This is a very straightforward story.

MC is the unfavoured twin, constantly being ab*sed by her mother. MC saves a magical fish and this fish give her a jade that dispenses magical beads that can sure illness/beautify the skin/grow plants. The jade is kind of like a limitless tic tac dispenser, and with this magical tool and MC's magical koi luck, she embarks on the perfect life without any major challenges in life. She becomes beautiful and smart, loved by her family and excels easily in school. Besides her rough start... more>> in life, everything else after that is smooth sailing for her. She is a winner in life.

All the "bad" people, like her mother and younger sister, as all the evil relatives out there, all get their just desserts and are punished, either by the law or their family or just the plot, in some way. Everyone who is bad ends up with bad endings, while everyone who is good ends up getting a perfect marriage and a happy life. Legit everyone eventually pairs up and has kids.

It's not a bad novel. I very much enjoyed it except for the romance. The romance was bland and boring. <<less

The grandparents were the stars of this c-novel - not the typical old school mentality of favouring the sons over daughters. Betrayed? Divorce! Divorced? You can re-marry or not.

The first branch couple was entertaining. The eldest sister in law was gossipy, loved to show off and of course, spoilt the son.
Spoiler

She gave birth to another daughter but in pretending to spoilt that child to get on the good side of the grandmother, ended up loving the girl and in turn, that confident girl was the only one, besides grandma, who can control her mother's mouth.

[collapse]

Like the parents, the son also inherits some of the brain cells.

Spoiler

Absolutely loved the part about eating bee's poop. MC's fan girl then goes on to talk about her own experience of eating poop in front of everyone! She just doesn't stop at "You've eaten poop too?"

[collapse]

What I hated is how the "wicked" ones are treated in the 70s. Also, women are property and wife beating is the norm.

At least, most of the villains are shot/executed. I feel bad for some of the women though.
Spoiler

Wan'er's mom fell for the s*umbag doctor and it was enough to divorce her but she was forced by her maternal family to abort the baby and sold off to an older man. I'm glad that family got their comeuppance. And the educated youth who tried to get out of work ended up having to marry that guy. In the end, she was only looking for a better life, albeit the "easy" way.

[collapse]

Pretty much the Qiao family and those who helped them end up with good partners.

The Koi fish doesn't appear much.
Spoiler

MC saves the fish and the fish gifts her a fish pendant that produces these magic pills that can prologue life, cure illnesses, etc., in addition to incredible luck where anyone who curses her or tries to do something bad to her falls into bad luck from stepping into poop or getting struck by lightning.

[collapse]

The romance between the MC and ML became bland for me. I was more interested in the other couples and towards the end, the luck of the MC worn off for me. She's beautiful, smart, etc. Etc.

Good Plotline. There was lot of characters and every character has weightage and story. The novel was not entirely overpowered by ML and FL. You can read father's love for daughter, womans insecurity, gentle man who listens his wife in those times and so on. There was many who also have flaws in their characters. But these doesn't degrade this novel.

Spoiler

Eventhough the antogonists are reborn and transmigrated, they still seem to be brainless.

Portrayel of elder sister-in-law was disturbing. They were indeed funny (Her chemistry with gugu was amazing one though). But, I feel uncomfortable whenever her husband doesn't take her words seriously, even a slight bit would have been good. He constantly makes fun of her emotions and ridicules her appearance at everyturn, which can be attributed to his low IQ, but it become too much sometimes. Including her family members, who often ridicules her and even her child was ridiculed.

I liked that little girl very much than FL and any other characters in the whole novel. She is strong willed and do what she likes without caring about others. She becomes singer with pure talent and had selfconfident, that she was beautiful.

FL's grandmother was a strong women, but she do lacks a lot in family managing and bit hypocrite. Divorce at everyturn was unbelievable, even to a modern person. The constant and ugly fighting between villagers every now and then was also bit too much, as you know villagers can also be descent.

