Yin Bai once thought that Xiao Nian truly loved her. So, she graciously provided her with the best resources, elevating her to a revered position.

After achieving fame and success, Xiao Nian, in the name of true love, unceremoniously kicked her aside.

Yin Bai became the most ridiculed patron in the entertainment industry. On the night when Xiao Nian received the Best Actress award, she publicly declared her lifelong love in front of Yin Bai, infuriating her. She stormed off to the parking lot, where she took her anger out on her car with a cane, creating a resounding cacophony.

Coincidentally, this awkward scene was witnessed by Xiao Nian’s arch-rival, Zuo Jing You.

Yin Bai promptly put away the cane, cleared her throat, adjusted her sleeves, and casually greeted her, “Long time no see, Miss Zuo. The weather today is quite pleasant, isn’t it?”

Zuo Jing You remained calm and composed, saying, “Ms. Yin, please rest assured, I didn’t see anything.”

After saying this, Zuo Jing You walked past Yin Bai, leaving her so infuriated that she nearly snapped her cane that evening.

A few days later, Yin Bai encountered Zuo Jing You and another person having an argument in the hospital corridor. The man on the other side, with red eyes, uttered a memorable line, “You only lost a husband who didn’t love you, but he lost genuine love!”

Yin Bai paused, locking eyes with Zuo Jing You’s profound gaze. She then sympathetically mouthed, “I didn’t hear anything…”

Yin Bai: I thought I was the little prince who tamed the rose. In the end, I realized I wasn’t. I was just a little rose with four thorns who thought I could do as I pleased.

Zuo Jing You: I used to think that in love, as long as I did well enough, it would be sufficient. But love isn’t that simple; it’s not enough for just one person to do well.

So this time, I will learn to love you properly.

This review is being completely rewritten because the translator has finished the main story and I feel like this needs updated.

I had a comment here about the translator's website having issues but I've decided to remove this as things seem to have improved. Little Panda is a good translator and encountering the problems I did in the past was upsetting, probably for both me and the translator. I hope things go smoothly for them in the future as it would be a shame to lose a good translator like them.

On... more>> to the review!

In my previous review I said that it's rare (read: non-existent) for a Baihe story about celebrities to not have toxic relationships and needless drama (you have to have some drama for a story to be interesting). This story truly doesn't have that. It's filled with adults handling problems like mature adults. Almost everyone addresses issues with communication and healthy resolutions to conflict. I was honestly surprised, even with Yin Bai's previous love interest Xiao Nian. The people in this story address things maturely and intelligently. There's no cartoonishly ridiculous drama from any cartoonishly villainous characters. The people act like people with realistic motivations and desires. No drama for the sake of drama here.

The characters are what bring this together really though. Yin Bai is childish and endearing, with a naive and wonderfully playful personality. She becomes friends with Zou Jing You's child Tongtong before any relationship develops between our two leads. And her friendship is adorable and cute. Yin Bai is just a precocious and immature (in a good way) kid at heart... until it comes to her desires for ZJY obviously. When I read the synopsis and then the first chapter I was honestly worried that YB would be a domineering and controlling CEO type, as is often seen in some of these stories. She's not that way at all, and her past circumstances with Xiao Nian are explained well.

Originally I felt that ZJY was a flat character, but she comes into her own later in the story. She's very career oriented but also incredibly passionate when it comes to love. The way she cares for YB is very sweet.
Spoiler

ZJY also falls in love first!

[collapse]

Tongtong is treated as a maturing kid who is dealing with her parents divorce and her newfound friendship with the neighboring "fairy sister" YB. She's wonderfully cute and the way the MC interacts with her helps solidify that childish personality.

Finally, there's a lot of references to the book "The Little Prince" which is one of my favorite children's books. If you haven't read it I highly recommend it. It's profound and a good read even for adults.

I hope everyone enjoys this as much as I did! <<less

To build up on the synopsis of this novel, this story is about 2 people who learn to move on from their previous relationship. These two don't exactly see the best side of the other upon first meeting, the first was Yin Bai's heart being broken that she could only be destructive once she was alone. The second was Zuo Jingyou who was betrayed and could only be left flabbergasted upon meeting her ex-husband again. In both instances they have given the other their handkerchief to comfort the other.

Their connection... more>> became a solid foundation after finding out one of Yin Bai's little friends is the child of Zuo Jingyou and then these two learn to interact with each other as the story goes on, of course this is not after Yin Bai's destructive heartbreak but a little more down the line as these two move forward to a more healthy dynamic with each other than their previous relationships.

The side character, gods I love them, Zhang Yu especially with her interactions with her boss (Yin Bai). They're really playful with each other and I love it. Speaking of playful the children and Yin Bai... Omg they're such gems all little shits with each other whilst with Zuo Jingyou (I mean this with affection). <<less

Character development is out of this world. The way their relationship evolves so many times, the love they have for each other is truly breathe taking and sometime I also want to be a part of love like this.

Spoiler

Friendships are great, but friendships that evolve into love and care for each other is even better. I never image that enemies to friends to lovers would do it for me. The character development in our MC is truly heart-warming. Our FL is always so patient with her, and shows us how navigating conversations are not easy but communicating is always what you should do. The Author shows us how the MC reflects on her path of love, and for me I think just like the MC I want to always learn to be a better person each and everyday for the person I love. MC eventually learns to trust her partner and the author does a good job in showing her change.

1 of my favourite books to read, I hope to come back sometime and reread their story all over again just like I did the first time. Thank you for writing this great piece of work author <3 <<less

This story has excellent pacing, storytelling, the characters are emotionally mature (a rarity in many wlw Chinese novels, unfortunately) and I love how the author doesn't push aside the fact that both of the main characters had been in a relationship before they got together. None of that "actually this character is pure despite seeing other people for years" nonsense or having no reference whatsoever to their past intimate lives. They talked about it a little and moved on, as they should which shouldn't be surprising but the bar has... more>> been very low, sadly.

