After the Group Disbanded, I Became Famous!

After waking up from a nap, actor Lu Xu found himself transmigrated into a member of the popular idol boy group Verse.

The good news is, he has a handsome face.

The bad news is, Verse had just disbanded, and Lu Xu not only became the least popular member, but he was also the only one kicked out of the company.

Verse fans only had “three favorites” left.

A quick search of the keyword “Lu Xu” turns up thousands of scandals, with even stray dogs wanting to kick him.

While his former teammates are skyrocketing with new opportunities, he’s stuck with a contract for a terrible web drama, playing a greasy second male lead, and his savings aren’t even enough to pay the penalty for breach of contract.

How to turn things around? That’s the question.

#Everyone knows this is a crazy web drama, but still can’t resist being drawn in by the craziness#

#Among a sea of greasy guys, the second male lead is actually not greasy at all#

Everyone thought that after Verse disbanded, Lu Xu would become an unknown, but to everyone’s surprise, he started from the bottom with a tr*shy web drama, and with every drama he shot, he became more and more popular, steadily rising to the top.

Honestly, it was kind of entertaining until I realised the massive issue with this novel. It reads more like a report than an actual story. It's like a retelling of a certain era in the entertainment industry. The reason is simple, there is zero human interaction. The "conversations" you see are simply just forum and social media people discussing web dramas, dramas or movies.

The chapters are very long and, I think up to chapter 45, the MC has probably had less than 20 actual lines that he has spoken to... more>> people. You see very little of actual acting, shooting or actual interactions in the set. The author simply spends a few lines telling you what happened, and it's then followed by chapters upon chapters of "netizens" discussing any ongoing set drama or the popularity of the works.

Even up to chapter 45, you still don't have any idea of what MC is like other than the fact that he loves acting and was a big-time actor in his first life. Giving it a neutral rating because the beginning was really good. It set up the conflict and had me looking forward to what would happen and maybe would've been great if it continued in that direction, but it's clear the author has no idea how to tell a story. <<less

I thought I'd end up dropping this as soon as I started it but surprisingly, I liked how the story went.

Personally, I don't know why this novel compels me to keep reading. I've read different entertainment novels that have similar stories but this novel still firmly catches my attention on every update. Maybe it's the MC or maybe it's because of his relationships or the simple plot. Or maybe because of how crazy his life actually is, if you think about it. Whatever it is, I just can't drop the... more>> novel for some reason.

MC:

Spoiler

Short summary: MC is a troll.

The MC is not someone who takes shots at him lightly. I got so used to MCs acting so gentle and cold or having other people do the job for them so seeing the MC fighting back is very refreshing. He's so petty, it made me want to read more.

Because the OG has a bad reputation, he utilizes it instead and posts whatever he wants. He pities and symphatizes with the OG for having such a tragic life despite being so shy, kind, and hopeful so him basically face-slapping the former members with his words and acting is immensely satisfying. 130+ chapters in and he's still petty. He's so funny in the way he fights back. I laughed so hard when he fought back on the criticism about actors of TV series have status that are lower than the film industry.

Despite his pettiness however, he's pretty serious about acting. He fairly analyzes other dramas without caring about his competitors (ie. His former group member and other actors). He simply criticizes their plot and acting as a fellow actor.

Outside of acting, he's a laid-back person who acts casually with people. He's very funny and his interactions in public so far made me chuckle because of how dumb and crazy he was.

We get some short info about his former life but the author doesn't mention it a lot (so far). The only thing we know was he went from a newbie to a well-known actor from hard work so him transmigrating into a hated actor is nothing new. Personally, this kind of background is pretty normal in other showbiz novels.

Instead of focusing on his past, the author instead focuses on the present.

Story:

Spoiler

I got used to how authors write entertainment novels so the way the author wrote this one is not that weird to me. They would reveal some details like what kind of character and background the MC is playing. They have some summary about his dramas so I still have an idea about what the MC is doing. I don't mind it being short because sometimes, long explanations about the drama (in other novels), make me exhausted. If an author keeps making long summaries about a drama for 200+ chapters, I will get tired and bored by the end of it.