I also little sympathize with MLs father. Eventhough he made some mistakes, he was really innocent at some places and I felt his retribution was excessive. Perhaps, he could have had clear split with ML family and remained with his second family.

Some characters who gave up their loved ones and chose to move on for their life was also depicted greatly. Like that girl from military and Xiao Qiao's husband at the end.

[collapse]

Despite all this, I really liked this story. These elements where which made this story more interesting. <<less

It’s a great novel. Loved the story. It’s a slice of life, so if you like that genre you’ll be happy. Though it’s slice of life style the pace isn’t too slow.

I loved the FL and the male lead. All villains get retribution and there are no unresolved plot holes. At least I didn’t see any. Loved all the family related to the FL: her immediate, in-laws, godparents, etc.

its a feel good novel.

This story can really be summed up with "Karma is a b*tch".

Everyone who did wrong had something horrific happen to them.

Spoiler

MC's mother, for example, thought she was leaving behind the dead weight of the country but ended up being given to her new husband's boss as a s*xual plaything. She then plots to have her brother (who is apparently a psychopath) kill the MC's stepmother. She ends up getting executed.

Another example is the MC's cousin's mother-in-law. The woman was controlling and extreme to the point that her son and husband had to trick her to get her away from MC's cousin. This was after she almost made her miscarry and was willing to watch the cousin crawl to the door as she thought they could have another kid if this one was a girl and it was just better to let the baby die. She ends up dying of rabies.

[collapse]

The MC is originally an average (or perhaps even slightly-below average) little kid who has been mistreated by her mother. She somehow still managed to keep a warm heart and is generally quite kind even though others have been treating her as a Calamity due to her mother and sister's actions. Through a rather odd chain of events, she ends up rescuing a Koi that turns out to be the daughter of a dragon. This Koi then rewards her with a jade pendant that only appears when the MC wants it and provides beads that are full of healing.

The ML doesn't show up for a bit but he was a young boy sent to the Farm because of his Father's death and his grandfather's former job. Right from the get go, the MC is nice to him and that helps build on the affection he has for her. Even after he leaves the country, he never forgets the MC and very adorably courts her when they are teens/twenty-years old.

Spoiler

Never explains why but the ML actually dreams about her nightly. I'm assuming this was because of the pendant/Koi as it started roughly at the same time as her getting the pendant.

[collapse]

After finding the Koi, the MC begins to live a life that's far better than what she had before. Her relatives begin to adore her (other than her mother and sister of course), the beads revitalize her father and anyone who says anything bad about her is struck by bad luck.

Spoiler

So. Much. Chicken Poop.

Like... people step on it, fall in it, have it smeared on their faces and shoved in their mouths. It is the de facto go to for the author in the Country arc of the story.

[collapse]

Other than the pendant, she doesn't really have any other bonuses but the author does write the occasional "unnatural" reaction from the MC (such as when she told two women they would have kids and then boom, pregnant). Even the two reincarnators/regressors have more of an advantage until it becomes very clear that the story isn't playing out like they remember (and they are pretty braindead).

Spoiler

One regressor is her twin who never considered the impact of herself no longer being mentally challenged (she basically lived 10 years with being "locked in" her own body). Everything she knew was all second hand information but she treated it like she had the whole future written out.

Of course, she ends up losing everything and then just fades from the story. The only "evil" one who didn't really have a completely horrid ending.

[collapse]

The romance doesn't really start until later in the book but we get to see all of the family find their perfect person. The story ends when the ML proposes to the MC on graduation (which felt like a d*ck move to all the other graduates imo).

The story is a fun romp with slight magical happenings but it is a bit too run-on with way more characters than it actually needs. <<less

The novel was great. Had some plot holes here and there. But the cast was very likable and relatable. Very much face conscious, but all Asian novels have a extreme standard of beauty, so it was to be expected.

Would have preferred to be shown more of the kids being grown up, but beggars can’t be choosers.

