Ke Su was playing a single-player game called Ancient God Simulator and successfully cleared the game, becoming the final Ancient God. One day, he suddenly realized that he had truly transformed into an unspeakable Ancient God and had been summoned by a group of unknown creatures.

This is the story of someone who, after becoming an evil god, finds himself constantly and bewilderingly summoned by various planes, leaving behind eerie legends of godly terror in countless small worlds.

Reading Guide:

An invincible, behind-the-scenes, power fantasy with massive plot armor, purely for enjoyment.

The story focuses on the main plot, with only one-sided romantic interests directed at the protagonist.

The background contains elements inspired by Lovecraftian lore, but with numerous personal interpretations and adjustments for story development and ease of understanding. The original flavor of the Lovecraftian mythos may be significantly altered; readers who mind this should proceed with caution.

To make a proper judgement on this novel, you NEED to read till the end (or atleast till the second half of the novel). The first half of the novel will reveal absolutely no details on the real situation and might seem like a god upgrade novel of sorts, which it is not. The concept is good and the way the whole thing was portrayed was great.

The mantra of this entire novel is "play". My personal suggestion will be to ignore the spoiler if you don't want the entire story... more>> to be spoiled
Spoiler

Let me make this clear and seriously, this is the biggest spoiler. The whole ancient god simulator game is not actually a game. And the MC is not a god who is being awakened or revived. He is THE GOD. The whole simulator is god's play. Anything that has happened, is happening or will happen is merely for his amusement. The simulator game merely judges whether he is dreaming or not. The MC is convinced that he is leading a normal life in his dreams. Hence, the simulator by portraying abnormalities as a game ensures the MC's wish for a normal life. Or else, he would come to terms with reality and might wake up. And waking the MC up is spelling the doom for the universe.

[collapse]

This follows Cthulhu mythos where God is supreme and he doesn't care about insignificant beings. He does as he pleases and he harbours no appreciation or malice for anyone. It is these insignificant beings that try to give their own colour to his actions.

So, my advice would be to read the novel while keeping this in mind. Because even reality will bend itself for the amusement of god. This might sound pretty cryptic but if I say anything more, the story will be completely spoiled (if you have not read the spoiler that is).

But overall, I loved the apocalyptic and horrifying ambience of the story. Perhaps in the entire novel, it is only the MC who has no idea on what is going on (for spoiler reasons). It is similar to "I am not the demon god's lackey" in that they are not aware of their own strangeness but that ignorance, in itself makes them more terrifying in the eyes of others. MC here though, is suspected much later and he spends the entire duration of the novel unaware of the abnormalities. <<less

Ancient God Simulator starts with an interesting premise: Ke Su, after clearing a game, becomes an ancient god summoned by mysterious creatures across various worlds. However, the execution falters, primarily due to the protagonist’s lack of development.

Ke Su’s indifferent, impassive behavior makes little sense, especially given his background as a normal human in the modern world. The novel attempts to explain this by suggesting his "god mode" experiences feel like dreams, but this falls apart in moments like the subway scene, where he casually ignores a horrific situation in which... more>> heads explode around him. Despite this extreme event, he shows no reaction, even though he’s supposedly still transitioning into his ancient god form. Unlike other works where the protagonist evolves gradually, Ke Su’s sudden detachment feels forced and robs the story of emotional depth.

While the plot delivers on overpowered, behind-the-scenes action, the lack of meaningful character growth and diluted Lovecraftian elements make it less engaging. It may appeal to readers who enjoy pure power fantasies, but for those seeking any semblance of deeper character progression, it’s a letdown. <<less
