In her previous life, Gu Ying gave up her dignity as the legitimate daughter of the Duke of Dongping’s manor for Jiang Yin. She pestered him relentlessly until she finally married him.

Later, Jiang Yin rose to great power and status. He schemed against the state first, then killed her father and exterminated her clan.

She was betrayed by her s*umbag husband and sister-in-law. They broke her legs and threw her in a dilapidated temple, subjecting her to all kinds of humiliations for ten long years.

After being reborn, Gu Ying returned, ready to take revenge.

The first step was to cling onto the “fiancé, Young Marquis Yong’an”, kick away the s*umbag, fight the s*umbag sister-in-law, and play the prestigious families of Bianjing for fools!

The second step of revenge was to cancel the engagement with the “fiancé” and flee to the borderlands, taking her younger brother to find their father!

The third step of revenge was to find a meek, submissive man to marry, staying far away from the s*umbag husband, and live a happy life!

Yet she never expected that the leg she clung onto by accident did not belong to the Young Marquis, but the legendary, sinister and ruthless Crown Prince Zhao Changdu!

Everyone said the Little Prince was hard to handle. This time she would certainly lose her life.

Yet unexpectedly, she could not only handle the Little Prince, but also arrogantly ride on top of him. “Husband, you have cultivated excellent masculine virtues, your wife cannot run away!”

The subordinate was shocked: “Little Prince, you stay up all night reading, you wouldn’t be looking through the Dongli Punishment Illustrations Manual to torture your wife, would you?”

Zhao Changdu remained expressionless: “Thank you for your concern, but this Crown Prince is cultivating masculine virtues to please his wife.”

Frustrating and poorly paced. Our protagonist, Gu Ying, is truly a pitiful soul, with probably the worst original fate I've seen in once of these novels.
Spoiler

"All kinds of humilitations" apparently refers to being tied up in an abandoned temple and used as a human toilet for any s*um of the earth willing to risk an STD

[collapse]
.

Her aim in her rebirth is to get revenge on those who have wronged her, find herself a soft and loving husband, and escape the cruel games of noble society. As of chapter 102, she has failed in all 3.

There has been a number of 'successful' schemes performed so far, and yet not one of them have actually had any of the villains truly suffer in any way, except losing some face here and there. Even after tying her ruthless sister with her old husband together, her sister is still quite happy with the marriage.

The ML is horrible; if it weren't for the summary of this novel, I would've desperately hoped he was another poor soul to drag down to hell. Overbearing, cruel, stubborn. Because of her past, MC is unstandably
Spoiler

afraid of men, and s*xual activities in general.

[collapse]

and yet, even so,
Spoiler

even when she's obviously afraid, disgusted and wary, he forces himself on her. He makes promises not to touch her and breaks them almost the next time they meet, where he r*pes her while she's drugged.

[collapse]
He uses his power to coerce and threaten whoever he wants, just to get his own way. And of course, ML is a prince, so she'll never escape the scheming court.

MC is a different frustration. Gu Ying is refreshing in that she's not competent in everything, all the time. She's not a sudden business genius, or the most talented artisan. However, what is frustrating is that she'll constantly act like everything is all going according to plan, and when warned that "bad thing will happen" she'll hand-wave it away, saying 'leave it be, I have a plan'. And then, when the bad thing actually happens, it turns out she doesn't actually have a plan? And she acts shocked about it. Like girl, what were you doing the last two months? Drinking tea??

The translation quality is all over the place, and the pronouns and names of places change constantly. I'm only adding an extra star because MC at least tries to have some backbone, and isn't an immediate genius at everything.

Translation is good, other than names being mixed up (the ML is the ducal heir, but is often called eldest prince, crown prince or prince guo).

Long novel involving rebirth, multiple households, revenge, etc. Usually I'd love this, but my issues are
Spoiler

:

    • too many villains - too many men want to r*pe the exquisitely beautiful FL, and too many women want to kill the FL to marry the handsome ML.
    • too many r*pe references - in a time when female c*astity was more important than a female's life, r*pe/gang r*pe is used/mentioned a lot (ie phrases like thrown into brothels, taken by bandits, held down and forced, etc.)
    • FL didn't tell the ML about her rebirth until 98% into the story, which was way too late
    • for 96% of the novel, reborn s*um ex-husband's obsessive scheming nullifies the FL's rebirth golden finger because he's a better schemer than her
    • towards the end she has a huge loving supportive family, but where were they all before? In a few short paragraphs her OP maternal grandpa punishes a bunch of minor villains. Too fast, too late.
    • basically, I tend to like novels where the author doesn't torture the FL and women in general so much. I liked the triumphant OP moments, when she did archery/horse-riding and calligraphy at the start, but the FL spends half the novel worried, heavily pregnant, and schemed against until the very, very end of the novel.