The novel is okay it not the best also it seem the author likes dirty sh*t or something bc almost some part of the story he/she would be making the ridiculous sh*t for some character getting sh*t on themselves. 🤷‍♀️ I just skip some part. The story seem to get boring afterward.

Overall okay read. I finished it in under a week. I do feel like it could have been shorter or at the very least some scenes could have been left out since they felt either drawn out or unnecessary. Like not everyone needs a romance especially not one out of nowhere (I’m thinking of her autistic cousin who only really liked MC). Sometimes it felt like the author forgot what they wrote and contradicted themselves. Mainly with the other twin who is both transmigrated and reborn. It barely mentions the... more>> original book and mainly references her first life with that family. I was honestly confused sometimes she was saying how loving her parents marriage they end up with a decent life but from the mother’s pov she never even like the guy, she only married him out bc he was her backup plan/ one upping her rival. The evil twin’s end was lack luster there wasn’t a final confrontation where she learns the truth and how her choices were all wrong. Just a throwaway line where she’s poor/struggling but nothing extreme.

The main girl of the story I did like her at first but her attitude toward her dad by the end was kinda mean. Like he’s just trying to parent his youngest sons and she’s scolding him for that and acting as if she the mom and like they didn’t have 2 missing children in their family at one point. Like the dad has valid reasons for his behavior, he’s trying to be better for them when he couldn’t for her. The grandma and grandpa were the best part and honestly I’d like a story about them. I liked their attitude for the most part (I know they were ignorant on some parts of MCs life but come on look at the difference between her and her twin! Of course she was suffering, they should have stepped in sooner) and supportive nature but not to the point it’ll leave their kids floundered without them once they’re gone (grandkids were still learning that). I’m surprised it referenced suiçide and took it seriously without the usual attitude towards mental health like in other Cnovels.

The colorism was a lot. Like her poor cousin was called ugly and harshly judged just because she was really dark like the only true fair skinned one is MC but that’s because of the jade bead she eats, everyone else should be somewhat tanned since they were farmers. Other negatives the cast was too big, why does need to collect so many families to dote on her? I wish it had more of MC & ML’s romance and life after marriage. They were very cute especially the stamping. The eldest branch couple could get annoying with how dumb they were, like it overdid it where it was hard to enjoy scenes with them unless it was actually funny. <<less

such a good and satisfying read I don't want it to end 😌it's been awhile since I found a book where I couldn't stopped reading until late night. I binge read it in two days and it's so worth it.

Also I hate slow pace but I couldn't complain with this one and since there aren't no boring chapter u don't even care about how long it was and just keep clicking the next chapter,

I love all the branch family especially the first branch just bc of the how funny... more>> they are. Da qiao our main character I don't need to say much, she's our lucky koi and she deserves all the love and pampering

I must say my most favorite characters in this is the Grandma and Grandpa of Qiao family. They carry the whole novel, they're the best elder figures that u could possibly imagine to the point u wish u had someone like them in ur family. I love them so much that the thought of them passing when old age is already making me cry although they're fictional. I also enjoy the dog food of all the cp especially the main characters. <<less

It was good when they were in the village, but when they get to the town and become rich, I don't know, but I always feel that it's not that good, not as good as before, and I somehow felt bored, but I continue.

But when the scen where the 2nd branch children start lecture their father and repair him in front other in a public place, this lost me, and whatever happen after didn't make it better.

