Hua Yan was the holy maiden of a demonic sect, commonly known as a demoness.

Due to the notorious deeds of her predecessors, she had already gained a bad reputation before even stepping out of her home.

Heaven knows, she is a good person!

Now, she was staying beside Lu Chengsha, the so-called strongest force in the righteous path in the last hundred years, known in the demonic sect as the “Human Killing God.” She was constantly worried that her identity would be exposed, leading to her being torn to pieces by this sworn enemy.

However, she didn’t want to leave at all.

Lu Chengsha drew his sword, expressionless, and said, “I will protect you and kill all the people of the demonic sect.”

Demoness Hua Yan: “…Thank you.”〒▽〒

————

Hua Yan was a demoness who grew up in an environment full of love, with affectionate parents, childhood friends, and a loving upbringing.

Lu Chengsha was the complete opposite.

He had no emotions, no hobbies, no friends.

Raised as a weapon.

But in Hua Yan’s eyes, he was the ideal human, full of righteousness, a perfect hero.

—”I have a lot of love, and I’m willing to share some with you.”

OH MY GOD. I’m absolutely in love with this novel!!!

Maybe it’s because I haven’t read something this cute and fluffy in a while, but wow my heart feels healed.

This gave me the same vibes as Ascending, Do Not Disturb, which I’ve reread at least five times and adore. Even though the characters, plot, and setting are completely different, the essence is remarkably similar.

I LOVE the female lead. She’s adorably naive, delightfully delulu, and obsessed with martial heroes—despite being from the demon sect herself. She’s been fiercely protected and deeply loved... more>> since birth, which makes her gentle and sheltered, but never s*upid or weak. She struggles between the “righteous path” her heart wishes to follow and the demon sects core values, yet she’s capable of forming her own judgments. That balance between wide-eyed innocence and these sudden flashes of startling clarity is what truly captivated me.

The first meeting between the FL and ML is perfection—setting the stage for her to fall head-over-heels for her ideal martial hero: Lu Changsha. The man who upholds justice with the execution blade of the righteous path... and also speaks like he charges for every word.

Seriously. If you compiled all of his dialogue from the entire novel, you’d barely have two chapters. He doesn’t speak unless absolutely necessary, and even then, he trims the sentence down to one word if he can help it. (Later on he loosens up and becomes relatively more talkative—which means he starts using more than 3 words in a sentence lmfao)

Sometimes he feels like a zombie trying to reintegrate into the human world as he learns how to speak again, and understand his own emotions and feelings. And while his emotional shutdown has tragic reasons, he doesn’t dwell on them. He’s got such a good temperament underneath it all. Despite his stubbornness, he’s utterly lovable—a cutie patootie, if you will. Even the author couldn’t bring themselves to bully him too much (except in the extras, where Xie Yingxian’s chaotic AU ideas wreak hilarious havoc).

Speaking of Xie Yingxian—I love him and his two maids so much. They’re all adorable and wholesome. XY and Hua Yan are so Sang Zhi and Sang Yan-coded—strong familial feelings hidden underneath banter and loyalty.
Spoiler

That scene where HY’s identity is exposed and he takes her to run away? Iconic. She offers to pose as his sister, and when he mocks her, she’s like, Okay then. I’ll be your daughter. I died

[collapse]

XY is the chaotic older brother archetype who causes mayhem but fiercely protects those he cares about.
Spoiler

Like when he finds out about Yu Ye’s betrayal and declares he’ll take revenge—and even jokes about crippling the guy and dragging him back for HY if she liked him.

[collapse]
And don’t even get me started on the bad advice he gives the FL to handle the ML. He’s just... ridiculous, in the best way. While we don’t go too deep into his backstory, it’s clear he’s not just the carefree sect leader. He’s got burdens. But he’s too cool to act like they bother him but handles everything by himself. Another certified cutie.

Back to the main couple: I swear I’d read 200 more chapters of their story if I could. But the novel’s length and flow are honestly impeccable. The author clearly cared about pacing and reader experience, keeping it tight and mostly from the FL’s POV. We only get occasional peeks into the ML’s thoughts—but that fits, since he’s been shaped to be an emotionless “weapon.” The more righteous and self-controlled he appears, the deeper he falls. And that contrast is just chef’s kiss.
Spoiler

I was lowkey disappointed that the 'bad' advices that XY gave HY weren't heeded (which is good in a way, it showed how HY herself was unwilling to choose a short cut method to get back with LC fast and decided to go the long way, the 'righteous' way to solve every issue, be it her sect's or be it LC's) BUT, the author really REALLY spoiled us with different AU and how it would have played out, its sooo fun!

[collapse]

The ML’s tragic upbringing, so rigid and suffocating, makes his tenderness all the more precious. He melts under the FL’s warmth.
Spoiler

She meets him right after she’s left her sect, when she’s still naive, and full of blind admiration for justice. Her genuine curiosity and lack of ego break through his walls. He lets his guard down because she seems harmless—a sweet girl, no martial skills, being chased by “demons” (which is technically true, lol)

It’s hilarious how he thinks he’s poisoned when he starts feeling things. Shoutout to the poor Ming doctor who suffers through diagnosing their “symptoms, ” only to realize it’s just... lovesickness. Without him, our emotionally clueless leads might’ve taken years to even understand their feelings. (FL is theoretically 'experienced' in every way except that she's never experienced that so she's clueless LOL.)

