In his past life, the beta Su Liang dared to seduce Lu Zhizhao, the future of the Lu family, and eloped.

In the end, after burning down all his boats with no hesitation, Su Liang realized that he was nothing but a big joke.

Su Liang gave up everything, and died silently on the day after Lu Zhizhao’s marriage to someone else.

Reliving a life, the courageous fool of that year finally learned to accept his fate.

This time, Su Liang honestly accepted that he was an unfavoured and mediocre beta, feeling that this bland and undemanding life was quite good.

After all, the way of the salted fish is the best way.

But after just a few peaceful days, he was sent into the forbidden area, in the depths of the noble’s compound.

Lu Taipan – who used to be a big boss, is now a big boss, who will always be the kind of sinister and ruthless big boss who would make everyone tremble with fear when he comes out.

However, it was this top-level alpha who single-handedly supported the Lu Family, but suffered from pheromone disorder.

And, the place where he rested, was a forbidden place in the eyes of everyone.

No matter how many things Su Liang thought about, he didn’t expect Lu Taipan to embrace him in the frenzy of his pheromone disorder.

Then, he bit the back of his neck with a single bite.

“Your pheromones…. smells good.”

The devil-like man, like a beast, scented the pheromones on his body, and muttered greedily.

Su Liang was horrified to discover that Lu Taipan and him became more and more intimate. He, who was supposed to be a beta, somehow began to develop unusual pheromone glands.

From a beta, he was now an omega.

Moreover, he was an omega who matched perfectly with Lu Taipan.

Pretty good read actually. The plot itself is quite interesting and the MC and ML do love each other and have some respect for each other. The extras are cute! (Except the 1st one that is).

It's just that I can't really agree on the author stamping the ex as a s*um gong. The ex was really just there as a comparison and contrast to ML, to highlight how capable and good ML is. The ex really wasn't a scum, at least not at first before the blackening and going crazy.... more>> He was really sincere to MC and he was willing to go through hardship for him. It was just that he was a naive young fool and got tricked instead because of the environment they are in. Honestly the real villain here is the white lotus and Lu/Ning family. MC's and his relationship was a tragedy because of the intervention of the Lu and Ning family.
Spoiler

(at least without of those corrupt b*tches the MC and ML would have been happily married with each other, at least if MC didn't realize he didn't "love" the ex. In fact I think the author making MC never love the ex is quite abrupt. I mean it kinda make sense but I smell that the author just want to cater to the "you are actually my first love" trope and make it easier to stomp on the ex, all just my opinion though)

[collapse]

The ex's journey is actually more complex than the ML. His blackened self is, in fact, quite similar to an archetype blackened CN protagonist. Really he could have his own story as an MC and the story would not be much different from most novels with the same blackened MC trope
Spoiler

rebirthed blackened MC who had been tricked all his life and had the love of his life suffer trying to win back his love and get his life on track.

[collapse]

It was just that in the later part of the story the author inserted s*um gong qualities (delusional, etc) to him, quite forcefully I think, and purposely make everyone hate him for something he shouldn't be faulted on. It was like the author is dead set on setting even the young naive him as the villain even if it contradicts his initial character (even the ML has stated that the unblackened ex was actually not a bad person in early chapters). People was made to believe that this guy is evil inside out and nothing he does is ever good. He is a different kind of tragedy and honestly I am kinda sad for him.

Spoiler

Like, what's up with the author suddenly blaming him for stepping on 2 boats??? He has stated since the start that he never thought of white lotus that way and has repeatedly been confirmed in the novel, yet somehow the author keep making every single character never believe they are never entangled that way. He really thought white lotus was his chilhood friend, even considered a best friend, who is kind and considerate, he wouldn't have thought that bit*h wanted to harm anyone, not just because of his naivety but also immaturity. He didn't even understand that his insistence to be with his beloved would bring him danger.

I also couldn't accept blaming him for marking white lotus and the pregnancy. It was r*pe but the author make people scoff at him like an irresponsible s*um who would throw things once he got what he want. He f*cking wasn't. Hell I know there are a lot of novels out there portraying such a scenario happening to the main character that made the MC hate the rapist and make the bit*h suffer. So why is it that the author feels like it is very convenient to put the blame on the victim instead? Honestly he deserve more of an ending.

Even then, I don't think the ex's obsession is out of place, because man that guy has gone through shit. It doesn't justify what he has done after blackening, but simply stamping him as s*um through and through is quite unfair.

As other commenter has said, ML won because he is an adult. A very powerful one with freaking high status at that, who the MC just happens to fall for. He was already a full power OP character, even with the "madness", while the ex was just a kid with minimal influence who is used as a tool by his father. Unsurprisingly ML won because he was able to make MC feel secure and safe from the Lus and Nings while the ex didn't have the means to do so.