I'm here for the literal drama (on internet) ✨

Same as other showbiz novels, this one also has a lot of feedback from the MC's audience whether they're a passerby, hater, or fan.

Surprisingly, despite the MC being handsome, it's not the type of story that describes his face in every few paragraphs. Instead, they just say he's handsome and that's it. The fans go wild for it which is expected from fans. There's no repetitive paragraphs full of weird metaphors and detailed adjectives.

Plus, there's no romance. It's hard to look for showbiz novels that have no romance. Romance usually ruins the plot for me when all I want to see is the MC pursuing his career. Nice!

Basically, it's a fun read (not too amazing and not too bad) despite the second-hand embarrassment I got from the MC's first drama.

Usually, showbiz novels would have a relatively normal first drama for their MCs so the fact that the MC in this novel got an incredibly crazy plot for his is just wild to me. Honestly, I respect the MC for delivering his lines without batting an eye on the plot.

It can get repetitive with the face-slapping but honestly, this novel isn't meant to be taken seriously. Him being "Gary Stu" and face-slapping people are pretty much in line with most novels nowadays that I don't even bat an eye on it anymore. I just read this for fun and nothing more.

[collapse]

Characters:

Spoiler

I also like the side characters. One director made me laugh and respect him so much because of how he handled the scandal for a friend. Also because of his (💩) reaction LMAO. He's as petty as the MC if not more so lol.

I like that the screenwriters and authors were given the stage in terms of their importance in scripts and adaptations.

The other actors he acted with are also pretty mature instead of the usual dog-blood drama where one actor would act all high and mighty and then the MC will have to fight for that role like in other showbiz novels. I think it's mainly because his roles so far are for low budget TV dramas so the other actors and the production team are pretty down to earth. That, and the fact that he sees losing a role a normal thing for actors so if it's taken from him, he shrugs it off like a normal person. He acted with one jerk but that guy wasn't replaced because the director didn't want to waste money and time.

The one I like so much is Shao Yao! He's naturally funny and cute! A very funny giant. He's like a kid huhuhu. I wanna hug him??? Unfortunately, he's surrounded by a bad influence (MC) lmao. He's so cuuute! (Also, their drama together is my favorite so far. The suspense, supernatural, and mystery made their drama really interesting. It kind of makes me want a show like this.)

[collapse]

Antagonist:

Spoiler

Obviously, MC has a lot of enemies. But I do have to admit that the most annoying one is this older guy who hates the director MC worked with. He's actually very cold-hearted and would use even those he deemed as his students and friends to destroy someone. He's good at hiding his flaws with a mask of a wise and fair man.

I actually want him to go down because he's such a greedy a**hole.

As for the OG's former group members, they're pretty annoying and way too arrogant after they stole the OG's resources like some parasite. Them and their company are so freaking shady, I'm so glad the OG was kicked out instead of remaining there.

[collapse]

Not meant to be a rant or anything about the first review but:

The other review stating there's zero human interaction is not true??? His interactions with other people (actors, directors, friends, enemies, rivals, script-writers, book authors) is my main enjoyment in reading this novel (especially his relationship with his friends). The latest chapter even shows his shenanigans with them and their fans making fun of them. He even interacts with his fans (and haters) online when he feels like it. He also met up with his fans irl as well and talked to them a little during his break. So I dunno about this bit. If anything, there's a lot of interaction.

My problem with this and other showbiz novels:

Spoiler

It's almost always repetitive.

The MC faces trouble, he fights back. The audience mocks him, he proves them wrong. They believe he's going to flop, he proves them wrong.

This kind of writing is very boring if the only excitement in between are a few crumbs. At the very least, this novel is okay. It's not the best and it's not the worst.

This is my first time writing a review, but I just have to share why this novel is so enjoyable—Lu Xu himself! He works with what he has and slowly turns things around. I really love how calm, mature, and quick-witted he is when handling gossip.

The novel also does a great job of showing the chaos of showbiz. The way people flip-flop between love and hate, the power of social media, and the ridiculousness of certain industry trends are all captured in a way that feels both real and hilarious.... more>> The scattered hashtags make it feel like you're scrolling through a real fan forum, reacting to the drama as it unfolds.