This novel is pretty decent, imo. There's definitely a lot of drama, and a fair chunk of it feels unnecessary but I think the relationship between our MC, Gu Ying, and our ML, Zhao Changdu, enough to keep on reading. There's definitely a hurdle to get over to getting invested in their relationship, which is the elements of dubious consent and s*xual assault in the initial stages of the relationship, in both this life and Gu Ying's last life before she was reborn, so fair warning for that.

I always really... more>> like to see multiple people reborn, too, and it's actually interesting that

Spoiler

MC's previous husband, the scummiest man alive, is actually the other person reborn. He and Gu Ying have a very interesting animosity and battle. At this point in the story he seems to be dead but might still be alive.

[collapse]

There's one thing in the novel right now that drives me a bit cuckoo. It's not a major issue, just a personal gripe of mine, but

Spoiler

the plot we're dealing with now is about the ML's mother. Zhao Changdu's mom died when he was pretty young, and he was sure she was mu*dered by his dad's concubine, Cheng. After her death, his father ignored him and he was badly mistreated. His grandfather took care of him, bringing him to the battlefield with him, because that was a better situation then he was dealing with at home. So, it was pretty dire.

Well. Turns out, his mom, Lin, wasn't dead. Cheng attempted to mu*der her, but failed, and then she just ABANDONED HER SON and left. It's infuriating, tbh. And then??? She pretended to be an ordinary doctor named Yu Gu and saved his life but never revealed herself for no f*cking reason? Insane behaviour, imo.

Her identity is revealed now, and Zhao Chengdu is just happy to have his mom back, which, understandable, it's gotta be overwhelmingly joyous, and that would definitely blind him to the abandonment and weird lying to him. But now his mom's adopted daughter, who previously tried to cause Gu Ying to miscarry, nearly kill Gu Ying, and get Gu Ying's maid r*ped, just because she's h**ny for Zhao Chengdu and hates Gu Ying, is trying to horn in on him. And his mom is helping! She knows what She Ruxu, her adopted daughter, did to HER UNBORN GRANDSON. But she just wants Gu Ying to leave it as water under the bridge and forget about it.

Lin is just a character I really don't like. I hate her treatment of Gu Ying and Zhao Chengdu, and I hate that she's practically trying to break their marriage apart for a girl who tried to kill a baby. I wonder if she's ever going to face any consequences. I kind of doubt it though.

EDIT: OK, I'll give Lin this, she did tell Shen Ruxu to lay off. But still. I'm really not fond of her.

[collapse]

Even with that gripe, I still like the novel a fair amount, lol, I just had to vent about that.

But, yeah, decent read, interesting couple, plentiful and sometimes overwrought conflict (but that's the genre, afterall, it's to be expected). The translation isn't great -seems like its mostly MTL, and there's a big problem with inconsistency between chapters in how it translates terms and it's also often mixing up people's names. I'd call it serviceable. Readable, but sometimes confusing.

It's nothing phenomenal but it's enjoyable. <<less

In the previous life, MC was an annoying, naive, and uneducated girl, who was madly in love with Jiang. Jiang was just a commoner who won 1st or 3rd place in an imperial examination. MC was a daughter in a earl household so she had some nobility that would help Jiang launch his career. MC already had a childhood betrothal to a son of a Marquis family, which she s*upidly ended and yielded that marriage to her evil cousin, Gu Jiao.

Due to scheming of her cousin sister Gu Jiao and... more>> multiple concubines after her marriage to Jiang, MC was brutally and horrifically ab*sed and later abandoned in a place where anyone can have their way with her. MASSIVE WARNING HERE FOR R**PE. It was there that she ended her life after biting her tongue and swallowing a rock.

Upon rebirth, she decided to temporarily hug her childhood fiance's thigh but had mistaken the heir of the founding Duke's house for her fiance.