Also, what happened to other villains like the Lus, why are they not mentioned later as if every single thing that happened in the novel is the fault of the 2 biggest villains which include the ex, like nah other villains except these 2 I determined as the biggest villains are irrelevant. The ex really got a huge pot out of nowhere, even taking his father's. I just think the author dumps everything on him because it is convenient.

it's alright. Sometimes it gets long-winded (the usual repetitive descriptions of beautiful appearances, intimidating aura, etc. Etc.). I kinda (kinda because he later assaulted MC several times) pity the s*um gong;

Spoiler

in the first life, s*um gong eloped with MC. Their assets were frozen and they were repeatedly forced to move houses and couldn't get decent jobs because s*um gong's family blocked them. Later, MC got really sick and needed medcare. The gong finally gave up; he went back to negotiate things with his family and fiancé's family. He was really idiotic, not having any suspicions that his family and fiancé weren't being honest and instead sabotaging his relationship with MC (intercepting his calls and faking mc's voice to make him believe that MC was fine). His family ofc didn't let him go back to MC. His fiancé proposed to him that as long as they got married, gave birth to an heir, he could go back and live together with MC. But MC died two days after his wedding. He went mad and did researches to revive MC. ML finally stopped him.

in this second life, his memories kept flickering between his first and second life and his mental conciousness suffered. MC later admitted that he wasn't actually in love with this s*um gong. He (SG) was also drugged and r*ped by his fiancé. The drug was undetectable, so people kept jeering at him; no one believed him when he said he was drugged and thinking he was just the typical irresponsible s*um alpha. His fiancé's gland was stolen from a girl who could've had a high matching rate with him.

dude had a really rough life; I would've jumped off a building once I knew I was made fun of after getting r*ped by my childhood friend. But he persevered until the end by sheer madness and his obssession with MC. He really lost his sanity by the end of the story. Such a pity.

+MC and ml's love, compared to mc's and his ex was like heaven and hell, but the effortlessness and inevitability of mc+ml's love story only made me want to roll my eyes so hard.

[collapse]

lowered my rating to 2 because I can't stand the sanctimonious characters (including mc+ml) getting off scot-free blaming a r*pe victim lollll <<less

hi!!! im the translator here. I absolutely love love love this novel and want to share it with everyone!!!!

You read the synopsis and think, wow, this is one of those cliche omegaverse novels where MC is a beta that turned into omega because omg fateee which is true but also; no!!!

As one of the lovely reviewers here said, the "s*um gong" isn't really a s*um gong. In a kinder world, this would have been a love story where su liang and lu zhizhao find ways to reconcile and trample those... more>> who wronged them, but this isn't a world like that. I absolutely love the characters in this novel; su liang, the beta who foolishly chased after a highly sought after alpha; lu zhizhao, the alpha who tried and constantly fails; ning jiayi, the omega who has everything and yet nothing at all.

I wish for everyone to not be prejudiced against lu zhizhao because of the first few chapters! You've only seen the past from su liang's pov, but what about lu zhizhao's? There's always 2 sides to the same coin. I hope everyone enjoys this story as much as I did! <<less

It's a nice read of my favorites cliches. But the so called s*um gong lessened the sweetness.

Spoiler

He have the typical s*um gong settings wherein he have a sweetheart but also very caring towards his white lotus/green tea btch childhood friend.

But as I read on, I don't find him as hypothetically as the s*um gongs. No, I feel more like he's a victim. A very very sad victim. Everyone pointed at him as a s*um gong on the outside, but seeing how he was driven mad by everyone, I don't feel like he is a s*um gong.

He's just really really naive. So naive that it seems it's a sin. Especially so in the family he was born into. I would usually rage at s*um gongs who couldn't put a clear line towards the bff but in here, I feel like he actually put a clear line but it's just that everyone is lying to him and pressuring him.

I feel so bad for him, I kinda hope the author at least let him go. But no, he have the worst ending. Not even that green tea btch ending was shown clearly. Heck, there's no word about his father. I really sheds tears for him as he slowly lost his mind.

He's so hopeless, everyone is using him, lying to him, and manipulating him. When MC said he just kept blaming everyone, I actually feel that he have the right to do so. Usually, I would feel disgusted with such s*umbag, but I just felt my heart aches as no one believes him nor taking his side.

In the previous life, when they run away, unlike other gongs, he didn't chicken out. When he realized the hard life of a normal person, he stayed. When MC can't be intimate with him due to having allergic reaction to his pheromones, he still stayed. Even when he guy his rut and can't be appeased by MC, he just apologize for not being able to control himself. The only reason he run back was because MC vomited blood and got sick. In hope that he could have a stable environment to heal, he only then returned.

