Liang Qiuchi was shot several times on his way to the military court, and his head was seriously injured.

When he woke up, he couldn’t see, and he couldn’t remember anything.

To this, Mo Xin only lamented for a minute before readily accepting this fact.

Liang Qiuchi abandoned him for a whole eight years, only compensating with a pair of eyes, which was already considered cheap for him.

Mo Xin was the youngest and most promising general in the Federation, nicknamed the “War Machine”.

During the day, he was aloof and cold as ice, yet at night, he would lose himself to another man.

Mo Xin thought no one would see his infatuation.

But he failed to notice the gradually gathering starlight in Liang Qiuchi’s already bleak eyes.

“Mo Xin, I don’t understand why you saved me but refuse to let me regain my sight?”
“Because I want you to stay by my side, even if you’re broken.”
“Do you want me to be a dog tied to your side forever?!”
“Yes.”

Liang Qiuchi (top) vs. Mo Xin (bottom), strong vs. strong, 1v1, Happily Ever After (HE).

Interludes, mainly from the perspective of Liang Qiuchi (top).

The bottom’s character is extreme, with a love-stricken mind, paranoid and submissive personality. Not suitable for all controlling party readers, please avoid if necessary.

This novel is set up as a great thriller from the start, as the ML Mo Xin is on the yandere spectrum and the MC Liang Quichi is somewhat aware of what's going on but also hides from the reader just how much he knows. He regains his memory inexplicably, and I feel like the author really plays with perspective, not revealing much about either MC or ML's inner thoughts or their actual relationship. It makes the story much more engaging as the truth is slowly revealed, mostly through flashbacks.

Once... more>> the mystery behind their past is fully revealed at about the halfway point, the genre shifts into more action/political drama than psychological thriller, and the POV also becomes more in the perspective of Mo Xin (ML) than Liang Quichi. Mo Xin also becomes distinctly less yandere as the story progresses, probably because the relationship itself becomes more stable with the two of them actually communicating and working together.

I'll be honest, I was way more engaged while reading their cat and mouse dynamic at the start than their sweet romance after the midpoint. They unfortunately had way more chemistry as a couple before they actually confirmed their feelings for each other, but I think the problem here is that the relationship was so obsessive and crazy at the start that it became much less interesting once they became a sweetly loving and wholesome couple. Definitely a me problem here though, so you might like that they're not wildly toxic for the entire story lol

// Edit: Looks like the translation group has unlocked all the previously paywalled chapters and it's all readable now without having to resort to MTL - so perhaps my rant below helped? (They also went back and translated the originally censored explicit scenes so I'm thinking they saw my review lol) I do think these are good translations, so I'm really glad to see it! As always, do still support the original author on Changpei if you can :) Original review for context:

I'm not done reading, but just taking a stop to write this review because I'm pissed off about this translation group... the charging of "premium chapters" for a fan translation is ridiculous. They didn't even translate the explicit scenes (which if you're interested, you can find by googling the Chinese novel name + "car") and as usual I definitely recommend buying the raws off Changpei if you can instead! This fan translation charging $0.50 for a chapter is actually ridiculous pricing given that buying the whole novel on Changpei is literally less than $2. I only support those fan translators who enforce proof of purchase of raws, as forcing payment of fan translations is just stealing profits from the original author.

Anyways, I'm tired of ranting about this. For anyone trying to start reading this, just a warning that you'll have to MTL chapters 52-69 yourself. Luckily, this author's writing is easy to MTL and it's very readable, so no worries!

Would give five stars to the first half, but docking a point for my loss of interest in the second half. Bit of a mixed bag, but translation is smooth and it's a pretty fun read overall. I'll admit I found Mo Xin particularly crazy and genuinely hilarious when near the end he:

got the gun that Liang Quichi f*cked him with tattooed onto his body literally the day after lmaooo (yes they get pretty kinky...)

I filtered for 'mature' and this one came up at the top with good reviews. They're definitely a mature couple and I do really prefer that.

The premise is that through the story, they're both 'done wrong' and they have to fight to get their justice against the continual evil moves from a corrupt government.

I appreciated how they fought for each other when they could and longed for each other when they felt powerless. For me, it was definitely a good read.

