding was resolved was pretty anti-climactic. In fact, there was an additional misunderstanding

Spoiler

of the MC thinking the ML didn't really like him that much, or wasn't actually gay, and they were just together for convenience of building a team.

Now, usually, with that setup, the angst is precious, and the author would at least spend 1-2 lines to explain why the MC thought that way when they had dated and broke up. But nope, a few vague confessions from the ML and things are just water under the bridge.

[collapse]

Normally I do like less explicit statements or summaries of the plot, but I think this lacked a lot of crucial details that would have made the relationship development more engaging.

Additionally, the way the camera avoidance (probably inspired from King's Avatar) was described was a bit inconsistent as well...

Spoiler

for example, MC enters video-call with ML at one point when they were visiting family during holidays and he wasn't uncomfortable at all? wild/weird especially since MC tapes up his phone camera

[collapse]

Spoiler

Another example, MC making a speech at a esports event, he stands up and addresses the crowd, and the camera-men/people get translated as "mosaic" - also doesn't make sense because MC is afraid of the lens (doesn't matter if the camera is disconnected) and mosaic'ing him/his identity wouldn't solve his innate fear. Plus, I find it absolutely absurd that in a venue with 100k people or who knows how many, that nobody pointed their phone cameras at the MC??

[collapse]

Spoiler

also mixed feelings about the MC/ML doing exposure therapy on MC's camera phobia and turning it into a kink/s*x thing. Not knocking it but... it apparently was the only thing that worked and actual therapy didn't work lol...

[collapse]

Otherwise, the translation was very spotty. It really needed an editor. Felt like MTL, tons of unedited or mistaken pronouns (MC being referred to as "she/her" constantly) and the different characters (eg. Ci She -> Thorn Snake, no no no).

Finally, as other people have mentioned, there tons of really good esports novels out there... this one really felt a bit flat or as a King's Avatar fanfic/spinoff type feeling.

I did enjoy the reading LoL/League esports parts... sadly the plays were hard to follow because the author definitely took some creative license with the champions skills and names. <<less

AAAAAA I finished within 4 days of reading! Personally, this book is a 4 star. It was a good light read.

From the characters:

Rong Yi, Xiao Yin, Wudao Gu, Viper, Grey Cat, (honorable mention: Lin Yi!) they all had a good relationship 🥺 VIT Members were, in every possible way, what RS wasn't. They were all very understanding of ... more>>
Spoiler

Rong Yi's cameraphobia

[collapse]
and I always enjoyed their banters.

It was so nice to see their respect for Rong Yi. And also everytime Viper would rebel against Xiao Yin. I thought Viper and Grey Cat would be a side couple, considering a few of their antics, but it's okay!

Rong Yi was portrayed as this smart MC, kicked out by RS after he was used. He has some cool moments. His interactions with Xiao Yin was sweet, funny, and had me laughing sometimes. And how the other VIT members would take advantage of Xiao Yin's feelings for Rong Yi to get some benefits was really funny too.

In a way, they're really like family.

As for RS' downfall, it was satisfying to see. Though it wasn't much, only a realization that Rong Yi was their team's anchor and that they had wasted him. But still really nice. They got what they deserved. Though, I really hoped there was a bit more closure.

I like how VIT members aren't portrayed as this OP, unbeatable team. Just that they are continuously trying to improve and are growing. For example, when
Spoiler

Viper became the "weakness" of VIT team during that match with CH, or Support Grey Cat still trying to grasp mechanics and the game better

[collapse]
. How they dealt with the problems they faced, it was really sweet and nice. But for the main couple, they were just portrayed as the best of the best. Eh. Not much to say about that!

Wudao Gu, hmm, can't say much about him. But he's like the serious person in the trio (Grey Cat, Viper, and Wudao Gu). It's funny to see Grey Cat and Viper act carelessly and be childish while Wudao Gu just maintains his front. He's sometimes the mediator of the two.

For Xiao Yin and Rong Yi's relationship, I didn't really get to see the starting point of it, or when exactly was the realizations of feelings or rekindling, considering
Spoiler

that they agreed beforehand to be a couple again for the benefits of it, not because of love

[collapse]
so there's not much to say.

I didn't truly get what happened five years ago, and what Green's words were. Is it just me, or some parts were hard to understand, despite being written in an understandable grammar?

Docked off one point since I really did not get the e-sports terms here. There was no notes for guidance, and I had to search the internet what certain terms mean.

And even so, they would not provide a clear answer. So I was kind of just, reading through the tournaments and competitions like a fish. Whenever the crowd cheered, I would just go along with it. I guess you'd need to have a bit of knowledge about esports before playing? Like, read other esports novels first to familiarize yourself with the events going on with the tournament.

It was a good and satisfying read. But then again, I didn't really see much closure regarding Rong Yi and RS. I was annoyed at the fact that Rong Yi also didn't get to resolve the problem with his family much, just that he
Spoiler

got disowned and just accepted it.

[collapse]
. I really wanted to see some form of justice.

And for Wudao Gu, Viper, and Grey Cat, I was disappointed that they weren't at the end of the story and just disappeared, like the author just ditched them to focus on Rong Yi and Xiao Yin's relationship. I was hoping to see a post-match celebration, of the five getting more close and being domestic. Oh, and I also wanted to see more of Chips! I was disappointed to see that he was just there to be an extra. But hey, he seems to get along well with Viper, Grey Cat, and Wudao Gu! I guess in the future, when Rong Yi and Xiao Yin retires, they will be the new gen to take over :) I like to think of it that way.

