After Marrying the Disabled Crown Prince of the Enemy Country

Le Zhi, the little princess of country Li, is charming and beautiful, and she looked like a begonia.

However, once her country was destroyed, she crawled out of the hell on earth by stepping on the bones of the dead and was brought back to the enemy’s country Qi by Huo Xu, a childhood sweetheart and a thankless wretch, who had entered the country Li as a prince sent to be held as a hostage from a young age.

Huo Xu looked at her with affection, “Zhizhi, help me bring the Crown Prince down. You will be my only Empress in the future.”

Le Zhi pretended to put down her blood feud and smiled to agree.

Huo Du, the Crown Prince of the country Qi, looked like a banished immortal but has a disability in his right leg. He has a sly and ruthless personality with insanely evil behavior.

One day, his imperial father bestowed him a marriage and gave him the princess of the subjugated country.

Huo Du sneered one after another. Huo Xu’s childhood sweetheart? Beauty trap? Tut-tutted, his imperial younger brother was really willing.

He raised his hand to stroke the white cat on his lap lightly, “Oh, you have a toy.”

Huo Xu was a person with a noble and benevolent character on the outside but with an insatiable greed for power, position, and beauty on the inside.

The position of the Crown Prince, his beloved childhood sweetheart… All these were within his grasp.

He was very satisfied.

… Until he was tied to a prison post.

And his imperial elder brother curled his lips and handed the knife to his sweetheart and said with a smile, “Kill him. You can stab as many knives as you want.”

While he was frightened, he saw Huo Du turn the tip of the knife towards his heart and slowly said to Le Zhi, “Or do you want to kill me first? That’s fine too…”

Huo Xu’s eyes trembled. Did he hear it wrong, or his imperial brother is crazy?

The tragedy tag made me reluctant to pick up this gem.

Fortunately I read the comments and persevered thru the tear jerkers as well as OTP's uncertain future, and was rewarded with their beautiful romance & HEA.

It's not perfect, but it pulled ur heartstrings and the author wrapped things up nicely at the end.

Oh my goodness, what a book! It's been said that the hero in a story will sacrifice his love to save the world but Huo Du will sacrifice the world for Le Zhi.

From the beginning to the end their story was incredible. I can only imagine how much better this book would have been if I could have read it in the original Chinese.

This is definitely one of my most favorite books and will be reread with relish.

If any book should be made into a drama series it's definitely this... more>> one.

For Huo Du I could so see Zhang Linghe, Ren Jia Lun, Li Jiu Lin.... Ooooh or Wang Xing Yue

For Le Zhi maybe Zhao Jin Mai, Tan Song Yun, Xing Fei or Bai Lu (I think either of them would do a great job)

And for the main villain Huo Xu I could only picture Liu Xueyi (He would do well from charming to maniacal.) <<less

If you want to read a sweet romance you can try this out! The emotional line is very well written and the development is very nice.

The main emotional drama comes from the fact that the FL’s country was conquered by the ML’s father with the help of the ML’s brother.

As a former princess, she was married off to the crown prince to appease the remnants of her country and their neighboring nations. She can’t forget about how her family and subjects died, but she can’t stop herself from falling in... more>> love with the ML either.

Both the FL and ML are very clear on this. I think this part was very well written, the emotional struggle was well depicted and thoughtful. Part of what made me really like the ML is that he is almost more sensitive about this than the FL, and so he takes care of her heart even when she’s willing to throw it away.

That isn’t to say it happens from the start, though. I was rather surprised when on their wedding night he planned to kill her for being a spy and then actually dislocated her arms! I almost quit then, but he never hurts her again, though he does try to scare her in the beginning.

He falls for her quite quickly though, and treats her better and better. I really liked him as a ML, he’s so considerate and his heart is really hers.

Also, both leads weren’t what I was expecting, as they are in fact batsh*t crazy.

I took this comment from oni because I think it’s spot on:

“I love that we start off with Le Zhi being so Normal and is struggling to keep up with the lunatic crown prince and then the author is just like no she’s also unhinged actually”.

So true, oni.

