As of the current state of the translation it's hard to tell about this one. First you should probably start with manga

I don't know if it's the difficulty translating Japanese or just the ratio of visual/ literal in the mangas but they always come across better than the novel translations.

Edit: managed to read 10 chapters of this through google translate and it's pretty bad. The opening which was what I thought was iffy and could have been better was actually the best part. And it seems to be dropping off... more>> a cliff from there. Toss in the fact that it's 300 chapters currently and as of 30 theres still no revenge, and seems to be dropping to an OP guy with a harem that drops into his lap, despite the girls winding up always protecting his honor. Toss out my old review and just drop it as 1 star or less. <<less

allright I have read the manga try the novel now, I will say this novel kinda hard to review, I mean really really hard to review, its your regular op MC isekai, MC grow slowly try to change but he cannot because when he try to forget revenge and become a good guy.........................................

MC realize this is the most f$ck up isekai world he ever seen, yeah he change from naive guy to try become better guy that not naive, try to forget revenge and get good life because many good... more>> people in the town that care who he is even being useless healer.

but then he encounter the truth about how is summon ritual works that litterally need a 1 town's of people then torture them to extract magic until death, the worst s*avery in history, racism, EATING BEASTMAN and every country king's is VERY EVIL, finally he flip turn into 100% yandere overprotective his harem / good friends he know.

yeah im talking akame ga kill world type of building that every country king can mu*der their citizen like hunting games, im not blaming MC why he getting worst mental health issue here, become mad, crazy not just because his classmate are bad, because the world is very bad as well.

his harem, his friend & everyone he know not safe in this world.

i don't blame MC turn evil, become overprotective and go crazy, this is the isekai world you don't want to visit.

is this novel deserve low rating ? no

does this novel deserve hi rating ? nope 3.5 is the best rating not everyone can swallow dark tone world building + overprotective yandere MC that literally want revenge as well.

the author I think bored making mainstream isekai world where everything is peacefull, in this world " PEACEFULL IS NOT OPTIONS". if you not carefull, you die / kitnap / or any posible bad thing can happen to MC, his harem, his friends. <<less

If you're new to here, I suggest you read the more polished version first, aka the light novel or manga version (which is based on the light novel).

The reason why I said that is you might be disillusioned into thinking thhis novel is all about revenge.

No, it's not.

... more>> Sure, at first the premise was all about revenge. But then Nito met with some people who had shown him that there are many ways of life; you can think about having revenge but you should never abandon your own happiness.

That's why after the first part the genre changes into Slice of Life, where Nito just stroll around the world, helping people here and there and seeking his own and his women's happiness.

That's why if you're expecting some bloody revenge, then you should find another novel to read. <<less

I've read ahead with online translators. The writing isn't great (the content, not the translation). The characters behave strangely, their motives and actions feel disjointed or "jumpy". It's almost like there's more going on in the story the author didn't bother to write.

The story starts off with him wanting revenge, but through internal monologue we learn that revenge isn't everything. Basically, he isn't going to ruin his life just to hurt the people that hurt him. Personally, I like stories where the MC heals, grows, and prioritizes happiness over revenge.... more>> BUT!...

Spoiler

then he nose dives, and by the end of the story everyone's dead, emotionally crippled, or sealed like an evil god. There's reasons why it turns out this way, but if I wanted a tragic story I'd watch the news.

This is just my personal preference; Let me escape into fantasy! Give me a happy ending!

It looks like the author borrowed ever idea from other writers. MC becomes insanely powerful, MC doesn't know he is insanely powerful, MC is scared of something, MC seeks revenge, MC is surrounded by cardboard characters, hot noble women (check), exotic demon girl (check) cute beast girl (check), and I stopped ready at chapter 60 but I expect he will find a majestic elf girl sometime later. What killed it for me, MC goes from above average IQ to low IQ is the span of 3 paragraphs. Walking away.