Spoiler

MC was drugged by Jiang and Liu with a potent aphrodisiac. She came onto the ML first... It is true that he could have helped her find some other relief but they did not have the time because of the engagement talks in the main hall that required his presence. If she was not cured in time, it would have done more damage to her body! Although it is said that he was... Erm... Extra rough because he is a military man and can't always control his strength in midst of passion. In addition, he admitted to being a virg*n as well. So both times, he was too unskilled and rough with her and that made her scared of being intimate with him.

[collapse]

Thus far the speed of the story is a bit slow and only two months has passed since she reset, yet there are already so many twists and turns. I can definitely understand the frustration from other reviews, but this is the non-op MC that a lot of other people ask for.

Although the MC is actually literate, quite competent, with some advantages of limited knowledge of the future, she's truly helpless as a young miss in a treacherous household. She has 0 true allies in the house and has to carry baggage, e.g. naive maid, crippled brother. The ML is OP but he seems to be balanced out by his stepmother's scheming as well.

There's not a lot of chemistry right now because both of them are deeply scarred by their experiences and have built high and thick walls to compensate. Chemistry picks up at their wedding... And on around
Spoiler

chap 171, ML says to his friend that MC is his life. While MC is catching feels for ML here, she's still very uncertain and unwilling to risk her feelings yet.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The ML is attracted to the MC's strength and beauty but he's also very guarded against women since he was traumatized by his childhood friend. Note that he himself said he did not love Hio Qinyun and only wanted to marry her to protect her and give her freedom as thanks for her care in his time of need. Despite that, he was traumatized by her very public abandonment. A lot of unknowns at this point of the story about what really happened. It is hinted that she loved the ML but had no other choice but to marry the brother.

Likewise, MC is attracted to the ML but isn't thrilled about his roughness in bed (her v card in both lives were taken by ML)... And the fact that she misunderstood that Huo Qinyun was his first love. I don't think he loved that girl at all except maybe as a family. However, this is enough for MC to put up many walls.

[collapse]

In the extra, there is a tiny twist.

Spoiler

One of the villains was a girl that Jiang Yin found who looks 80% like MC. Jiang trained that girl to act like MC to a T in order to switch her out. The twist is that in the first life, Jiang didn't know that MC was sent to the temple to be tortured. He actually mean to send her look a like while raising MC in a secret villa so that ML can never find her again. In that life, Jiang thought that the look a like was MC and so he lived a happy life with look a like... Not knowing the the girl he loved was actually swticher out by his Jiang Ling and Gu Gia to be tortured for 10 long years. He even thought that the look alike was used as bait to kill ML... Not knowing. He went crazy with regret and resigned to death after he found out the bitter truth.

[collapse]

This novel requires some patience, but it is a good read for people who don't enjoy OP MCs who can do it all after one glance. MC's talents make sense based on her history and upbringing.

Translation is a bit messy like it requires an editor. Names are constantly wrong or switched, courtyards are called studios, and pronouns are mixed up, though not as often as names are. You have to pay attention to context a lot... I'm not sure if the it's the author or the translation are switching names. <<less

My is bold and s*upid while pretending to be smart? She is reborn but still falls into every disgusting trap and needs to be saved by the prince every time. Her ability is inconsistent, somehow she’s skilled enough to stand up on horseback shooting a bullseye with a bow and arrow yet is too frail to claim a ladder outside her room? She’s smart enough to scheme but never smart enough to avoid others schemes? She boldly says too much and can’t back herself up. We get so much detail... more>> about her sordid past all the time but instead of dealing with any of that, she just dumbly schemes and gets schemed. MC is the opposite of op. Thus whole book is just freaking anxiety and annoyance to me because she really can’t do anything herself and instead of spending her new life becoming self sufficient, she just focuses on revenge with empty confidence and short sightedness until she has to gets saved over and over again. And in the end ultimately every time she is incapable without a man, meanwhile her past makes her hate men? Honestly I hate that I read so much of this because it just made me anxious and angry the whole time lol some people may like this style but it’s not for me. I’d rather see MC learn to have the ability to stand. Relying on the prince is good and all but honestly she is an unremarkable MC and the relationship doesn’t make sense to me because it’s built on the basis that she is clever but time and time again she shows that she is really not clever. All in all, this novel gave me 0 warm fuzzies and is not to my taste.

translations were also a mess, lots of he/she mix ups is normal but they place names wrongly frequently so you have to double check and infer on your own who they mean vs. What it says. Confusing but not bad enough for me to stop reading based on the translation. Story itself was the issue for me. <<less

I dropped this novel around chapter 200 so I won't rate it but I'll share my thoughts.

