While still a bit too early to really tell, I find that I'm enjoying this so far.

From what little I have already read it seems like a lite anf fluffy story with potential to be a rather fun read.

I am looking forward to further updates.

I intended to read this multiple times but I always ended up skipping it because of a review that brought up a number of character red flags that I tend to avoid. I usually don't base my decision to read something on a review, and I generally tend to take all reviews with a grain of salt, but there are certain red flag behaviors that I'm wary of in stories.

I finally decided to pick this up, and I'm glad I did. It's nothing groudbreaking, amazing, or creative, but it does... more>> what it sets out to do in a funny and adorable way.

Do I have some complaints? Sure I do, but they're not enough to completely turn me off from the story. I'll go over them after I address the "red flags" that kept me from initially reading this....

First, the ML is not a lying and manipulative character. Actually, for the entire story, he doesn't lie. First because he can't talk and Shu Shu can't read, later because he omits some information because he's afraid it will scare Shu Shu (but incredibly quickly he tells him the truth), and finally he doesn't actually realize how freespirited and totally ignorant of the world Shu Shu is. There isn't a moment that I read where I felt like Edgar was manipulating, deliberately lying to, or intentionally tricking Shu Shu.

So lets go through the points I read.

  1. Shu Shu is not afraid of everything, he's actually afraid of snakes specifically, and he has a natural prey response to predators. A response which has been honed over hundreds of years as a small, weak animal that is often preyed upon. His fear of snakes specifically comes from his many encounters with them as his worst predator, over his hundreds of years of life. This results in some PTSD, and also is part of the humor of the interactions between Shu Shu and Edgar. Also, he starts working hard to overcome this fear very early in the story. Shu Shu actually does a decent job of fighting off some people in the later parts of the story.
  2. I've already gone over this point, but the ML (Edgar) didn't actually lie, he omitted some details or he made assumptions about Shu Shu's knowledge after helping educate him with videos and books. He also told the truth very quickly at certain times when he realized what was going on.
  3. I kinda agree that sending Shu Shu to a "bridal class" was a bit demeaning, but Edgar does so for a few reasons, not because he wants Shu Shu to "take care of his man". The actual name of the class is the "Skills Class" with the nickname being the bridal class. And Edgar sends Shu Shu there because Shu Shu barely has a kindergartners education and sending him to kindergarten would be even worse than sending him to the Skills Class. He hopes that Shu Shu can freely learn whatever he wants without being looked down on. At no point does Edgar ever try to block Shu Shu from doing what he wants so he can "take care of his man". And the story makes it a point to tell you that the people who are in the Skills class are all there voluntarily while there's still a large part of the school dedicated to teaching Sub-beastman anything they want to learn.... sooo... the sexism is a lot better in this story than it usually is in a lot of beastmen stories.
  4. (The reviewer also accidentally labelled this point 3 as well) When Edgar gave Shu Shu his beast bead he did so believing that, after being at least somewhat educated, Shu Shu understood its significance. He did not deliberately withhold this information. He also believed that Shu Shu couldn't get pregnant because he thought Shu Shu was just like other Beastmen. On top of that, it's not like he asked Shu Shu to wear the beast bead openly, tell others he was given the bead, or even ask him to swallow it. No, he just told him to take it and keep it safe... This is a ridiculous thing to accuse Edgar of lying to Shu Shu about.
  5. Edgar has a long discussion with Shu Shu about the significance of his cultivation method and deliberately asks him if he wants to share it to help other beastmen recover their beast cores. I honestly think this reviewer must have just skimmed this entire conversation because otherwise it just looks like they're openly lying about how Edgar behaved here. Edgar isn't even the one that taught this method to people, and he even has Shu Shu claim the entire credit for it later in the story. Another ridiculous thing to accuse the ML of doing. Edgar was actually really worried about Shu Shu's safety if he shared this information, and every step of the way he asked for Shu Shu's consent.
The person who wrote that review that kept me away from the story... has some serious reading comprehension issues. Or maybe some anger issues.

As for the things that were a bit of a demerit for me while reading... It felt like the story was a bit amateurish. A new-ish writer stretching their wings. But it wasn't horrible. It was funny, cute, and weird. The sexism that is usually apparent in a lot of beastmen novels was very toned down here, though still present in some places. There wasn't any of the h*mophobia either. Shu Shu is kinda k*nky too, once he realizes he's fine with being with a man, lol.