Seriously, I felt like their love was very very sincere. Even thru hardship, even when they're very incompatible in everything and even without pheromones, I feel like in the previous timeline, they're very much in love. It's like they're star crossed lovers. But unlike in other stories, they end up very tragically.

So seeing how very 'destined' MC and ML, I don't feel very sweet. Rather, I feel that it's so convenient for ML.

I also cannot accept how MC denied his 'love' with the ex. After all, in his whole life, MC's probably the only one who had love him.

I was hoping someone would save him. I rather he didn't remember and slowly move on. All those that pushed him into a desperate state got away while he'll suffer for the rest of his life.

He's just a really sincere guy mistakenly born in a very carnivorous family and eventually driven mad by them. For me, the ML won over him because ML is an adult, and he is just a kid whose life is controlled by others.

I MTLed this novel and rate it 3 stars.

About the story

MC is a beta who has lived a tragic life where he was betrayed by his lover and died from a terminal illness. In his new life, he changes his life trajectory in the hopes of freeing himself from his past. This novel is psychological and includes topics of gender bias and heavy themes on omegaverse physiology.

... more>> About the world building

There's not a lot to this interstellar novel and it seems parts of the past or ancient past only crop up a line here and there to carry the plot forward. Most of the novel focuses solely on ML trying to woo MC. The interstellar theme with hints of ancient history is nothing but a pale backdrop to the relationship plot between MC and ML.

About MC

MC lives with the pain and trauma of his past life and wants to move on from the alpha he loved before. In his previous life, he was kind, calm and tolerant to everything his alpha did and tried his best to be there for him but it all ended horribly. In his new life he's very timid and careful in his interactions with the ML because he's afraid of love and afraid of ending up in the same way as before. His character development arc is to slowly leave his shell and come to love the ML.

About the ML

The ML is very powerful in his presence but is mostly described as oscillating between gentle and obsessive madness. His desire for MC is driven by himself and MC's physiological transformation into an omega. He is not very fleshed out as a character compared to MC.

About the MC's previous love (Minor spoilers)

He was a very naive man who was deceived again and again and I know some reviewers felt empathy for him because of that. I think for someone who could not see clearly the people around him, especially his fiance's actions against MC, he was doomed to not be able to have a good ending with MC. I don't think he ever loved MC but really was in love with the very idea of love itself. And when things didn't follow his naive and pure idealized vision, it tore him up and changed him completely. The author did a good job describing him through the twists and turns of his psyche. I pity him for being so blind but also truly think the one he loved the most was himself. No one who truly loves another would do what he did. About the relationship and why it's not that great (Minor spoilers)

This novel delves heavily in the instinctive side of omegaverse which means the pheromones and physiology play a big role in the story to push the plot forward as well as MC and ML's relationship. While I can't imagine what it would be like to have your body connect to someone before your heart is even ready, there is definitely a very explored part of this relationship that delves into the wordless connection between MC and ML. This is a very interesting concept but unfortunately, author did not add in emotional development and growth for the relationship. It's very sparse compared to MC and ML's physical reactions towards each other. While I felt the madness and obsession from ML was well portrayed, the emotional connection was not there for a significant portion of the novel. If the author had spent time to flesh these parts out, this would have been a much more interesting novel. If you are thinking this novel will be fluffy and sweet, look elsewhere. This is a very awkward romance with intimacy that is sometimes uncomfortable to read. It's just not really romantic and feels more like two people driven by impulses rather than emotions which granted matches the theme of omegaverse but leaves the emotional aspect missing a lot by comparison.

TL:DR

Read it if you want a psychological novel that focuses on MC taking a long time to get out of his shell and a very awkward relationship with the ML from start to finish. There are good emotional parts and villains getting their just desserts but those are few and far in between. Interesting story and idea but my preference is to have more emotional connection. <<less

I feel really annoyed about the 'Scum' Gong. He is not scum. He is naive and not powerful enough to win against his horrible manipulative family and fiance. And he is not a cheater. He is forced into a relationship with someone else in both lifetimes. I guess when gongs are naive, too weak to protect themselves/others and are r*ped they are horrible terrible s*um that deserves an even worse ending than rapists and mu*derers. He also turns villainous by making him go crazy because of his genes, too bad... more>> he doesn't get a predestined love like the ML did to stop him from going insane and committing crimes.

It is too bad, if it wasn't for this I would have loved the story, but I just couldn't swallow the injustice of the author. If the ex-boyfriend of the MC had never remembered his past (to make him go insane again-one time wasn't enough) he could have had a happy ending with someone else than that toxic fiance of his or that past-life boyfriend who didn't even love him but wanted to prove to himself that as a beta he is good enough for an Alpha. Maybe his own uncle could have found a heart and helped him fight against his family like he later helped out the MC. Unfortunately the ML never finds it in himself to treat his nephew like family since he hates the father. <<less

I am so disgusted. I read the tags but I still had physiological reactions to this, crying & vomiting.