The ML ignoring pain because he thinks it’s a punishment he deserves; the FL willing to face death and treat herself as a tool if it gets her revenge. They were both normal people who were irrevocably changed by tragedy.

Another interesting thing about this is that this story promotes peace and trade. The ML’s father’s dream is to unite all the countries and tribes into a unified nation, which I’ve seen before as the goal of some protagonists but never seen it depicted as a bad thing, so I thought that was novel.

Other than that, the story and plot were rather lackluster, with some things coming out of nowhere or just seemingly childish and unrealistic. The translation was okay, understandable but not fluent.

I give this a 3.8 or a 4, maybe. Try it out if you want romance, I was satisfied in that aspect! <<less

The novel is not that bad, it's my expectation that's too high because the comments was hyping this especially the ending and the romance but everything about this novel is mediocre..

If you have read many Chinese romance masterpieces before reading this you will understand what I'm talking about

this novel target audience is probably a bunch of underage readers who just discovered "romance" or those people where their standard for "great" romance was an anime show that has only 12 episodes thus the low "standard"

the "romance" that everyone is hyping.

Spoiler

the romance felt like unseasoned mashed potato. Their "love" exists because that's what the author intended and you can feel that thru your screen but not the love, it's like watching someone acting in a p*rn movies. The characters and their interactions feels very 2D, FL always had this very exaggerated reaction towards everything, she create her own drama and then cry about it.. And they get into stalemate for the tiniest reason and expect each other to understand without speaking.

you could tell they're fictional characters which didn't evoke any emotion within my soul.

honestly my face was numb throughout this novel and I end up skimming after chapter 50.

[collapse]

the ending

Spoiler

they decided to live like a normal couple in a small town, had twins.. Everything is centered on the mains couple, side characters ending was briefly mentioned. If that's your standard for best ending please read more,

ML

Spoiler

doting and cold, I actually really like the ML he's head over heels for her and that's one of my favorite trait, but I felt like he only fell for the FL because she was the protagonist.

This novel wouldn't be a such a disappointment if I don't have any expectations or if my previous novel weren't such a well crafted masterpiece of art so I can't help but feel underwhelmed <<less

Hi dropping this novel because the story doesn’t suit my taste.

Spoiler

just wanted to add that there’s physical violence by the ML against the FL. He dislocated her arm.

[collapse]

i didnt see it mentioned by any of the other reviews so I was kind of shocked when I read it. It’s possible it only happened once so it wasn’t mentioned but I still feel it should be highlighted cause I personally might not have read it if I had known.

Premise + Plot Execution: 3

This was an ok novel. Mediocre at best. It was an interesting premise, yet it seemed like the author failed to do it justice. The pacing felt too fast. Most of the scenes weren't fleshed out well. The plot points didn't have cohesion. It felt abrupt moving from one arc to another. The characters seemed quite hollow. I felt like considering this is an ancient setting, there would be more adhering to ancient rules, like filial piety. The Crown Prince never goes to court. The FL never goes to show greetings to the Empress after marrying in. Maybe it might be because of her being from the enemy country.

There were supernatural elements that seemed very out of place, like the author just added them for their own convenience. It felt like an undissolved sugar cube in soup.

The FL is not like other revenge-seeking, vicious ones. She is quite brave and strong, but not overwhelmingly so that it makes her OP. She is very average. For a 16 year old girl, her actions, thoughts all seem apt; especially considering that she was pampered heavily just merely months ago.

Unlike other FLs of the tragedy genre, the events of her life doesn't dull her to the point where she becomes a cold iceberg who can't love, enjoy life, etc. And neither does she become an overnight goddess at money-making, strategy forming, etc. I liked her for that. It was new, it was interesting. It felt more acceptable. (Not like I mind OP FLs.)

I loved the ML. Like, head-over-heels, in love with him. Pining, worshiping, yearning, wanting. I wouldn't have completed this novel, if not for him (and the fact that I didn't want to add more to my DNF list). Every single word, action, thought, expression of his, I adored. The steamy scenes were very steamy because of his unparalleled hotness.

My only issue was the fact that his leg gets fixed. But he is an CN ML— it's expected.

