[From a cultured scoundrel, cold and heartless, to a loyal and devoted partner; from a sunny and energetic youth to a reserved and melancholic beauty.]

Bai Yu met that arrogant and domineering man when he was twenty.

However, every time afterward, as he looked at the scattered red bills on the bed, Bai Yu’s eyes turned red. “Mr. Song, can I… not take the money?”

Song Yu adjusted his tie, casting a sidelong glance at the marked figure on the bed, and said indifferently, “Then what do you want?”

Bai Yu swallowed, his delicate Adam’s apple moving, but he said nothing.

The man approached the bedside, lifting the young man’s chin, his gaze growing deeper. “Bai Yu, always remember what you are. Not everyone can have at twenty what others can’t achieve in a lifetime.”

With that, the man released his grip harshly and turned to leave the room.

Watching the cold and resolute figure walk away, Bai Yu slowly lowered his head, tears falling uncontrollably onto the sheets, leaving a large, dark stain.

That night, Bai Yu lay on the floor, clutching his aching stomach as he called Song Yu. “Mr. Song, my stomach hurts…”

“If your stomach hurts, go to the hospital. Why are you calling me?”

Just as Bai Yu was about to say something else, another voice came through the phone. “Yu, I’m so sleepy, let’s not talk anymore.”

“Alright, Nian.”

Beep–

Bai Yu stared blankly at the phone, feeling the salty, metallic taste rise from his stomach until he couldn’t hold it back anymore and vomited, staining the floor with crimson…

That night, Bai Yu disappeared completely from Song Yu’s life.

Half a year later, at the Cancer Treatment Center, Song Yu burst into the ward like a madman, seeing the person he had been longing for being fed porridge by a rival, the two chatting and laughing, his heart twisted with pain.

“Bai, I was wrong. Come back with me, please don’t leave me.”

Bai Yu’s lips curled into a gentle smile, and he said softly, “Mr. Song, your Bai died on that night six months ago.”

The story is an emotional roller coaster, but be prepared to feel frustrated for most of the chapters

Initially, ML treats MC to release his desire, and he doesn't care much about MC. MC endured a lot for ML.

The ML isn't exactly polygamous (explained in ch80s) —his actions are driven by revenge and goals. However, he's also selfish and arrogant, showing little regard for those around him as long as he achieves his goals (he's still conscientious as he won't retaliate to someone unless he's forced). Unfortunately, this contributes heavily... more>> to the tragedy surrounding the MC.
Spoiler

xialu being detained, r*ped, and ultimately takes his own life. The MC's sister is also r*ped and traumatized and couldn't be cured, and his father accidentally dies to look for his daughter this is not the ML's fault but he put only a lil thought on things which led tragedy. The MC's family tragedy happened when ML detained MC due to ML's selfish reason.

[collapse]

While the MC is righteous, he's also frustratingly naive and stubborn. He was often tricked by people. Despite living in a modern society where things can be investigated and justice sought, he often acts purely on emotion. He rarely thinks things through or makes concrete plans, which makes his actions feel impulsive and self-defeating. Although the ML eventually steps in to help, some things he did to help wasn't helpful enough as he did not put much thought on it (he's busy with business). <<less

Although it seems to have been rated very poorly I have to admit this novel is very emotional and heartbreaking for a ride watching Bai Yu from a money centric charismatic idiot to someone that's devoid of lifelessness he once had s**ked by Mr. Sing gave me a push that said this definitely deserves a 5 star. I'm not saying that just because it's tragic it's emotional therefore it deserves this rating. No, it is much deeper than that to measure the love Mr. Song had for his first love... more>> and Bai Yu suffering from it gave me a very realistic sense of most people clinging to what they have always loved first no matter how much you gave for them, how much you sacrificed and how much dignity is left of you can't be compared just because you weren't first. You weren't the one who stuck around but merely the rain who came after the sun.

This novel left me to tears screaming, crying, begging me from the screen just to say to the male lead just give up your first love, stop focusing on the past but yet the present. Because the novel from its standpoint I see Mr. Song holding himself back and tying him to worthless emotional baggage just for some guy who came first? Sometimes you really just need to unload, let go of the past move on to just be a better person. I mean I get Mr. Song feeling resentment getting looks from people he once held dear but sacrificing multiple opportunities of relationships just for the sake of revenge but not considering the harm he might do to people who could actually change his viewpoint.

Once again, kudos to the translator you did a great job