I wanted to drop this so many times because:

    • World building was weak
    • the description of the ML made him appear as an inhumane cyborg in my mind.
    • The biggest villain is the most disgusting s*um I've ever read in my entire life. Unfortunately, he appeared so many times in the story.
    • There was no satisfaction in the scum's rebirth because he never recognizes what he did wrong to regret it. This isn't a revenge story. His rebirth only empowers him in his delusions to hurt the MC in the name of love.
    • This s*um was still s*upid enough to be used in 2 lifetimes
*I had to mtl this

*The tags couldn't prepare me for the mess in the second half of the book. If you cant stomach it, spare yourself.

Spoiler

*Tags should include organ farming, attempted r*pe (forceful marking TWICE), tragedy, BE (in my opinion)

*To be fair, tags have human experimentation. But y'all. I wasn't ready.

I'm a bit surprised by some of the high ratings for this. Overall, I found it a bit lackluster and that's because the core of the conflict revolves around the MC (SL) leaving his prior lover (LZZ) who is supposed to be a s*um gong. The only problem is... LZZ isn't a s*um gong and so the rest of the story is very forced, cheesy and disjointed.

Again, I think the problem lies in the initial premise of the story, when we're first introduced to SL, a beta, it's as he's... more>> dying and trying to send one last message to his former lover, an alpha, congratulating him on his recent marriage to an omega. From this, you do get the sense that LZZ is a s*um gong. That quickly changes, however, as SL recalls past memories of them eloping together because LZZ's family didn't approve of their relationship, them struggling to make ends meet when LZZ's family cut his access to money and housing, LZZ suffering through ruts alone because their pheromones weren't compatible and he didn't want to hurt MC... all of this directly counters LZZ being a scum-gong... LZZ was obviously someone who loved SL to the point he was willing to defy familial expectations and suffer ruts alone just for the sake of being together with SL.

It's not an issue of LZZ never having loved SL, because he did love SL, it's that his love was a bit obsessive and caused him to make reckless choices that led to MC feeling unloved and alone.

And this would've been a great topic for the novel to explore, but instead, the novel takes the easy way out, having SL simply abandon the love he had for LZZ under the guise of it being 'childish and immature' (even though, in his past life they were together for years and made very adult decisions together like working and housing and ofc to elope and runaway, etc., ).

The novel then introduces the 'true' ML, Lu Taipan, a sort of OP ML who has every ML trope going for him (first meeting when MC is a child/fated lovers trope, strongest alpha to ever alpha trope, protective in a cute way trope, cold to everyone but the MC who they are super sweet to trope, possessive without being 'possessive' trope, deep voiced trope, super tall trope, perfect age for MC because he's mentally and physically an adult and MC needs a pseudo father figure trope, etc.).

I don't dislike Lu Taipan, but just as I felt the 'white lotus' omgea character Ning Jiayi was fairly predictable as white lotus' go, I felt like Lu Tiapan was super predictable regarding his behavior towards the MC; everything from 'secretly looking out for him the entire time' to the supporting cast pushing for their 'cold boss' to make a move on the SL and him pretending he wasn't interested... all very cliche. He came across as the sort of perfect ML2 -- you know, he comes to the MC in times of conflict and he seems perfect because he's the exact opposite of that toxic ML1 but we all know it's never going to happen -- yeah, that's him...

He's not a bad character, but he's a bit boring and I found myself scrolling through a lot of the chapters to get to the end. While the early interactions between the MC and ML are cute it's not enough to sustain interest for like 40+ more chapters. Overall he's not the worst ML but he could've been better. I think the author tried to make him too perfect to contrast against LZZ, when in reality her issue was that LZZ isn't inherently bad... he makes poor choices, sure, but we also understand why because we have a clear view of how his family (and the Ning family) treat him like some sort of prized stallion, trying to dictate every aspect of his life and force him into a relationship with someone he doesn't want nor love.

Personally, I think the story would've been improved if SL didn't just give up on the relationship with LZZ when he is reborn.

I totally get the mentality of 'you'll never get the chance to make a fool of me again' from SL. But when he is reborn, it's back to the very very early stages of their relationship, where LZZ could actually be forced to improve or change if given a greater understanding of the situation and SL would've also benefited from understanding why LZZ made the (s*upid) choices he made.

LZZ is one of those naive types who sees the good in everyone, so when SL was being ab*sed by the Lu and Ning family, LZZ would claim he would 'take care of it' but would often be easily swayed by tears and crying from Ning and his own internal belief that people are inherently good and don't mean to cause SL harm. And ironically, LZZ has such a good impression of people BECAUSE of SL who himself, never complained or truly explained to LZZ what was happening to him.

