After the Passerby Cannon Fodder at an Elite Boys’ School Suddenly Transformed

Ning Song found himself transported into a prestigious all-boys school. As everyone knows, in the world of BL novels, elite boys’ schools are breeding grounds for romance. Surrounded by male leads from countless love stories, he found himself caught in a whirlwind of affections.

For example, Pu Yu, who stood at the top of the school’s social pyramid, had a chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce, was ranked first in his class, captain of the school’s rugby team, had a narrow waist and a body like a manga character, but was cold and aloof, rarely speaking and always alone.

Then there was Sheng Yan, the heir to a business empire. He was incredibly wealthy and donated a building to the school. An unbridled mixed-race beauty with countless admirers, he was an idol with an unrivaled presence.

And there was Li You, the leader of the school’s feared gang, who exuded a rebellious and unruly charm, like a wild dog no one could leash.

There was also Shen Lingsi, the student council president, who had a pure and gentle appearance, wore glasses, looked like the white moonlight in every man’s heart, and enjoyed immense popularity.

Of course, there was also the arrogant vice president who looked down on everyone like a proud peacock, the second-generation rich kid with a bad personality who liked to bully ordinary people, the playboy who scorned love, the quiet and studious class president, the tall, bronzed and muscular athlete, and the beautiful and sultry dancer.

They were all rich, good-looking, and often involved in pure or messy same-s*x romances. Almost everyone was BL material.

But none of this had anything to do with Ning Song. He transmigrated to the bottom of the school’s social pyramid, as a plain-looking ordinary person from a poor neighborhood, a common cannon fodder character in countless BL novels. He passed by various love stories every day.

For example, when the gentle student council president fought with the gang, he was there. When the school heartthrob, Sheng Yan, beat up a sleazy middle-aged man in a KTV, he was there. When the usually solitary top student, Pu Yu, unexpectedly attended a party, he was there. When the rebellious school bully, Li You, unexpectedly bought roses at a flower shop, he was there too!

Other people: “…How come you’re always there?”

Ning Song gave a faint cough. “I’m just a generic cannon fodder, coincidentally brushing shoulders with the protagonists.”

But as puberty hit, his skin improved every day, his eyes turned more beautiful, he grew fairer and his figure developed.

SOS! This was too dangerous for a school full of romantic rivalries!

Every day he racked his brain to look more ordinary, even changing identities for each of his part-time jobs!

During one summer vacation, his classmates went to the beach to find Ning Song, who was said to be working part-time at a surfing club.

Then they saw a young boy in a one-piece swimsuit with long legs and a smile that outshone the sun.

“Are you… Ning Song?”

That summer, he transformed into the school’s number one beauty.

The entire school was in an uproar!

I really can't stand novels where every rich and handsome male lead ends up falling for the MC. Like, he transmigrates as a cannon fodder who was barely even relevant in the original story and suddenly everyone's obsessed with him? He goes from average-looking to stunning, becomes good at everything, and somehow outshines everyone else. It's just too much.

I went into this thinking it'd be one of those stories where the MC ends up in a BL universe, sticks to his small role, watches things from the sidelines, and quietly... more>> finds love along the way. That would've been great. But no..... everyone just had to fall for him.

The story's good, sure. I'm happy he ends up with the ML. But I really wish the other three love interests got proper stories too. Like, give them someone else to love! I even shipped them with other characters. But nope, we didn't get any of that.

And what happened to the characters who had a strong presence early on? Like the supposed OG protagonist who liked the male leads? They just disappeared by the end. It felt so unfinished.

Spoiler

Pu Yu is the ML thank goodness. If MC ended up with Sheng Yan I would have hate this so much.

Sheng Yan is infuriating.

Lou Ye, he is 10 times better than shengyan.

And shen lingshi didnt even have any presence. I dont even know if I remember his name correctly.

I love Pu Yu and Lou Ye the most. They are the most respectable also

[collapse]

I just don't get why the MC had to be insanely attractive and good at everything. If the love interests fell for his personality, why make him perfect too? It's overkill.

He had it way too easy—four bigshots protecting him, no real struggles, everything handed to him. I wanted to see some growth or actual challenges, not smooth sailing from the start.

