After a once exceptionally gifted Alpha reincarnated into an Alpha without any mental strength, Ren Qingqiu ends up marking an Omega.

To her shock, Ren Qingqiu discovers that this Omega is actually the top combat student at the school!

Ren Qingqiu thought that Bai Yuxi was so flustered that day she wouldn’t remember anything—until Bai Yuxi mentioned it with a cold knife piercing the wall behind her.

“…What do you plan to do about the child in my belly?”

“!!?”

Everyone thinks Ren Qingqiu, this Alpha, is useless, with nothing but her looks to commend her.

Yet, she’s actually together with the school’s top combat student, Bai Yuxi.

Who is Bai Yuxi?

An unattainable, high-and-mighty top combat student!

As a result, rumors spread that Ren Qingqiu is living off Bai Yuxi.

Upon hearing the gossip, Ren Qingqiu casually pecked the person next to her and lazily smiled.

“Hmm, it really is soft. Once you’ve had this, you won’t want anything else.”

“Shut up,” Bai Yuxi replied coldly.

“……”

Ren Qingqiu glanced at Bai Yuxi’s reddening ears and, ignoring her silence, pecked her again.

I was desperately looking for ABO GL novel these days, who would have thought that there was such a gem like this? My answer? Of course I love it!

Also as for the translation, it's extremely good, I was prepared to read something that would leave me battered and confused but those expectations were shattered. I'm sorry translator-nim for thinking you'd have poor translation skills! It's absolutely amazing!

Well there isn't much I'd say about the novel, just that it's extremely fun and I love it and everybody should definitely read it.... more>> Here I was saying "I hope this novel had more updates!" Then when I checked the dates, I realized that this novel turned out to be a fresh one? I thought it was another one of those dropped treasures. I'm glad that all my guesses are wrong, waiting for the update patiently here~

Edit: What happened to the previous translator? <<less

Read everything at once in MTL.

The entire premise of the novel is the league competition and a bit of revenge regarding the past of the MC.

The romance between the MC and FL is just one big, golden retriever x tsundere cat type of feeling and it was quite fun to read. The characters know how to communicate therefore there's no emotional drama caused by misunderstandings.

... more>> Though there is a pregnancy tag, its almost irrelevant due to the lax attitude they have about the it. So don't expect any miscarriage troupes.

Overall it was an okay read, there were quite a bit of sweet moments but they were overshadowed by action scenes and tsundere acts by the FL. The extras are mostly about their child grown up which was quite disappointing as I wanted diabetes from the two main couple not about the child.

Anyway, do try and have a read if you want a casual sweet experience with a hint of action. <<less

I really liked this one! It has a way of drawing you in. The balancing between the main leads' sweet moments and the action packed scenes were delightful. I never got bored reading it. It actually has potential for another season. I really hope it gets one.

There are two plotlines going on at the same time: ... more>>

the league competition and catching LB's killer/s

[collapse]
Many works struggle in properly unfolding two simultaneous plotlines without jarring the narrative but here it was executed very well.

However, I find two major downfalls that often clashed with my suspension of disbelief. But, these are just my personal preferences and other readers may not have issues with it at all. Firstly,
Spoiler

BY suffers from 'fiction pregnancy' hahaha. Why was no one really worried about her participating in the league despite knowing the fact that she's pregnant?? I know it's during her early pregnancy months but we never got even a mention of any preparations for her and the baby's safety or plans in case something serious happened. Also it's like BY never showed any pregnancy signs other than pheromone craving (which could just be attributed to her growing attraction to RQ) and slightly increased drowsiness and fatigue (that was only mentioned at the start then never again until Extra 5). Seems like she also never had a baby bump even though she's already pregant before the league.

[collapse]

Secondly, why RQ reincarnated was never explained and others accepted it so easily like it was as natural as the changing of seasons. This always irks me in reincarnation/transmigration stories because the original owner of the body is easily discarded as if they never existed at all, and no one worries whether the entity/ies responsible for this reincarnation/transmigration would one day send them back to death and bring back the original owner. Conveniently enough here, the original RQ was an orphan and a useless loser, insignificant enough that no one would miss her.

Honestly, if this novel gets another season/volume, I'd like it to address that. Something like Li Bei never truly died and that 'Ren Qingqui' is some sort of artificial human created by an opposing nation for some sort of experiment and Li Bei's memories was transported into Qingqui. Or maybe connect that to the blue jellyfish thingy that supposedly can slow down cellular aging.

Anyway, even though there were some serious things here and there, it never got too heavy. The novel managed to maintain great balance between light and serious themes.

The characters felt real and the occasional switching of POVs between different characters provides us more insight into their feelings and thoughts. I especially love BY's emotional growth, her toughness, and the consistency of her character. She's still flawed perfect and I love her.

The romance between BY and RQ felt very organic and even though their personalities are so fundamentally different, they complement each other very well. They understand each other and can communicate properly, so there is none of those contrived drama due to misunderstandings that is so common to this type of pairing. I dare say it's healthy communication because, even though it's obvious to us as the readers that BY has fallen for RQ, it isn't so for BY. It's not that she refuses to admit it, but rather, she truly believed that what she felt was not true love but just physiological attraction, many thanks to her upbringing and the life she's led so far. I like how the novel didn't just shove this down our throats but instead showed us both their perspectives so their interactions felt very natural.