And I'm not saying LZZ is owed an explanation, 'no.' is a complete sentence, and if SL didn't want to be with him anymore, OK, I get it. But at the same time, it means that despite all SL went through in his past life, he doesn't actually take anything he's learned to improve his situation or teach LZZ anything. He simply plans to 'distance' himself from LZZ which leaves both he and LZZ without any real character growth. SL doesn't 'grow' as a character by simply running away from LZZ, in fact it just reinforces his passive nature. He's not actually willing to standup for himself in this life either... some might consider just leaving the situation as standing up for yourself, and protecting your peace, but in this situation I disagree. Also, the Ning family still attacks him even after he leaves so...

Rather than just cutting contact with LZZ cold turkey, I think this story would've benefitted from a true confrontation between the two of them. Let LZZ become a true s*um gong after that and then we'd have a more exciting story, but honestly, he spends most of the story worried about SL and hoping he's safe and ok... he also gets flashes of memories from a past life and spirals downward mentally when sees that SL died because he (LZZ) trusted his family that they would take care of SL so long as he married NJ and had a kid, and then in 3 years he could go back to SL.

Overall there are some nice elements but the story misses the mark for me. <<less

I love this novel. It contains some of my favourites and blended them to create this wonderful story.

I like that the MC was not hurt. Usually, the protagonists were hurt by their enemies. I also liked how their relationship progressed and how doting/possessive the ML. I just have a few dissatisfactions.

Spoiler

Why did the author not elaborate more on their future together? They only mention tiny tidbits of the future.

They also didn't explain the flower clearly.

It's been a while since I read this BUT I loved this novel.

The MC takes a while before he slowly starts becoming an omega, so it isn't the usual 'turns into omega' that sparks the plot. Because he spends more time with the ML he begins to become compatible with him. Plus the MC is understandably wary of everyone since he was lied to and betrayed in his first life. He tries to survive and get away from the fiance who betrayed him. The ML is nice and takes him... more>> into shelter but MC was scared shitless because it felt like a death flag with the ML's reputation. I can't blame him lol

also the plot twist of who the antagonist was incredible.

Why? MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

Spoiler

The real villain for this novel is not the s*um family but the s*um gong himself. Yes the family was s*um for making the s*um gong think that he was gonna get the MC back after throwing MC into the slums to perish. The story later shows s*um gong finding the dead MC's body in the slums and he went insane. He went so insane he started trying to revive the MC to bring him back. By this point it's clear his love for MC becomes warped and even worse than the usual s*um gong. He destroys the world in the process and proceeds to crawl over into the timeline where MC rebirthed. s*um gong gets memories of this s*um gong and eventually loses his own sense of self that he goes insane. He kidnaps the MC and the couple has to fight him for their happy ending. The s*um gong is Hella Yandere I tell ya! Even in the new timeline and seeing them together it feels like the s*um gong was harbouring a weak puppy love/possessive love that went insane after he realised he sold the love of his life for nothing. He went back to get married for nothing since his lover died without him knowing. He was utterly useless and could not even keep the promise. The poor guy is also a product of the sh*t family so can't feel bad for him. Just smh...

The story is good!!!

However, it I very clear that the author either is not really mature person when it comes to emotional and societal skill, or he/she/they failed to their understanding come across clearly.

Sounds a bit like the "Child of negletful parents marry a neglectful husband, suffers and end up finding happiness when he/she finds a new husband that can properly fulfi the fatherly needs that were bleeding before" route.

... more>> Daddy issues to the max!

The "scum" gong is not s*um because he turned into a crazy person, or because of miscommunication. He is s*um because he is negletful. He knew about all the types of ab*se going on and never truly made an effort to stop it. Some people wrote here about him being powerless. Yes, he is most of the time. But the author also made it clear that even when he could have protected the shou, he promised to do so and never did.

Spoiler

Every single act of the Ning ômega are prime examples. The broken doll is the breaking point, but it is clear that it was routine. The s*um wasn’t dumb. He saw the ab*se and chose to ignore it because it was more beneficial to him. Thats why he is always talking about how MC should forgive the Ning omega every single time MC is the victim. The fact that he picked up fight after fight to protect the ômega, but in both lifes didn’t even got closer to analyse the MC bruises when a gang of alphas almost killed him? I rest my case.

[collapse]

A lot of people doesn't understand that neglect is form of ab*se because the ofender usually feel powerless and genuinely loves the victim. However, they chose to live in denial because fighting to protect the other is way harder than convincing yourself that there's nothing wrong. The s*um saw it all. He saw his family attack his lover. He saw his fiancé attack his lover. But he chose the easy route over and over because he was sure that MC would never leave him.

He only changed when he noticed that it wasn’t true.