A NEET’s Guide to the Parallel World

its not a written as a guide, does not have any type of guide like structure, no guide like side chapters, I was really disappointed, with a title like that the author could had so much fun, but he choose to make it generic, typical isekai revenge story, everything happens because of the main character or happen to interact with the main character, do not expect any plot twists or surprises, there are none

main character is not a neet, not a real neet, he... more>> is just a normal dude that gets bullied before being isekaied, if you are already reading a good isekai, or have already read an isekai, do not read this expecting something special, its average, the definition of average in fact. <<less

This is dumb. If you want to exact revenge, just do it. Why bother someone else's point of view just to not doing it? The author aren't fit to write revenge stories like this as it get's ridiculous contradict with how he want it to be. He should just killed Saeki when he had the chance but instead are too s*upid to be scared of getting expelled but in the end, he's getting one as he killed Kogkyou. Where are the logic of his thinking? You let the bastard who... more>> bully and ab*se you alive but killed someone who you felt annoyed? I think the author is WAAAY confused than hidaka. <<less

I'm writing these I read the manga of some parts of the novel this novel really have potential to be exact but the premise should have not been focused on revenge because why would he have drive and that emotion and driving force to even strive to survive but cant even kill adventures that tried to kill him 2 times, that just f*ck it would have been better if he kills those people that deserve to be killed and he didnt even mind killing that last boss simething in the... more>> dungeon but have remorse for people that tried to kill him 2 times (wrong judgement by the author), the mmorpg system sh*t is wack it gives him instance reward without even working for it like his intiteld or something that he believes he deserves it (that just wrong move), it just making him lose himself more because he didnt earn it in the first place. <<less

Probably the author has experienced being bullied. What we read until the end is a nuclear bomb kid on a tantrum. King and Princess is bad.. kill. Bullies find out his identity trying to apologize.. kill. Childhood friend? What is that? Not much impact on the story. Harem? At the final war, he killed all his girls... remember bullying is bad.. we might created a monster because of bullying.

When he realized his revenge was all for nothing... his predecessor reset the world back to when the class about to summoned.... more>> When the world reset back, his bullies save him, his harem saves him and he gone to a journey with his OP Harem. There...i spoil the whole story. In my opinion, this is not a memorable story. I couldn't stand to read the whole story.... skip some arc.. read at the end... it's not tr*sh but better skip this. <<less

I tried, I seriously tried reading more but I can't, the story just keeps getting more and more idiotic as it goes, all thanks to our ingenious MC!

Seriously there has to be a limit to how dumb a story can be, but this author took it to another level, does he hate the MC so much and wants everyone to hate him too, or is the author oblivious just like his ret*rded MC?

Now let me get started, the MC goes about how nobody tried to help him when he was... more>> being bullied, so now he must kill them all as revenge, because how dare they "just watch and do nothing" WHEN IN REALITY A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE SERIOUSLY TRYING TO HELP HIM AND EVEN INTERJECTED AND OFFERED A HELPING HAND but no, he forgot that obviously, he forgot how he kept rejecting their help and how he kept keeping them away, then he seriously has the balls to wine and wonder why "no one" tried to help him? What's wrong with his head seriously? And that's not all, he has so many faults and is so ret*rded and is such an unlikable selfish bi*** that I can somehow understand why he was getting bullied. Instead of working on his own faults and flaws he just blames it on everyone else and pretend that no one seriously cares about him.

And that's not all, what do you think he did when he heard someone close and precious to him was going to die soon for all he knows, he took it calmly and went on with his life as if it wasn't a matter of urgency.

He meets a nice powerless princess who needs help. Not my problem I shouldn't get involved, fast forward some chapters and that nice princess turns out to be a crazy psycho bi*** that enjoys torturing and killing innocent people which she herself admits, not getting involved? To hell with that! Now is the time to spare her life and add her to my party!

Healers can't use attack magic? Let me cry everyday about how unjust the world is and how difficult life is for me a healer! And yeah ignore my literally world destroying OP magic, that doesn't count as attack magic.

