Jiang Dao died extremely heroically in the apocalyptic world war. He never thought that he would have a chance to open his eyes again.

He traveled through, into a danmei book he had read, and became a vicious villain in the book.

Jiang Dao thought to himself: “After more than ten years of fighting for my life in the last days, I’m tired, so what am I fighting for? It’s better to be a vase. Use my face to finish the brokerage contract, and then find a corner in the world with beautiful scenery and live a peaceful life of growing vegetables, cooking, and raising cats and dogs…”

So, he returned the role that the original owner had snatched from the protagonist shou on the spot.

Unexpectedly, in the variety show that started shooting the next day, Jiang Dao performed a shoulder toss and threw the current number one kung fu actor, Chu Yinlong, to the ground.

Chu Yinlong: Boy, you have successfully caught my attention. My new movie, the villain, can fight, you come.

Jiang Dao: …Sorry, I’m just a vase.

————

In a later interview.

A reporter asked Chu Yinlong: “How would you rate your perfect partner, Mr. Jiang Dao?”

Chu Yinlong replied: “A vase.”

Reporter: “How can a kung fu superstar as famous as him be a vase?”

Chu Yinlong: “Diamond vase. Precious, beautiful, hard enough.”

Honestly this novel is cute, its a pretty entertaining past time but it wasn’t ground breaking or anything like that by any means. I think the best thing it has going for it is that the author actually does something with the “I came from an apocalypse setting” (albeit not very accurately in terms of how the ptsd effects him) but still, I appreciate the effort.

I just didn’t feel compelled to finish this, but if you’re looking for something relatively cute, a confident MC and an entertainment Bl, id give... more>> this a try. Just keep in mind its not ground breaking. <<less

The book is quite alright. In the category of books with an entertainment theme, I would say it's average. It wasn't particularly funny, but it was entertaining enough for in between. The main character comes from a dystopian world and now uses his knowledge for his characters in show business. Of course, he always does everything perfectly and, without much effort, is better than everyone else. Whether that's a good thing is hard to say — I think it's important that characters also have weaknesses that actually impact the story.

Had my laugh throughout the story. This one is really good and I like the concept where the MC is from apocalyptic world transmigrated into a modern world book.

MC's characterization also is realistic enough and the ML is not annoying. There is no annoying antagonist and everything is immediately solved, so you may find the the latter story slightly monotonous due to lack of conflict, but the variety show where the MC is casted make up for that

Probably the only flaw is the last chapter, the award is not realistic... more>> enough. The first half of the novel is well thought while the latter is not much engaging.

Fortunately the extra ch's are so good! ML also fulfilled the MC's desired life at the end💕 <<less

The star of this novel is definitely the main character, Jiang Dao. He’s just so... straightforward, direct, calm, and strong! His new physical body is weak but he trains hard to regain his original strength; not to mention that his original skills are still there (though sometimes he does things and realises that this new body is too weak to follow through entirely!)

Some more things I liked:

- how this was focused on the action tv/film creation and both MC and ML star in movies/shows that are about physical action

-... more>> and how the original protagonist shou and original protagonist gong are great people! And they become friends!

When reading, I felt it was a refreshing, and yes comedic, take on the usual transmigration-into-the-entertainment-industry

  • chtr: 8/10
  • setting :7/10
  • storyline: 7/10
  • overall: 6/10 <ill explain why below>
  • comments: tbh I really enjoyed the story BUTTT like I get the MC transmigrated in but does he reallllyyy need to star in every movie the ML is in? Its very unrealistic I mean I get they be in the same studio but like its very forced the MC deserves to get developed on their own too not everything need to follow ML thats why the score which I originally planned to give which was an 8 dropped to that actually I wanted to give a 6 tbh
  • MC = transmigrated, ex-soldier frm apocalypse, very talented in martial arts extreme sports and really anything, tough, scary, sweet, cute, has a very contradicting personality cos of his old life
  • ML = some rando chtr in novel, vetern in entertainment circle, sweet, doting to MC, talented, insecure
  • MC & ML = sweet, throw dog food everywhere, cute, chaotic, funny
  • overall das all jus a bit disappointed

Giving it 3 stars for now.