And the constant "he's so skinny" comments? We get it. I liked that he got healthier over time, but did we really need to turn him into some godly figure? A more flawed, grounded MC would've been way more interesting.

I think I feel this way because I prefer stories that feel more realistic. It just hits harder when characters have flaws, struggle, and earn their happy ending.

But whatever, this is just me ranting. However I did enjoy reading this. So Don't take my words for it who knows, it might actually resonate more with you.

I think more than just a harem novel, this novel also blooms into a touching youth/school life novel.

The pacing of this novel is excellent. It takes its time to develop all the important relationships. In the harem stage, there's the budding relationships, the sourness between love rivals. When you think a relationship stage starts to stagnate, it boils over to a new stage and sets a different dynamic. I never felt annoyed by things dragging out.

There's also a final male lead (don't read the Chinese summary if you don't want... more>> to be spoiled). And there's also a focus on their relationship after they get together! So you get the sweetness too, and the plot takes on new elements or resolves old ones and shifts away from harem shenanigans.

I also really liked (most of) the harem. Well, the important ones anyways. It's a four man rivalry but two get more focus. Despite the absurd premise of elite boys school, it doesn't actually rely too much on boring cliches. The male leads don't bully the main character or harass him. They're friends with him in their own way and respect him. You don't get weird forced love scenarios or s*xual harassment. It's refreshing to read.

Non-spoiler description of the male leads in no particular order.

1. Pu Yu - taciturn and gloomy CEO type who is actually very clingy

2. Sheng Yan - bright and moving, destined for stardom

3. Li You - wolfish but with a very gentle heart imo

4. Shen Lingsi - secretly unhinged but ultimately, boring

Honestly I feel like other than shen lingsi, in other circumstances I feel like MC would work well with the other two leads : (thankfully their stories do get a happy ending but it's very sour and bittersweet. I really liked them and their individual dynamics with the MC.

Ning song is also a fun and lively MC. He's way more fake and controlled in the beginning but as he opens up you get to see his lively side. He's steady at heart and very sincere. As mentioned in the summary, he becomes super gorgeous so be warned of various descriptions on that end towards the latter story.

I do like that all male leads fall for him before he becomes super good looking. He's not ugly in the beginning, just under nourished.

Honestly, it's an enjoyable read. The harem stage is exciting and comedic, with the sweet budding of love. The couple stage is sticky sweet with the sourness of growing up and unrequited love. There are some loose threads but I don't really care about some characters so whatever. <<less

A lot of people says that the ML is boring yada yada yada, you guys do not understand the slowburnnn, the chemistryyy, the complexityyy of his characterr!! I love himmm😠😠!!

Spoiler

considering the whole picture, Yeah sure Sheng Yan is good, but if Ning Ning got together with him. It's gonna be soo boring. He's character is soo second lead type for me. I like the MINT, SPICINESS, GLOOMINESS of Yuyu. Ningning is sunny enough, bright enough to be his Yuyu's sun. He doesn't need another sun like Sheng Yan cuz I might as well d*e

I love this author, and I love every novel she writes.

This is the third novel of hers that I've finished, two of which are harems, and both of which are my favorites. Not because of my choice of ML who managed to get the MC, not because I just love every character written by author-nim.

Pu Yu and Pei Xu, they are different, and two different novels, but for some reason I feel they are the same (?), their characters are like one, I like them, quiet, sexy, but they have... more>> the greatest love, full of effort and sincere.

And I really like how the author always creates OOPs to every MC character she creates, as if, they have to be created to be admired and loved ❤️

This is just fiction, so I love fiction that can make my imagination world colorful.