You know, even now, in this age, it's not acceptable that children yell or... more>> talk to their parents in that tone and way in china, so how could it be acceptable in 80's, and even become something that made those who watch this feel that this family is "harmony" and that this children is so good and rightness? How could that be?! And the female lead lecture her father sternessly in front of others and didn''t leve any face for her father and let her other brothers do the same and they all didn't feel they did anything wrong. <<less

  1. This. Novel is full of dramas, but I like it. Because the way author written it very well. Everything almost comes together. I like the whole wrap up from families to the endings of the villains. Most of them were clich tropes, but it very well suited for the plots. There's endless gossips and jealousy, small minded people and alot of tragedies, as so to reflects the situation at that time. The big 1st half backstory mostly how the situation on those days and how the children grows up and the adults lives and struggles. Later is more of their teenage years growing up and fall in love and life happens) Even our FL is the protagonist, I feel grandma is the main cast, the second were the 1st branch. Lol. Grandma here rocks!Super strong and forward thinking, grandpa is sweet. Their 1st son (refers in 1st branch) were hilarious with his "not so kind" but not too bad wife. Their family's interaction were very funny.

FL got a special cheat, even its not too op, but she got super luck and life saving beads. This author didn't elaborate on later, and then there won't be too many supernatural stuffs.

So for most I love grandma, then the 1st branch as their family got more interesting development and comic relief. FL here is more to being beautiful and amazing, ML doting and doting. Anyway it's a good read. Thank you.

I give it a 4-star rating. Not bad. Easy reading, but a bit long for the genre and the storyline. The translation was not that great, lots of misspells and misuse of words or even use of non words (towards the later chapters, my brain would automatically supplement another word instead of “jollily” 😊), but it’s still legible.

The story was totally a Mary Sue where the FL halo was shining brilliantly; as someone commented if you read it being fully aware that it’s a work of fiction, it’s a fun... more>> read. You’ll root for the good guys and hate on the bad guys. The good guys and the villains were clearly presented and marked as such. I'm rating this a 5 to balance out the ratings. I have seen much worse than this story at 4+ and this one should defs be more than 3.9 (at the time of writing this) especially when lots of ppl take lower than 4 stars as their cut off for not reading.

If you like going back to the past (60s-90s) and not too much drama, this is the story for you! You get a mix of the entire family, I feel it is much more complete than a lot of... more>> brainless romance stories. This is more about family than anything, lots of cute babies! 🥰🥰 I like the childcare without the intrusive but s*upid romance that isn't well written with a bunch of misunderstandings. These children are loved!

Spoiler

And in the midst of all the career building, childcare and stuff, there is the first branch couple xD at times annoying but soooo damn funny 😂 at the end of the book I can say they had such a normal dramatic type of life. In contrast to the heartwarming scenes of the rest of the family they had minor bad luck and embarrassments while still living a great and fulfilling life 😂

Not reccing this. The depiction of ab*se, neurodivergence -specifically autism- is abiyssimal, tbo unless u just need some brain killing to drag on for a few days bcs u don't wanna commit to annything due to exams, it's not the worst, but if you can't stand victim blaming in abusive situations and downplaying everything, skip this. The plot holes are plenty, the timeline is all over the place, it tries to paint itself as this like, women can do it too sort of mssging but it's extremely vicious to women... more>> who are flagged as impure in motive, and thus no matter what is said about or done to them it's all fine and good and well deserved, everything hinges on their marriage but if they try to make the first move they're obvi twisted in some way, and if they ask for help they're taking advantage, includes children in this category, and the 2 biggest villains in this are obviously unwell

For a dog blood drama, it wasn't all that frustrating. Love the grandparents! #Lifegoals The elder uncle and his shrewish wife are a great comedic relief and truly emphasizes "A lid for every pot." If not for his blunt honesty, the first aunt could had caused alot more drama. Just for sheer hilarity they rank right after the grandparents for being my favorite couples in the story. To be honest, I was a little put off by the abnormal amount of praises the author had for the MC, her beauty,... more>> her brains, her talents, and how every single child loved her the most, but then again, that's the life of a Mary Sue. ┐ (˘_˘) ┌ I was also a little off putted by how every single antagonists of the MC and her family were conveniently killed off or met with misfortune. I'm not saying the story is bad (since I found it interesting enough to finish MTL-ing it) I'm just saying that this is a story where I found the side couples more interesting than the main and though I wouldn't reread it, I don't regret the time I used reading it in the first place. 1. summarized review: the beginning of the story is better, imo. It is funnier and interesting as things improve for MC and the qiao's over time. Eventually, it gets a bit boring and the drama is all one sided in a bland way.