The reason being that the author is making MC and ML act scenes way too sticky for people who just met. It feels like a kid playing with dolls saying "now kiss". Those interactions are too forced and feel unnatural.

Besides that, the story is entertaining, but forced by the world sticky scenes really annoy me.

It's nice.

It started off well. However, I got bored along the way. I do think the novel would have been perfect to round up in around 80 chapters.

Won't good deep about the author ignoring the PTSD issue the MC had which can only be solved when the ML is around, lol. Till when will that be sufficient?

Spoiler

Also, both of them appearing in every show/movie piece together is a kinda redundant and boring.

[collapse]

And personally, narration of what they're filming didn't appease to me. Wasn't really interested in them and it made the book longer too.

I fw with the MC, he's the most interesting but as the story progress, his character waters down. It's understandable tho, he fell in love and resolved his emotional issues. It's good.

However, the ML... I didn't really connect with him from the beginning. More of him was unraveling in the mid part too but still... It seems as though the author was trying to portray him in different personalities, what he's not. I don't know how to describe it but it's there. So I don't feel a character connection with him.

The translation is good and I'd like to finish it. But there's a lesser probability that I'll continue it later on because I was impatient getting to this point 😅

Good book. Slow burn but good romance 👍 and the main couple are the book focus. <<less

Aw, this was great. I wasn't expecting too much, but it turned out to be such as surprising 5/5. All the characters here feel like real people, especially the MC and ML. And I love that the MC's background isn't just thrown around, but actually makes consistent impact on the MC's character development and the plot. I feel like my biggest 'this is a gem' moment was when the ML said 'I am your lover, not your owner, I don't control you' to the MC. Maybe more of a 3.5, the first half was hard for me to get through. The 2nd half, was a bit better.

At first I didn't understand hybridiris' review about the authors inconsistent emotions and then around chapter 50 or so I understood. The story is first set up light hearted, but will have random bouts of deep emotions and delves into PTSD. I think if the author either explored the MC's emotional transitions better, or kept it light hearted throughout, it would have been a more cohesive story. If the... more>> author wrote this in a more serious drama like tone, it could have been so much more and I usually do not like serious drama stories.

The MC is only average to me. I do understand how others love this MC as he is different than most, but I felt his character was too selfish at the beginning, which could have been better explained if this novel had taken a more serious tone. I did like him more towards the end and I do love how *cough* proactive he is. I wish we got more backstory of his life before such as age. ML is good. He is still the typical, jealous of everything, never had a relationship, kind of lofty type of ML, but he had a bit more personality than most. He does recognize his jealously and doesn't hold back the MC from acting jobs that have romance with woman in it.

I liked how the movies MC stars in aren't all literary films with no romance. I also really liked that the original MC/ML weren't bad guys, they don't have much presence, but it was refreshing that they weren't turned into villians. The parts with MC's original family were meh, not really sure how it fit in the story, goes back to the author's weird pacing I guess.

Also was not a fan of the multiple chapters dedicated to the grey wolf movie script, felt like it was more the focus for 20 chapters, than the actual story.

The 2 extra chapters are a must. The one with the original MC and original ML was good
Spoiler

but I was hoping MC would have told him about his past

[collapse]

All in all it's not a bad read but I feel like it could have been so much more. I love light hearted comedies, but I think this could have been a great character driven, emotional drama type of novel. <<less

This was so so lovely. I had such a soft spot for Jiang Dao, his trauma/background and his character was so interesting to follow..I just wanted to see him achieve happiness. I also thought the apocolyptic background was unique, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a recently apocolyptic setting but a wasteland that he was born into and we're able to see the consequences of that even when he transmigrates into a "safe" world. His dynamic with the ML Chu Yinlong was so fun also, they suit each other very much... more>> and I loved their interactions. I loved the entertainment setting too- my only qualm is that I wish we saw more of the audience reaction but that's just a personal thing.

3 to 4 stars. The writer had some good ideas but unfortunately didn't follow through. There were some interesting parts where the MC with his Apocalypse PST had to learn to live in this peaceful world and how to cope with his old personality. There were foreshadowing but in the end left dangling. I feel like the writer missed out big.

While the interactions between MC and ML were good, it was also kind of flat. I feel like there were points missing. MC never told ML the truth about... more>> his transmigrated self. The ML is kind of insecure about this relationship.

