Growing up in an orphanage since he was a child, Tao Mu, who had suffered so much, never thought that his life was actually a result of picking up the wrong script.

Eighteen years ago, two children were born at the same time, but due to the negligence of the medical staff their name tags were switched. Tao Mu, who was supposed to be born in a wealthy family, was sent to an orphanage instead.

Eighteen years later, the mistake was discovered. Tao Mu originally thought everything could go back on track. However, his parents and siblings who were supposed to be the closest family disliked him deeply, lovers and friends also turned their backs on him.

Receiving such a shock, Tao Mu completely revealed his dark side, becoming a vicious cannon fodder that everyone hated. In the end he found himself utterly isolated and committed su*cide by jumping off a building.

After being reborn, Tao Mu was surprised to find that he actually lived in a book. The male protagonist in the book was the Silly White Sweet** who was the other baby that he had mistakenly switched identities with. As for him, he was just the vicious cannon fodder encountered by the Silly White Sweet in his sweet and pampered life.

Tao Mu: f*ck this plot, and f*ck this stereotypical routine. I won’t be playing along in this life!

In other words, this is a dog blood story of a highly provoked cannon fodder no longer mistreating himself to please anyone after being reborn. Instead he will be relying on himself to build an entertainment empire that will catapult him to the top.

** person who is s*upid but in a sweet way

It was fun and interesting, love MC and ML and MC’s family! Both are very OP, with golden fingers to whazoo but it was still great to see MC continually succeed after all the tragedy in his life. It was also great that he really tried to let go of past hatred and just try to live his life and obtain happiness. Too bad he keeps getting dragged back by villain (in more ways than one we ultimately find out), who I have to say is truly a brain dead... more>> white lotus to the extreme! And so are all the ppl who support him. Author did a good job making them all so shameless, it was crazy aggravating, but at least everyone else recognized that villain was completely illogical and loves to play the victim. Wow he was f&#&&g annoying! Can’t stand the weak and pitiful victim act who can’t stop crying and moaning about how hard their life is!

The netizens as usual are super callous, hypocritical, and judgy and it’s quite exhausting reading all the vitriol and absurd righteousness they always spew out in this novel and all other entertainment type novels. Of course, they’re always wrong, face slapping ensues, they feel s*upid, only to jump up and down like clowns the next time. Truly portrayed as losers and busybodies with nothing better to do than insult strangers on the net. It’s quite sad how ppl feel so entitled to judge and insult others behind the screen of anonymity. But I detract.

Story would have been better without the suuuuper lengthy descriptions and explanations, though they were oftentimes very helpful in really digging through the situation and exposing and analyzing the characters’ actions and feelings. I’d say story was a 4 until the last 100 chapters, which really should have been cut down cuz then it just went on and on and on for really no good reason other than author just wanting to drag it out. Then all the loooong ass chapters and descriptions were no longer helpful but just tedious. I basically skimmed through to the end just to complete it. Really, once they got revenge on the villain, they should have just wrapped it up and sent the couple to their HE rather than go through more and more filming and hyping of the Motherland (which we get it, Chinese are Uber patriotic, and China is just too strong, amazing, and made up of red blooded citizens whose blood continually boil over for their country).

I know some novels have an abrupt ending that either leaves loose ends or just wraps everything up too quickly. This one was definitely the opposite and probably what dragged down the rating on an otherwise fun, light read. Nothing too original but certainly worth reading to pass the time. Just skip or skim last 50-100 chapters at least. Nothing really happens. Other than Shen family continuing to be brain dead disasters who can’t learn from their mistakes (esp the sister - she takes the cake. Too bad she didn’t get killed off. In fact, most of the villains live, which was rather disappointing and dragged the story, since they just kept popping back up to create trouble. Sorry, I guess I enjoy more ruthless revenge novels!) and detailed descriptions blow by blow of whatever they’re filming. Like literally the script of the films. And leads getting measured for clothes (like 5 pgs of that), and mentions that leads are worth billions of dollars. That’s mentioned at a dozen times each chapter. We get it. He’s/they’re rich. <<less

I really enjoyed this novel. It had some unique twists to the common rebirth/revenge tropes, I loved the emotional development of the MC, and the villain was put together in an interesting way.

