Sorry, but a good story isn't one in which women are always right and men are always wrong. And that's not misogyny. The reviewer who complained that this story is misogynistic is lying.

To be honest, I started reading this story to see if it was misogynistic. More often than not, when someone complains about misogyny in a story, it actually means the person complaining is detached from reality and radicalized. A Night of Desperation is exactly like that. There are more capable women than men in this story. The main... more>> character is saved by two women at the beginning of the story. Women often hold leadership positions in the military. By Chinese standards, this story is as feminist as it can get. Using one's femininity to get what one wants from men is not misogyny. And the women the previous reviewer complained about tried to kill the MC. The previous reviewer conveniently left that out.

Now, on to the actual review. This story is really good. It's like a combination of SCP and Wuxia. It's solid horror with thoughtful world-building and interesting characters. The story is told from multiple perspectives, which I really like when writers can make it work. Head hopping can be annoying, but when it's done well, it's effective, so it's a net positive.

Though the main character is arguably overpowered, the story escalates at just the right pace to maintain tension throughout. And though it's a base-building story, you will never be bored. Yes, there is cultivation and cultivation doesn't make the story tr*sh, especially when the author is obviously trying something new.

The translation, however, is terrible. It's barely edited MTL. One instance even included the "Here is the translation of the text, " which is what GPT produces when you ask it to translate something. Thank goodness AI is advancing rapidly, and we'll soon be liberated from such poor-quality "translations."

But the AI TL is already good enough. Overall, if you want a good horror survival story with good world-building, multiple mysteries, and important characters, this one is like that, at least for the first 200 chapters. Maybe I'm slightly biased after reading the previous review and glazed the story too hard. I will update my review later if so. <<less

Ngl, this story has pretty immersive writing style and the world building is captivating. This story would've been perfect if the author toned down the misogyny and qi cultivation progression fantasy crap.

Seriously, why is every woman described in terms of their physical "assets" and then promptly dismissed in derogatory ways? You can't argue it's because of the male MC's personality affecting the narration because the misogynistic attitude extends to 3rd voice narrative POV's outside the male MC's. Sure, the male MC (so far) has not shown any outward creepy intentions... more>> towards female characters in this series, but there seems to be hidden resentment towards the female population? Within the male MC's POV, the female characters are suspicious of him and throw themselves at his feet, and then the male MC proceeds to trample on their basic dignity and blaming them for being distrusting/scheming when he never bothered to try and extend a reasonable olive branch. He even mocks a female character for her suspicions that he harbors ulterior motives towards her after she is disfigured during combat. He also mocks the concept of sisterhood by leaving two women to die outside to see if either is left behind by the other. WTF? Another prominent female side character that was cold and calculating towards him ends up mildly insane and pregnant due to se*ual violence after she decided to part ways with him, only becoming more normal after returning to his care. There are even jokes about how a female child under male MC's care might end up marrying him. Sure he refused this but why even joke about this, author? Gross.

I wonder if something is wrong with the author psychologically. Pretty disappointed because I really enjoyed the supernatural post-apocalyptic world setting and the author's horror genre writing style. <<less
