Tang Ziyou was reborn. In his previous life, he gave everything to his fiancé, actor Gu Jiuci, but he could not get the other party’s love. In this life, Tang Ziyou decided to let go. He took off the ring on his hand, moved out of Gu Jiuci’s house, returned to the entertainment industry, and proposed to dissolve the marriage contract.

Gu Jiuci was born in a wealthy family, handsome, had countless suitors, but he was engaged to Tang Ziyou.

A friend asked him: “How does it feel to be engaged?”

Gu Jiuci’s thin lips lightly opened: “Annoying.”

Knowing that Tang Ziyou wanted to dissolve the marriage contract, his friend raised his glass to congratulate him: “Now you aren’t annoyed.”

Gu Jiuci’s face was as heavy as iron, not only irritable but also flustered.

. . .

Gu Jiuci: “We were engaged when we were young.”

Tang Ziyou: “Outdated bad practices, you said, I understand.”

Gu Jiuci: “I am your fiancé.”

Tang Ziyou: “Fiancé does not equal husband, I know what you said.”

Gu Jiuci: “I don’t agree to dissolve the marriage contract!”

Tang Ziyou: “A marriage contract is just a marriage contract, and you don’t like it. I remember what you said.”

Gu Jiuci: …how can I beat myself to death!

. . .

Gu Jiuci discovered that Tang Ziyou really didn’t care about him anymore. Not only did he not care about him, but he also became popular in the entertainment circle and was liked by more and more people.

His brother: “You are not the only child in our family. Marrying me is also an option.”

His friend: “Don’t harm Xiao You, I will treat him well, don’t worry.”

Gu Jiuci was impatient: “Who said I don’t like him, stay away from my wife!”

Tang Ziyou: “Don’t talk nonsense, we’re already separated.”

Gu Jiuci: “Never separate, never separate! I will listen to you from now on, Xiao You, so don’t dissolve your marriage contract with me ok?”

Tang Ziyou: “Heh.”

Giving this a 5/5

Usually, I really don't like it when MLs who were sh*t in the past was given 2nd chance in rebirth. But you have to give this novel a chance..

This is a short novel of 49chaps including extras and I really appreciated that. It was short but the emotional line is 5/5.

In chasing wife novels, the MLs are usually given a reason mainly because of misunderstanding or s*upidity for their past mistakes and somehow authors just force the leads together. I didn't like that. But in this... more>> novel, it was logically discussed as if the characters were human beings. Both the ML and MC made mistakes at the start of their relationship. They both said promises they weren't able to keep. I really liked that part where the MC thought about what did he do wrong.. Was it wrong to love? To love sincerely? Persistently? And was it wrong for the ML to have his own plans? Just so he won't feel so awkward with his ownself?
Spoiler

it's like, YEAH F"CK. I'M ALREADY IN LOVE WITH YOU BUT GIMME SOME TIME OKAY? MY FACE HURTS. Not to mention, you really have give kudos to the author for showing ML's emotional journey. Especially for someone like me who doesn't like being forced to do something, I really understood why the ML wanted to be stubborn and keep his distance.

[collapse]

It also showed us the difference in choices. In the 1st life because of MC's choices, his life was like that. The same with his 2nd life, because he chose to choose himself.

I think it's a great piece of work. Yes, it doesn't have that much connection with filming but gee, it was a worthwhile read.

Special mention for my favorite line

Spoiler

"I'm your love, hate, desire, anger, and insanity."

It's good but there are too much of netizens blabbering about stuff

I've never had any complains with the netizens talking among themselves even if it was a long convo as it was interesting but this novel netizens are boring EXTREMELY BORINGGG!! They don't give me any spark of exciting. Hence I always skip their silly conversations, concentrating only on the crucial parts of their talk

Lol can't believe I'm complaining on such a silly matter but they're ruining my enjoyment but I'll still continue as the plot is great

I actually really really like this story. I was a bit frustrated at first but after you get both sides of the story, you see ... more>>
Spoiler

that both MC and ML were a little selfish, a little dumb, and a little direspectful. And the granma/granpa that pushed for the engagement are to blame as well.

[collapse]

But everyone in this story is human, noone is really doing mean sh*t JUST to be mean, people are hurt or feel indebted and that's what drives their actions. Both MC and ML realize that they have some fault and both recognize that they did some hurtful and s*upid shit. + Lots of miscommunication and here you go. But both are redeemable, both are decent people and I found their justifications and feelings very believable, for BOTH of them.