[collapse]

The ML’s journey is fascinating his struggle between his sect (well his grandfather) and his love for the FL, his iron resolve to never turn his back on righteousness
Spoiler

which has been the only thing ingrained in his bones since he could remember along with a strong hatred towards the demonic practicians, so when the old man does what he does to 'protect' his grandson, LC is broken, he finds himself without a specific path to follow, he cannot be with HY anymore, yet he cannot leave her so he protects her, being s*upid to a fault saying as long as he doesn't see her it's fine, but would radiate his siberian chilly wind towards anyone who tries to get close to her, would be jealous with someone even looking at HY, would be hurt and disappointed when she would tell him she won't like him anymore, would loose his composure even with just their fingers brushing past, ah the yearning.. BUT HE STILL WONT BE TOGETHER *FLIPS TABLE* WDYM WHY R U SO FRUSTRATING LC ?! just kidding, I get it. They make it work. He doesn't force her to his path and neither does she, they figure out a way to accommodate each other, no compromise.

[collapse]
He’s rigid, loyal, principled to a fault—but also head over heels. His love is quiet, but intense. He cares for her through action, not words. He’ll protect her, yearn for her, but never wrong her. And that devotion Ugh. I’m obsessed.

And FL matches that energy perfectly. She longs for him just as deeply. She teases him, but never pushes. She even villainizes herself to protect his reputation. She steps back when needed, works hard to win over his elders even though she can’t stand them all so they can be together openly and rightfully.

ML may be hopeless at emotional navigation (poor guy was trained only to fight), but FL with XY’s help—takes care of the rest. She wants a future where their sects are redeemed, their names cleared, and yes, where she can marry him. And he follows her loyally through every step. They’re just... too cute.
Spoiler

It's so funny that even with the existence of Yu Ye, LC probably considers XY as his biggest rival lmfao, while XY would push all his buttons for fun XD tsk, LC even fought him for trying to touch HY's pregnant belly like bro he gonna be the uncle of those kids (hehe I'm spoiling you with a major plot point)

I rambled too long... but honestly, I still want to say more. I love this novel SO MUCH.

If you like emotionally reserved MLs who fall hard, adorable but capable FLs, found family, chaotic siblings, subtle angst, and fluff that wraps around your heart like a warm blanket—read this. <<less

Review from the translator:

Some books take themselves seriously; others toss in a scholar father, a Demoness mother, and a Holy Maiden with a penchant for accidental chaos. A Flower Blooms, A Hundred Flowers Wither is the latter, and it’s all the better for it. Equal parts satire, martial arts drama, and heartfelt character study, this story strikes a balance between laugh-out-loud humor and surprisingly poignant moments.

Meet Hua Yan, our reluctant Demoness Holy Maiden, whose moral compass is firmly stuck somewhere between her righteous scholar father and her terrifyingly dramatic... more>> Demoness mother. With a legacy to uphold and a conscience that refuses to cooperate, Hua Yan finds herself in the center of chaotic schemes, righteous misunderstandings, and her own identity crisis.

Enter Lu Chengsha, the “Human Killing God, ” a righteous swordsman so skilled and so terrifying that even hardened demons quake in their boots. The problem? He’s also ridiculously handsome, and his moral rigidity clashes hilariously with Hua Yan’s chaotic (but well-meaning) attempts to survive their encounters.

Plot Analysis:

The novel is as much a comedy of errors as it is a martial arts saga. From the moment Hua Yan “rescues” a self-righteous disciple who promptly accuses her of nefarious intentions, the story barrels through an array of misunderstandings, sect politics, and Hua Yan’s attempts to juggle her dual nature. The story thrives on the tension between Hua Yan’s Demon Sect upbringing and her genuine desire to do good. When she first hears of Lu Chengsha, she’s intrigued by his legendary reputation. But their eventual face-to-face meetings are anything but typical romance fare.

While the overarching plot about inter-sect rivalries and Hua Yan’s struggle with her identity adds depth, the episodic nature of her misadventures keeps the pace lively.

Character Analysis:

  • Hua Yan: A walking contradiction, Hua Yan’s charm lies in her effort to reconcile her upbringing with her personal beliefs. Her attempts to be a good person often result in even greater chaos, making her a relatable and lovable protagonist.
  • Lu Chengsha: He’s a walking paradox: stoic, moral, and utterly lethal. Yet his interactions with Hua Yan reveal glimpses of vulnerability and unexpected humor. Watching his cold exterior soften around her is one of the story’s greatest delights.
Themes:

At its core, this novel explores identity, morality, and the complexity of human relationships. Hua Yan and Lu Chengsha represent opposing worlds—demonic chaos versus righteous discipline—but their growing connection suggests that people are more than the labels society imposes on them.

Emotional Impact:

This book will have you laughing one moment and holding your breath the next. Hua Yan’s attempts to navigate her role as a Demoness while falling for the one person who might actually kill her deliver plenty of emotional punches. The romance is a slow burn, but it’s worth every moment.

Final Thoughts:

A Flower Blooms, A Hundred Flowers Wither is a delightful blend of humor, romance, and martial arts intrigue. Hua Yan’s spirited charm pairs perfectly with Lu Chengsha’s unyielding intensity, creating a romance that feels as inevitable as it is unpredictable. Whether you’re here for the laughs, the action, or the slow-burn love story, this novel delivers on every front. Highly recommended for anyone who loves their romances laced with danger and their Demonesses just a little bit chaotic. <<less