That's it! I like this novel. Though there may be a few parts that could be skipped, it was enjoyable. I'm just hoping to see that the author expanded on their relationship as a team, with Chip, and how they handled everything post match. But having a happy ending with the main couple engaged is enough. Xiao Yin and Rong Yi are a very active couple as well, engaging in intimate activities a lot LOL. It's nice to see that they're both willing! <<less

B-tier (3.0 star point)

When I read this novel, I feel the deja-vu, like I've read this before. In the middle, I realize that it had the same vibe with another e-sport novel that I like, though that one has better characterisation, and in some ways, better plot.

This novel is not that bad. It warranted the B-tier. It's the usual e-sport story with the main characters, Rong Yi and Xiao Yin, to be the most powerful couple in the existence of MOBA, at least in this story. Rong Yi can... more>> even make 100% accurate prediction on how the enemies will move, which is beyond amazing to me. I didn't watch MOBA often, but I feel like making 100% accurate prediction all the time was a little bit over the top. This skill was also not really being explored in the end. It's just mentioned here and there, to make Rong Yi so powerful. The fact that he picked all the best people in the e-sports with 100% accuracy a little bit overdone, but I guess the author need to establish that Rong Yi is awesome. That, to me, is what kills my excitement towards the character.

The area that I think is a bit overdone:

1. Rong Yi is too powerful. No one can come close to him. Xiao Yin is a close second, with him being the God in the entire league, including the international team, and also the person who can create AI system as well as powerful businessman. Plus, he's also so rich no one else can counter him. By this point, I've given up on the characterisation. It's more about the race of who is going to be more awesome than the one before.

2. In the beginning, we were told that Rong Yi was afraid of camera. When we learned about the reason behind this trauma and fear, I actually think it was awesome. At least, there's a background to it. But of course, this was resolved in just 1 chapter, and it's during the extra not the main story, and it's not even with the help of specialist. Sure, let's just use the boyfriend method filming me everyday, even while having couple activities, to counter the trauma. I can't believe the author think this will work. Maybe that's why this is put in the extra instead of main story? But when Rong Yi suddenly appear in the main story with no problems facing the camera, it actually got me baffled. I thought I miss some chapters.

3. The past between Rong Yi and Xiao Yin not really being explained clearly. What happened back then? They got separated because of rumor? Is it because they have disagreement? Is there any problems with Xiao Yin's family? It feels like this part is not clear and leave more questions than answer. Did the author forget about this, thinking they have explained it? Or the author just trying to be tricky and let us think what actually happen? I won't know the answer, but what I know is that I'm not happy about it.

I would not say it's bad, but it's not what I would recommend to others as well. Might as well read better novel. <<less

The translation by Hoxionia is good, except for the usual, annoying problem of constant gender flipping (calling characters 'he' one moment and 'she' the next, referring to male characters by female-specific descriptors). The story is okay, it's just a bit bland due to the theme being overused - two gamers teaming up, dominating the game, and winning everything. The personal interactions in this are a bit more spicy (detailed) than most of its ilk.

Trutfhfully average. The game is based on LoL, story is smooth-sailing just because MC and ML are both too OP. ML is kinda weird at the start. He was so cold, and no one can guess his toughts. However, he gradually opens up and become shameless.

Firstly, I hope you'd consider reading this book without taking the other comments about translation into consideration. Sure it may be beginner level english but it's still understandable.

Secondly, oh myyyy goshhhh!!! This book had me on a tight grip, I loved it from the start to the end. It doesn't just revolve around the 2 characters but the author also mentions the esports so well! Really enjoyed it.

"𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑎𝑙𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑏𝑒 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑎𝑙𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑎 𝑏𝑟𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔"

Honestly the plot was bland and the e-sports aspect was pretty awful, I used to play a lot of MOBA's so following what's happening in e-sports novels generally aren't hard for me as they are usually based off of popular MOBA's or LoL, I think this one was based of LoL as I saw the names of some champions appearing of LoL appearing 2-3 times but then again it's really confusing because the translator seems... more>> to keep changing the names of champions AND characters randomly for some unknown reasons. The translator also seems to frequently get pronouns mixed up and sometimes they also put the characters names in the wrong place (?) e.g. When Rong Yi was talking to Xiao Yan, the translator would replace Xiao Yan's name with Rong Yi and it would seem like he was talking to himself

The whole misunderstanding where the MC and ML are separated for 5 (?) years wasn't really explained properly, in a couple of instances, the MC's camera phobia magically disappeared and the MC also went OOC in some occasions.

Anyways, it was still a decent read as long as I switched off my brain. I managed to finish this in 2 days whilst balancing (ditching) my school work so it's a pretty addicting read, but then again, I probably just read this to procrastinate, lol. <<less

I enjoyed it overall (It's more like a 3.5 to 3.6 to me but I won't be stingy with round-offs). The translation isn't perfect and there were a lot of times I was confused about who was being referred to so had to backtrack or accept as is, but otherwise, it was generally easy to understand. The characters are very lovable and I adore the main couple very much—Rong Yi (MC) is impossible not to love and Xiao Yin (ML) is the best at doting on him.

I would personally say... more>> that this read is quite a... fast read? It feels like a fast read. There are many portions where the gameplay feels in-depth but more times where it feels like it's just being run through. It's definitely not on the same gameplay depth as other esports danmei like ICDI, Glory, FOG, etc. but it also doesn't always skip over it entirely. I personally feel like if the chapters were more spaced out and the pacing was a little slower, we would have been able to enjoy it more. I still have minor questions about some aspects of the story that I don't think was elaborated on or explored as much—but considering that I think that the intention was to go for an easygoing short novel, I guess it's acceptable to not do so. As it is, I did enjoy the novel and would recommend that others give it a try. <<less