The ML is cute and all, but I was screaming in therapy session language. He is the daddy issues fantasy through and through. He is soft and caring with his baby (MC), but OP to the max. Which of absent or neglectful parents never wished for a sperhero father that was rich, caring, and who can protect him for the world? The ML is the solution for all the MC's pain because he is the answer for this wish

It also means that the author gave the ML too much power and buff. The ML exists to heal the MC and nothing else, that’s why he is so easy to love. He is a fantasy from start to finish andvif you wish a tridimensional character with good development? Nah. Forget it. This book requires a smooth brain só you can delude youserlf into thinking is more than it is.

Yet, the characters are lovely. Stewart and the Vipers made me cackle a lot. There are some random cannon fodders, so there's no need to remember their names.

The premise is intersting. The execution could improve. But it is and overall good read. <<less

Omegaverse, interstellar, second chance at life, redo life, older uncle type ML, military ML, tragic past, tragic background, human experimentation, human trafficking, obsessive ML, family schemes, not fluffy

So I was really looking forward to reading this one from it's summary but it wasn't at all how I'd imagined it 😔 It's not warm and fluffy at all. It's not even cute😭 cover is cute tho

There isn't really a snake ML it's more that his spiritual power is shaped like a snake and he has a snake tattoo on his back... more>> that's mentioned like once. Plus it's his military codename? And the place he lives is an island called the snake cave because the throne or leader's living area is underground like a snake's habitat. Plus they are called viper soldiers. So no it's not an animal transformation or animal characteristics type novel though the ML is often described as being similar to a snake 🐍 because of his cold aura and the MC Is often described as a kitten (originally stray cat) by the ML🐱

I'm so glad the MC got to redo his life but the relationship between the ML and MC can be really wrong at times. At the end the MC even admits that he'll allow the ML to lock him up as long as they can be together. From a psychological point of view their relationship is not healthy at all. And I'm the type to usually like the obsessive ML. Maybe it was the double anxiety from the crazy ex who has a pe*verted obsession with the MC + the MLs obsession= it being too much when binge reading it. I think even the author realized this because of the new bite muzzle thing the ML started wearing later that needed the MCs permission or a codeword to remove which to me sounds like the equivalent of a safe word in bd*m🤔🤣

There are so many things in this novel that is just too much and I'm a person who likes the darker side of things
Spoiler

human experimentation during which organs and useful parts are removed and the corpses are turned into nutritional potions to feed back into other experiments. "Farming" of human omegas and keeping them alive as birthing machines then killing them when they lose their use as raw materials

It really wasn't worth the time I took to read it. It lack world building, and logical decision ... more>>
Spoiler

the ML is supposed to have killed the enemy's emperor in the enemy's base before the start of the novel. Why didn't they explore, and took/got rid of everything that was in it afterwards ? I don't like this kind of plot hole decision made uniquely to give the new s*umbag a base to hide and a horrible weapon developed by the previous enemy

[collapse]
. I feel no chemistry between the two protagonists, and no meaningful conversations. The ML is like 'I want to keep you locked away so I'll be the only one to see you', and the MC is like 'ok, I don't mind.'

And that's all. Nothing else to see... And I agree with previous reviews about the villain. <<less

I’m not sure how I feel about this novel. It’s very mixed.

The first chapter was really compelling and caught my eye, but I felt my enjoyment from there become less and less as the ML was introduced.

This story has a typical kind of s*um gong, white lotus, and sympathetic MC set up, I’ve read a lot of these. I generally would not write a review for a story like this, but then there was the s*um gong of the story.

The way the author wrote him, it felt like they wanted... more>> to write an usual s*um gong, and gave him the usual backstory and traits of sheltering the white lotus and running away with the MC but realizing he really loves money more, but they don’t. The s*um gong, subjectively, to me, cannot really be seen as scum. To quote another review, if these two were in more forgiving story, they will be happy together. And to me, that is sad and I feel bittersweet to this. S*um gong is flawed and a child trapped in an adults’ game that he can’t be expected to understand yet, and he is punished for this. That is very sad. He is flawed, because he is too naive, and he is punished. He is compelling.

The ML is too perfect, and that’s why he can flip the game board. S*um gong is not allowed to.

Similarly, the white lotus, or green tea b*tch, is also trapped in the same adults’ game. MC makes a note of sympathy in the story about how the adults in the green tea b*tch‘s family uses his injury to make a commotion, but never actually shows care about his injury.

To go off on a tangent here, perhaps that’s why the green tea bit*h is in love with s*um gong in the first place. The isolating feelings of being also seen as bait for a prized stallion, an alpha, and being a mere check piece, it may makes him latch onto the s*um gong’s natural good nature to see good in people. This makes me feel pity for the green tea bit*h despite what he did in the story.