I don't really understand all the readers that hate only on the ML, unless they didn't read till the end. I think you get both sides of the story around chapter 30, so maybe that's it, but if you finished all chapters and still think the ML is unredeemable and the MC is blameless, I don't get you.

Great story! <<less

It's not bad, but it's also not the best rebirth book out there.

I just like to read the chasing arc, albeit brief.

I was also satisfied with the past story. That was within my expectations.

Translations could've been better, but it was passable, I guess. Thanks anyway

Best character out of everyone is probably the Brother.

All in all, I love and hate the book.

6/10. The initial angst was good and I was hoping it would be a wife chasing crematorium. But towards the later chapters, I realised that the MC and ML were both unlikeable, with the MC even more so. You forgot the promise you made and that caused resentment in the ml. You have no one to blame but yourself. You used pity to get the ml’s grandmother to arrange a mother between you and the ml, but you’ve never stopped to consider how the ML would feel with his life decisions being made for him, and him not getting any say in all of this. Honestly the ML had every right to be pissed

The translation could be better, a lot of confusing phrases and paragraphs.

About the story, although this may be the best ending for the characters, where both get together and I usually prefer HE, this is one I wish for a BE.

None of the characters are right:

Spoiler

Grandma for forcing the marriage, knowing her grandson didn't want it and even using his brother as leverage to make him agree; MC for pushing for the engagement even after ML explicitly saying he didn't want it and breaking his promise of breaking up if it didn't work; ML for the way he isolated MC and took his love for granted, planning to slowly approach him again after leaving him "hanging in an emotional freezer" for a whole year, plus breaking his promise of being his family and treating him well.

[collapse]

The author does a good job developing the characters and how they each mature and learn. It's simply my personal opinion and belief not to go back to ab*ser. And unfortunately, ML was an abusive partner, not in the physical but in the psychological and emotional sense:

Spoiler

Treating someone coldly, giving occasional tastes of sweetness, just to go back to treating them coldly is a commonly used form of emotional ab*se and manipulation.

Somewhat boring. Especially if you came here for the angst, there's only a small bit. The reason the author gave for why the ML acted like a s*umbag was alright I suppose, but the speed (and the difference) at which his attitude towards the MC changed was too unbelievable. Everything is resolved so easily and simply. And after that, nothing else happens, the novel just drags on and on.

I'm giving this about a 4.3. It's one of my favorite rebirth novels, tho it didn't really leave that much impact enough for me to reread it, I still found it a great read.

What I like about it the most is how raw, or human, the characters are. They are flawed (in the sense that the author intentionally made them flawed), which made the development more appealing. I just feel like it was too short, and we didn't get to explore much of the love part because majority of the... more>> novel focused on the chase (which is understandable considering the genre.

what I like the most per character:

Spoiler

MC: MC is... he was really in the wrong during the beginning of their relationship. He shouldnt have insisted on that engagement, because the whole "maybe the feelings will come later if I love him right" is such a wishful thinking that's just a recipe for heartbreak. I could say that he brought that heartbreak on himself. But that's what makes him interesting too. the way he yearns for love, and the wrong way he sought it, makes it so heartbreaking.

ML: ML is very human. He's a "s*um gong" when you look at how coldly he treated MC. But there's a part of me that can't help but feel like his actions are SOMEHOW understandable. Being forced to such a huge commitment when people around you don't event really take your feelings into consideration is something can really make you... cold? mad? but still, he really is in the wrong when he forced himself to look away from the already blossoming feelings he have for the MC. Like, it's already there, why stop it?? Because of pride?? He's so self contradictory. He said he wanted to wait a year but if the feelings came earlier, then what's the point of denying it? Besides, MC treated him very well. But yes, that's what made him human. The pride, selfishness, his indecisive mind that unfortunate brought demise to the person he liked.

[collapse]

overall I like how they were both in the wrong, because it made the forgiveness justifiable and the happy ending acceptable. Most of the time I am not satisfied with endings of wife chasing trope because I find the ML irredeemable or their back story / POV too forced. That's not the case with this one. Somehow, I can feel like it also talks about self forgiveness but on the lowkey side, or maybe that's just my own interpretation.

i just wish there were some dialogues or monologues that were more impactful. the plot is good, it's an easy read, there's development, but it just kinda lacked emotions in terms of conversations. like I was waiting for lines that will really leave an impact, but I wasn't able to find it. but anyways, I recommend it. it's short, not dragged, and it has a HE (with an extra for a BE which is... heart-wrenching). <<less

Overall this is a very sweet read. Its not too angsty nor is it an overload of fluff. Frankly, I completely understand the ML's pov. Why he chose to distance himself and give the relationship space and time.