Should you read it? Well it is OK and better than a lot other novels but it lacks depth and the storyline is flat. The people though are nice. <<less

The story progressed very well. No problem with the orignal protagonist. There is retribution against the malicious attacks. Both MC and ML are sensible and likable. They are the level headed, common sense type of people.

There is nothing to dislike. Recommended.

One of my new favourites! I love the trope of someone dangerous body swapping/transmigrating into a 'vase' celebrity and would recommend Kill The Lights and Monochrome Rumor for those who also like this. Although one notable difference is that the ML in Kill The Lights is a bit of a red flag and it is explicit s*xual content. Monochrome Rumor only has explicit s*xual content in the extras.

ML is a green flag and seems very aware of his position of power over the MC and there is a lot of... more>> tension from him not wanting to exploit this/ restraining himself. MC is naive of the feeling love, but flirty and eager. There a few *chef kiss* moments healthy communication when someone feels insecure/confused or has a misunderstanding that I absolutely adored.

There is some background drama with the MC's body's original family, but the main focus is really on the development of the MC/ML relationship and life in the film industry with the MC learning how to have tender feelings and to enjoy acting.

There are a few things that could have been done a little better perhaps, the premise for sticking them together is that
Spoiler

MC wants out of the entertainment industry, but would have to pay a huge fine to terminate his contract and the ML steps up to loan the money on the condition that MC pay it off through acting in his company's movies with more autonomy over what work he has to accept, but this is never really mentioned again. I kept wandering how much money he was making on his roles and when he would pay this debt off. Presumably, by the time it was relevant MC would have already been in love with ML and acting, but it would have been another fun bit of tension for the ML to bring up that he have completed his obligations and was now 'free'.

.

There was also a little pacing problem at the ending, their relationship was fully developed (besides a proposal and a wedding) and the plot points had basically all been resolved (other than getting a dog and 'the end of the novel'), but there were a bunch scenes of filming of a variety show and another movie together, which didn't really add much except fluff and Chinese military/nationalist propaganda. Would have preferred more time bonding with the dog and getting to see the wedding instead.

The transmigration is
Spoiler

also like a lot of transmigration novels used solely a premise for the MC to have a new set of skills /personality that bring them and ML together, which I don't really mind, but it is always a special treat to have them reveal their true past/have there truth discovered, which we don't get here.

I should have read the tags better. I’m not sure how I missed the slice of life tag. The story is nice. Essentially it’s a romance fic. It was just a bit boring because there wasn’t much in the way of antagonists nor much relating to the OG story (even if at the very least the author kept it relevant to the very end of the fic). I read this in one day, 4.2. Its a lovely, chill novel of a dude rediscovering life.

The most interesting part of this novel is the MC, Jiang Dao. Coming from an apocalyptic world, he has a completely different worldview and I'm glad that it stayed consistent until the end of the novel. Not sure if its an easter egg but when he was asked by this agent to "stay skinny" he got so confused because why do people in this novel world loved to look skinny? It reminded me so... more>> much of Ellie in Last of Us. They basically have the same thought process when she asked about the skinny models on the posters. Idk if its intentional or not, nevertheless I enjoyed it.

Continuing with the MC, I find that he's almost the complete opposite of every cliche in a transmigration story. He can drink a lot, there's no "This body has a low alcohol tolerance, I used to be a heavy drinker" then MC gets drunk and escorted by the ML. MC is a stronger person than the ML. Its not a ruthless person meeting another equally ruthless, if not more ML. In this way, it lets Jiang Dao's personality shine and the ML to have a different personality. Also, most of their "driving" scenes are usually initiated by the MC, which is refreshing but it does have a sad reason to it.

I could write for so long but overall, its a great novel. Its a more mature romantic relationship, since it started at s*xual attraction for the MC's part. The half to 3/4 part of the novel was fantastic, but as it gears towards the end I was kinda zoning out. The extras were nice addition. Also, this part bugged me the most. It wouldn't kill the author to have Jiang Dao and Zhou Wei to be a little bit older. Like at least 20 at the start of the novel? I've been reading danmei for so long and authors need to move on from this -teen&thirty pairing.