Just read it if you want, you might find you enjoy it. <<less

This is a Shu Shu defence post. Everyone is like he’s s*upid and can’t do anything but for a hamster he’s doing pretty great! Imagine if someone told you to envision that you’re gonna live for 5000 years? Pretty hard to comprehend right? Someone told you that you’d have to do this task for this many years and there’s still no guarantee of success? Hamsters live for what, a year? Shu Shu was so diligent that he cultivated for 200x of his average lifespan. Whatever he’s achieved, he did it... more>> because he was hardworking. That the author had a raging hard on for the ML does NOT diminish what Shu Shu accomplished. I say, he was doing pretty well. Better than most would’ve in his place. <<less

10/10 recommend. Absolutely nothing bad to say about the world building and the character development. It's very common to think that the MC is cringe or the plot gets repetitive when it comes to the oblivious MC trope but this novel did it perfectly to the point where I think the MC is absolutely adorable and might be even more likeable than the ML! Also, I'm the type to notice glaring plot holes and quite frankly, I don't think there are any.

If you like fluffy novels with dense MC and... more>> a sweet, overprotective ML, you will definitely enjoy this novel, <<less

This is a great read for those that want something light and fluffy. There are intense moments in the novel, but the conflicts weren't something you had to think too deeply about. It's like tubing down on a lazy river, just let the story flow and enjoy the ride.

MC in a few words is cute. Most of his misunderstandings stem from his experience as a hamster so a lot of his thoughts makes sense and his character is very much consistent as he grows and gets used to being human.... more>> Biggest selling point of his character I think is his ability to be straightforward. MC does not beat around the bush. There are sometimes where he wants to hide something, but it eventually comes out because he's just an honest person.

I feel like with the beastman genre, I do have to say there is no smut for those looking for it. It's mentioned but it leaves it to the viewer imagination by telling how the overall experience was. It was used more as a tool to help drive the story and it showed on how the author cared for their story.

Two words.

F*cking! Awesome!

I originally just wanted to check out the first chapter and then come back to read this later, as a result I was literally hooked from the first chapter, I could not put the book down!

I just fell in love with Shu Shu (MC) and Edgar (ML)

I loved the world-building.

No unnecessary drama, no angst, no misunderstandings. This book just leaves a sweet aftertaste leaving you wanting more

This is a really cute story with good story progression. And it doesnt focus too much on politics, governing, or management so it's an easy read.

They got great supporting characters and world building.

I gave it 4 stars cause the main character gets a little one-dimensional (flat) near the end of the story.

The MC is just too cute. A bit dense but still adorable.

I don't see why people judge him for fearing snakes since he's a rodent and snakes are his natural enemy. That's literally an instinct written into his genetic code.

Despite all that he still loves his partner and kids and I find that incredibly brave of him.

10/5 AHHHH I can't believe I haven't rated this yet! Shushu, I love you a lot!

This novel is worth reading. There is no part that will make you feel bored.

Full of fluff and comedy part. It's a real masterpiece. Even the 29 extra's are worth reading. I specially liked Gary's extras.

... more>> Shushu's antics are all funny. I liked the way he and Edgar met. Their interactions, his fear of snakes but still tryna conquer it. The way he thinks. And etc.

I also love the fact that Edgar really really love Shushu. There is no dogblood drama. Just pure happiness which is really great.

Highly Recommended!

The translation was great and easy to understand.

Shushu gives me a feeling of an original Mary Sue heroine (hero) that becomes the villain in a reincarnated to a villainess story.

It's really slice of life without much conflict.

... more>> My main problem is probably on Shushu's never actually getting over his fear of snakes and how he treats Edgar and his son in snake form.

Sure, he loves him but it gives me the feeling that he never cares about Edgar's feelings. He also gives me the thought that he doesn't want to use his brain at all. I guess I just don't like silly, white, sweet characters.

I also don't like the discrimination towards baby beastmen.

Also,

Spoiler

In the end, no story on the red bead and Synthia dissappears.

This is actually very good. I'm really glad I didn't skip this novel when I saw 1 star review. (˘・_・˘) ;

The story is light hearted and full of fluffiness~ There is no relationship angst, and the MC is super adorable. Meanwhile, the ML is very caring and nice. I really like their interactions in the early stage, when ML was still in a snake form. They're so pure and adorable! (*˘︶˘*).。*❤️ I wish the author could prolong this period of time instead of rushing to the next part, ... more>>

when Edgar return to his human form.

but well, it's what it is. Our little hamster is very kind though. Although he was scared to death by the ML, he still helped him handling his wound and pet him. This kid is just too adorable! And the ML is also the sweetest! As an animal lover, my heart is so soft for them.

[collapse]
The later part is okay. It's still sweet and amusing, and it entertained me for some good period of times. It's just that, seeing them taking a mary sue path, I could not help but get bored and disinterested after reading it for a while. However, this is my problem, not the author's or the story's.

I hope people who come across this novel in the future will atleast give it a try before judging it. Although I can't say this story is remarkable, It's still enjoyable and is written very well. I enjoyed it a lot! <<less

Ah I love fluffy stories...

Just suitable for light reading, plot is not heavy, chapter is not long (I read it in my free time, finished in 3 days)

Spoiler

Shu Shu is naive, simple-minded, silly and just adorable. Has admirable perseverance to cultivate for hundreds of years, from little hamster given awareness, until he's able to shift into a human. Even though he knows that his innate ability to cultivate is not great to begin with. Although he is a bit cowardly to many things, it's just natural because he is a prey animal at the beginning. Old instinct can't just disappear over night after all.