once everyone begins to age and the kids grow up, things are way better (financially/personally) than the beginning of the story but the ill intentioned cannon fodders are easily dealt with from a mile away.

that is where the story fell short. Rinse and repeat cannon fodders.

i don't like how there aren't any side stories for MC and ML after they're married (w/ children or anything) and the story honestly dragged a bit. But I was still satisfied and have all the qiao family members memorized at this point.

i would recommend it for slice of life goodness and simplicity in the 70s/80s. Romance for mc+ML was cute and realistic too!

    4.3/5

    detailed review:

    pros:

    Spoiler

    qiao

xiu zhi is a perfect matriarch with her hilarious inhuman strength adding the right amount of comedy as well as her endless affection for her grandchildren. She lets her children/grandchildren make their own choices for better or worse.

xue chuan let's his wife run the show. King! He just loves her.

QXZ's forward thinking towards remarriage/divorce is refreshing

the grandchildren (MC included) aren't annoying and they learn! (Though some are not as intelligent as the others for comic relief)

each sibling (Qiao 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th) gets their time to shine (or life improvement) which is nice to see everyone included in the blessings

each child in mc's generation has their own type of success/romance

    lots of face slapping

MC and ML are a gradual friendship -> courtship in a realistic way. When the romance kicks in, it is sweet and awkward all the same

    [collapse]

    cons:

    Spoiler

way too many characters. I forgot who 5th qiao's ex wives were until they mentioned qiao dongwan. I really had a hard time when someone from YEARS or an arc or two ago is suddenly mentioned like who cares?? It seemed like the author forgot to tie up the loose end and would bring up said cannon fodder to make sure we knew their ending wasn't good.

eldest qiao's wife was way too annoying in the beginning honestly. She was still pretty annoying when the story ended. Sure, in this life she was cured, but considering how much of a shrew she was, I expected them to divorce.

didn't like how they made xiao dongyun so ugly. Couldn't she be plain or at least decent looking like her older sisters?? She even got famous for her voice but they made her so ugly

hated the amount of divorces for fifth qiao

lack of side stories for mc/ml, donghe, dongwan and so on

mc's bio mom was just k*lled like that. Lol. Crazy. And her twin sister didn't deserve an ending like that considering she just wanted to live nicely and not as someone mentally impaired in her second life

didn't like author saying "but that's a story for a different time" then why mention it?

tags are inaccurate. There should definitely be a pregnancy tag or something there were like 8 pregnancies.

casually swiped over stillbirth/ab*rtion and m*rder like nothing. Lol maybe that's the charm of the story??

definitely could've needed less chapters on mundane arcs (MC preteen years)

some explanations/plot points were so long winded in detail it seemed like the author should've just written it out (aka the other daughter being switched at birth was way too complex in mtl with all the names and such)

ended so soon considering they gave us 70 chapters of MC from age 8 to 21 and 100 chapters on MC from 6 to 8. Author couldn't give us a wedding or epilogue?

    [collapse]

although I have a lot of grievances and unanswered questions, I genuinely enjoyed the story. It's funny, mostly simple and family oriented. Everyone has a good ending because of mc's being a naive, kind child to a supernatural fish that blesses her and all who have positive association.

you may need to take a break or two when reading but you won't regret reading this!

The story is good... It's basically a slice of life story with some face slapping. I love how the irritating cannon fodders immediately gets their just desserts. It's really quite amusing.

MC has a golden finger and she used it wisely. MC has the right amount of Mary Sue-ish halo that makes it quite tolerable and not disgusting.

ML is also good.

But the characters that I love most here are her grandparents. So cool~ #thuglife

Ending is ok but too abrupt.