This is an heavy plot: betrayal, conspiracies, assassinations, etc. But it's only 99 chapters. So you can presume how much the author really squeezed everything together. The author is very good at writing slice of life romance, but meets short at political intrigue and plot dense stories.

I really couldn't associate with the villains. Nor could I empathize with the disadvantaged characters. As I said, every character other than the ML and FL are very 2D.

This novel is not bad, but it's not that great either. Considering the fact that novels are all just mind-numbing junk, this is even more junk-y. It's not worth the while if you are coming for a masterpiece in the likes of Eastern Palace.

It's perfectly bit-sized to waste your time. <<less

This novel is definitely a nice and easy read with its heartwarming love tale intertwined with political intrigue. Yet, it's not all sunshine and roses. Some may find the political intrigue a tad underwhelming. While the twists are thrilling, there were moments when the plot felt a bit too contrived.

A beautiful story with characters growth.

Both the MC and ML is a beautiful person inside and out. Despite the painful past, both of them is strongly moving forward for revenge. Both of them think that they're bad for each other but actually they just like a missing puzzle pieces.

i can’t believe I hesitated that much before starting this novel! It’s been on my plan to watch list for a long time. Maybe because there was no characters on the cover picture 🤣

This is actually a really good story with great characters. The ML gradually transitions from someone who doesn’t give any meaning to his life to someone with goals and hope. The FL, I just love her. She is so smart and isn’t a damsel in destress although she lived her whole life as a pampered princess!

For a... more>> romance novel, the plot is very interesting with developed context and character backstories.

and this is one of the best written endings so satisfying and heartwarming 😍😍

I recommend this novel !!!❤️

The chapters are long and satisfying.

AND THE TRANSLATION IS JUST WOW really I’ve read a lot and this is hands down one of the best C-Novel translations. <<less

Ok.. First of, I never write review even though the one I read are good and great but this one I can't help but write review about it.

Trigger warning:: Get a box of tissues for use, cause you will shed a tears of joy, pain and the bitter sweetness of their love and relationship.

At first I thought there will be many anguish but it's a sweet one instead, the romance between the MC and ML is so good even though there's a wall between them. I love how both the... more>> characters are clear headed and know what they want.

I love how the ML treat the MC even though he also has a painful past, he is still caring and understand her. SUCH A SWEET MALE LEAD HE IS.

Both the ML and FL are so sweet and caring toward each other, even though the FL has hidden agenda which the ML knew it from the start. This is such a great one to read, I don't even know what to write other than that you will not regret it.. This is not like other revenge plot where there is a deep scheme where blood is shed everywhere or the depressed ML who has disabled leg and has sh*t temper, instead you'll find a caring and understanding one instead. And the FL is also not like others who is weak minded, she is kind although she is weak she is determined in taking her revenge for her family and people. She is open minded although she doesn't understand the ML at first I love how she started to care for the ML and tried to understand him more.

Their love is bitter sweet but with a fluff giving us a sweet treat at the same time gives us a bitter treat making us cry. <<less

Absolutely revere reading the love story between Brother Du and Zhi Zhi. 💖💖 I have read it twice.

Though their meeting was under the Imperial Decree, betrayal and hardship, they're able to find love in each other as they are each other's first love.

The world belongs just for the 2 of them. Their affection and devotion to each other are truly pure and sweet; and make it very enjoyable to read.

It was good. Not great and not bad. The plot was ok, the side characters lacked development and depth.

I read a lot of novels. But I have never read about a FL that cried as much as this one.

anyway. It's a good novel to read when you have nothing else to.

Pretty good historical novel, very heartwarming/fluffy. No angst (at least in my opinion).

I greatly enjoyed the proactive MC. She's openly a schemer and goes after what she wants. Even though she's shy at times, she still does what needs to be done and takes initiative at parts of the romance. I also enjoyed the romance, the way the ML falls for her is pretty clearly written, step-by-step.

In many ways, the novel is quite modern in its morals since there exists a country who doesn't mistreat the servants and advocate mutual... more>> respect/monogamy. Another great plus is that most of the other female characters in the novel are actually not evil and the blame was rightly put on the society and those in power.

The first half was greatly more enjoyable for me than the second half.

A couple things that could have been improved..