The author mostly show rather than telling, which makes it more interesting to understand some of the characters' thoughts and emotions. I'll probably talk a bit more about this below, when talking about my favourite character.

Also love "The Little Prince" reference; one of my favourite books ever and I melt everytime the references pop up.
Spoiler

Xiao Nan's reference to it during her life really got me good, ngl.

[collapse]

If I have any criticisms about this novel, it'd be about how Zuo Jinyou's kid almost disappeared after they got together. And that Yin Bai can act a little too immature at times (despite being emotionally mature - it's mostly fine since she's cute).

My favourite character in this novel is surprisingly Xiao Nan. From the beginning, she's been a very polarising character. On one side, she breaks Yin Bai's heart (unforgivable) but on the other side, she has quite valid reasons to do so which you will see in the later parts of the story. Ultimately, she's just another human, trying her best and burdened with her mistakes just like the rest of us. Maybe we won't follow her path or make the same decisions she makes but her character feels more grounded to me.

Spoiler

The author hinted several times throughout the story that Xiao Nan was in love with Yin Bai but their relationship was doomed from the very start due to the way it began, the power imbalance and honestly, with how cowardly Xiao Nan was being (which she herself admitted). She didn't feel like she could protect Yin Bai's pure heart and felt like Yin Bai deserved someone better which is valid but baby girl 🙁 Yin Bai really did love you despite her terrible way of showing it. Her live near the end of the story and Jinyou's response to it got me emotional though.

[collapse]

To finish off this review, I would like to recommend a song that came on shuffle as I was reading the extras of this story. It's called "If It's Love" by Train. Suits them to a T.

Many thanks to the translator LP! They're always amazing in their translation and receptive to feedback on the ads on their site. It can be understandably a little bit annoying but hey, it's a little way to support our hardworking translators ☺️ <<less

8/10 (Strong but not top tier)

A work with a very misleading title and description. The exterior makes it sound like a s*um faceslapping story, but in actuality relationships are either on the more nuanced side or simply not focused on. Overall probably best classified as a healing and self-improvement plot, and mostly accomplishes this well aside from some elements that could've been better shown and some out-of-step feeling minor throwaway subplots. Very focused on the main couple, without any substantial subplots, which is mostly fine but does leave some... more>> potentially interesting perspectives unexplored. However, this arguably matches with the themes of the work.

The strongest aspect of this work is probably the evolving perspective of the FL, Yin Bai. Yin Bai has a very innocent, childish personality, in a different way from the classic younger sister trope or the common maniac pixie girl trolling archetype. While I wouldn't consider side characters to be a strong point in this story, the personality plays well and is fun to read with when interacting with both the romantic interest, Zuo Jingyou, as well as the various side characters. Seeing her grow out of the pain of ending her former contractual relationship with Xiao Nian as well as how being with Zuo Jingyou as well as lessons learned from her former love helps her break out of her shell is what the story leaves as the most lasting impression.

Spoiler

However, there were parts of this that could've been better communicated. We never really got to experience the inexperienced in love and overly obsessive Yin Bai that made all those mistakes with Xiao Nian. We were told about some of the errors she committed, but I still feel that more could've been done to make us feel the transition. The reason for this is that Yin Bai had already learned and changed before the story began and simply had a hard time breaking through the shell she created to communicate it with Xiao Nian, but regardless I feel that the impact of this plot arc would've been stronger if we had somehow gotten to know the former Yin Bai better. Similarly, we don't quite get enough of Yin Bai's outer shell to really feel her nature of having a very cold but thin outer shell hiding a very childish and innocent interior. We mostly feel the contrast through other characters reacting to how she is after she breaks through her shell, very notably with Xiao Nian's perspective, but I would have preferred to have this backed up through events rather than effectively second-hand information.

While side characters were not really focused on, Xiao Nian, for how little screentime she gets, is done very well I think. The glimpses we get of the past relationship showed her character and thoughts at the time very well since unlike Yin Bai it's fine for us to only get a partial understanding of her. The fact that we never really interacted much with her and Lu Qing also fits well with the story, as moving on from the past is a major theme of the work.

An micro-arc that I think could've been reworked to better suit the story, on the other hand, is that of Zuo Jingyou's former love, He Zhiwen. Considering how nuanced the story is with Xiao Nian and Yin Bai missing each other due to being the wrong people for each other at the wrong time, and how nobody is really at fault, He Zhiwen feels somewhat comically assholish. It's not unrealistic or an unworkable arc, but it feels like the wrong type of arc for this story. Somewhat related is that we never really got to feel Zuo Jingyou as He Zhiwen's ex-wife. We really only got a single scene that established that Zuo Jingyou ever actually liked He Zhiwen. It feels slightly odd that we never got Zuo Jingyou expressing her feelings in a similar way to Yin Bai as the two grew closer but before romance sparked, but it's not a huge deal or completely unreasonable, since it's implied this is also just part of her personality.

Worth pointing out is that Extra 3 helps mitigate some of these issues. We get to see a lot more of Yin Bai's prickly side when she has her shell up, and seeing how events happen differently from what we know in the past helps to make the contrast between the former Yin Bai and the Yin Bai influenced by Zuo Jingyou a lot more apparent.

Enjoyable novel with not too much on it. Characters are likeable and the cast is not too big.

Only weird thing was the final arc

Spoiler

So ZjY rejects to act in a movie made by the wife of YB ex because it would upset her but then wants to act in a same s*x movie with the ex. Weird asf, you could just act in both then or reject both.

[collapse]

That was the only time I felt that the characters acted a bit weird just for plot reasons.
