The synopsis is misleading and I don't know how I feel about this novel.

Just gonna put it all in spoiler even though this gets "spoiled" pretty early on.

Spoiler

So the events in the synopsis never really happened, sort of.

MC is a mental patient suffering from schizophrenia and ML is his doctor (of like 7 years).

When he has an episode he reimagines himself as a novelist and everyone around him as characters in his fantasy and he becomes like psychicly good at "criminal profiling". To the degree that the police ab*se his mental instability to solve cases.

This is a pretty interesting plot but the issues I have with the novel is as follows:

1. Sometimes he literally is psychic, aka he knows who the next victim is gonna be because the crimes are based off of his "novel", but the novel doesn't really exist, so how does he know?

2. He keeps drastically changing his profile whenever new information arrives. Which is maybe realistic but it casts doubt on how useful any his profiles can be if they are often that wrong.

3. Because it keeps dipping in and out of his fantasy world, it makes you question what, if anything, is really true. It's like unreliable narrator turned up to the max.

4. In his fantasy, ML is neurotic, batsh*t crazy, thirsty and shameless and he's cold and indifferent. In the (probably) real world, ML is a cold, indifferent doctor and MC is constantly flirting with him.

Then suddenly one day ML is like"Yeah sure" and then a chapter later he's full "Ive loved you for 7 years and dedicated my whole life to you".

After 7 years of indifferently brushing off his flirting, that seems absurd. So either:

    • It's terrible writing
    • ML is pretending to get something out of MC
    • None of this is real and MCs fantasy is evolving.

And like, when he's busy fantasising, are the other people actually playing along or are they just watching him talk to himself?

Like I said, no idea how I feel about this novel.

I'm curious to see other people's thoughts on it. <<less

I wanted to give this 5 starts but accidentally clicked 4

I loved it!!! It was so interesting and had a unique concept. The synopsis is pretty misleading and early on in the book we find out what's actually going on. But then around like 3/4th of the novel there comes a twist and honestly though the author gave sufficient foreshadowing I was still suprised by the twist.

Honestly after reading the review by Alexania I got discouraged and wasn't gonna read this but in the end still decided to give this... more>> a try and glad I gave it a chance.

What Alexania says in their review is correct but that's just upto 8 chapters as you read further you will understand everything and get your answers though yes there are small plot holes but that doesn't ruin your experience in reading. <<less

I have truly complicated feelings about this novel, be it anger, frustration or complete admiration for the construction of the plot that the author wrote, damn, it was perfect, there were details that when reading I thought "did the author just slip her hand here? Why does this seem like a character or plot lapse", however soon the author gave me a metaphorical slap showing that everything was magnificently planned.

First, I consider the story to be that of an unreliable narrator, since most of the story is seen from... more>> the perspective of the protagonist (who throughout the plot we see knows less than he thinks he knows).

It is a complex story, the plots of the mu*ders are not really long and the solution to find the killers or the cause of the mu*ders does not have a very firm logic, but they are interesting and can be followed, so it is worth it; the main attraction of the novel is the protagonist and everything that surrounds him, obviously the reality that surrounds him can hide more than it seems, people are not as trustworthy as they seem, crazy people may not be so crazy after all,
Spoiler

dreams hide clues and the protagonist unconsciously knows that something is not right, even in his state of madness he leaves clues of his discomfort and even sober he is in a constant state of confusion without realizing it.

Throughout the story we read small details that cause some strangeness and when everything is revealed you look back and realize that from beginning to end something in your heart already knew that something was wrong, that you along with the protagonist had already realized that there were some things that didn't fit or were suspicious, but that we all dismissed because there didn't seem to be a reason. After reading I confess that I feel cheated and frustrated, there were subtle hints here and there, but...... *sigh*. I would even like to boldly compare the feelings I'm feeling with those I felt in relation to a certain TV series, the famous BL ship that many make, but that I hate PRECISELY for the same reason that made me drop this story in the current chapter, but if I say what it is, it would be too much of a spoiler.

The story is VERY good, but

in the end it left me bitter, damn, HE?? How dare the author proclaim this ending as HE??? Hold me back because I want to beat her up.

I quickly read the following chapters and I was just a little sad that character had died, I actually liked him. <<less