Sweet, gentle, family-like, yet hot and fun school life stories!!! <<less

had really high hopes for this as a cute, light, fluffy, harem novel but I had quite a few gripes about it. I'm usually a casual reader and I'm pretty lenient about things I don't like in the novels I read but this one...i had such a big problem w/ the main ml.

the story is about ur typical poor MC but unlike other novels, he actually has a backbone. I love the storytelling w/ the coming of youth theme in the back, it's such nice detail. the growth of the... more>> MC, as well as the other mls are the only things that kept me trudging through tbh. you have for main mls:

  1. cold, but only soft for MC CEO boss man, Pu Yu
  2. cheerful, cute, white-haired little flirt, Sheng yan
  3. misunderstood bad boy, Li You
  4. student council president w/ a sadistic streak, Shen Linshi (veryyy forgettable)
Spoiler

back to my problem, I hated pu yu. omg I don't even know why I have such an issue with him because usually cold-faced mls are fineee. like I have no problem with other ones. I think what I didn't like was just how...... annoying he was? bro was soooo clingy. like sheng yan didn't like him because of that but I ALSO hated it. to cut him some slack, yes, pu yu is very honest about his feelings. he's extremely straightforward. typical possessive ceo type stuff, you know what I'm saying??? but that's why I hated him in this case. he has no other friends other than the MC, and that's because he doesn't want to. he doesn't even bother trying to integrate himself with the mc's NON-LOVE INTERESTS' friends. he'll call and text and cling whenever the MC is going anywhere or doing something, and yea some might say that's cute I CALL IT SO DAMN ANNOYING BRO. it's such an ick 😭 sorry.

other reviews bring in good points about him, and I will admit that, but idk man... pu yu was so frustrating for me. I personally would've loved sheng yan to be the ML but that's just me. pu yu pissed me off the most with his behaviour. like they might have more in common but without that then what? some might call it fate then, that it's such a cute coincidence they're both into gaming, I call that the author's garbage outline. it got to a point for me that I just hoped pu yu wasn't who he ended up with even though the signs were ALL pointing in that direction.

li you as a love interest would've been cute too. I think I just sympathize and like that more. they both grew up poor and it would've been a sweet story of how even just one lifetime of poverty can shape you, and how it just takes one person for you to try and better yourself in circumstances that were unfavourable to you from the start. can you just tell I fking hate pu yu 💀

it's worth a read but I think it just let me down 3.8/5 <<less

Reading this novel felt like a fever dream, I thought I had lost the enjoyment I initially had when I started reading danmei but reading this took me back to those days. It might not have high ratings like other popular novels but to me it's an embodiment of my favorite tropes in danmei. First of all I'm a face con so I really like MC's physical appearance, , every time his appearance is described, , I can't help but like him all over again. I also like his sunny... more>> personality. I admire how strong his mental fortitude is, , if I were in his place I might have suffered from an inferiority complex due to how everyone is of high status and good-looking. He's a strong MC which is one of my favorite tropes. Another thing that I liked is how satisfying it felt when he ended up with the ML whom I was shipping him with. I like how he teases the ML. I like the ML, he appears indifferent and unapproachable on the outside but inside he's gentle and even acts clingy and coquettishly towards the MC. I Feel that they're perfect for each other. <<less

If you like [boys over flowers]'s kind of harem troupe, you'll probably like this. It's like the bl version of it, just without the bullying and melodramas.

The writing flow was overall consistent, but I'm not the biggest fan of how the author kept "telling" and not "showing". For example, how "MC is a genius" "MC develops a very fun game" etcetc but we don't see any process of the game development, nor his problem solving capabilities. I'd rather be shown how capable he is instead of reading how MC is... more>> super good at things... because he's super good at things.

MC is a underdog who climbs up the social ladder through how amazing he is, so I wish the author could channel the detailing she gives MC's appearance into his poweress instead. She emphasizes on her other MCs' appearances too, but since the focus of this novel is about how the MLs falls for MC's capabilities and not his appearance, I would have really preferred if his face card didn't get mentioned every few chapters.

The plot itself is pretty straightforward and satisfying- a poor underdog becoming the campus grass, or flower in this case, garnering the favour and love of the top students. Since this was already a setting of a BL world, there's a lot of gay couples around, and with that, a lot of teenage romance drama steaming from jealousy. MC has a lot of suitors but it's more of a love triangle since two male leads get way more screentime compared to others.

Overall, I skimmed through a lot of it so I won't be rating it. It was the same formula of people looking down on MC -> MC shows how capable he is -> People faceslapped and falls for him so I got a bit bored halfway.

Good for people who wants a leisure novel to pass time. Might reread to fill in the gaps when I want something less heavy. <<less

If you loved the aristocrat boys school novel then this would be the next best thing to read after that one.

