The long history of the isekai genre can be summarized as follows: initally a single person is spirited away to a new world and the story would follow them exclusively. Later, authors started incorporating small groups of people, 2 or 3 or so in order to create a traditional rpg-party type atmosphere and allow for multiple perspectives from the same event to take place, giving the reader more indepth knowledge of whats going on. Then authors began exploring concepts such as 'what if random people also got caught up in... more>> the summoning' turning the story into (hero party +1). Eventually, it became a trend to kidnap entire busses or class rooms of students, bringing the available characters well into the 30s or 50s. In this manner, different aspects of a story can be experienced and promoted by multiple points of view rather than everything revolve around the same person or isolated group of people.

This story, goes even bigger: An entire university campus with everyone in it is sent flying through time and space and crash lands on a mountain top in a new world. 721 people initally survive this journey, and this is their story.

Xiao Chen is the main character, but there are constant pov shifts and side plots involving the other 720 people as well as perspectives from native-otherworlders dealing with the people from the school. This group includes not just students and professors, but soldiers, craftsmen, politicans, businessmen, and so on.

As a result, the narrative is all over the place. There is infighting, there is politics, there is spying and posturing and misunderstandings, backstabbing and betrayal. Different people have different goals and motivations. Regular people inadvertently put their own group at risk by not understanding the situation correctly, others are able to monopolize aspects of the situation and gain wealth and power which generates jealousy and hatred. Some people in this group stubornly stick to their old principles and ideas to the detriment to those around them. Theres even a little bit of romance here and there. But on the flipside, there are people who rise to the occasion and attempt to adapt to the new world. Some fall and become martyrs, while others become heroes and legends.
