Shidou Rintaro, a high school student who aspires to be a full-time househusband, is in the same class as Otosaki Rei, a member of the popular idol group “Millefeuille Stars”. Rintaro, who has no deep interest in idols, accepts this as a fact and lives his life without any particular involvement.

One day, a turning point came to him. Rintaro unintentionally helps Otosaki Rei after she unexpectedly collapses at the nearest station, and discovers that she is too hungry to move due to the rigorous lessons. Rintaro has no choice but to serve her a home-cooked meal and tell her that this is the end of their relationship.

“I’ll pay 300,000 yen a month, and I’ll also pay for food for the two of us. So, please provide me with food every day.”

Rintaro is wary of such a tempting offer, but as he gets to know her unclouded heart, the bond between them gradually deepens.

As Rintaro is favored by other members of the Millefeuille Stars besides Otosaki, and saves them from their predicament, they become irreplaceable to each other.

This is the story of a man and a woman who live in different worlds, but who eventually unite.

I'll be splitting my impressions of this light novel into several parts, and I'll be editing this review over time.

Honestly, I regret not starting it earlier — I had much stronger, clearer feelings in the earlier chapters, and now they've already begun to fade. Which is a shame.

... more>> That said, the story overall is very well-written. The translation is top-notch — seriously, huge props and thanks for the amount of work put into this.

The characters are fantastic. Even the harem aspect, which normally gets on my nerves, has been surprisingly tolerable so far.

All in all, I would've been incredibly satisfied with what I've read... if not for what starts happening around chapter 40.

I'm currently on chapter 45, and I'll say it openly — I was not prepared for this level of "dense".

The MC seems relatively competent at first glance, but the combination of a suffocating inferiority complex and his absurdly dense behavior is just... nauseating. Like, physically upsetting.

It completely ruins the reading experience in a way that feels almost satirical. Which is such a shame, because the characters are genuinely well-written, the relationships are well-paced, and there's real potential here.

But this level of "dense" is so unnecessary it borders on insulting.

And no — "his mom left and dad was emotionally absent" does not justify this. That's not how trauma or emotional development works.

So honestly? The author massively overdid it here.

Spoiler

Alright folks, after chapter 108 — which is roughly where volume four kicks off — I've decided I'm not going to keep sacrificing my mental health for this. I'm out.

Huge respect to the translators — seriously, they've done an amazing job. And the story does have a lot going for it.

But I'm not a fan of overcomplicating things for no good reason, and that's exactly what's happening here.

The beginning of volume four basically throws a grenade into the structure we've had up to this point — it's like an earthquake that resets everything.

Chapter 3 really showed us that the real battle for the MC's heart is kicking off. And it's done so well that you honestly don't know who to root for — every girl is fantastic, and you kind of just want all of them to win.

This might actually be the first light novel where I genuinely want a harem ending to happen. So yeah, I'm really impressed with the author's ability to build such strong, likable characters.

Unfortunately... I'm also really disappointed with where volume 4 is heading.

I read through the summaries of the upcoming volumes, and I already know this won't go well for me. It's the kind of plot that I find more frustrating than enjoyable.

Now — not everyone will feel the same, and I completely understand if you do enjoy that kind of emotional drama.

You know the type: she goes abroad for two years, he waits, she meets someone who's just a "friend" but the MC misreads the whole thing, gets jealous, and then his childhood friend shows up, and she misreads the situation in return.

I'm pretty sure that's the direction we're heading in — and while I'm not a fan of that trope, I get that some people are.

So if that's your thing, you might still really enjoy this.

But for me... I just don't think it's worth the emotional exhaustion.

Not really all that great. Premise seemed pretty generic, but I like a good sweet and fluffy romance, so I thought why not. This novel simply doesn't deliver on that front.

Everything was fine when it was just the MC and the FL interacting with one another and developing their friendship/relationship, but when other women came into the picture, things really took a downward turn. Literally every girl introduced has a thing for the MC and the novel is slowly turning into something similar to a harem. He ofc only likes... more>> the FL, but every other girl has a thing for him and it's hindering the progress between him and the FL.

