[His iron cavalry kicked up wild gales, and his fleet of ships wove an unbreakable net.

His power shook the four seas, he was the ruler of the world]

Zhu Chi, who didn’t want to die, made a deal with the devil in exchange for the chance to survive in another world. The new body was young, full of vitality, and full of life.

Zhu Chi finally escaped from the smell of the hospital ward’s antiseptic wipes, and he smiled with joy.

Soon, after accepting the new identity, the smile on Zhu Chi’s face gradually disappeared.

He, wearing a royal robe and a crown, ruled over thirty-six states and was the only Emperor in the Western Continent.

He, aggressively levied exorbitant taxes, arbitrarily conquering neighboring lands, using gold to build a carriage, scorning the divine power and humiliating the church.

——He was a tyrant.

The devil was indeed the devil, treacherous, cunning, and sinister.

Now, Zhu Chi, who had recovered his health, had to face all of the hatred and animosity:

1, the nobility deprived of their titles

2, the cardinals who were deliberately suppressed

3, the leaders of the chamber of commerce whose wealth and property were seized

4, the……

As well as: face an assassination seven days later.

If still according to the script, he would be exiled in four months, and then hanged in front of the Mohn Tower.

Zhu Chi: Splendid.

He rolled up his sleeves leisurely and smiled: What about the tyrant? If I want to, this tyrant can also rule the earth.

[I want the Rose King’s flag to fly across the mainland, I want the glory that will be like a sun that will never set, I want wherever the golden carriage passes to receive allegiances from all the people.

Because I am——

I finally finished it and seriously I didn't focus the romance part. It's a gem, honestly and applause to the author for giving effort on making this novel.

While reading this makes me really questioned about the religion. I agree on the King's pov, and I don't want to state here since maybe it will put hatred.

Anyways, 5/5!

Okay so i’m not very good at writing reviews or anything but this novel is so good. The characters and the world building are very interesting and ofc our MC is the most complex of all! I look forward to more chapters :) thanks to the translator

It's simply a beautiful read. The way the author portrayed the monarch, the knights, the gods and the devil is refreshing, almost as if they compiled the reality in a sober tale.

There's nil romance but the novel is romantic enough (pretty exciting for fantasizing the bits not there). The author has given life to the fantasy characters and I would like to say it's one of the best novels I have ever read.

If someone wants to read it, I would like to say go for it. It has this concept... more>> which seems would last for too long to maintain our interest but the novel is only 180 chapters long unlike the ones with around 500/1000 chapters. <<less

This book is a gem

Its not your atypical fight between good and evil

It's a fight between two kings, the gods are just their chess pieces

... more>> It's great, thrilling, the plot is just everything

The realities are put out their perfectly, cruelty of a monarch hides his good deeds

Honestly this is one of the best books on NU

But warning

Even though this is labeled as shounen ai

There were never any explicit confirmation of them having a relationship

There were two chaste kiss scenes in the main story.

I think the extras might have confirmed it

But the devil is definitely obsessed with the King and the king is definitely tied to the devil

So if you come looking for romance this ain't it

Either way go check out this book, The translators are awesome over by NYXVs translations

But if your impatient

It's a good mtl <<less

Plot Quality:4/5

Entertainment Value: 5/5

A sweeping, fast-paced story about a King who'll do everything to defend his kingdom—including fighting God. Romance is barely there, but the MC and the ML do have a fun dynamic even before they start kissing.

MC's Childhood

Spoiler

I wish we got more moments between the MC and his family, even if it's just flashbacks to his few lucid childhood moments. Sadly, due to the multiple rebellions and wars the MC's kingdom faces, he and his relatives are too busy to talk much about personal matters and are sometimes literally on different sides of the country.

MC & ML

Spoiler

Their romance happens in the background, since this book is first and foremost a war epic. However, they actually have a long past together. They're the reason the gods and hell are asleep: thousands of years ago, the MC made a deal with the ML so that he could establish his own kingdom and free humanity from the control of higher creatures (gods, dragons, etc.).