The premise of the story holds promise, but unfortunately, the execution leaves much to be desired. While there are some compelling elements, the novel is marred by inconsistencies, overused tropes, unnecessary drama, and shallow character development. Also, title is misleading, she doesn't get more than 3 serious suitors and ML is basically her only decent option for marriage.

Plot Summary:

The FL grows up sheltered, naive, and lacking in resources due to her absent... more>> father, deceased mother, and disabled brother. She is manipulated into falling for a poor scholar while her cousin takes her place in a more advantageous marriage arranged by her late mother. While her cousin flourishes, the FL is trapped in an unloving and abusive marriage. Then she is taken away by her cousin and ends up disabled and tortured for over a decade in a dilapidated temple. She suffers through intense mistreatment, including physical and s*xual ab*se, until she finally dies. However, she is reborn on the day she loses becomes engaged to her previous life's cruel husband. Determined to exact revenge, save her family, and find peace, she sets out to change her fate.

The Problem:

Despite the dark themes of trauma and revenge (and after suffering one of the most horrifying fates I've ever read in these novels), the FL's development feels rushed and unrealistic. The author focuses heavily on portraying the ab*se she suffered, but it feels like she "gets over" her trauma far too easily, largely thanks to the "ML halo" despite of her complex feelings and unresolved fears. This undermines the emotional weight of her experiences and makes her character arc feel shallow.

Pros:

    • The FL isn't portrayed as overpowered, which makes her struggle more relatable. She faces serious challenges and has limited resources to fight back, which makes it more interesting
    • The Male Lead (ML) is caring and protective after their marriage, which is a refreshing touch and adds some sweetness to their dynamic.
Cons:

    • Overused Tropes: The story is riddled with cliches that feel forced and detract from its originality.
    • Inconsistent Characterization and Logic: The characters' actions often lack motivation or make little sense. For instance, the ML oscillates between being a gentleman and a s*umbag
      Spoiler

one moment he's offering a mutually beneficial marriage and the next, he's forcing himself on the FL with a kiss and telling her he won't accept refusals about his proposal, despite earlier claims about respecting her.

He wants a calculating wife to deal with his family but reacts badly when he finds her scheming.

      [collapse]
The FL also fluctuates between being portrayed as intelligent and resourceful and, at other times, completely helpless, with her plans often falling apart or being dropped without explanation.
    • Poor Portrayal of Trauma despite using Sex*al ab*se as Plot Device. As others reviewers mentioned, author has a fixation with r*pe. Also, if you're going to emphasize the lasting impact of r*pe and ab*se, repeatedly describing how the FL is terrified, disgusted, and fearful of men and physical touch, the least the story can do is offer a realistic, gradual recovery process. Instead, we get a quick "cure" via the ML's charm, essentially, "he's so great in bed, he cured her trauma." This not only trivializes the trauma but also undermines the depth of the FL's struggles. The ab*se experienced by the FL's younger brother is also downplayed, which is problematic in its own right.
    • This may be a personal gripe but the ML seems almost always ready for intimacy, regardless of the situation:
      Spoiler

Aphrodisiac? To bed! Misunderstanding? To bed! FL got hurt? To bed! ML looked at FL? To bed! Got jealous? To bed! Carriage ride? You know it...

      [collapse]
This excessive focus on the ML's libido feels disconnected from the emotional weight of the story.
    • Exaggerated FL halo: Not a fan of FL being so beautiful everyone wants to posses her, is she made of gold? The poor thing isn't OP nor particularly smart, no need to make her such an irresistible target. Extract from C180: "An aura unique to her of absolute purity and allure simultaneously made anyone who saw her have the impulse to possess her." Also, reasonable explanations aren't so reasonable: "She is extremely talented and picked up reading and writing after just one lesson. I did not waste two nights of effort on her (ML to empress about FL). This provided a reasonable explanation for why Gu Ying suddenly knew how to read and write. (narrator) " One lesson? Really? She went from illiterate to perfect calligraphy in less than one month and you call that reasonable?
    • Unsatisfying Revenge: Despite harboring deep hatred for her enemies, the FL lets them off far too easily. This undermines her drive for revenge and makes her motivations feel inconsistent.
    • Unexplained Motivations of the Villains: The enemies from her previous life go to great lengths to torture her, despite her seemingly low status and lack of power. Their actions feel disproportionate and are never fully explained, leaving a sense of disconnect in the narrative.
While the premise shows potential, the novel falls short of being a good read due to weak character development, a reliance on tired cliches, and a lack of logical consistency. The protagonists' personalities and goals change according to the plot's convenience. If I were to rate it (which I won't), I'd give it 2 or 3 stars <<less

I am not going to rate this now because I am still at chapter 8 and I don't know if I will be continuing or dropping. Ps I just wanted to rant lol.