I loved the mc’s personality. He was very charming and it was understandable why so many people fell for him. But sadly I personally didn’t feel the same way about the endgame ML. I felt that the MC had way more chemistry with the other ml’s. The ML was extremely boring to me and I honestly skipped most pages he was there. It would have suited if the MC ended... more>> up with all of them then I would have accepted the ML’ character. <<less

I just want to say that the ML is not boring okay? He's cute!! He's the best for mc! They balance each other! Sunshine x Silent Type ml! The MC needs someone like him who listens to him while he talks unlike the second ML who's a sunshine too. I think if the MC ended up with Sheng Yan, they'll just broke up because of Sheng Yan's work. Not that the MC love SY romantically. I'm just hurt that people keeps on saying that ML is boring which is not... more>> true because clearly he has his own personality too. From the start I have a haunch that ML is the ML hehehe they're cute together really. I'm sad for Li You 😞 hope he'll move on.

Buttt hahahahaha I laughed so hard with those side character couple hahaha those drama kings HAHAHAHA 😭😭 they're cute too. That would be all. I binge read this danmei for one night and day hehe <<less

Tbh I don't wanna write a review. The novel is so damn good I feel like I can't put into words exactly how much I love it. But I need an outlet to pour out all the complex feels I got from reading this novel, so here I am.

First things first. This novel is severely underrated and deserves more recognition.

Characters, relationships, setting, plot development, damn, even the technical writing style, all of them are stellar. This is what a good romance novel looks like, people. Author knew damn well how... more>> to pen teenage friendship and how falling in love feels like. The way she painted their thoughts? Their actions? Their reactions? Chef's kiss. They're not mere 2D characters but living, breathing people experiencing their first love and first heartbreak.

I am the type of reader who goes through novels, manhwa and manhua as easy as breathing. I've read so much I thought it would be near impossible for me to be this impressed, like I'm a giggly highschool girl, all over again. I wasn't expecting to find a treasure when I clicked on this novel, to find a novel that is now my personal favorite among BLs.

At this moment, I am still overwhelmed with feelings, basking in the afterglow of finishing this novel. Maybe I'll edit my review later when I find a better way of praising this story. <<less

It's very well written.

It's a happy ending for me coz my pick is the main ml.

I like the story very much. Some ml's are good, some not.

The pacing is great, no boring moment.

No unnecessary drama.

Lots of dog food.

I only like 2 ml.

Spoiler

I like Pu Yu the best. His personality is the complete opposite of Ning Song. But, even if they have opposite personality, they fully understand each other. They are a perfect match. Perfectly fit each other.

My 2nd pick is Li You. He's such a respectful gentleman. I love how he prioritizes Ning Song's safety and happiness over his own. His selfless love to Ning Song is very admirable, unlike the other ml.

[collapse]

The other ML is meh.

Spoiler

I like Sheng Yan before he realized his romantic feelings for Ning Song. At that time he was such a sunshine. But after he realized hus feelings, he became such an unlikable person. He changed so much. He knows what will make Ning Song happy, but his main concern is how can he win Ning Song. He also always bad mouth Pu Yu. That Pu Yu is too clingy. Which is yes, he is. But so are you!! That he is green tea, which he's not?? Green tea means you're acting, but Pu Yu is not acting. He's like that bcos he like Ning Song and comfortable with him. 😤

Shing Lingsi. Is he even a ml? He's presence is too low to consider as a ml. And near the end, he looks like he's still obsessed with Ning Song. 👀

As refreshing as homemade lemonade on hot summer day.

I loved this sweet school romance, it was bittersweet since only one male lead prevails. Fortunately, it was the one I cheered for and even though I actually checked who will be the end game (I am not fan of harem genre and my poor heart can’t handle rooting for wrong one ;A;), this novel still kept me on edge since MC has chemistry with almost all of them. Below I will write only Male Lead’s name in case someone just like... more>> me and can’t handle heart break:
Spoiler

Pu Yu

[collapse]

Reading this novel was like watching horse racing, you think favored horse will win for sure, then suddenly pops up another and takes lead, favored does its best and takes lead again just for black horse to take it over in next turn. Really exciting while taking place in so called BL school which honestly not as extreme as shown in first few chapters. Later it becomes just love rivalry in school setting while Ning Song takes hold of his new life and does his best to enjoy it. His transformation from sickly thin to blooming beauty was satisfying, he is charming character and no wonder all of these male leads fell in love with him. Thankfully, he was decisive in his choice, he chose the one who really fits his taste and it makes sense, everyone has their own preference. There were actually many instances and parts in which his preference shown, it was interesting to observe those little hints throughout the story.

