After Marrying the Villain, I Became Popular

Xia Wan transmigrated into a novel and became the unfortunate cannon-fodder character who was cheated on by the s*umbag protagonist.

When he transmigrated, he found himself at the s*umbag protagonist’s engagement banquet and surrounded by people mocking and humiliating him.

Desperate, he instinctively grabbed the most powerful and intimidating man in the room and quietly asked for help.

As the room fell into shocked silence, the man, who was so incredibly handsome that he almost didn’t seem real, slightly narrowed his bright, starry eyes. A small smile played on his lips as he effortlessly pulled Xia Wan into his arms.

Later, Xia Wan learned that the handsome man who had held him so tightly was none other than Huo Yu—the s*umbag protagonist’s older brother and the novel’s biggest villain.

To survive, Xia Wan nervously signed a marriage contract with Huo Yu.

In front of the people, he would smile sweetly, kiss Huo Yu’s cheek, and lavish him with praise:

“My husband loves me the most!”

“My husband is so amazing!”

“I love my husband very much!!!”

However, behind the closed doors, Xia Wan would quietly slander his new husband.

Damn, that clean freak, he wouldn’t even let him give a proper kiss.

No wonder he’s the heir of a wealthy family—so cold and ruthless.

…..

Huo Yu has a cold personality. He always acts ruthlessly and will do anything to achieve his goals.

But ever since that engagement party, the moment when a breathtakingly beautiful young man had clung to him for help, something had changed.

At first, Huo Yu went along with it purely out of formality:

“Wanwan is kind and innocent. What bad intentions could he possibly have?”

“Wanwan is my little angel. Everything he says is right.”

“Wanwan is my beloved. Who dares to touch him?”

But somewhere along the way, those words stopped being just formalities.

Now Huo Yu protected Xia Wan so fiercely, that if anyone who dared to lay a finger on him would have to pay with their life.

Paranoid black belly, beauty and strong attack X squeamish, cute, prosperous beauty

the pacing is seriously odd, especially at the beginning. MC adapted super quickly to his new life. og body was timid and a bit gloomy but no one found it weird that he suddenly became cheerful and playful. I also have problems with mc's grandpa and aunt. I really wanna smack them. ... more>>
Spoiler

grandpa didn't accept mc's mom because she was poor and crawled her way up. she was really good at her job and married mc's father. she worked even harder even after she had 2 children bc everyone looked down on her thanks to grandpa. when they lost MC, grandpa was furious and blamed her, because she worked so hard she abandoned the children. oh this old slimy bastard. you f*cking think with your wrinkly toes why she had to work so hard. I also found it funny that he hated her but had no problems loving his grandsons. what's funnier? he was a poor villager who crawled his way up too and married a rich family's daughter. oh you hypocritical bastard. it's really not a loss if he died.

mc's aunt is... pragmatic in the most annoying way. she is a celebrity's manager, one of her stars was ml's ex-friend. ex-friend was in love with ML and had been persuaded by his father to expose ml's whereabouts that had almost lead to ml's death. ex-friend had been horrified and told ML the truth right away hence becoming ex-friend. when ml's family slandered him saying he was a white-eyed wolf for not appreciating his family's "grace and parenting", ex-friend stood up for him, revealing his role in the process. mc's aunt nagged him to death. saying he looked down on everything his staff had worked hard for. when ex-friend said he just couldn't let the victim be smeared like this, mc's aunt reminded him that this was pointless, ML had already married someone else. b*tch, maybe he just wanted to do the right thing?? have you ever thought of that? huh?? she only stopped nagging once there were people supporting ex-friend. sun baijiang my baby, I hope you can move on and find happiness.

it's really... this is a rather simple story with typical main characters but the side characters annoyed me to death. <<less

Have you ever read something that started off good but ended up lacking so much?

First of all, I love transmigration novel and face slapping so I thought I would enjoy this one. I was also happy how the author decided to really describe the Xue family on how they try to prove XW’s identity unlike other novel that I’ve read.