Spoiler

we all know the MC and ML have a tragic past, but the author legit makes the MC cry every other chapter. Seriously. Every single time. It really gets old.

Sure we can have a crybaby MC who is also strong, but it would have been nice if the text had called out the fact that she was shedding tears every freaking day instead of writing it like every time she cried was an unusual unmatched event or something.

[collapse]

Also the author seemed to have forgotten what they wrote earlier in the novel

Spoiler

there were two instances of duplicate scenes - two times that the MC turned seventeen, and there was a huge emotional scene about the MC being true to her feelings and being intimate with the ML without considering their identities "for the first time" which was blatantly untrue.

Author had already written an almost identical scene with almsot identical emotional payoff that was "for the first time" previously. It was like the author didn't know how to make scnees have emotional impact without contrived misunderstandings and some kind of "never before had this been done" setup.

And finally, both MC and ML are absolutely awful at communicating. MC would blame the ML for keeping silent or walking away too quickly, girl you legit did the same thing to him in a previous scene?

Which led to almost half of the plot points existing solely because of their lack of communication. So not a huge fan of that setup, kind of like the author ran out of ideas on how to drag on the tension in their romance so they had to default to that.
[collapse]

And finally, ML is a bit too OP. There's legit nothing that can topple him in the storyline (except himself), so I wouldn't read this story if you wanted actual power plays/politics or even dramatic tension.

Which would put this novel solidly in the romance category with almost all the plot points meant to move forward the romance and very little else.

finally, baby

Spoiler

is also "treasure" and can be translated as "darling" or someone who is "treasured" aka, beloved/dearest all work to match the historical context instead of the modern "babe" pls.

Actually, one of the things I don't like is that they don't explain where Huo Du's power comes from. He's powerful and that's it. There are spies even in my house, even tunnels in other people's houses, and it's not explained properly. I also don't understand why he left the empress alive for so long, after what she did to his sister.

Another thing that annoys me is Le Zhi. I liked her at first, but then I just wanted her to disappear. She doesn't know what she wants out of life. Huo Du is incredibly patient with her. She wants revenge, but she shows very little of her actually going after it. The only time she's shown her actually getting revenge is with the general. And another thing, Le Zhi kept saying that she was going to kill the emperor, but you don't see her planning it or explaining how she's going to do it, and yet she's sure that she can kill the emperor. And with all this happening, she still tries to ignore her feelings for Huo Du. I say trying because how can you say that you don't like someone and then keep letting them grab you and kiss you? So she runs away and keeps talking about how he's the son of the enemy and that she wants to kill his father, and so on. In the beginning, this is valid, but this thing continues until the end of the story. I couldn't stand her asking the same question all the time, and that's when she's already slept with him. Where does that make sense?

Anyway, there are only a few chapters left to finish the story, but I can't stand reading this anymore. I saw the ending through the spoilers in the comments.

The romance is great. FL and ML pair really well together and have great chemistry. I also really love the enemies-to-allies-to-lovers thing they had going on, not to mention the happiest, fluffiest ending. But overall it just didn't make me stare into the distance in utter awe and go "OMG that was AMAZING!!" like I usually do with my 5-star reads. Would definitely steal recommend this though for those who like palace intrigue without too much blood/schemes.

Genuinely loved this gem of a novel! Unfortunately I took a bit of a break in between while reading so I don't remember some of the details, but I god their romance was just DONE SO WELL. The author did not shy away from their struggles of their past and their personal motivations for the actions (especially for the FL). It was heartbreaking at times but damn just done really well overall.

I do wish there were some questions answered, but for the most part, all the threads were tied up... more>> well! Plus the extras were just perfect! Honestly my only question was
Spoiler

why the FL's sister-in-law did and said what she did. Maybe I'm just dumb and we were supposed to figure it out from the sub-text, idk.

I read this firstly because of the Male lead's name😅. Second, I was curious. This is a rare novel where the FL suffers and wants revenge but doesn't die and be reborn, regress or transmigrate to be able to achieve that. So far, this was a really good read. Although I would have liked it more if the author took time to write how each side characters ended up in their happy ending and not just explain it in a 1-2 sentences.