Then the trope of him and the FL meeting when young and she apparently falling in love with him, and continuing to be in love with him after so many years is overdone and annoying. What's worse is that the MC, plagued with "trauma", doesn't remember her as those memories would remind him of his past. The clues are right in front of the MC's face, but he continues to be obvious. Then ofc you have the FL who wants the MC to remember on his own, so things between them continue to be dragged out.

Not to mention the MC's personality. Unconfident, thinking himself unworthy of the FL, just a real irksome character.

I've read the raws simply to see if they've gotten together yet, and even up to the most recently uploaded chapter, nothing at all indicates that they'd be getting together anytime soon.

Just a waste a time reading this. You'll get zero satisfaction as there's hardly any romance to speak of when the two characters involved keep flirting around the issue and their relationship hardly progressing. Wouldn't recommend reading. <<less

I don't know why this novel is not getting attention...... this novel need much more attention. Its so good after so far reading it is really is good MC and mfc both are good. MC is not dense but he some low self-esteem because of past. Other than that everything is so good. I hope MC and fMC get together fast.

Surprisingly likable characters. Maybe it's because I primarily read tr*sh, but it feels pretty earnest.

It starts off pretty rough, but it won me over by around pt 10, and largely got better from there.

Worth a read.

I have the same exact sentiment as Omphalite. Because despite the utterly tr*shy premise, this novel is an extremely enjoyable read.

Sure the plot is nothing groundbreaking (slightly cliched at times even), but what I look for the most in romcoms are good characters, and yeah, the whole cast (MC, FMC, and the whole supporting cast) are very loveable. Their interactions are very cute and funny, their different ways of supporting eachother make me feel warm inside, and the doses of condensed sugar that the main couple sometimes inject into my... more>> veins keep me going through my days.

Overall, this novel is not perfect by any meanings of the word, but if you're a fan of romcoms then give this one a try, you won't regret it. <<less

while I agree with elias, this was enough for me to mtl ahead, while author seems to be wanting to setup modern harem house husband while not implying it, its written well enough I hope the author continues the wn since last update was last jul for hopefully working on ln, I agree this is one of the better try to have modern harem? while male isnt at the top or bottom crawling poor, every novel especially wn wise gets scrapped earlier by author for serialization of short ln's so... more>> wn readers never get any real sense of completion, hope current group finishes out but dont see the author finishing wn or writing an early end on wn, only wish there were more modern/fantasy (nobles) harem type picking up low male and romcom grows types out there....

edit: praying some group picks up ln as these kinda of stories are becoming few and far between <<less

I don't know why this is so low rated. Like it isn't anything spectacular but I've seen far worse get rated higher. It's a bit cliche with some modicum of uniqueness. The MC is a big plus since he isn't generic JP MC #43. The title makes him out to be worse than he actually is. It's decently written. Better translated than most. And it's just decently enjoyable with no major downsides.

It was fine at first. Yeah, a lot of overused trope can be seen, but I was fine with it thinking "it was fine, as long as I can see MC and FMC flirting"

Until it turned in to a harem, which is not my thing, I feel like I has been tricked. But I keep reading, hoping that "harem" thing doesn't last long because of course MC and FMC gonna end up together right? But it just keep going and it's tired.

I do like MC personality. The girls are great.... more>> But harem just isn't my thing. And why making it a harem if who MC gonna end up with is clear from the start?

It's alright story, if you don't mind the problem that I have then give it a try <<less

The story may not make sense and make you cringe at the MC sometimes, but I found the interactions between the MC and fMC entertaining. The MC isn't as beta as most MCs and doesn't speak politely as hell and make the atmosphere awkward. The fMC is cute, like, she just gets cuter as the story progresses. Well, this story probably has quite a few flaws, but if you just turn off your brain and don't think too much about it, you'll enjoy this. This is one of those stories... more>> to just absorb sugar and fluff from whenever you're not looking to read a masterpiece or emotional novel, just relax and don't think too much about it! <<less