Now I want to just marvel at how good and diverse Ning Song’s options were so if you don’t want spoilers, please don’t open spoiler below.

Spoiler

There are 4 guys who became MC’s pursuers, each with their own charm: Pu Yu (silent, handsome, rich and caring person), Sheng Yan (singer, very idol handsome, also from rich family), Li You (rebel, wild, loyal, but truly soft at heart) and Shen Lingsi (composed student council president). Even though novel has scenes with all of them, only two are actually giving us tension of who will win: Pu Yu and Sheng Yan. To be honest, I actually liked SY at the start, but when he started pursuing MC... he became so petty, mean and insufferable towards Pu Yu. Trying to look great in front of your love is understandable and fair game, but he was so concerned with beating PY at any corner and occasion... calling him ‘green tea’ and clingy while he himself kinda same xD Especially that moment when MC and PY went on gaming event and came back late at night, he texted and Ning Song said that he is tired and sleepy, but he STILL called him down to give him signed albums of MC’s favorite band. You couldn’t wait till tomorrow and you just had to ruin the moment and tire out already emotionally exhausted person?! That was the moment that any favorable opinion I had of SY dropped for me. He didn’t even recognize that band when MC talked about them at the start! He was also obsessed with jasmine, look MC did like those flowers, but for SY they became obsession. Everything he did for Ning Song was somehow connected to that flower: milk tea, song, occasion... Anyway he was strong competitor, unlike other two: Li You and Shen Lingsi. Honestly, Li You was my second favorite, unfortunately he gives up pretty early and not shown much, but he still respects MC’s choice and not as petty as SY towards Pu Yu. As for student council president, he was weak candidate from the start, he didn’t spend as much time with Ning Song and his reason of love was different. SL started liking MC cause he fitted his dream lover setting which had ‘looking average’ in list so I didn’t really understand how come Ning Song still stayed as his love interest. To be honest, felt like he could move on the easiest after heart break, if he wished to.

Our actual male lead is complete opposite of our main character and that’s what makes them perfect for each other (but it also my biased opinion). Ning Song himself later thinks how he likes their contrasting personalities and as mentioned in chat log at the end: one likes to listen while other loves to talk, that makes us perfect match. In relationship, they are super sweet and respectful, Ning Song likes to have an upper hand in everything and very proactive, but Pu Yu doesn’t lag behind either. They truly love and cherish each other and it is shown in a lot of their gestures.

[collapse]

Author did great work on writing this novel, it wasn’t boring and I couldn’t stop reading. Only nuance is that she forgets little details like Pu Yu smoking (he was shown once and it is explained that he does smoke, but rarely. Later it is mentioned that he never smokes), school emblem was mentioned being those little white flowers which bloom everywhere on their school territory (in last chapter it became rose and sword emblem) and that brand cup with fish design which Ning Song bought for Pu Yu (it was never mentioned of being given to him). Those are the ones I noticed while reading.

Thanks for both translators for picking up this story ♥️ <<less

Done reading this in a day. It's a simple story about youth and first love. The harem here was is not really harem coz the MC really know who he loves since he realise his preferences. He's not fickle like the usual MC in harem novels.

The endgame is really obvious from the start and for the reader who said that MC should end up with A or B or C, you have to see what kind of boyfriend that the MC needes. Not the one us reader like.

Most of the... more>> characters are likeable. I'm glad that at least MC has a friend that really pure friend from the start. He's a beautiful mess and has his own love line.

I am so glad that for once, in this novel, the one with restraint is the ML.

In conclusion, this novel is good for light reading and not too many chapter. The translation is good, too. <<less

It's quite flowery, although it does get a bit better after the intro. And it doesn't feel TOO white lotus, even though MC gets everyone to fall in love with him - they have separate relationships, and the side characters feel alive in their own right. But it is quite typical, shallow, and cliche.