Even without romance, the story never feels lacking. Instead of a love story, it focuses on self-growth, friendship, and proving yourself in a world that’s quick to judge.

One thing to note is that the novel is a bit lacking in dialogue. It tends to focus more on describing characters' actions rather than conversations. For me, this wasn’t a big deal, but if you're not a fan of descriptive writing, you might want to consider this before reading. <<less

Rating: 4/5

Translation: Fairly good. Certainly readable.

Summary: Lu Xu is a famous actor. Lu Xu is also a failed idol targeted by the fans of his former idol group. One day, actor Lu Xu suddenly becomes disgraced idol Lu Xu. Facing a dwindling bank balance and a large contract termination fee for a very low tier drama, Lu Xu grits his teeth. Now follow Lu Xu as he showcases his acting chops and claws his way out of the hole he's in. Step by step, Lu Xu reaches the pinnacle!

... more>> Main Character:

Lu Xu is an okay character. He's honestly a little bland. Funny and witty but also somehow constantly compared to a puppy and seen as not very intelligent. He starts off being very witty but by the last half of the novel, he's just boring.

Characters:

Yikes. This is where it loses half a star.

Everyone in the industry can be divided into (1) people who like MC and (2) people who hate MC. The former is mainly composed of MC's two dumb friends and other co-stars that the author barely keeps track of. The latter is composed of every single person who hates MC because he's successful, disrespectful, low-brow, not an insider, etc. The latter group is the one the author actually keeps track of and will continuously tell you about how they're doing until they're so lost and beneath the MC that there's no chance of a comeback.

Be prepared for a certain level of inexplicability. People who like MC are all SERIOUS actors/directors who are awed by MC's acting and popularity and thus have no issue with MC winning back to back awards. People who dislike MC all have IMPURE motivations and hate MC for being more popular, a better actor, more successful, etc. And thus will continuously target MC.

Plot:

Honestly where this loses another half a star. It's BORING after a while. In the beginning, he's either acting or being witty and smart while dealing with his haters which is fun. After a while though, this story becomes solely about MC's acting. While the pacing isn't slow, the novel just dragged on for so long with no clear goal in sight. At the beginning, there was still some attempt to fully convey what MC was doing in pursuit of his career. He went to auditions, he practiced his lines, he went to film commercials, he got a sponsorship, etc. Later, however, it's clear that the author just ignored all of these aspects so they can keep writing about all the different movies MC is in and how much box office and how many awards. It just becomes

"Good scripts are hard to find because something wrong with the industry"

"Here's this random script. I don't like to play the same type of character or genre too many times" (ALTHOUGH HE REALLY DOES) and then "filming filming filming done!"

"I guess I should do (generic unspecified commercial events for sponsorships) UGH but I'm a professional"

"Release date! Oh wait there's this other movie releasing and their team is being SUPER SHADY. Also everyone underestimates me!"

"MEGA HIT ALERT! Everything I touch turns into gold! I'm so handsome. There's no one else like me!"

"Award season! People are being shady. I don't care if I win or not but everyone except my haters agree it has to be meeeeee!"

"I won, as exepcted. I'm the best. See y'all next time!"

Rinse. Repeat. Boring.

It also ends very abruptly, probably because the author ran out of ideas and couldn't continue milking it anymore. <<less

The story is good with how MC journey in his acting career while sometimes roasting troll in internet.

What the most annoying thing is the cyber bully for me.

The original body of MC is a poor honest guy to a point of s*upid. Being taken advantage, betrayed, being bullied and got his name smeared. Countless cyber bullying and the ending is su*cide by taking sleeping pill and MC transmigrate. Dunno why MC comes, maybe a soul resonance or maybe MC is his lost soul cause the original body is kinda too... more>> s*upid when all the tragedy was explained.

All the cyber bullying that is done by "brain - idiot" idol fan is really tragic for the original body. And it ends with just sending private message of saying sorry. Each time this "idiot" telling the original body to just die, it is really morally crazy how the entertainment is allowed like that without law.