Spoiler

I can even understand why he chose to delay his confession. The grandma really did him dirty.. Just because MC loved GJC, she decided the two must be engaged. And that this was the only way to take care of the MC. While he liked the MC as a friend, to expect feelings to develop just from being together is ridiculous. Even the MC never cared about his feelings.

The scene where Jiu Ci told grandma that his opinion and feelings never mattered from the very beginning, I felt really awful for him.

[collapse]

The MC on the other hand was naive and mostly self absorbed. Ultimately none of them communicated what was essential - their expectations, current feelings, reasons or aspirations. They were both immature and uncompromising. It would have been healthier for them to start as friends and develop from there. The acting parts of it were.. Alright? I guess? The usual keyboard warriors and jealous co-stars, nothing stood out.

3.5 starts rounded up. <<less

It was not a wow novel but it had several pluses. Firstly it is only ab 50 chapters long and that felt just right. It still managed to contain all the usual tropes and twists. Secondly, I liked that here the reason for all the trouble was a bit different. It was ofc misunderstanding as usual but this is the only novel where the s*um gong was not that scum, he was kinda a victim of MC too. I gave it 4 stars just to improve its rating, as it... more>> was not worse than 3 thousand other danmei novels with exactly the same trope and 4+ rating. In short it was not that good but it still was ok.

P.S.: the translation would improve with some beta quality check. <<less

If you love angst but still want to taste the sweetness of love in the end then this novel is for you. Both the ML and MC have their wrongs one is selfish and another is full of pride, yet they both know their wrongs, paid for it, and lastly changed themselves for the better.

Unbelievably slow for something so short.

Also for an entertainment novel, the settings he acts in aren't flushed out.

Everything feels rather shallow.

The ML's EQ is low enough that it's a medical condition.

After forcing myself to see if it got better, I found nothing worth sticking around for.

Translation quality is better than MTL. Honestly I doubt a perfect translation would make a difference, the story itself is just too bland.

This novel is not shallow in title! It drains my tears and makes you feel relatable to their feelings. Relationships that start with clichés and selfish, dishonest feelings. Honestly I thought at first ML was completely tr*sh, but from another point of view what he feels about the compulsion of this relationship is valid. I don't condone his jerk attitude towards the MC, it's just that he really isn't completely a jerk, with the explanations and reasons behind it I can understand why he is being cold to the MC,... more>> and it's not to the point that ML's attitude is unforgivable. The reason the author makes is quite logical with the attitude and character of MC and ML. The slap-face is not excessive, as far as reading it I really understand and understand the mistakes of MC and ML. They were wrong and tried to fix it, not the mature type at first so I'm sure many readers were upset, at that time MC and ML even knew they lost themselves because of an immature relationship. But believe me, the way they want to be better and the thoughts they pour on their loved ones to become more mature, become the best version of themselves, are worth reading.

This is some quote from ML to MC:

Spoiler

"I know that I’m loved and I know I deserve to be liked, but what about you? Do you know?”

“Do you know that you’re loved? Do you know that you deserve to be loved? Will you continue to move forward the next time you meet the person you like?”

“I hope you know.” Gu Jiuci said softly, “So I can’t do nothing and I won’t do nothing.”

"No one likes to pester someone with the possibility of being rejected continuously after being rejected. You used to be once and so I’m now. However, I need to make you feel the feeling that I owe you. I hope you know that you are loved by me and you are worthy of being loved.”

“In this way, when you think about this relationship in the future, even if the ending is not good, you will know that ‘it’s not that I’m not good enough, so he doesn’t love me, but we’re too young and don’t consider it carefully. I love him too early, he loves me too late’. Just this and nothing more.”

However, it was always a good change. A change was still a change, right. He lived a new life. Originally, he just wanted to become a better version of himself.

Break-up then reunited lovers isn't usually my favorite story type but I thought this one was pretty good.

There wasn't any over-the -top dog's blood behavior by the ML and the MC wasn't a wilting flower fleeing in the night.