Other than that, not bad! I recommend this novel. The author does hint that Jiang Dao's other friends will transmigrate into different worlds. One of his friends transmigrated into an ABO world. I'll have to check it out <<less

FREAKIN' LOVE THIS!!

I like characters like this with any MC! Confident, not weak, not helding anything to delay the misunderstanding, lazy yet hardworking & talented.

I MTLed this novel and I rate it 3.5 stars.

About the story

MC comes from an apocalyptic world where he has experienced lost of friends and struggles with his own humanity. Upon his cruel death, he transmigrates to a new peaceful world in which he becomes a young actor in a novel he read. The story follows his personal growth and also his romance with the ML.

... more>> About the MC

He's a very strong character who has weathered horrific experiences with only some of his humanity left intact. He initially is wary and acts a certain way while distancing himself from everyone. However eventually he slowly comes to realize what it means to live in a world at peace, and slowly connects with the people around him. His romance with the ML is a bit chaotic since his view about a relationship is grounded by his past. He's impulsive and in the moment. Through getting to know ML, ML truly helps to guide his growth, to show him how much there is to love in the world and that he doesn't need to hide away in some corner to find peace in his life.

About the ML

ML is incredibly caring and thoughtful, willing to show his vulnerability to MC to get him to understand how much he cares for MC. ML is jokingly called dad quite often but it's really true. In a way he is both MC's life teacher and his lover. Yet because MC hides parts of himself, ML will feel jealousy out of insecurity at times and that's very understandable.

Why I didn't rate the story higher

The author explores emotions well at certain parts and that's where this novel shines. However it is still short in exploring too much in-depth emotionally. The world building is sparse and side characters barely get much space to develop. This novel is almost all mainly focused on MC and ML. That in itself isn't bad, but sometimes it makes the side characters they encounter a little meaningless as not all the encounters help to serve a point of personal growth or show connection with MC. Most of the side characters have no impact or purpose to the novel. The novel lightly touches emotions but jumps between filming, entertainment gossip, pr strategies, flirty romance, action sequences that it leaves few moments for emotion. My personal preference is for more emotional connection but this novel didn't go as far as I'd like to see. Also the progression of character growth jumps from event to action with very little space for emotional development. The author clearly can write strong emotional scenes and dialogue but It's a little sparse compared to the rest of the topics. Most other readers probably won't find this a problem. However the emotional parts that are there are strongly written and done well. TL:DR

Read this novel if you like action sequences, variety shows, entertainment industry, social media cp posts, flirty romance, and moments of psychological angst and levity. MC is not your typical OP protagonist as he carries within him past trauma and PTSD which show up here and there in the novel. ML is truly a loving and wonderful life teacher to MC. <<less

Got a bit bored with the movies and all those netizen comments, but not too much. Interesting plot, interesting characters that actually develop and don’t feel flat, cute side cp - though not a lot time was spared on them. Would have loved for our MC to show more of his specialness and how his former life affected him, but overral this is a LN not a great super developed novel and I was quite surprised with how well some things were portrayed (like how ptsd affected our MC,... more>> how he was insecure at the oddest time simingly and the glimpses of how ruthless he was forced to become in his former life). Would have loved a more serious plot with our MC as a main action character but it would have probably ruined the fluff and this LN was obviously not going for that. All in all it’s a different kind of entertainment story, with unique characters that still somewhat adhere to the usual thropes, with an occasional deeper emotional drama. Good read 4 me <<less

Honestly, this is pretty much the best novel I've read in quite a while. The translation is good, the humor is intelligent, and perhaps best of all, the author seems to have put decent effort into researching what their characters are doing instead of making 'expertise' up as they go along. The storyline, personalities and interactions are logical and well organized. It's not very fast paced, but it doesn't drag on interminably. The drama is well controlled, without being absurdly exaggerated or flat. It actually made me laugh and smile,... more>> which is rare, and best of all, it fueled thought and a desire to better understand the characters, rather than just being spoon-fed a treacle plotline. Mental stimulation is a marvelous thing. <<less

This is a pretty good story. It is nicely placed and I like the main couple, especially the tension and consideration that leads up to them confirming their relationship. Perhaps the most refreshing part of this is that the couple don't feel like male versions of a f/m romance. The only thing that reminded me of a typical, old school romance was the amount of angst they overcome before fully confirming their relationship. That part is pretty sweet. However, both the MC and ML feel like independent, very much masculine... more>> men, which is pretty refreshing.