One of the mystery is how government never appear as authoritative existence and how MC family never being mentioned.

Well all in all the story of acting is good. Just the internet is too lawless. <<less

This is a pretty fun read. Tons of pretty decent face-slapping, though so far absolutely everything has ended well for MC, which some might find it repetitive. That's not to say the face-slapping is boring or not well done. Personally, I found all the face-slapping satisfying and funny. If you're looking for a light, fun read without any really deep drama, this is definitely a good choice.

MC is untouchable so far but he's still likable and fun to watch, mainly because of all his hilarious retorts and comments on social... more>> media towards people who try to bring him down. He's a pretty adept troll tbh.

Also, the translation quality is wonderful. Everything was so fun and smooth to read, props to A Wandering Potato. <<less

I dont know how to revise the rating, shouldve been 3.5

pros

1. Well-executed face-slapping troupe

... more>> 2. The scripts he does are genuinely compelling, makes me want to watch his works myself

cons

1. The novel overly criticise idol-turned actors, yes they tend to be worse in acting compared to pure actors but some are genuinely talented. This novel focus on how those with resource tend to be immature and underserving of them. Which are true in some cases, would prefer a less black or white division though

2. Gary stu, original dude is dumb, new guys is all powerful. Strikes as lazy writing, author use transmigration as a way to combine terrifyingly competent and young with a miserable past

3. Some antagonists are purely there to hype the MC, cardboard characterisation. For example a senior actor bailed on a production and he knows it's unethical despite being legal so he planned to stay low. But the MC doing well turned him into a jealous idiot digging his own grave? Is this necessary? Does this rando need to suffer for the MC to flourish? I feel making existing "antagonists" the former group members more compelling would have been a better direction

overall it is ok, seen some better and worse works, sits comfortably in the middle. If you're new to the gary stu film emperor troupe this is a decent work. Im sick of that dou so dropping on now. <<less

My actual rating would be a 4.5.

If you like an OP protagonist that always wins, has a sharp tongue, with some faceslapping scenes then you may enjoy this novel. It involves the entertainment scene and heavily involves the voices of netizens.

Why I like the novel:

- MC, Lu Xu is a genius actor who has talent and also works hard. All the movies and dramas that he’s involved in is described in detail in this novel and it is very interesting. Made me wish that the movies and dramas were actually... more>> real. I enjoyed reading about his acting prowess.

Why I felt the novel was lacking:

- MC did not struggle much on his journey. In his first life which wasn’t elaborated much, he appears to be a famous actor. So when he transmigrated, he continues the pathway of being an actor and he’s already really good at acting. He doesn’t even struggle with any schemes by his rivals. They mostly just talk sh*t about him and MC will retaliate back with sarcasm. But no actual proper satisfying faceslapping scenes actually happen.

- This novel focuses heavily on netizen comments and their POVs when watching MC’s shows. Be prepared for a lot of cyberbullying scenes and parasocial relationships.

- There is no romance, which is fine. But it just seems as though MC is just focused on work and acting and there aren’t much warm, human scenes of MC feeling lonely, or tired or even just his thoughts. The warm scenes are just when he hangs out with his two friends and even then its from the POV of their fans. There is no introspection of the MC’s emotions. This novel doesn’t have emotional depth. It was focused on MC’s career.

All in all, I still enjoyed reading it but it felt more like a biography of a super great actor lol.

Translation is SUPERB. Made me give 5 stars. I didn’t bother to continue with MTL and will finish this novel when they’re done translating. Thank you! <<less

I just finished reading this novel and all I can say is that its enjoyable to read.

MC Lu Xu possessed the body of a failed former member of an idol group. He's actually OP and doesn't give a f*ck to his haters and even fights back everytime someone talks sh*t about him.

I really like the plot of TV dramas and films that he starred at and it's good to see his haters dumbfounded everytime he breaks views records and box office hits.

One thing that I'm quiet annoyed while reading this,... more>> is that there's a lot of brainless celebrities that tries to bury him in the industry (especially his former band members and agency) but they failed everytime and only suffers in defeat.