I do like the MC, however, he is also struck in that typical sympathetic MC set up for me, but the author’s writing style was very compelling and made me click the next chapter. The way they took care to describe the full extent of the MC’s feelings in the first chapter was very good, I was hooked. However, due to the MC being pigeonholed into the sympathetic MC set up, he ended up being a much passive character in my opinion.

The ML was probably the weakest part of the novel for me, as he is very cliche Duke of the North for me. Very cold, very OP, and very doting on his wife and only his wife. Also, add possessive to that. To me, the s*um gong’s direction felt like there could’ve been something more here.

It would have been a more interesting story if the actual ML was still the s*um gong in my opinion, or as a deconstruction of this specific narrative trope, but that’s my opinion. <<less

I'll start by saying ML's identity as the s*um gong's uncle is not the face-slapping part and it is not as significant even though it was the selling point in the title.

The first 3/4 of this novel is focused on the lead's romance development and the MC's transition to an Omega with some plot and action in the latter 1/4. I found the gland transplant plotline interesting and really would've liked it if it was woven throughout the story instead of it just popping up at the end.

I liked how... more>> the MC didn't just transition in the span of one day but when through a gradual process. Later, it'll be revealed that the MC is not purely an Omega but-

Spoiler

A Sigma (?). It was written as Siga in the raws but it's basically a very high leveled Omega.

[collapse]

There is a whole explanation about the history of MC's gender. I think it is also to emphasize how the MC and ML are destined lovers which, I appreciate the effort but don't I find it as important as how much the author elaborated on it.

Something that made me like this novel a lot is the background setting of the Snake Den and the Vipers. The ML is the master of the Snake Den and the Vipers are the soldiers in the Snake Den. A group of elite soldiers that have a deadly and cold reputation but are actually protective and tight-knit on the inside. The descriptions used for the ML are mostly chilling and monstrous but there is just something wickedly captivating when mixed with his usage of a muzzle and mechanical spine. The contrast between his abstinent personality and weapon-like setting hit many spots for me. 😂 Also, the ML has long hair and a snake tattoo which adds extra flavor. The Snake Den is already enough to fascinate me so the lack of world-building didn't bother me much.

Hence I was a bit disappointed when the ML became... a bit too doting? Like the kind of generic doting where they'll listen to their "wife" but not to the point where his personality changed 180. I do like how straightforward the ML is with his liking and desires. As per ABO novels, Alphas are all obsessed 😂 so expect many scenes depicting ML's obsession over the MC. At least for me, I liked ML's struggles to restrain his uncontainable possessiveness despite his supposed unemotional personality. He doesn't hide his emotions from the MC and is honest in letting the MC know his affection and possessiveness. I would like to see it as him giving the MC a heads-up because the MC on the other hand is quite irresolute.

I understand the MC's indecisiveness towards the ML because he didn't end well with the Alpha (s*um gong) in his past life so he doesn't want to make the same mistake again. However, he still hasn't got his feelings sorted out even after doing so much with the ML. I couldn't stand it when it always feels like he is so afraid of the ML as if he is not a willing party which made the ML look pushy. As the Viper's doctor has said, Alphas are like dogs so if the MC was firmer and practice what he preach, the ML would've obeyed. MC's words and actions are overly contradictory. Also, his constant blushing was a bit too much it's not like he have never dated before.

The MC seemed promising in the initial chapters but his emotional and character development was very weak and disappointing. It's a shame the author seem to forget about MC's rebirth and wrote like MC was still a pure college student. It's as if all the life lessons he learnt from his past life were forgotten after rebirth. Even though he was supposed to have matured after going through everything in his past life. In truth, MC's mental age shouldn't be too far off from ML's.

As for the s*um gong, I also initially think he wasn't unredeemable but he went overboard with his actions later. As the readers get to know his thoughts, he is actually quite selfish and complacent. Sure, his family and fiancée screwed him up but the fact that he married another but still expect the MC to stay with him was selfish. His thinking has never changed from before and after he got his past memories. If he did some introspection, perhaps he wouldn't have gone that far but he chose to push all the blames to everyone but himself.

I don't think the s*um gong is any good but I found the Ning family a lot more despicable and would've liked it if the author focused on them instead of condemning the s*um gong to death. The conclusion of their family was quite unsatisfying.

There are definitely bits that I didn't like in this novel but I don't think this novel deserved the low rating. It was still better compared to some higher-rated abo novels I've read. Lastly!! The steward is the best side character!! <<less

Might drop and write fanfic about this one instead because the world is cool and the characters deserve better.

The chapters may be long, but nothing really happens in them after about the first twenty. (Also, in all this time, I still have not gotten to the part where MC finds out he's actually an omega. The reader knows it, the supporting characters are laboriously failing to mislead us about it, the ML's instincts are obviously indicating it to him too and yet everyone somehow remains oblivious. I thought these characters... more>> were supposed to be smart.)