And there is much more but anyway, I really feel tired the more I keep reading, a good story is supposed to suck you in and makes you forget the flow of time, not tired and drained. <<less

Definitely not as bad everyone made it out too

We have a hero being consumed by his own power if he going against his true desires. If he keeps failing he will be demoted from abyssal King candidate to just a fool.

If he becomes a fool then he destroys the world and everyone in it.

There is a weird future-sight moment that actually makes no sense but well... There are people who can think binary and people who cant. Thats how it is. You can explain the theories of timetravel and there are still 3 opinions on its logic and execution/ limitations. (Steinsgate has done it well and a few others but thats just my opinion. There are people who do not believe in relative timelines.)

The ending got reworked as far as I heard or it has two endings. I dont get it but maybe I will find those sidestories one day.
Spoiler

Its a true ending without happy ending feeling.

Death is finite so is the mental capacity of humans. Tortuted people can breakdown after a while without chances of recovery, s*aves can be so used to that life that they become dependent for the rest of their lifes, depressed people can be just like that if they dont get help or help themselves. Its not nice and I didnt like it but its also not my story. I just read it. <<less

So... I don't generally write reviews for Japanese Novels. Mostly because they tend to be really long with no end in sight, or they aren't fully translated. In any case, I mostly end up giving up a novel halfway and coming back to it after a really long time.

This time I decided to write one because this novel is receiving a lot of unfair backlash. While I cannot say this is one of the better novels I've read, I can say it's not as bad as the one star reviewers... more>> are labelling it as. If you're the type of reader that is patient and willing to wade through a few dozen chapters, it's not that bad of a story. That said if you are the type of reader that dislike roundabout scenarios and reading through stories written by fledgling writers then you should just drop this novel and move on.

As stated beforehand in the synopsis this is a revenge story, but not the kind of revenge plot that is most spoken for (i.e. Shield Hero, Arifureta, etc.) It is more... mellow and not as vein-throbbing and anger-inciting as the aforementioned examples. In fact, the associated title is a better name for this novel. It has a slice-of-life undertone, with revenge as an a la carte. It's more about a suicidal/self-deprecating character who finds his meaning in living in the world. It's just really buried under the messy, underdeveloped writing of an inexperienced author. If you're interested in the premise, but don't want to go through the writing, you can also just try the manga version of this story.

About the character and the 'revenge plot':

Spoiler

He does take revenge. Although it wasn't instigated by himself, he doesn't abandon it half-way and it's actually quite early on that he manages to get his revenge on the kingdom that summons him. This is probably because the revenge plot is more of a tool that the author uses to drive a suicidal character into caring about his life enough to not just give up in a dangerous dungeon, and a setting that allows the MC to meet and get acquainted with an anti-corruption terrorist gang.

Awful. Revenge novel that delivers cringe. Huge logic holes, one of the s*upidest weak to OP powerups I've recently read (why didn't the level 500 mimic eat him? A natural disaster level monster that can end countries couldn't be arsed walking a few feet and eating a Lv1 free meal). Inexplicable harem. Title is a bait and switch, story has jack all to do with healing (MC gets skill steal powers on top of skill effect reversal). MC beats the shortest dungeon ever to become OP in the beginning and... more>> b*tches about it in the rest of the story. When MC meets his classmates again he can't even do his revenge right. Translation is not good.

If I had to resume what you should expect from this novel in one word it would be inconsistency. The premise is pretty simple, bullied MC is summoned to another world with his class and bullies, receives a class considered tr*sh, gets exiled/teleported to an end game dungeon, swears revenge on the kingdom and his bullies for underestimating him and becomes op in 10 chapters. So far the scenario is just your generic power fantasy with an underestimated MC and a pinch of revenge plot. The first “real” arc starts,... more>> I call it arc but it is just MC staying in one area and doing stuff as an adventurer. It spans chapter 10 to 50 approximately. Honestly it wasn’t that bad for a chill read.

