A Reversal of Unrequited Love

I believed that my husband was gradually opening his heart, even though our marriage was the result of my unrequited love.

“So, who is the father of the child in your womb?”

I was immediately stunned by this sudden question. As soon as I announced my pregnancy, his response struck me.

“Why, why would you ask that? It’s your child after all…”

“Hyacinth. I could not have embraced you.”

“…..”

“Let’s get divorced after you give birth. This is the maximum leniency I can show, not exposing your infidelity.”

I am honest with him. That night, we were clearly together.

I gazed at him bewildered, but his impassive face was as calm as an icy wall.

“…Why did you marry me?”

“Did I want to?”

I had no choice but to accept it.

The truth that all my previous struggles were pointless, and the reality that my efforts had no impact on him whatsoever.

I was the only one clinging to a relationship as fragile as a sandcastle.

I love this novel solely for the ML's suffering. Halfway through, it switches from their first life to their second life after ML treats MC like tr*sh!

But the surprising thing is, is that it's in HIS perspective. He's miserable, unhappy, and absolutely HATES himself for everything he's done to MC.

It's not often we get the perspective of ML's in these kind of novels, especially when they regress, and I highly recommend it for anyone that's feeling particularly sadistic and wants to see a man grovel.

I loved this novel.

I like such melancholic tragic-style novels but the problem is to achieve that result, writers make characters dumb which takes away the joy of reading. I hate when tragedy strikes due to the utter incompetence of the MCs /MLs, when they don't put in any effort.

Compared to that here we have an MC proactive but within her character limit. She expresses her feelings and doesn't hold back, which is refreshing compared to the recluse-anti-social characters.

The only thing I hope is that the writer won't make ML's redemption... more>> easy. At this point, I can't see how he can make up for what he did.

That's another thing I hate in these novels, where they set up the ML to do such messy things but take an easy way out with the redemption. They are forgiven, well because they are the ML? I would be satisfied even if they live estranged forever as long as the Duke realises his wrongdoings. If that's not possible I hope he grovels at her feet for years because I can't see how her trauma will be healed easily with a sob story. <<less

I cried so hard that I can't express my feelings right now. English is not my first language, I just want to people know why I cried so here it is:

I'm just saying but I don't think I would give male lead another chance. Thats just me, sorry.

I read this books first 30 chapter till the sunrise and I cried so hard that I AM WRITING A REVIEW FOR THE FIRST TIME. I don't think im saying so much, so if you are weak, if you are not okay with... more>> second chance or can't handle the reading things female lead go thru do not read this. Again, I dont think im saying a lot, its just I felt a lot.

Spoiler

Call it hating man or anything but I will never understand how thia bastards do a lot and still have a second chance. Like no, I would kill you. When he turn back in time and go to her I was like "dude get the f*ck off" CAUSE WHYYYYYY leave her alone. She swan you frog. And like I kinda get that she was sad, he had a bad childhood but I DO NOT CARE. I will not accept.

When I talk to my sister about this book, I cried and she wanna know why, she said female lead was s*upid and she get what she should get. IM SORRY??? I do understand its bad to make someone do something, marriage, when they dont want to BUT THE AFTER MATH SHOULDNT BE THIS. She was all alone, only has her child and so scared and then lost him too. Like I said, I would kill him.

[collapse]

Spoiler

And you know like I still dont get why it always took male leads A LIFE to understand their feelings. I am here for drama. I am here for to see a man cry. But still... Female leads always the one who have bad lives and somehow male leads always has second chances. Well grow up dude. Some of us also have bad childhood DO YOU SEE ME LEAVING MY PREGNANT HUSBAND well you cant but I wouldnt tho.

Im happy for happy ending. But im so sad that he also have this happy ending.

[collapse]

I see a lot of people are happy with them but well... I guess because I read at 5 am, I wasnt feeling good.

It was heartbreaking and beautiful. Both leads are flawed in their own ways and they strive to overcome their flaws. I especially loved how the story ends.

One thing I appreciate about this one is that the ML didn't actually really do anything to harm the FL directly? Nothing that didn't make sense anyways. Like it's one of those things where everything piles on top of each other to create the absolute worst circumstances possible despite both leads having understandable thought processes & if even one of those circumstances had changed or just not happened at all the first life probably would have turned out okay in the end IE.
Spoiler

if the princess' nanny had still been there when it was discovered she was pregnant and could have admitted to drugging him into consummating the marriage, if the head maid hadn't overheard the FL talking to Jeremy, if he'd come back sooner, even if just after all that the baby hadn't been sick and lived more than a few days so FL would have had time to mend her health and come out of the volatile post-partum period cos girlie was not behaving like a wholly sane person towards the end there

so I ended up rooting hard for their do-over lol

I kind of really wish that the story ended just before the side stories. The story has been split into 3 parts (excluding the side stories).

Part 1 = First life where the FMC is blindly in love with the MMC. She falls in love at first sight with him and he does not deserve her love at all.

He was so cruel to her.... more>>
Spoiler

I would definitely say he was also physically abusive because straight up r*pes her. All the s*x scenes in the main story were very uncomfortable to read about and we find out in the side stories that she actually felt no pleasure.

[collapse]

He then accused her of cheating after she is pregnant and abandons her until she gives birth.
Spoiler

What gets me the most honestly is how horribly his household treats her, she is never given medical help, she has no servants to help her, she is starved. She is heavily pregnant btw, and the servants do this believing she cheated in their master. The audacity of these servants. FMC is a royal, she was basically raised as the King's daughter, even if she cheated (which she would never) they had no right to ever treat her poorly in any way.

[collapse]

All of this lead to the FMCs very gruesome death.