[collapse]

If you only want to read a lighthearted book, this isn't the thing for you.

Not OP

Spoiler

Of course, the MC and ML wins. HOWEVER, the MC loses a lot in the process. He has to make multiple difficult choices and sacrifice the people he cares about. The ultimate villain is smart and goes toe to toe with the MC.

The battles in this story are not just fought with soldiers, but also with craftsmen, historians, astrologers, and other skilled people. Both the villain and MC have access to countless historical records that allow them to figure out bits of each other's plans and powers. They also have astrologers who can somewhat predict the future (it's complicated, their powers are also not OP). However, it is ultimately up to the villain and MC's own brains to predict what the other would do and strategize accordingly.

The MC, in particular, gains equal footing with the villain despite having far fewer soldiers because of the new weapons he develops by supporting "heretical" and "crazy" scientists and witches. He sincerely believes that humanity should be masters of their own fate and will not hesitate to use people no matter who they are.

[collapse]

Cruelty

Spoiler

The ML is literally a devil so he actively disdains humanity except for the MC, who he considers special.

When I say the MC will do everything for his kingdom, I meant Kingdom. He will never hurt his people for his own sake, but his vision is on the long-term progress and survival of his country. He won't hesitate to kill disobedient subjects (noble or commoner) if they get in the way of his reforms or the greater good. When he put a port blockade because the black plague popped up in neighboring countries, he executed everyone who tried to sail anyway. When his city became obviously indefensible since the enemy army was much larger + city was on flat ground, the MC ordered the army to abandon the locals and move to a much easier to defend mountain fortress. The reason was simple: if the army died, the whole country would fall. Sacrificing a portion of the country is better than having the entire thing be sacked.

These choices are cruel but crucial to the MC's victories. As his uncle says, the King cannot be chivalrous or kind. He must be the King. He must think of the Kingdom as a whole. For the sake of the Kingdom, anyone and anything could be sacrificed.

I really wanted to finish this because I enjoyed the first 50 or so chapters, but by around chapter 80 or so I kept finding my attention drifting. The plot just doesn't move fast enough for me and a lot of scenes are just... irrelevant. Unnecessary exposition. (like another reviewer mentioned: filler). There are a few chapters where it is interesting and exciting but then they're followed by chapters that are unbearably boring and the cycle repeats.

Spoiler

I know the author is trying to build up to the ultimate showdown between the Monarchy and Theocracy, but it is being dragged out so much that I don't really want to waste my time waiting for the conclusion anymore. The actual Angel vs Devil fight was also anti-climatic and disappointing.

[collapse]

The ML is so underused even though he's The Devil which means he's a smooth talking swindler; he's what I imagined Hua Cheng from TGCF would be like if he's more unscrupulous. They even have the same butterfly motif.

There is also NO development whatsoever between MC and ML even after 100+ chapters, let alone any romance between them after this long. I wouldn't have minded waiting if the main plot itself can keep me engaged but at this point it feels like a chore for me to keep going. <<less

This novel is soooooo AMAZING. For those who read the novel for romance, hate to break it to you but there’s little to no romance. There’s only wars and conflicts between countries.

this novel made me cry and I had to hold back my tears so hard cause I’m at school. The MC is so badass and smart.

It was a very enjoyable read! The world building is very interesting and unique with fantasy elements such as gods and hell.

Although it focuses more on politics and wars rather than romance, I still really like how the relationship between MC and ML was portrayed and I think this (minimal) degree of attention to the romance department actually suits the vibe of this story and their relationship and personality in general. Plus the extras did a good job at showing them as a couple (I would like more though 😭)... more>>

Although I'm often confused with the battle situations (esp the final battle) the author did a really good job at making the scenes appear epic as hell, definitely one of my favourite things in this novel. <<less