They both made mistakes and there was miscommunication. It took time for the characters to get beyond their th**ny past and their reconciliation wasn't instantaneous. I thought that was good. They both needed a chance to grow and learn about each other in a healthier way. The ML had to let go... more>> of his resentment and the MC had to learn that he was more than an obsession.

This wasn't a long story so it didn't lose much by being almost completely focused on just the MC and ML. There was minimal character development beyond that. It would have been a little nice to learn more about the ML's interests and background since the MC was so thoroughly explored.

The sort-of villain felt like a straw prop to create a little drama outside of the relationship plot which weakened it considerably. It might have been better to dump it completely or flesh out the MC's friendship with the older actress.

Still, this was a very enjoyable little story. Fair warning, don't read the extras if you can't handle what happened to the ML in the original timeline after the MC dies. (Serious onion ninja attack) <<less

Wow, this story is so wholesome and sweet. Not fluffy fluffy sweet; the characters are not perfect and they make mistakes. There were moments when I felt angry with them and sad for them. But all in all, it is a very comforting read that make you believe in good in people. I actually started reading it, thinking it was a wife chasing crematorium :) So, first twenty chapters I enjoyed watching the ML slowly lose his smugness as he realized that the MC truly didn't want him anymore. I... more>> was looking forward to seeing him grovel and repent. Then there was a twist! You'll know it when you read it. And then... the story seems very simple but it didn't stop surprising me. The way the MC behaved when he realized what was going on; the way the ML showed his maturity - it was really heart warming. There was no unnecessary dog blood. They both are good people who don't want to torture each other if they can help it. They both develop and change to the better, for themselves and for each other.

I also enjoyed the career part very much. In the entertainment related novels the sign of quality for me is whether I would like to watch the drama/movies the characters participate in. I would watch 'Spring Festival' in a heartbeat. <<less

At first, I was all about Tang Ziyou's (MC) breakup and estrangement, my s*upid personal issues and coping mechanism ruled my judgment. I laughed at Gu Jiuci's (ML) misery getting sick satisfaction from it, but his side of the story broke me completely and I just can't bring myself to read their "redemption story" when Gu Jiuci did absolutely nothing wrong. His monologue made me cry and ask myself how someone can be this strong and still chase Tang Ziyou after experiencing all of this.

Spoiler

From the beginning to end, he was like a passerby who had accidentally entered into someone else's theatre.

When Tang Ziyou needed him, he was Tang Ziyou's leading actor. Even if he was unwilling to play, he had to wear a costume and sing on stage without complaint.

And when Tang Ziyou didn't need it anymore, then he needed to be kicked out. Even if he had already predicted in his heart how to perform the remaining tracks, no one wanted to know.

Tang Ziyou sentenced him.

His grandma ruled him out.

The curtain fell, leaving him alone

I like that's it's short. ML being a dck about his love for MC because there marriage has been forced into him is understandable. And I can even relate that he'd rather choose his moment to confess his love to MC, because, he prefers to make the one he loves suffer than having no control of his life.

I can relate and I can understand that readers won't like that MC forgave him too easily.

There only that can redeems ML is that he already is in love with MC

MC fell in love with ML that he changed himself to the worst (only depending on ML, obsessed over him). He chased over love that he doesn't notice that he become someone he doesn't know. But in the rebirth he decided to change and rely on himself. He realized that even if he is in love with ML, ML doesnt have any obligations to love him back. I like his character development.

ML kinda dumb even in the past. He was forced to be engaged to MC. He feel like he... more>> doesn't have a choice on his life that's why he rebel. He distanced himself from MC. Even if he had grievance, he tried to fixed it on his pace but life doesn't revolve around him, there might be accident on the way (like MC passing). So he doesn't have a chance to explain, talk or fix anything. (We can read his pov from 1st life in the extra).

This story wasn't perfect but at least the author explained ML's emotions and reasons (most author don't do that) haha <<less

If you're expecting a one-sided wife chasing crematorium... Maybe you will be surprised hahaha

I really recommend it if you're tired the typical wife chasing trope. I was pleasant surprise to read a relationship that both parties did mistakes, recognize their flawed selves and we're willing to communicate and improve themselves. It's a pity that is only a short novel so the author did not delve too deeply in the details. Chapter 22, the author's note, it took the words out of my mouth; it was exactly my opinion about their... more>> dynamic and relationship.

The entertainment industry part was also rushed, so there's nothing much to see. <<less