ML is nice and all. MC is also funny but now goes my complaints.

Spoiler

One and the foremost that I can’t comprehend is how easy the adoptive father XCZ got away with everything. Yes he saved OG MC. Yes he might not be aware that OG MC is from rich family Xue. Yes that XCZ is having depression.

BUT! THAT DID NOT EXCUSE YOU TO TAKE SOMEONE CHILD FOR FFK 18 years!

AND! I hate how the author just erased the OG MC feeling. Normally in other novel, the MC will address something like

”I can’t say much because the real MC has gone.” Etc etc

but noooo — he decided that he had the right to forgive the adoptive father? Like, fine, it’s better than to be vengeful all the time, but this?!!

YES YOU ARE SELFISH OMFG (MC)

And also that last part with the villain who asked for the 5mn? Come one, stop being karma and such when you are not even in the f*cking jail. You could give the money and maybe ML’s arm would not be hit, you know. Unnecessary drama imo.

And for this kidnapping thing, the irony that the reason why biological parents “forgive” the adoptive father is cause they thought XW has grown cheerful and amazing person. If only they knew how adoptive father “killed” their own son in the first place until MC came.

So yes, doesn’t matter what, I’ll stand with what I said. MC is f*cking selfish. Dad is playing victim. There. Done

And, we have the MC who was so good in drawing but later on it was like ignored? Idk, I just feel like MC is bit Mary Sue. He can draw? He can design jewellery? Thankfully he’s not good with housework at first otherwise it will be weird.

[collapse]

Anyway, I love ML and his story background is everything. Other than that, I’m glad I’ve survived 91 chapters of this. <<less

This could’ve gone so much better had MC taken the ogXW into consideration.
Spoiler

OgXW died a miserable death, which tbh, the catalyst was the father kidnapping him when he was a child. It’s so unbelievable that the kidnapper got away with his crimes on the basis the MC had a ‘happy childhood’? He absolutely did not. He was timid, and bullied his whole life.

It’s definitely frustrating thinking about this.

I think it's between 3.5-4 stars for me.

It's a good mix of family business, entertainment/showbiz, marriage contract, and transmigration into cannon fodder tropes. Many cliche moments and the story is not so different from any other novels. I still enjoyed it tho. Mostly talk about family problems, either from MC's side or ML's. MC was from a good rich family in his previous life, he's talented in painting and jewelry design. But he's also doing a mukbang live streaming lmao I find it really funny. Still, he's the OP MC... more>> like any transmigration MC ever. He does face hardships but it doesn't have that much dog blood going on compared to other novels. What can I expect it's just a regular modern day transmigration story after all.. ML on the other hand, doesn't have that much of a high standing yet at the beginning. So it's kinda refreshing, I guess?

It's lighthearted and fun, but it also has many touching moments especially with MC's father. I teared up a little bit in some parts. The relationship between characters stands out the most in the story rather than the faceslapping and career growth plot. The marriage thing is not so important, only to promote feelings between MC and ML <<less

Ah, I want to give this a better score but honestly even though this novel tetters between mindless fluff and turn your brain off. There are some major things that make reading the second half a bit unbearable and there are alot of character interactions that just leave a bad taste in your mouth when everything is finished.