So while the premise isn't really anything new, I do think they have been some interesting plot points that have been mentioned and I want to see play out. I also want to see how the MCs relationship plays out.

However, the FL is extremely annoying to me for some reason. She is incredibly self righteous and can do... more>> no wrong only be wronged and even in cases where she is wrong it's because of someone else. Usually the villains do the FL so bad that you can't help but hate them but I can't even blame them in this case. It's not their fault the FL is dumb. First of all she forces herself on this guy and marries him by force despite knowing he has no feelings for her but because he is cold to her after they finally get married he is the worst guy to ever exist 🙄. Like what was she expecting? Tbh if the roles were reversed we would be calling the guy all sorts of names. Then we have the cousin (she is actually not a good person) who she hates because she "stole" her initial fiance and went on to live a good life. But is it really stealing when you willingly gave him away?

I just don't get why she is so angry at them, everything she went through could have been avoided if she had just taken no for the answer.

Then finally, my breaking point, apparently she was also neglectful to her younger brother just to please other people. This is especially ironic when you remember one of the grudges she carries from her past life is that her brother died an untimely death. When she herself didn't care about him does she really have the right to be mad.

I honestly think the author should have foregone mentioning the fl's past life every few paragraphs because it's doing the opposite of what it's supposed to do. <<less

Won't rate, didn't finish, but I felt like this story is a tad contradictory and lacking. If it ever gets fully translated, I might pick it back up, but as it stands now I'm bored with the novel.

MC is okay, not fond that the ML is her strength. Would have preferred them to be more equal. She started out strong, but is slowly relying on ML completely. She isn't thinking things through and some parts aren't clear.

ML is typical for this type, only thing kind of different is he did... more>> love before... maybe it's not exactly clear if it's romantic love or live out of duty.

So many parts in this novel just bug me a bit. <<less

it's a slow-draging story..

at the begining, it quite understandable for the FL, who is 'an-ancient-women', with her 'ancient-women-mentality-of-thinking', which is for her... what happened before her reborn.. being r*pe & v*oilated are something shameful & her mentality is'nt as strong as us of modern people....

BUT... she, who known some useful information of the future... selfishly dragging it until it's become big issues, Just Because She didn't TRUST the ML enough.

It's quite baffles me, that she her-self, had FORGOTTEN THE REAL FACT, those in her memory before her reborn, DIDN'T REALLY... more>> HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE, BUT she go on & antagonize the valiant, until he also got his reborn-memories & keep on blaming him for her-fail-revange.

i've read until 100's chapters... had it enough of her 's*upid-self-righteous-act' trying so hard but fail to kill the valiant, DIRECTLY SKIPP towards nearly ending chapter.

This novel are NOT SO RECOMMEND. <<less

This is an OK story of rebirth and revenge with the stereotypical domineering, borderline abusive ML, drugged s*x, etc. There are a lot of implied s*x scene's, every time the ML gets mad, or jealous, or happy, there's a forced s*x scene. It's a bit repetitive (repulsive). The side characters are pretty flat and cookie cutter. Even the villain, with previous life memories revived, is pretty stereotypical. The translation veers randomly between translating names as meaning and as sounds, and also adds pronouns to make the English correct with no... more>> regard to gender. I recommend you keep track of characters in your head to keep from getting confused. <<less

almost at the end so I guess in can make a little review.

The story is in the description so I wont talk about it.

it is a chinese novel with more than 460 chapters and the quality is enough to be read even if sometimes there are some mislead. It's okay on a novel like this 'cause it is very long. Eventually, after a moment, you don't see the mistakes.

