A two-headed infant hidden in a vault, feeding on human greed.
A man with a cracked face standing by her bed at midnight, releasing nightmares.
Recently, something even stranger began happening around her.
Every night, a handsome yet cold-faced man would appear outside her window. He wouldn’t speak or move—just stand there with a stern expression, staring at her window. Strangely enough, the usual evil spirits that hovered near her had all vanished.
One rainy night, unable to bear the silence any longer, Ying Ning gently opened the window and offered him an oil-paper umbrella.
Softly, she said, “It’s raining hard tonight… You should take this.”
The man’s face turned red—and then he ran away.

The Demon Lord Minglou had slumbered for a thousand years. Upon waking, he discovered that half of his power was gone. Worse, his unstable magic left him in agonizing pain every full moon, to the point he wished he were dead.
A shaman discovered the cause: somehow, all his lost power had been absorbed by a mortal woman named Ying Ning. Reclaiming it was simple—he just had to make physical contact with her.
The shaman advised,
“Your Excellency, I’ve devised a plan. We’ll abduct the girl, bring her to the Demon Realm, and have you cultivate together for seven days and nights. Your powers will naturally return to you. Afterward, we’ll throw her back to the mortal world. Problem solved.”
Minglou was ruthless and cruel, not one to feel guilt over harming a mere human woman.
When he finally found Ying Ning, she stood in a field of flowers, dressed in a green skirt with a bamboo basket on her back.
As she looked up at the sky and brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear, a bead of sweat slid down her porcelain cheek to her neck. Her sparkling apricot eyes curved into a gentle smile.
Minglou didn’t move.
The shaman urged, “Your Excellency, strike now!”
But Minglou abruptly turned away, covering half his face with one hand and stiffly replied,
“This woman… is not simple. Bring her back with us. I need time to reassess.”
He thought he’d hidden his face well—
But his crimson, burning ears betrayed him.

Later, Minglou learned that the girl already had someone she loved—and that she would be marrying him after winter.
And so, a curious rumor began to spread across the Six Realms.
The fierce, merciless Demon Lord—who had never shed a single tear—was seen crying during a battle against the Celestial War God.
Through gritted teeth and teary eyes, he cursed the unknown bastard who was about to marry the love of his life.