So MC's dad apparently kidnapped him when he was 2. From the beginning of the novel there's this over emphasis on how the MC and the dad love each other so much. Then the dad who is already crippled (he lost both his legs) gets cancer. So the MC spends a good portion of the book taking care of him. When it comes out that the dad kidnapped him its honestly kind of disgusting the way it's handled. It's essentially like yeah this man kidnapped the MC but he loves him and he tried to give him everything so obviously it's okay. Like this man clearly doesn't regret or is sorry that he kidnapped the MC, he's sorry he got caught. And it's kind of disgusting how the MC's original family is forced to make nice and cater to this man WHO KIDNAPPED THEIR CHILD because they worry that if they don't the MC won't want them in his life. Like the book goes on and on about just how much the MC's original family loves him and looked for him. It talks about how the mom became physically and mentally unwell from losing her son. It's disgusting that there are scenes in the book where the MC's dad says point blank to her face that he thought of his illness as the payment for kidnapping the MC and that since he had this it meant the MC's orig family wouldn't appear but here she is. It's disgusting that the author essentially robbed the family of their right to anger because "Oh, this man is sick, and crippled and he loved the MC" "He's a good man" like no, those aren't excuses for KIDNAPPING A CHILD. Yeah, he's mentally unwell but again that's not an excuse. He should have gotten some punishment but the novel refuses to do this and instead keeps trying to tell us that he's a good man. The novel could have easily changed a few things it this was the way they wanted to go, they could easily have said that the MC's dad had found him lost on the train since originally the MC had been lost at the train station. They could have said that MC's dad saved the MC from the human traffickers in the station parkinglott in his home town. There were a million ways they could have gone about this where instead of outright kidnapping the MC he had saved him and then since he lived in such a remote location and noone recognized the MC he just adopted him. If you are going to make the MC's loving crippled sick dad a kidnapped, at least commit to the plot don't flipping reward the dad for kidnapping a child, cause that's what happened this man is essentially rewarded for kidnapping since he never gets any consequences but instead his loving son pays for his cancer treatment, gives him a new home, gives him another new home, gets back his lost company and generally just keeps this man alive

despite saving MC at first, but he eventually kidnapped him. And then it just swept under the rug because he was lonely and ill? I mean yes, there's no use of holding grudges when it won't do any good to MC but it just left some bitter taste, I'm not relieved because the whole kidnapping situation was quite romantized. The dad who adopted MC pampered MC but he's so selfish, he knows that he has toxic relatives and he's not capable of protecting MC but he's delusional he's can provide MC a healthy environment to grow up with? OgMC literally grew up as a person with no self-esteem and easily manipulated by his uncle and cousin because his so-loving dad is foolish enough to be still connected with them despite of his relatives being shady. This is the reason why I only gave 4 instead of 5 because I'm unresolved for the ogMC, his dad knows he's not some abandoned child, has a family who worries for him, and that said family can actually provide a better future given that the kid wore some branded clothes and looked healthy, but the dad was really selfish, there's no other words. All these lead to ogmc's miserable end so I can't forgive the dad. It would've been better if he had realized his mistake first, actually had a plan to confess, and proactively told the MC the truth to ask for forgiveness, and atone, reflect but what do you expect? He's a coward, he just waited for mc's family to resolve it all which eventually force him to reveal the truth. It made me think that he's not actually remorseful, he's just sorry he got caught. I'm only sorry for the MC and his family especially the mom. The funny thing is that the villains didn't annoyed me this much lol

Anyway, I just love the MC and ml, their relationship and all so I would still recommend this. <<less

This novel is not bad in general, but by the author's treatment of the kidnapping of a young child as something that can be justified by sadness, I consider it bad, senseless and even harmful. I won't spend in detail, because the other reviewers have described it well.

In any case, in my opinion, mitigating such a horrible crime is disgusting and crosses out this book.

The story is good especially the first few chapters. Also, here is no psychological shadow that the story will leave to readers (no r*pe etc). But the story is common and predictable that some of the chapters make me bored.

Typical story where the MC's origin is not what it seems, and there is even a foreshadowing in ch1. The ML is the usual cold on the outside but doting to MC. I still enjoy the story since some chapters make me smiles, but I find the story slow and boring... more>> in the middle up to the latter chapters. Ahem, it's my first time commenting on nu and first I'll thank translator-nim for the amazing chapter ❤️❤️

I.... Don't think I can continue read this book 😅

No offense, the translation is very good and the story itself is very enjoyable (at least until chapter 66), not too much face slapping scene but good enough.