... more>> the updates were daily ! Sometimes 2 to 4 chapters ! I appreciate it very much.

the themes are about fate, twists, imperial dynastie but most of all family. You can do nothing without family, you are nothing without family, you can only be loved if you have your family with you.

so be prepared to read about the little brothers around the FL & ML hahaha ! <<less

It’s entertaining but nothing new. It’s a revenge plot novel but not really well executed. Despite being reborn, the female lead is surprisingly weak and having to depend on the male lead for everything. Also, the story has some inconsistencies, not sure if it was because I was MTL or if it’s an oversight from the author. There some plots twists at the end which frankly should have been skipped.

First I’d like to thank Akknovel for translating and giving access to some awesome novels.

But, I feel like this novel is a mash up between Rebirth of Ill Fated consort X Malicious Empress from Military Lineage fast paced version.

I’ve read a bunch of rebirth novels other than those two so believe me, the situations/relationships that occur in this novel resemble situations that happen in the two novels I mentioned above. Some of the phrases and dialogue are familiar too.

However, the FL vastly differs as she can switch up real fast... more>> from fearful (actual fear, not pretending) to icy cold depending on who she is interacting with. This is an of aspect I somewhat dislike, you can’t get a good feel for her character because of her changing attitude but at the same time makes her realistic. She also lacks confidence and is not as smart (which is understandable once you read what she went through)

Another thing that lead me to give it a 3/5 is the superficial writing. It’s faced paced which is a good thing when done well but the writing in the novel is basic, only ever being descriptive when describing the appearances of the characters. The translation also makes it difficult to read because there’s a lot of mistakes in who is talking, grammar and the name changes. (FL refers to her rebirth as transmigration twice which not sure if author error or translating error.)

Because it’s so similar to other novels and doesn’t have a unique factor to it, I will not continue to read it. <<less

  • I like it so far. MC the female lead is balanced. She is neither too aggressive nor passive. I am liking the way that she does not get too entangled in her revenge scheme until she loses thd sight of making life better for herself & loved ones this time.
  • She is also very much aware that marrying nobility may drag her into more complicated situations, but will that he the outcome for her? We shall see
  • i also think the pacing is good. The plots not too draggy, the family intricacies are given equal amount compared to her interactions with her potential suitors
  • I am rather conflicted about how the male lead, Changdu treats her so far.... or is he the make lead?

I think I have too many gripes with this novel to give it a better rating. It was a fine read. I honestly kept going because I like this type of novel plot (honestly after reading the extras I see strong echoes of my favorite cnovel rebirth of the malicious empress of military lineage) but I don't think I'd reread it. There's many plots and schemes, twists and turns. But it could drag on in some places where it could have been used to set up key characters that appear... more>> later on instead of things being rushed. The revenge took a while before it was fully satisfying, MC could get on my nerves with her thinking, her actions would often contradict her thoughts and she never really had plans til the last minute and relied more on ML. ML was hard to like at first and I didn't understand the root of his affection and doting on her till later when their early connection is revealed. Then he grew to be one of my more favored characters though in the end cousin Ye and his mother were ultimately the winners.

Also what is time in this book? They jump around too often, it drags on to feel like months or pack too many things within days. I'm not even sure how long it's been in universe since they married yet something in a later chapter implies years. There were parts I enjoyed more than other but the last major plot at the end was particularly satisfying to read considering how long it has been set up in the background. It honestly saved my rating from being a two star rather than a 3.

Spoiler filled rant below I was writing the review as I read the last 100 or so chapters

Spoiler

Author is inconsistent with many things. So many characters actions don't match the characteristics they've been showing previously. Or perhaps the author wrote things out of order because some things only made sense after you read the next chapter otherwise it seemed like an illogical jump. Some could be explained away - author keeps saying ML is 10 years older than MC except when you discover they met as children then she was 3/4 and he was around 10. ML wanted a tough wife who could put his family in order yet when MC acts a bit vicious he gets repulsed until it's revealed it's just returning the favor.

others are just puzzling to the point of annoyance. Like she frequently has MC slip back into her memories of torture and ab*se at the hands of her first husband but it's not till the last 100 or so chapters does she bring up being accompanied by a little beggar who tried to protect her. She didn't even recall him til that moment but she could recall books, dates, people she never even met. Reuniting with him pushed her to the point of tears. Maybe it's selective memory due to trauma or maybe it's just poor writing on the authors part for not mentioning him sooner to at least set things up. Because the other reborn person (ex husband) doesn't mention this either though he mentions things that happened in the first life that do sound plausible. Even if I find his emotional state keeps flip flopping from love to hate and back again, it's grating on my nerves. I also don't get how he was allowed to be so unscrupulous by the emperor, even if he was the one to help put him into place, how did he get away with brutality against multiple respected families. Edit: its confusing as you read but you won't get the full answer until the extras and well... in my spoilers lol

I was very satisfied with his death heck I even felt the smallest shred of pity for him.