Being an ABO/Omegaverse novel, there were spicy scenes. One chapter was even dedicated entirely for just that. It's more of a romance-action novel with a pretty tame ABO/Omegaverse twist. Lovely. And, unlike other ABO works, this one doesn't have suppresant stickers constantly covering their glands. I find that a super plus point because I can't, for the life of me, imagine living peacefully in a world with such a stifling necessity.

Despite having many extra chapters, a large chunk of it was dedicated to the love life of RQ and BY's daughter that we never even met in the main story. It felt like an excuse to write a spin-off. Also, don't expect getting any more of the side characters as well because there was nothing about them in the extras : (And I was so ready to ship Tang Xing and Lin Zhimi! I also wanted to know more about Kong Youxi's struggles after Li Bei's death. And, I wanted to see RQ-BY's wedding ceremony. But there was nothing. Nothing! <<less

I really enjoyed the plot of the main characters and I love the resolution given to the villains!

Spoiler

My only dislike would be towards the extra chapters. I didn't really like the relationship dynamics of their daughter with the older alpha. Feels kinda like g*ooming and emotional manipulation. I have nothing against the Alpha/Alpha trope it's the imbalance of power that bothers me.

Fluffy interstellar Yuri/GL novel about a brilliant, roguish MC who died tragically and transmigrated into the body of a weak Alpha, and a cold, disciplined fighting Omega FL. The military academy competition was fun, the MC and FL are sweet together, and the pregnancy is a simple plot device, but the world building could have been deeper. Reminded me a bit of Smash All Pots and Pans. I loved their OP fighting scenes.

The story is quite an interesting one. Despite the pregnancy being the main reason that the main characters got together, it actually doesn't have much impact to the story. At times, it seems that the author has forgotten completely about it and easily takes a way out by saying Bai Yuxi doesn't really have any pregnancy signs. Oh, also for gimmick to be used for comedic effect I guess.

Don't really expect much from the child rearing expect from the extras too. Seems like the extra just serves as a partner introduction for a child they barely raised. Disappointing.

[collapse]

That doesn't mean that the story isn't good. The plot is nice, reminds me plenty of hunger games, actually. If you ignore the weak world building, the story would be very much more enjoyable.

Don't expect any explanation on any Ren Qingqiu's reincarnation.
Spoiler

or how easily her friends and mentor accepted her identity.

[collapse]

There's an undertone of an oppressive militaristic society throughout all of the story but we never really find out who their enemies are despite them training so hard to fight them, supposedly. The story deals more with the internal conflicts in their society and has plenty of unfortunate plot holes.

But it is a fluffy and sweet story between the main characters, so I'll just treat the novel as that and put aside the other silly things. <<less

10/10 (Top tier)

This novel successfully balances both a strong overarching plot with strong romantic progression. In addition, both elements are intertwined instead of feeling like the novel is swapping between the plot parts and the romance parts. While side characters are not given particularly high amounts of screentime, most of the side characters that are somewhat delved into or have unusual amounts of screen time are well handled and feel fun and/or nuanced enough in proportion to the time spent on them. While a few plot threads exist that... more>> I feel could have been given slightly more, overall I think the work is excellently paced and handled.

Spoiler

While we aren't made fully aware of certain aspects of the past immediately and we slowly understand more of the background of Ren Qingqiu and those close to her as time goes on, I wouldn't refer to this book's plot as a mystery. There's a very limited amount that can be reasonably inferred ahead of time, and several of the bigger revelatory beats are moreso character moments than outright reveals. However, the pacing of the plot is very well done, and as long as you're not reading with the mindset of solving a mystery, slowly (and at times quickly) learning about the past is quite enjoyable. This is largely because the pacing of the plot is well-entwined with emotional beats, and plot points that by themselves might not result in much of a reaction 'unlock' rare moments of vulnerability, or perhaps heartwarming bonding, or maybe thoughts of 'what could have been'.

In this way, the romance between Ren Qingqiu and Bai Yuxi is well-integrated. Ren Qingqiu is always optimistic and cheerful, yet deep down still feels the trauma of how her life ended as Li Bei. Bai Yuxi has been raised to be cold and rational, and combined with how her relationship with Su Min ended, has a very thick emotional shell and doesn't really believe in love. What makes the emotional progression feel special is that due to their respective personalities, the relationship progression feels relatively subtle. It's hard to pinpoint the exact moment of relationship progression - we are effectively given snapshots every now and then when they have a chance for more emotional connection, and we can see from their interactions how Bai Yuxi's shell breaks a little bit more, or how Ren Qingqiu's emotional trauma breaks through, allowing Bai Yuxi to understand Ren Qingqiu just a little bit more.

It is true that the pregnancy aspect is very much sidelined aside from slightly justifying Bai Yuxi's emotional state during the book (not that it was needed to do so) but I'm not convinced that focusing more on that aspect would have improved the book in any way or meshed well with the storylines and themes currently presented, so it's probably for the better.