It's just the father.... I can't seem to accept whatever the author thrown into the plot for saving him.. It feels like they trying to make the crime not as serious as it supposed to be... It's... more>> kinda disgusting..

2 star from me, one for the lovely translator and another one for the first half of the book. <<less

Are you f*cking kidding me... His dad kidnapped him as a child and purposefully his him away from his original family for eighteen years ON PURPOSE and he's entirely forgiven because he was sad. Just because this child you stole is the only thing keeping you around doesn't make it okay or understandable or not worth beating the sh*t out of. He talks to the mother who lost her child who blames herself for hiring a nanny who is also victim blamed for f*cking experiencing crime that hes felt that Xia Wan is his kid!!!!! The f*ck!?!! And people are defending him when he lied to this kid and gave him a bracelet to hide his birthmark and let the Xia family ab*se him. He knows that Xia yang is bullying him he knows that his family is using this depressed meek child who he pulled into hell with him and doesn't stand up for him. He is unequivocally the reason original Xia Wan died.

I don’t typically write reviews as I tend to inhale any and every type of story and enjoy them, but this one just doesn’t sit right with me. After reading 38 chapters I just don’t really want to continue this because I can see where this is going. MC seemed likable to me at first, but as someone who is on his second life I just feel like he’s way too naive and forgiving? And since it’s basically confirmed who his family is I have to say I’m super disappointed... more>> because I can already tell that the person who did wrong will get off without any issue. The MC claims to have loved his family in his original world, but for some reason those feeling don’t apply to his real family in the new world? But somehow the random dad he inherited deserves all of his love and forgiveness?? He’s a transmigrator so there actually no reason for him to have such strong feelings for a dad that he essentially has known for less than a year. Is it just because he’s sick and crippled? I was just super lost on that to be honest. And, I can only imagine how that poor mother feels after everything she had to go through for YEARS. It’s kind of ridiculous. It paints the MC in a bad light for me because people are suffering in silence because of him. And again, he claims to have loved his original family so so much. So yeah, DNF. Gave it 2 stars because it started off good and the ML isn’t bad. He’s nothing really special or anything. Kind of typical, but he was the only thing that let me hang on that long. <<less

It's correct, average. Its what you expect it to be but a bit less so I can only recommend to read this only if you have nothing else.

Protagonist are cute and their banter is nice but...

There is a lot of little annoyance for me.

    • There is no surprise on the plot. What you anticipate to happen, happens. And it's always positive for MC that it's become even a bit too much.
    • The premise of who is Xia Wan is completely transformed by the end of the story to give us the "everything is fine and happy". Multiple times in the first chapters we're told that ogXW is a poor sad, depressed with low self estimed who was bullied by his cousins and uncle, and people in his original school and how miserable he was (take pity really) but by the end of it (to minimize the "dad" action I assume) we're told that his childhood with his kidnapper was a lifeline, happy, a haven... like what ?
    • I will not even touch the kidnapping bit, everybody comment on it. My opinion will not differ. It's so badly used and I'm still wondering if it was even necessary when he was marrying the badass CEO on a revenge quest who destroy everyone on his way. I think it was to put them in an "equal" stance but it's too much. I could have accept that if the MC was not already a super internet star internationally recognized painter. Can we stop at some point ?
    • There is too many plot that exist just to exist. I dont think MC being famous online, a paint genius or jewelry genius was that important. It was too much actually, even more when it's used for a few chapters and doesn't really bring much. All the ending with the internet scandal and people talking online is absolutely skippable, doesn't bring anything at all and change the format of the story. All the relationship between Shen Xing and Fu Ling went absolutely nowhere... Shen Yan and Tangtang at least can be a minimum exploit with Huo Yu decision to not make the same mistake as Shen Yan. So I think there is at least 20 chapters that could have been avoid if there was a real reflexion on what is pertinent to the plot.
    • Too many characters, some with absolutely no impact on the story, could have been a no name (I'm thinking of you people of the art gallery)
Untimely I didn't have a bad time. But it's reading a bit like a fan fiction. Of course the thing happen and of course everything is always good for MC and of course by the end of it he can be batman if he wants too.

