The spiritual energy is abundant, and Mahayana stage cultivators are everywhere. Ting Xue Sheng Jun Jiang Xingzhi and Xu Jian Sheng Jun Zhong Ming are the two closest to ascension in the current era.

Rumors throughout the three realms say: The two fought to the death over opportunities, becoming sworn enemies.

Later, Ting Xue Sheng Jun was the first to undergo the tribulation. Heavenly lightning struck, scattering his soul and destroying his spirit.

1. When he opened his eyes again, he had returned to a thousand years ago. A thousand years ago, the cultivation world’s spiritual energy was thin, desolate, and barren, but he retained the power of the Mahayana stage.

Jiang Xingzhi: Woohoo, time to take off.jpg

2. Jiang Xingzhi, reborn at max level, planned to dominate the world, but as soon as he left the mountain, he was suppressed. A world-shaking, heaven-suppressing pressure came from all directions. Jiang Xingzhi was restrained, hands bound, and pressed down. His Mahayana stage cultivation was completely useless.

Jiang Xingzhi: What the hell? Where did this pe*vert come from a thousand years ago?

3. The pe*vert was powerful, good-looking, and impossible to shake off. Helpless, Jiang Xingzhi wandered the world with him.

One day, under a bright moon and a gentle breeze, the atmosphere was intoxicating.

Jiang Xingzhi, half-squinting his drunken eyes, said, “There’s someone in my heart. It’s a pity that the two of us fought for hundreds of years. I don’t know how happy he was after I died.”

The pe*vert lowered his head and caressed his flushed face, black hair falling by his red lips. “He wasn’t happy.”

A long time later, Jiang Xingzhi learned that the year he died, Xu Jian Sheng Jun tore apart the Heavenly Dao and slashed the chaotic spirits, all to exchange for one person’s soul to be reborn and their fate reversed.

I gave this novel five stars to bump up its current rating because 3.8 is just too low. While it's not perfect, it's definitely not bad either. The plot is pretty much as described in the summary. After undergoing Heavenly Tribulation, the main character (Jiang Xingzhi) unexpectedly finds himself a thousand years in the past. There, he encounters another cultivator at a similar level—Bai Mu. It's obvious from the beginning that Bai Mu is actually Zhong Ming, also known as Xu Jian. Together, they solve a series of mysteries while... more>> Jiang Xingzhi searches for a way to return to his own time.

Spoiler

And yes, he (or rather, they) eventually succeeds in going back. They even get married in the end.

What I really love about this novel are the main characters, Jiang Xingzhi and Zhong Ming. They're truly a match made in heaven—or hell, depending on how you look at it—because every conversation that involves them feels like they're asking for a beating. Jiang Xingzhi is overpowered but has a brain "full of water" (as Zhong Ming likes to point out), while Zhong Ming, despite his cold and intimidating demeanor, has an unmatched talent for irritating people—especially Jiang Xingzhi.

I'm usually not a fan of the misunderstanding trope, but it worked here because it was fun to see Zhong Ming unknowingly getting jealous... of himself. Sorry, I'm not really good at writing review but, if you're looking for a cultivation novel that isn't too heavy and features romance as a central theme rather than just a side plot, give this one a try! <<less