My main problem is as a rooter of underdogs, I can't bear to see my pitiful lil cuties get rejected even though my main ship is canon. Alas, I can only read open-ended harem stories or true-harem,... more>> which are even more rare. <<less

I went in expecting drama (being a harem BL), but it was surprisingly very well written and paced. All of the characters- leads or background characters- had a lot of depth and meaning.

I almost noped out with the fear (after the first couple of chapters) that the MC was going to be forced to do things non consensually when we're seen a character who was strongly suggested as having been coerced by a (non-Harem) character into a s*xual relationship. Thankfully (for squeamish me) it did not take that turn.

I had... more>> a general feeling for the ML early, but none of the menagerie slacked. My favorite character was actually Li You, whose background mirrored the MC's original life (another street kid who grew up having to fight for a place at the table). There was a scene later in the novel related to his arc that was quite moving.

I love MC's thoughts on all the ridiculous things that happen when he remembers that he's in a BL novel. I wish he could have reported back to his best friend (who had talked up the book to him, ad nauseam, prior to entering the book) on the true character of her Student Council President :)

I genuinely wish the best for all these kids. Instead of depending on tropes, in 90 chapters the author made you care (at least myself) about the MC/ML, the remaining harem, the families and the dozens of friends - and some amusing very minor couples. <<less

I think this is just not my cup of tea.

I was just gonna leave a rating as this might be a genre preference issue, but in a hindsight, leaving a review won't really make a difference.

Three stars for is meh. Not bad, but not good.

... more>> I gave it a few chapters to see where the story goes but I felt the author already spoiled the interesting parts.

They used a prophetic narration, telling the readers how it'll be different in the future and how he's going to be this and that.

I don't like this type of writing style. It jarred me from being immersive with the characters and the plot as well. And also, who loves being spoiled with the plot? As far as I know, no one.

Aside from that, it's a typical going to school novel. I think other people may like this vibe but it'll only work for me if there's a plot. So far, the plot was him going to school and be a student.

For me that is a boring plot. At least there should be a goal, or a conflict, or a motivation for something. There's no anticipation, it's just felt like reading a person go to school meets a bunch of people and fall in love.

There's nothing wrong to that, though it did not deminish the fact that it was a boring premise, but as long as the characters were engaging and they're the type that people want to read to, then it'll be fine. But the characters in this book was meh for me. They're varied and maybe well made, they just don't give off anything special, they felt generic in a way that they followed certain tropes, a school hearthrob, a boxer, a school council president, a virg*n playboy, etc.

They felt like characters in a book rather than fleshed out. It's like reading a fever dream, because in no way this is possible to happen in real life and maybe that is why I felt detached to the story.

The MC too was not that engaging. He's okay, I think, but compared to Boys Over Flower's Geum Jan Di, as one reviewers pointed out the similarity in vibes, the MC had little going on. Geum Jan Di is fierce, driven, unconventional, quirky and a lot of funny traits. The MC here was always given flowery descriptions by the author, he's this and that. What I want to see is the him inside, and the premise did not let him off that easily. In the end, he just felt boring to me. He also felt bored too, he had no energy and he felt like a tv screen, just letting us view what happened in his vision. He's not all that, he could have depths later, but I just can't continue reading. My being felt it was a waste of time, so yeah there's that.

It's a school chuchu book, so if you like that then it might work for you. <<less

I think is actually good, has a good story building and each character is unique.

I love the MC, and the ML's are also lovable. The only problem that I have is that the ML that the author shows that is going to be the endgame becomes a little dull) ? For me. At the beginning, he is my favorite one, but with the story progress he gets a little weird, I don't how to explain it.

Overall the story is good, just not a complete Harem novel, cause it's set who... more>> the MC is going to end with since the beginning, no giving a chance to the other cute Main leads. <<less

I REALLY FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS STORY!! For anyone who still hesitate whether to read or not, trust me just read until you reach chapter 40+. It's really worth it!

I felt very overwhelmed when I read the final chapter as in I wants more! Its so nice to see their friendship that lasts until the end. Makes me envious even as I never have true relationship like that.

Shout out to the author and translator who introduces us to this treasure!