But when the MC starts travelling the plot goes to sh*t. First I think I counted more or less 5 unfinished plot points in the first location, that are never addressed later on. Second the pace is all over the place. It feels like one of those stories where the author rushes to finish in fear of getting axed, the problem is we aren’t even half way through the story. Third, the author tries to give depth to the MC by having him take odd decisions in moral situations only to give you a half baked and incoherent reason for said decision. One of the most representative moments is around chapter 70:

Spoiler

the MC and a group of vigilantes/terrorists/revolutionaries choose to eradicate a king and princess for having ordered the genocide of their citizens after an uprising (over losing their connection to a pseudo-TV). The king is killed by the partners and his last words are something like “I’m the king, my kingdom and citizens are my property so I can do whatever I want”. MC has no problem with him dying. But when the princess, who actually ordered the genocide and wanted the citizens to be burnt alive, throws out “I never wanted to be a princess, I’m two-faced because it’s what people want to see so I’m a victim too. You (the MC) should know what it’s like right? I mean you are hiding your face so you are a liar, and evil. I thought you would understand me.”. (Yeah even when writing this I still don’t get how she got to this conclusion). When the MC hears that he goes “mmh who am I to judge. Good and evil are abstract and subjective concepts. I also want to take revenge against my bullies so I can’t judge her. Hmm... alright I’ll just add her to my harem. PROBLEM SOLVED. ». Wtf none of this scene makes any sense and the author tries to make us believe that the MC is actually making a coherent decision but is just misunderstood by his group...

[collapse]

Honestly I tried to trust the author thinking it was just a down phase for the story and it would improve but after 40 chapters of bullsh*t I give up.

tldr: don’t read it if you are looking for a story that makes sense. That’s it. <<less

Primer, the TL's quality is all over the place, and it's quite obvious some confusing passages are probably more sensible in Japanese. There's effectively no quality control/editing before some of the translated chapters are put out. Not to mention the ubiquitous your/you're-they're/their/there problems, there are instance of auto-correct weirdness. "What the f*ck" got turned into "What the French Toast" at one point, and I've seen what must have been "dumb looking" show up as 'dumbledore' too. This only shows that I can't be sure whether or not some of the... more>> more arcane chapters are quasi-nonsensical because the author is just inconsistent or if it's just TL badness.

It's generic but it could have been saved. Up until somewhere around the moment the MC gets vast recognition for his deeds, it's could actually be quite charming at times. Then it got edgy. Bad edgy. It got so bad that it actually kept killing any semblance of immersion; at any such 2EDGY4U moment, you can't help but pull back and try to figure out what the heck is wrong with the author. At some point, a supporting character was unceremoniously dumped because it was obvious she would be incredibly disapproving of the MC's future antics. She was, in other words, too normal to keep as a follower. Obviously this happen for 'a reason' in-universe but the move is the most transparent character reshuffle I've ever seen in fiction. Even My Immortal was never that bad.

Speaking of normies, they are apparently nonexistent in this Other World. Everyone has mental issues. ALL OF THEM! I'm only exaggerating a little, there's maybe two or three characters that could pass for well adjusted. Heck, the main 'girl' suddenly develops something like a secondary personality effectively out of nowhere, only for that to be resolved somehow and not actually be explained. Everything that isn't explained immediately will not be explained further down the line, period.

There are a lot of things that go wrong in this, and I could probably list a hundred other items that are just heckin' wack, but if you've made it this far into my review... Well, thrust me, alright? Don't.

P.S. Maybe the manga will streamline some things, but reading the novel really killed it for me. I don't think anything but a complete rewrite of everything post-first-town would be enough. <<less

Starts off decently. Not a great novel by any means, but it's fine if you need something to read. At chapter 69 it takes a complete turn to shit. The MC completely changes almost instantly, his decisions makes no sense, and you just sit there wondering if the author died and some 14 year old emo kid took over writing without telling anyone.

If you're bored, read up to chapter 65 or so and just stop.