The other refreshing part of this novel was the way it handled the original protagonists. I love a good face slap (which this story has), but I sometimes end up feeling sorry for the original protagonists, especially if they haven't really done anything yet deserving of the extreme revenge they end up receiving. This novel feels more realistic to what would actually happen if a normal person transmigrated into a normal novel - quickly stop targeting the original protagonists, live and let live.

The finale was also very satisfying to me. It managed to avoid the cliche of a romance where a f/m one always has to end in a baby and a m/m one always has to end in marriage. Sometimes, resolving all the obstacles and worries in the relationship in the relationship is a more important milestone than marriage. This author hits that mark perfectly.

That's not to say this story is prefect - I feel like there are some random plot holes.

Spoiler

For example, the mc's experiences in his original timeline isn't fully explained. He was a s*ave? Or a general? Was he average or one of the elites? Why did he get the chance to live his life in the story? Is it all just a dream? Is it the afterlife? He has a dream which makes it feel like the afterlife unless the dream is an artistic way of showing how he was able to move on.

Then there's the animal thing - it feels so illogical - can they sense the number of people he's killed? Is there a dark karma around him? And how does love help dispel this karma?

[collapse]

Perhaps one of the things that I found most unsettling while reading the story was the ml's attraction. He seemed to realize more quickly that he was in love with the MC, but I got the sense that it was more due to his thrill-seeking nature and ability to sense the danger in the MC than anything else. That makes his ability to love the MC despite anything he's done more questionable - isn't it because his love stems from the fact he can sense the MC is deadly? It felt more like a masochist finding his perfect sad*st than a love match to me. More fetish-based than anything else. However, once the initial attraction is established, the author doesn't really revisits this weird fetish foundation for their relationship. The mc's attraction is also interesting - I feel like the ML is right to be worried about his love - the MC isn't blindly devoted and in love with the ML specifically. But I honestly think this is the more stable half of the relationship - an attraction that's built up from initial friendship based on observation, admiration, and shared interests.

Unlike other entertainment novels that use the movies they shoot as a way of telling mini-stories in the main story, this story didn't do that. It describes the broad themes of the movies and techniques more than plot (except for the big movie about the apocalypse). There's more variety show descriptions in this novel, which feel more like a way of the MC showing off and establishing his character.

If there's one moral to this story, it's to appreciate the life we have, and pursue the love we might find. It could be so much worse. No need to waste your time being jealous of what others have but also no reason to preemptively retire and let yourself fade from society. People can be awful, but they can also be awesome.

I also liked some of the miscellaneous commentary that the author puts in the story. The one from the apocalypse movie was so meaningful I think - how life isn't just black and white, but if you believe in something enough, you need to persist in that belief despite being bombarded by the nuances inherent in life and the tough decisions you might have to make.

There's also a minor sub-movie that's described in this novel that gets mildly philosophical about why you shouldn't trust a perfect spouse, even if they are able to act perfectly loving. This was such a nice articulation of what I felt off in "s*um Male's Whitewashing Manual" - sure someone might make their parter perfectly happy, but if they aren't sincere, and if you can't see their flaws, it might mean they're heavily incentived to hide themselves. And what they're hiding is sometimes scarier than an imperfect partner.

Finally, I thought it was hilarious that the author took a dig at most mm stories' crazy couple demographics. It almost serves to emphasize how this must certainly be a book, since it feels like every male is gay. <<less

A light and sweet story but not perfect 🥺🥺

quite late to the gathering (?) but no less in just spreading the PDA 🥺🫣

100 chapters, gathered at chapter 70 but ML started teasing from the first chapter 🥺

A read I really enjoyed. MC who's almost OP, ML who's super possessive and sweet 🥺 I love how they got together without the need for a prahara, subtly explained, and a satisfying PDA spreader until the end. The MC was insensitive at first, but when sensitized, she was super pe*verted 😭😂 such a... more>> fun contradiction!!!

one of the transmigration stories with the ending explained in an epic way, it was soft, unique yet satisfying!!!

Another sweet read in the showbiz genre that you should enjoy in your spare time. Because it's refreshing and light. <<less