A lot of the reason why this works is because time is taken to build a solid foundation, allowing us to understand the personalities and dynamic of the main couple early on. It's quite common for novels attempting to follow this plot structure to either fail to allow for enough time with the characters before the main plot kicks in, which results in later sequences of romantic progression not feeling supported enough to really empathize with or understand, or fail to allocate enough time or integrate the romance later on, which results in the romance feeling sidelined. This novel manages to avoid both pitfalls.

Also helpful is that the novel tends to have fun side characters. Particularly noteworthy are some of the other members of the North Military Academy team and Ren Qingqiu's friends from her past life. Tang Xing and Lin Zhimi have a fun dynamic, and Jing Ran's serious persona occasionally bounces against for the rest of the team well. While we only really get small glimpses of their past feelings and how they've been affected by Li Bei's death, Jing Zhuo, Ye Xian, and especially Kong Youxi all feel like suitably conflicted characters, haunted by the actions and outcomes of the past. Also worth noting is Wen Qi and her teammates, but they moreso act as a well done foil to the events of Li Bei's life moreso than strong characters on their own.

That's not to say the novel's entirely perfect. A few plot threads were sort of awkward or otherwise could have been improved. In general, the students from the other military academies and even the other members of the North Military Academy team seemed to be sidelined quite hard in the second half of the novel. In the first half, they all felt like, if not extremely complicated, at least characters with their own personalities and goals. However, once the third match started and the Li Bei plot began kicking off in earnest, the writing doesn't really balance this aspect well and they end up mostly devolving into just 'the ally who's good at x' and 'the group from the other academy' aside from rare specific times.

I also wouldn't have minded a bit more on Ren Qingqiu's trauma. While Ren Qingqiu isn't exactly an open book, she seems less closed off than Bai Yuxi, and it's clear that in some ways, her trauma still affects her deeply. We get some strong moments when she learns how her former friends see her nowadays and when Bai Yuxi's belief and trust in her deeply warms her heart, but I still can't help but feel like there's just a little bit of extra spark that wasn't quite achieved here. I do appreciate that it's not used in a more melodramatic way, however. I don't mind melodrama at all (in fact I quite enjoy it), but the more subdued way it's done in this book fits the tone and characters a lot better.

I also found the Su Min storyline to be a bit odd. It feels like it's missing a final confrontation or moreso a final wrapup to put a bow on it after the team returns to the North Military Academy at the end. A sort of book ends type moment, where we can compare Bai Yuxi of the past and how she grew over the course of the book. Ultimately moreso than anything specific though, it just seems like the arc ended somewhat oddly.

While this isn't really a critique, unlike the Bai Yuxi/Ren Qingqiu extras, which were great wrapup for Bai Yuxi's remaining insecurities and seeing how their relationship progresses post-story, the Bai Mubei extras were just alright. It allocated enough screentime for the story arc, but fundamentally it still falls into the same trap as the majority of child extras. Ultimately it feels too disconnected from the rest of the story to really excel.

I just reread this novel for the third or fourth time. It’s so good. I love the interactions between the main characters and how RQ is so quick witted. She and BY are the definition of opposites but they’re exactly what each other needs.

Some points I noticed that were cute and kind of grinded my gears!

- Bai Yuxi is raised and from the East but I’m pretty sure she goes to military school in the North because during a flash back Lei Bai at the time says she misses home... more>> (which is in the North). Soooo Cute!!

-The relationship between Kong Youxi and Lei Bai was so ambiguous it still gets under my skin. Even though RQ says nothing happened in terms of an alpha and omega pheromone exchange it makes me wonder if they almost reached that point but because of Kong Youxi’s brothers death it never developed. Ahhhhhh! Author!!

-Next point again has to do with Kong Youxi... during the memorial towards the end I really wish the author would’ve let her tell RQ that she didn’t know about her imprisonment. I don’t believe with RQ personality that a divide would’ve formed between her and BY just because she knew there was someone else who cared for her. Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!

-Last point... Bai Qingxiao... everyone else was willing to admit RQ was Lei Bai but I didn’t understand why she didn’t apologize or even say it under her breath. Her inner monologue admitted to it and even approved more because she knew how exceptional Lei Bai was so she’d treat her daughter well...

Anyways I’m sorry for my rant... haha either way I really enjoyed the story overall and I hope you do too! <<less

This story was great overall. The main couple is well fleshed out and their interactions were fun.

I quite enjoyed the emotional development of Bai Yuxi, it was actually refreshing to see how she approached her feelings and it was a sudden moment that made everything click. Even by the end she still had her flaws which I think show the depth of her character.

The only thing I would critique is the extras stories, I loved most of them, but I felt that the author left out the the MC and... more>> FL too much during Mubei's arc. I just felt it was to unreasonable for the story to develop the way it did as well.

Overall it was a good read and as someone who barely knows about the Omegaverse genre, I thought it was a good way to dip my toes into it.

Cheers for the translations! <<less