So yeah I was a bit disappointed but not really surprised.

Pleasant 3.5/5 read.

(I actually preferred the tone of the beginning as it quickly became generic fluff, but that was still pretty pleasant and easy to read.)

You get what you expect with this story:

... more>> - Transmigrated into a novel character who was the shunned ex of the novel's scummy MC/ML

- ML gong who is secretly powerful at business and also cold and hard until he warms up to the MC

- MC shou who is sweet and cheerful and talented in the arts

- Scheming MC relatives

- Scheming ML relatives

- MC and ML being most attractive and admired and basically winning at everything

I went into this knowing that it is this kind of story and what sort of flaws, tropes, attitudes and familar irks I was likely to find, and of course found many of the same old ones.

On the other hand, I found it to be a more relaxing version of this genre than many. The writing didn't rot my brain - in fact, I enjoyed a lot of the interactions between the characters. There are some nice relationships established between the MC and others around him, such as his dormmates, and a lot of the supporting characters don't feel quite as superficial as I've come to expect (e.g. a couple of people in housekeeper-type roles who spend most of the time just being housekeepery do get mentions of having children or partners as if they have a life beyond what we see).

Despite it happening far too easily, I appreciated that this is an MC who does forge his own way through his own talents and makes plans for himself, and given more natural agency in the story than to simply make the poweful ML fall in love with him and fix everything. He and the ML don't become conscious of falling in love too quickly, but neither did it feel dragged out to an unnecessary degree, and it's nice to see an enthusiastic shou... if you know what I mean.

The ML is also a pleasantly mild version of the stereotypical cold and powerful ML, and he's given lots of reasons to have developed that way. He generally doesn't feel actually domineering in their relationship but instead quite warm, and we get some insight into his emotions and growth. I especially appreciated that the MC's family was treated his own family rather than just being jealous of anyone who takes away the MC's attention.

So, while not without some standard flaws and things I'd rather not be there, I found the relationship in this one to be written in a pretty warm and harmonious way.

This is the general tone of the story. The scheming villains tend to be gradually dealt with over time in a way that feels important to the story but doesn't dominate, rather than bring face-slapped only to tediously pop up again and again. There are some lively moments throughout the story and lots of warm moments (as well as the predictable things). I was able to enjoy this as just a modest lightweight time-passer that was fairly easy to read and was written in a way where its flaws and irks weren't too much for me to gloss over while I read. <<less

Not rated as I have dropped this novel.

It's a combination of odd pacing and average translation.

The story is quite confusing at times, which I believe is down to the translation quality - although I would still thank the translators for making the effort to translate. Perhaps a proofreader/editor or two would be beneficial.

The pacing of the novel is also a bit awkward. I like the mc's personality, but no one really seems to be calling him out on his complete personality change. It's been mentioned by one or two characters,... more>> but it's such a drastic change that I would have thought it would have been raised more. The ML also seems to be falling/interested a bit too quickly, which can be fine, but I think it's difficult to grasp possibly due to the translation. <<less

its enjoyable but not memorable.

It has a healthy dynamic between the couple and no misunderstandings at all. The MC also communicates well. There are some questionable moments but otherwise its all good.

As I see more often, you can't trust reviews and other people opinions on books.

I genuinely liked it. ML and MC are sweet, MC is not s*upid and his IQ and EQ are high, he understands what he wants and what he doesn't want. ML is my favourite type of possessive cold character, who blooms into smile because of MC. Overall the story is sweet, almost fluff with some sprinkles of tragic past to enhance the flavour.

