While scrolling through her social media feed, Su Jinshi accidentally became bound to a romance game system. Before she knew it, she found herself raising Shen Shilang, the son of a former Prime Minister whose family had been eliminated.

When Shen Shilang was injured and needed medicine.

Su Jinshi: “Buy!”

When Shen Shilang’s meals lacked nutrition.

Su Jinshi: “Buy!”

When Shen Shilang had no new clothes.

Su Jinshi: “Buy!”

Watching these items materialize from thin air, Shen Shilang frowned. “Who dares play such supernatural tricks?”

Su Jinshi: “How rude. Address me as ‘Master.'”

Shen Shilang: “Heh.”

Later, Shen Shilang lay on the bed, face flushed as he clutched his collar. “Master, stop touching me.”

Throughout his life, Shen Shilang had despised all talk of ghosts and spirits. Yet ironically, during his darkest days, his only companion was a “female ghost.”

When others slandered him, she believed in him.

When he was besieged, she protected him.

When he was poisoned, she saved him.

He never imagined there would come a day when he would kneel at every temple in Great Xi, willing to sacrifice his own blood just for the chance to see her once more.

Until—

Su Jinshi spent a fortune in the system’s store to purchase a teleportation gate, transporting herself directly into Shen Shilang’s arms.

Shen Shilang loosened his collar: “Go on, touch me. Why’d you stop?”

Too good !!

I'd say the plot and romance were pretty well-balanced, and the couple is really cute, and sweet, and sweet, and cute !!!

A light-hearted read, and I wouldn't mind re-reading [that's my criteria for a good novel].

Love the ending, absolute cutesy bow !!!

I really enjoyed this story! It focuses on the game aspect and romance. The subplot is the revenge against the antagonists.

Basic premise is FL downloads a game featuring the ML in ancient times and helps him out and they gradually get attracted to one another.

ML has a tragic past and is focused on revenge against the Emperor who killed off his entire clan due to superstitions. ML is willing to have a bad reputation and go all out to kill his enemies. They’re pretty dumb tbh so it wasn’t a... more>> very deep revenge scheme.

The other subplot is about the FL in modern times being a successful script writer but is often nagged by her mother to get married and she has this obsessive narcissistic friend who stalks her and tries to get together with her, not taking no for an answer.

FL’s personality: FL’s personality is great and she is tough, firm with her stand and deals with her problems herself. That’s what I liked about the story. She is no damsel in distress and in the modern world, she handles the issues well. She also assist the ML appropriately and isn’t too OP in solving everything. She’s a rather bold girl and very straightforward with her likes and dislikes, so she is upfront with the ML and they have no miscommunication.

ML’s personality: ML IS SO CUTE. He is shy, blushy with the FL. Pampers and dotes on her. Does not have the typical cold ML demeanor cause he’s pretending to be a kissass with the petty Emperor so he just ends up seemingly arrogant and aloof to others. He is babygirl coded though and FL seems kinda dommy over him sometimes. I love that for them.

The novel focuses on their gradual romance and relationship and there aren’t any drama between them.

Side characters like the Fifth Prince was not really developed as mentioned in the other reviews. Plotholes are also not explained.

The game:

Spoiler

The game allows FL to communicate with ML and they get to go to the past and future through a portal every month. But it is never explained. Later on, there is an excavation about the Daxi Dynasty where ML is from with his tomb??? Like, so the game connects them to the actual past??? But yeah, the game aspect just stops halfway through and nothing is explained.

[collapse]

The ending:

Spoiler

Story is focused on ML achieving his revenge and after that he just sorta gives up on the past? He resigns and spends more time in the future which I find so odd. ML didn’t even clear up the misconceptions about himself?? The Shen family was not revived or whatnot but I guess he doesn’t care about that and just wants to make FL happy. So he gets a job in the future and that’s the end haha. He leaves a young child on the throne and says bye.