OP gong is very lucky to meet Shu Shu who teach him cultivation and became immortal. Edgar is so whipped for his little wife.

Even though it's not stated what level is Shu Shu's cultivation, he's very strong, though of course not as strong as Edgar who has mythical beast ancestry in his blood. Shu Shu is def strong enough to slap some high level beastmen. But if he met his natural enemy (predator-type beastmen) he'd rather run away lol.

I really like the extras too, especially Shu Shu's second child's side story. His plot has more exciting face-slapping moments that greatly please me 😆

The novel image cover is cute and well deserved.

It may get hard to getting into it at first because MC is too scared of ML but with time he got over it more or less.

This MC is god tier when it come to cuteness~ and ML love toward MC is really cute too.

When MC getting flustered he could just pretending to be dead as hamster. <<less

My mood had been down for quite a while and I really needed this novel. It had been on my reading list for quite a while because I've never read a novel with such a genre. Even after I've finished reading this novel I still don't know what mech means 😅😅. It was mentioned quite a lot. But glad I read, the relationship between shu shu and Edgar was really heartwarming. And the whole story was really light-hearted and fluffy.

Even the extras are so good. I usually don't like extras... more>> with sub-characters. But, the extras made me crave more and more. The children grew up so much 🤧🤧. All in all, if you want to read a light-hearted novel with cute characters and extra fluff this is the best choice. 😊😊😊 <<less

This was such a lovable story!

I'll be honest, I was half expecting (maybe expecting :3) Old bias dad, Evil step mother, Illegitimate/Half/step brothers who will fight for property, positions and sort, Final-boss Duke, Beautiful, Multi-talented sub beast duke's daughter, Zerg fight and the ML as a marshal.

It's honesty those nowadays.

What I was not expecting was: Supporting father, Loving, commoner mother, No fight for the throne, No final boss but a enjoyable stable journey of their life and time together, A love rival who doesn't use tricks and tries to win... more>> the ML heart fair and square, No major war, continuing the story of their childrens and a crown prince to emperor and now retired emperor.

Everything is just so cute and there's no dog blood. It's the type of story you read in your spare time. Definitely 5/5 but I won't go into detail :) <<less

As everyone has rated, it's a 5/5! This is a light read, if you're feeling stressed from those heavy plots or just need a laugh to pass your time, this is a good one. Though, if I have to nitpick, it's a little silly (silly as in the plot doesn't really makes sense at points as things seem to be solved in such a simple matter when it's actually a big problem, however I actually prefer it this way! It's a good stress reliever) I binged read this series, and... more>> it's actually my first/second interstellar kind of BL, the other one is the merchant one, which I didn't complete, I digress. 5/5*

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This story was surprisingly good. I only thought the first 15 chapters were not that interesting when cp met and had to survive.

... more>> WHAT I REALLY LIKED:

- Beastmen and sub-beastmen (the male carriers that get pregnant) world: I had no idea what to expect but this is a super friendly beast world. The Beast men dotes on the other s*x, respects, protects and cherish them a lot. No agressive, abusive alpha/omega kind of setting

- story has more plot and action than I originally thought. It is much better than the typical light story that has no angst but lots of fluff thanks to the interstellar setting

- Well paced story (sometimes even fast paced) which I appreciate a lot! Both MC/ML are pro active in getting what they want without being too overbearing. I dislike slowburn where cp only share a kiss after 3/4 of the story.

- because of 29 chapters of Extras (and 30-50y in future) this story felt like such a journey, whilst number of chapters still aren't super many

- love MC and ML. They are super sweet!! MC is simple minded and adorable. Thinks very highly of himself but in cute way. Not easily bullied.

- Love the kids!! Love their stories in Extras.

DO EXPECT (you may like it or hate it)....

- typical smooth sailing of whatever MC/ML do. They are super: strong, smart, rich etc. Anything they come up with succeeds easily. Luckily MC's looks are written as normal handsome.

- typical face slapping, netizens (though not as much as in those showbizz stories)

- villains are not super smart and gets face slapped as our protagonists are invincible

- Chinese upbringing: kids are easily thrown to grandparents to be raised, favouritism <<less

In a word, BLAND.

I finished it, but I kinda wish I had given up earlier, there was no great climax just meh. It wasn’t terrible, but it definitely wasn’t good. There was no emotion, everything felt flat. Any character could have died and I wouldn’t have felt anything, and I tend to cry whenever a character dies. There’s also the regular misogyny that always comes with mpreg as well, not the worst I’ve seen, but not the best either. I hate the controlling crap and I’m just so sick of... more>> people treating it as romantic, it isn’t, it’s still ab*se. <<less