Whoa. It read like a Western novel in that regard. Very specific, very detailed, very graphic. Especially with the 'aid' used. It was so different from any other translated novel. Most that are graphic tend towards gross. Lots of moves, no romance. This managed to be both.

All in all, I really liked it. <<less

Maybe I’m just a degenerate but I was expecting way more toxicity but it wasn’t that bad here lol. ML is a yandere but he isn’t as extreme as a lot of other BL characters tbh. He’s possessive of the MC and does a few shady things at the start because there was a break in trust, but overall, he respects the MC. He doesn’t really force him to do anything he doesn’t want to once they have an honest talk he goes along with pretty much everything the MC... more>> wants. I think I’m just used to too many non-con and constant secret surveillance scenes that this was very tame to me. It’s a good story but I feel like I was anticipating a lot more madness. <<less

B-tier (3.1 star point)

What I don't really like in a story:

1. Amnesia

... more>> 2. Exes

And this novel hit both marks. Granted, the amnesia is like only the first few chapters in the entire story, but that's the start. And when we have story about Exes, we will get bombarded with flashback to the happy day. This novel is also the same. The past might not be that long, but it's still another addition to the story for no reason either than to give background story for the characters. If we scrap all that, the story will still be completely fine.

The reason I can still give this B-tier mark is because of one of the main character, Mo Xin. He's unhinged and crazy, and he's always been like that since he was young. It was temporarily subdued in his teenager day when he met the other main character, Liang Qiuchi, who he fell in love with (I'm still confused on why this happened in the first place, but I guess it no longer matters). I love that he stays constant. It doesn't matter in the past or now, he's always been the same unhinged person who cares none of his own life but cares more about his beloved lover. Liang Qiuchi, as the other main character, didn't really have much of the personality except of having very sad background with being classified as "traitor" and his father got killed because he apparently try to defy the "Powerful Lord". The classic.

The story itself was really too fast paced. There's not even a moment to breathe in this novel. While it can be good for short story, this has over 90+ chapters. It should have enough time to build that narrative before we get to the main plot point. But no, because it's all about amnesia and exes, we spent at least around 20-30 chapters on this alone. This is why we don't have enough time to explore the main story at all. The story of the two of them going around in their yacht takes even more chapters than the story about the takeover of the Federation. It was just explained in few sentences: "Mo Xin lead the army to fight the Federation. Federation got their cities taken from them. The end."

Oh, they have some smut chapters, but it's not that detailed. Mostly just very rushed explanation, and most of the time, it's all left to our imagination as reader, which is also quite disappointing.

All in all, this is a decent read, but not for the people who love to dwell with the plot or love to explore different kind of story. It's okay enough, but not enough to make you actually remember what the story is all about. <<less

Very thrilling!

I love how heart pounding it was when ML was snooping around, trying to figure out what’s really going on and MC almost catching him

The mystery of what really happened to them also made me push through reading this novel

But after that, I didn’t feel like continuing anymore

Good read. Gotta admit that the shou in the story is some kind of crazy. However, the love between MC, Liang Qiuchi, and ML, Mo Xin, is real, deep, searing, and wild. The intro gives the gist of the first part of the plot.

Their past after a long separation is covered in flashbacks. In the end, things mostly work out and they have their long sought for happy ending.

Eight years ago, MC uncovered the truth about a corrupt official in a high position. When MC tried to expose it, his dad was framed and mu*dered (disguised as a su*cide). At that time, MC and ML were on the verge of confessing to each other. However, to protect ML, MC left without telling ML the whole story.

During the separation, ML went looking for MC but failed. He then became unhinged and turned into the "War Machine". Later when MC was caught, ML rescued MC and tried to keep MC by his side. Later MC recovered and they made up. ML helped MC to achieve his revenge.

Very enjoyable read. Tons of action and romance.

I feel like my biggest criticism is probably that

Spoiler

people randomly have shootouts in the streets and there's armed conflict constantly, which made this read a bit unrealistic/movie-like like those action scenes in a James Bond movie or something.

And all the shooting and action got old after abit...

[collapse]

MC is a hidden yandere, but he doesn't do anything irreversible (thankfully).

Spoiler

Also the pacing is a bit off...

[collapse]

But if you enjoy rebellions, double-agents, prison breaks, secret meetups, and more... this was pretty fun.

Translation was great. Very fluid.