[collapse]

Antagonists:

Spoiler

The antagonists are dumb. The only reason they managed to do so much evil is cause they’re powerful so ML just manipulates them and cause their downfall. The thing is FL buys some medicine from the System that causes addiction and I’m like... most medicine do not cause that bad of an addiction. I did wish the fight was more intense as it felt like ML barely did anything for his revenge and everything fell into place easily.. I also wanted to see more side characters fleshed out like the Wei family who took him in initially, did that Madam Wei who sorta bullied ML find out finally that she was wrong all along and he wasn’t some illegitimate child??? What about the arrogant Wei Jianming?? I wish there was more on that tbh. But romance is the focus.

A good read. Translations is superb too. Just wish there was more. <<less

Cute! Very well-translated. We know more about the ML than the FL at this point—almost all of the action takes place in the historical world vs the modern one. At chapter 30, things are just beginning to pick up, but I’m looking forward to how things develop.

Real rating 4.7/5

I enjoyed this a lot!!! The FL and ML were super cute as both a couple and as individual characters and it was fun to see them gradually getting closer. We follow our FL who ends up using an app to help and contact the ML and ends up falling in love and helping him get revenge. It is mainly focused on the ML's journey and progression, and doesn't involve "using future technologies and bringing them back to ancient times" and safely maneuvers out of the general 'change... more>> the world with no thought of consequences' types of tropes, sticking mainly to romance in ancient times.

I love the personality of the FL, where she knows what she wants and will not degrade herself and bend to others will, and is also very forward and bright, sweetly teasing the ML every chance she can get. I also really liked the fact that it was somewhat realistic in the modern world setting, as sometimes I see novels try to make it super outrageous in the modern world to compliment the fantasy setting but ending up as a very messy and chaotic follow. Our FL has a very normal family and nothing really ends up being to dramatic given I could totally see those dynamics of family concerns totally happening in real life too.

I think the only thing I wasn't too satisfied with was how any of the other characters where not that fleshed out, with only the Emperor, the 5th prince and FL's parents being explored as characters but even then to a very superficial degree. But that's just me nitpicking as you wouldn't really find it a concern since romance is the main focus. I guess another thing is that we're never explained how and why she got the chance to contact him through her phone in the first place, but that is also just a minor concern as their relationship is more important.

Overall, the story was a fun, lighthearted read, and the length of the novel is not too short either; no love rivals, no angst, just a cute romance with a HE. <<less

I'm currently enjoying this web novel, mostly because it's cute, though it does have a bittersweet edge. That said, I'm optimistic it won't stay bittersweet for long since, hopefully, the characters will meet soon.

This is a virtual-raising web novel, where the MC believes the ML is a game character. The MC is levelling up, earning favorability points, and purchasing items for the ML. As the story progresses, we see her developing feelings for this "game character" and grappling with the loneliness of not being able to be with him because... more>> she believes he's not real. On the other side, we see the ML's loneliness as well, as he's unable to see or touch the MC, whom he thinks is a ghost. That's the core premise of the story.

I found the plot engaging. I was genuinely curious about what would happen next, and the interactions between the FL and ML were heartwarming. For a web novel, that's a good sign, considering some fail to elicit much emotional response from me at all. On a scale of 1 to 10 for emotional impact, I'd give this a 4.5. While that may not sound high, it's actually a strong score from me. Unless a story includes depressing elements or something really shocking, I tend to respond mildly to most narratives.

Now, moving on to the characters. They felt real enough—not perfect, but realistic enough to not detract from the story. There are moments that don't make complete sense, such as the MC treating the ML like a real person and falling in love with him, even though she doesn't know he's actually real. However, I can forgive this, as the romance genre often requires a bit of suspension of disbelief. The characters aren't deeply complex, but they're not shallow or superficial either. I'd describe them as "book realistic, " meaning they feel plausible within the context of a typical web novel.

In my experience, most web novels are at least somewhat illogical, so I don't expect everyone I read to be a masterpiece. As long as the characters' actions—like their expressions, words, and movements—feel natural enough, I'm willing to overlook minor inconsistencies. Unless the characters are completely one-dimensional or behave wildly out of character, I can be lenient.

Overall, I'd give this a 4/5. <<less