Most importantly, cyberb*llying in this novel is INSANE. I really feel bad for the original body because he really suffered with tons of hate comments about him that wanted him to die. I'm glad the MC is not goody two-shoes unlike the orig body.

All in all, it's lighthearted and easy to read. I love the faced-slapping moments (even if its repetitive) and its satisfying to see about what happened to those who tries to undermine our Film Emperor Lu Xu. <<less

It's is nice simple lighthearted read.

The MC is OP and solve all of the obstacles in his way easily.

The antagonists are all dumb and dig their own holes.

The story is easy to follow but gets repetitive at times. The dramas that the MC plays in is interesting. I recommend this novel for those that likes to read faceslapping.

AHHHHH MY FAVEEE!!! MC's personality was right up my ally!! Fave MC hands down (for this trope). I mean, the comedy??? Bros tongue is literally poisonous, and I LOVED how he never hesitated to clap back at people publicly, and easily face slapped them. The development of his career was also VERY well done, each tv show and series and film he acted in had well-developed and unique plots that were described in depth and not brushed over. Also had a very endearing cast of side-characters, especially his two best... more>> friends. The ending also tied everything together. Hoping TLer can translate the final 6 extras for us <3 The TL was of super high quality too!

✅entertainment industry

✅rebirth + second chance + revenge + face slapping -- career focused, no romance (perfect for this novel), close friendships

✅actor, poisonous tongue, bold, comedic, op mc

✅well-developed series and film plots <<less

I have to say, Lu Xu is a very admirable and awe-inspiring character that I've ever read. Really, from the beginning until the end he brought a very positive energy, and his antics (especially with his friends) makes me laugh until my stomach hurts.

He's not only brought positive energy to everyone around him, he also helps them found their dreams and aspirations in their craft. I can list a very long list about his quirks and personalities that bring smiles to everyone he meets, but in the end my impression... more>> about him can be summed as one sentence: He's truly a living legend.

I want to thank the translator too, I honestly loves their work in translating this novel. Every chapter is so engaging and I feel that they can capture both the funniest moments and the most serious ones (I especially loves the fans interaction!!!). Thank you very much for translating this wonderful novel with such beautiful translation!

From the moment you read this review maybe you already know this, but I still want to say that I truly love this novel, and I want to recomend this novel. It's truly rare to have such a genuine and beautiful friendship in novels about entertainment industry. I can say that from this point alone, this novel is unique and worth trying. I hope you like Lu Xu and his friends too! <<less

“To outsiders, it might have looked like he won awards effortlessly, but to his fans, every achievement of Lu Xu’s was the result of his hard work.”

Unfortunately, the author has written this novel seemingly with the perspective of an outsider. It’s an okay read to pass the time but it definitely gets boring because of the Gary Stu nature of the protagonist. Not once did I feel Lu Xu’s struggles in his portrayal of various characters since the novel mainly focused on the results of his acting career rather than... more>> the actual experience of being an actor. <<less

Coming off of a fluff novel entirely void of any progress in the story (Green Tea Villainess Fails), I initially loved this one for satisfying my craving of anything going on. Sadly this one goes to far in the complete opposite direction. There is almost no actual relationships and I'm not talking about the romance kind just any at all. He gets friends, but their interactions are practically non-existent.

Like someone else said, this reads like a list of things done and the worst part it gets worse the further you... more>> read. Not just because you get tired of it, but also because it actually gets worse. Towards the end I was confused at some points because I didn't even remember he had completed one movie and started another one since it was just mentioned in a quick sentence.

Best part of the novel was this insult:

"OP, it’s perfectly normal you couldn’t understand the film—because you’re human, not a beast." <<less

Dropped at chapter 189. A reviewer who stated that this story is full of narrative didn't get it wrong. Yeah, the narrative feel isn't boring at first but gets old. The emotional connection to the MC is weak due to the style.

The things I didn't like were the overuse of cycles of MC being dissed and coming out ahead each time and the descriptions of MC's exceptional acting talent being liberally conveyed throughout. I gave up in the middle of another pointless dissing cycle. This novel would've received a better... more>> rating if it was shorter. <<less