About adoptive father of MC, who gained so much attention from reviewers and somehow downed rating of this novel on the site: he is written very realistically, and in my opinion the reaction of MC is realistic too. As MC is a combination of OG MC memories and MC's character, MC loves the... more>> father from the first encounter, because OG MC loved him too. As I see it, OG MC is more of an embodiment of an empty shell, as he was submissive and week in character from the childhood (even before he was lost), so MC is selfish in this regard, because all of the feelings for the father came from OG MC. Even if MC didn't "merge" with OG MC's body and somehow his real parents found him (why didn't they found him anyway - because he was just a side book character?) his reaction, I think, would be the same.

Reviewers there are like living in a shell, they're so one track minded about certain things in a story, but in reality these things happens, why can't they happen in a story? There are depressed people, who in their worst times did smt wrong. If you yourself lived with your single father all of your life and love him, even though you don't understand each other completely, would you abandon the bond, that you heart founded through time, difficulties and sickness? I don't think so.

So, I like the story, I like the characters, side characters are pretty lively too. Though it's a strange trend in Chinese novels to make every other character gay unless it's a middle aged pair, but that's okay.

Cute story. <<less

I just want to say,

(Because a lot of people are saying bad about MC father who took him... but MC n his og family forgave him)

Yeah its true our MC didn't have the right to forgive the Father who took him but....

Think of it like this that father cared for him, loved him, and did everything he can for him and thoughtof the MC as his treasure, and the only reason xia Wan before our MC Transmigrated into him was is such a situation, was because the father wasn't in good condition and couldn't watch over him. If you read the later story. The father actually...

our MC when young was Kidnapped by someone else who could have harmed him but the father saved him and (yes it is wrong) couldn't bear to give him back to police but kept him and took care of him as his precious treasure...

and when the original family came for him, he was really remorseful and apologistic about it, but he still loved the MC... A lott..

and you cant blame the MC for forgiveing the guy,.... the Author mentioned it already....

the MC in his original life was so loved and happy and taken care of that he was naturally sweet and kind and a good hearted person..

And since he was to going to continue living in that body and life, it was his decision to live it as he liked + he had also gotten attached to that father before the original family came For him....

Main point he had his Beloved's support no matter what his choice, (Sweet right)

And his og family also forgave the dude because our MC stilled cared about that father, (Basically they loved the MC soo much and for him they forgave someone they hated and wanted to deal with...)

Basically showing in this novel what love is, = love is sweet, kind, forgiving, gentle and brings joy to oneself and everyone around them...❤️💖💫

You can tell where the plot is headed early on. Instead of building anticipation for it, several chapters got annoying instead because it was apparent the author wanted to brush off the kidnapping.

The initially poor childhood of the original MC was given rose-tinted glasses, focusing on how good and self-sacrificing xcz is at raising this child he had no rights to. Utter nonsense. None of the reasons or excuses written justifies knowingly taking a child and keeping him from his family for 18 years.

The usual transmigration story. Not the best but also not that bad.

The same as other protagonist in many transmigration novel, Xia Wan, the main character, is the most OP. He can design jewelry (though this didn't matter in the end), he can become the popular mukbang anchor in a short time (again, this also didn't matter in the end), and also the painter with amazing capability (this did matter, but not by much). All in all, Xia Wan is all in one go. He's the best... more>> of the best that you could get and no one can stand against him. Except for our male lead, Huo Yu. Again, the usual cold, aloof, distant male lead, who is only nice and warm with the main character. The typical genius with sad back story.

It feels like all the same transmigration always have the same plot: get revenge because of sad past, have secret identity later on (in which Xia Wan is part of this, and no, this is not spoiler since the summary already spoiled it), or to be the most powerful person in existence. For this novel, all of them present. It's like buy 1 get all type of situation.

Despite my somehow bad impression, the story itself was not that bad. At least, it's easy to read and there's no dull moment. I still think it's too long for it's simple or almost non-existent plot, but I do love both Xia Wan and Huo Yu. All the other characters become insignificant, and even though I was actually very curious about Su Tang and Shen Yan's story, but I guess they have their own book, because it was left hanging with no explanation at the end.

Overall, it's a decent read. <<less