Part 2 = This starts off with the MMC going back in time 5 years where he then goes to check that she is alive and well. I wish he left her at this point. Despite how satisfying it was to read about the MMC hating himself, I wish he at least left her alone from the beginning but he did not.

Despite how much he hated himself and wanted redemption, he could never do enough to gain this redemption. He is undeserving of a redemption as it is too late, he killed his wife and son, there is no second chance to this.

Spoiler

Also, I just hate how the FMC justifies the hell the MMC put her though simply because he hated red hair (her hair colour). Yes I get that he was ab*sed by a women with the same hair as her, but that can never justify him abusing someone else simply for their hair colour. She keeps talking about his trauma with red hair, NO it was just his trauma with one very horrible women.

[collapse]

Part 3 = This is a close servant of the MMC's diary. Now this was my FAVOURITE part of the novel going into just how miserable the MMC was after the FMC's death and how miserable his household was. It was so satisfying to see everyone get what was coming for them for doing what they did to the King's neice.

Spoiler

I really wish the story ended here because then the conclusion would be that the MMC went insane. That he spiraled to the point that he thinks he has a chance to redo the past and be with the FMC again. The way this part of the story was going, I genuinely thought that that was how it was going to end and I was so happy about it. This would have been such a realistic and good ending for me, making essentially half the novel a dream/delusional of the MMC where he is acting out a life with the FMC when she is actually not there. It would be such a good plot twist.

Sadly there are side stories going into the HEA of the FMC and MMC together in the alternate timeline.

I hated the fact that people pity someone like the FL. Basically the reality:

Women who forces their feelings/their self on a man who won't love them = pity

A man who forces their self or their feelings on a woman = a bastard. Tr*sh. Red flag.

See this pattern? I hate that almost everyone hated the ML when in fact, it was the FL who was the selfish b*tch. And karma was what happened to her but she gets ... more>>

a second chance and a happy ending (I skimmed the chapters after ch 28 and saw that there's a redeption arc. Imma pretend that didn't exist cuz there's no redemption needed).

Bro, the ML rejected the marriage but the FL wanted it, so the King forced it and so the ML has no option but to accept. Yet the FL is pitiful. The ML isn't without fault to but ultimately, the blame should fall on the FL but people seems to blame the ML. It's disgusting.

[collapse]

I'm rating it a bit high because I firmly believe the ML would've been better not knowing or meeting this disgusting piece of sh*t of a woman. He deserves better. <<less

I don't know why the ratings are so low. This novel is absolute Gold! It clearly showcases ML's struggle for forgiveness, the emotions of the FL when she forgives, That's the beauty of this novel. Redemption arc is a solid 100/10. And it also delves into a lot of emotionally practical aspects of love albeit in a fantasy setting.

At first I was a little worried the redemption arc wouldn't be sufficient but I thoroughly enjoyed each character coming to terms with the past. It's hard to hate one character more than the other because at the end of the day they both made mistakes and one was not more to blame than the other.

Spoiler

Hyacinth, while she does love him, forces the marriage on him without understanding why he dislikes her. And as for Ethan his trauma greatly limits him in forming bonds and accepting Hyacinth even though he is attracted to her. Additionally, the nanny will piss you off because her meddling is what led to their misery in their first life. I believe if she hadn't drugged the Duke that they would've bonded over time.

Overall is was a great read with just the right amount of tragedy. <<less

At first, I expected the novel to be boring, but to my surprise, it turned out to be quite engaging. The interactions and dialogues between the two main characters were dynamic, and the male lead made the most of his second chance.

This novel holds a cherished place in my heart. I love both leads (which is rarely the case in novels like this). While neither of them is perfect, they both strive to navigate their challenging circumstances. The ML, in particular, initially resistant to the forced marriage, often appeared indifferent, in contrast to the other MLs who were mean and downright cruel to their spouses right from the beginning.

Spoiler

However, I do have to acknowledge that his actions following their intimacy (which he had no recollection of) were undeniably cruel. The hurtful words and subsequent actions were unnecessary and deeply damaging to her and their almost non existent relationship.

[collapse]

The novel's regret arc is done tastefully (!). The past is not conveniently brushed aside; the ML continually grappled with his actions and their enduring consequences. Their story of regret and reconciliation unfolded gradually, allowing for a realistic portrayal of their emotional journey as they both confront the weight of their past in their current lives. This was the case for the ML especially. His past also didn't excuse his actions (!).

Spoiler

The first side story, recounting the aide's POV of what happened to the ML following the FL's su*cide, was deeply haunting. The ML's raw emotions were truly palpable—the regret, the self-blame, you name it. I think it explained really well why the ML acted the way he did in their second lives.

[collapse]

If I have one gripe about this novel, it's that it ended way too soon for my liking. But that's only because I love it so much! Thank goodness for the side stories though! <<less

My hands trembled as I read this :") it was so well written that I could feel an emotion so deep. The tragedy, and the ups and downs of their relationship... Anyway, it was a good read. Even the redemption arcs; It was really well written to the point that I think it was the most realistic one of all novel of same genre that i've ever read. Not once that I felt such 'st*pidness' vibes from the FL for her actions, no dragged and prolonged drama.

I love this novel!... more>> Feeling so grateful for the author and translation team for completing this novel~ thank you! <<less

I love a good grovel, but this novel is SO boring. FL is s*upid and naive (and not endearingly so), and ML is too dramatic for his own good. This story would have had a good premise if it was just written well, but for some reason this felt like a middle schooler's written work. Jumble of words that don't evoke much emotion (even though it tries so hard, but obviously fails). I skipped so many parts and I still couldn't finish. The low rating is justified.