I thought her younger brother would have bigger impact to the story since he was mentioned a a regret from the start but he's barely a character. There are servants who get more attention than he does. Cast of characters gets too big especially since most of them are one off. Why wait till nearly the end to bring her maternal family in to protect her. It just seems like last minute add on, like where were they in her past life if they had the guts now to go against the duke/ML and punish those who harmed MC and her brother, what stopped them in last life when it was just the ex husband a government official. Why wait till the extras to reveal answers to some big questions and what seemed like significant clues. Like the random jade she found at the winter hunt, I thought that might be a link to MLs mother but nothing happened. The real reason she was hated by her grandmother & how her mother died. We even got to see MLs fate in her original life (heartbreaking) Or the obvious answer to who is the father of Ning si's baby - clearly she was intact when you passed her to her fiancé what a Coinkydink that she ends up mysteriously pregnant after. Yet no one not even the fiancé connected the dots til after there was a misunderstanding and forceful actions. He nearly aborted the baby out of jealousy. I nearly pulled my hair out.

I did like how you can see echoes of their previous selves in other characters. Like Young master fu was similar to the prideful ex husband, little sister Shuang was like MC. Some grew stronger others proved to be disappointing

All that aside what is with this authors obsession with r@pe. In her first life MC was ab*sed by her ex and assaulted by beggars, a drügged ML, a prince, and bandits. Even in the next life ML is a bit forceful and pushed her boundaries often when she was still triggered by him. Eventually they did build trust and affection and she slowly found faith again. Second life she's somehow even more beautiful so more people want to r@pe her but especially her ex husband who claims he's the only one who could love her. All the antagonists want to send her and her significant female allies to get assaulted. Even MC sets up 3 different characters to be assaulted. Nearly everyone schemes to separate the two love birds and claim them for themselves.

Oh my biggest gripe with this is her interactions with her ex husband. Sometimes she hates him and wants him to die by her own hands. But then she just drags it on. Then when he "passes" she just leaves his body whole and lets ML hang him in the wall as a warning, where someone took it away. Clearly he wasn't dead but she was all too happy to have the only person who could reveal her dark past gone. Considering her ex annihilated her maternal family and her immediate family (second branch) to the point of desecrating their bodies, I wouldn't have let him have it good even in death. My heart wouldn't have been settled until I saw his body in pieces, burned to ash and scattered on the wind. She had so manny chance to reveal her past to ML but she waits til the last moment because she's so scared but he's already told her repeatedly that fate made her the only one for him and he would rather be alone than without her, he's prepared to her darkness yet she waited for so long leaving a weapon against herself

Also why is it always Gu worms. Why can't it just be regular poisons 😭 I don't understand why they say it's been in her for years I think they've barely been married a year.

IMO it took way too long for her to share her past (maybe 50 chapters away from the end) and he wasn't even conscious the first time. But the villain had revealed to him nearly everything, MC does eventually share things albeit disconnected from it. Which understandable.

The extras were very good, especially the final revenge against evil ex. You found out how deep the evil went in that timeline especially around the people he surrounded himself with. He used MC to plot against ML in the OG timeline, believing he was torturing MCs doppelgänger and having a good life with MC but in truth he was schemed against by his own people. For a brief moment I thought he'd been deep in his delusions but no evil was repaid with evil.

So far the extras are very bittersweet. Fate keeps bringing them together even if they haven't always remembered. My heart broke for them, truly too pitiful. As well as the misery set upon others. Humans can be quite evil even while the heavens try to grant kindness. It seems only the ML and MC can survive the turbulent waves nearly unscathed.

The translation was a bit rough but kind of expected in from the translator. The usual habit of wrong pronouns, wrong character names being used in a sentence only for it to be corrected a moment later, the titles could get confusing they keep referring to ML as crown prince so for a while I couldn't understand how the emperor let his son out and about like that only to realize they should have used the duke title when referring to ML though since his father and grandfather are alive I guess using young duke would have been better. Sometimes lines would repeat several times once or twice multiple paragraphs were repeated. <<less