I'm bummed about where this story is heading (nowhere) given the interesting worldbuilding that's been going on in the background. I also really struggle to fully buy into Lu ZhiZhao's s*um gong status. I think it was borderline unbelievable that he would leave Su Liang (MC) and never communicate with him personally despite knowing about his lover's serious illness, but going by the reviews here that seemed to be a story thread dropped by the author. Also, SL is supposed to be incredibly smart and has at least enough drive to get into the number one school in an interstellar society (so we're probably talking millions, if not billions of applicants, right?). How did he not 1.) come to the conclusion that his communications might be getting intercepted or 2.) found an alternative method of contacting LZZ?

LZZ seems much more like a Mr. Willoughby than a Mr. Wickham (for my fellow Jane Austen fans out there).

I'm also not a huge fan of the post hoc rationalization of the s*um gong's status. Maybe other netizens complained that LZZ wasn't scummy enough so the author felt the need to write this whole mental illness = complete personality shift/violent psycho character degeneration for him which was certainly a lazy choice. I don't particularly like LZZ's character: He's weak-willed, neglectful, and reckless but he is the most compelling and sympathetic character out of all of them. He's closely followed by Ning Jaiyi and I do think we, as readers, deserved to see a better arc (Honestly, I think I would have loved to see a rebirth fic centering around either one of these villains)

I also think Ning Jaiyi should have stayed the pampered cute, true white lotus instead of the green tea spirit. Hear me out: What if he really was just kinda dumb and spoiled, instead of outright malicious? He's a sheltered rich kid in his late teens who was thrown into this situation and rendered pretty much powerless by his family's actions. Does he even like LZZ that much? I doubt he even knows what love is. LZZ says he feels like a prize stallion, but the author has even less sympathy for the broodmare.

I was looking forward to this becoming a non-romance where SL makes his own way and goes off to educate the underserved population of District 48. I think that would have been really cool. The titular s*um gong's uncle Lu Taipan's character feels extraneous and his existence feels like his sole purpose is to throw a wrench into SL's character growth, regardless of how supportive he is of SL' goals :/

An additional nitpick: LTP's tendency towards making secret bases in random spots (the top floor of the old university library, a greenhouse in the Lu Residence, etc.) just to have a reason to interact with the MC reinforces my feeling that he's an unnecessary part of the story. <<less

Before being addicted to BL, I am an avid, harlequin romance novel reader.

Upon reading this novel, I am very surprised, its like I am reading a harlequin romance but BL version.

I like the way it is written, maybe its my age but... oh well. I just like this novel, the way it describes things and feelings.

Love the author and translator. 🥰🥰🥰

a 3.7, really good for omegaverse.

i liked the story and the main characters. ill admit that I have nothing but pity for the mc's ex... the author forced him into a villain and blamed him terribly in the first life...i honestly wished he had his happy ending in the second life but poor guy madness took over him.

This was a nice read, it wasn't what I expected since the MC's personality didn't change. He just grew up a bit and experienced more so he did things differently this time.

The ML was adorable, he was this Dark Lord with a mask and everything. The author was open about just wanting to write a short novel with a classic theme. So that was what this was, a kind and sweet MC healing a damaged ML.

There are some dark themes like human trafficking, but everything is pretty much the couple... more>> learning and growing together. It's a rare novel which does that well. <<less

the whole story mainly revolves around the two main leads, but I do think it's pretty unique in a sense. It was super fun to read, so if you like romance, this is the perfect read, their chemistry and dynamic is quite sweet. There is quite alot of plot and background to the world but it isn't explored deeply (which I think is fine.. The story could've been better with it but there's no harm done). I do believe this would've been a better read if the novel was longer..... more>> But that's a common complaint I have ;;;

there aren't any abo clichés like

Spoiler

the alpha losing control and taking things way too far. Rather lu taipan would always listen to his little omega.. So cute!!!

[collapse]

about the "s*um gong"

Spoiler

i dont know how people can feel bad for him.. And forgive everything hes done just because he's "naive". He and su liang wouldve never worked out in no matter how many chances the world gave them.. Lets not talk about su liang confessing that he never really loved him in the first place, but rather everything su liang went through because of him. Lu zhizhao isnt a child, but a fully grown adult. I wont lie and say he isnt immature but theres a limit to how much he could be forgiven solely because of that. Su liang quite literally lost everything in his first life because of him.. And after regaining his memories (after su liangs rebirth), rather then letting go and wishing su liang happiness, lu zhizhao actually wanted to ruin everything su liang cared for, thinking su liang would forgive him and be with him again. This isnt love anymore, its pure craziness and selfishness. You cant be this oblivious, ,

[collapse]

anyways overall review 8.5/10, , rereadability around 7-ish/10 <<less