Main reasons I'm not giving it a full 5 stars is that it petered out at the end... the story should have just been ended with maybe an extra or two for the after-fluff, but instead it went on and on and I ended up skimming through multiple chapters, feeling like the actual story was already over and... more>> why was it still going on for so long.

My other complaint is, while I think the villain was put together well, it shaded towards the idea that part of the reason he was bad was because he wasn't the family's son by blood and thereby "fake". There were so many reasons to dislike him; there was no need to make it sound like being switched at birth/basically adopted was a point to hold against him. <<less

In my opinion, there's really nothing to not love about this novel! For the first half of the novel, you'd mostly forget that a ML even exists, because our MuMu is just that capable. And the ML is so sweet and their interactions are diabetes inducing....... too freaking sweet!!!!! 10/10

What an amazing story. I know some people didn't like the verbosity, but I personally loved how detailed the author's descriptions were. There were a couple times when the author repeated descriptions, but for the most part, I felt they really added to the realism of the story. The translator probably wanted to muffle the author during some of the descriptions, but I really appreciated the hard work on the translator's part.

The next thing that really solidified this novel as one of my favorites was the explanation for the rebirth.... more>> I loved it. Some commenters said it explained why he had no expectations for his birth family, but I think it's more than that. It shows how useless it is to compare yourself to others and envy what other people have. Rather than wasting energy on being jealous of someone else for how their privileged upbringing allowed them to have a blessed life, put that energy towards creating the best life possible (and enjoying it). Railing about the unfairness of the world is a waste of energy - of course it's unfair. Comparison and jealousy is a losing game, and will make even great successes feel like losses. I thought this moral was so profound and applied so well to the world today. There will always be people born with better genetics or background or circumstances, but what does that have to do with me? I just need to focus on living my life to the best of my ability.

The other lesson I thought was very meaningful was appreciating other's help. If someone else provides help, it doesn't matter how condescending it might feel, or how it barely requires any effort on their part, it's help they didn't need to give. Nobody owes it to anyone to be generous people. It's strange to feel that someone hasn't done enough just because they gave a little, but not "enough" (whatever enough means). Have people benefited from even the little charity they gave? If so, then just accept the charity with grace.

This also highlights one major difference between the MC and Shen Yu. While Shen Yu would quickly go to others to ask them to help or be generous, that was the extent of it. He rarely did anything generous himself. This kind of generosity is at most virtue signaling with no substance. Forgive others, give to others, help others, but don't think that telling others what to do is the same as doing it yourself.

Finally, I think some might also see this story as an advocate for abandoning "family of origins" in favor of non-birth family. But I don't think that's the lesson here. It's more about how people should appreciate the love of the people who have spent the most effort in raising and loving them. They might get on each other's nerves - people tend to do that when they are around each other often. They might fuss or nitpick or make a bunch of stifling suggestions - that all stems from the fact they actually care. People who never bother to fight or raise contradicting opinions with someone just don't feel close enough or care enough to do so.

Finally, this book isn't prefect. I'm petty tolerant of (though still don't like) patriotism, especially in Chinese novels. I think some authors put it in to help them minimize the chances of getting censored. However, this book takes it to the extreme, especially towards the end. Some of the first movies and TV series the MC participated in were vaguely interesting, but towards the end, the author just ran out of ideas and waxed poetic about the handsomeness of soldiers. First off, I think movies with only action and little plot are some of the least interesting movies out there. Secondly, why describe the soldier TV series and movie both so vaguely and in such detail? I got quite sick of hearing how amazing the fighting and explosions were. If you're going to skim over the plots, skim over the shooting as well. <<less

I avoided reading this novel because of the bad reviews.

I thought this would just be a cliche novel that I would drop instantly but boy was I wrong!!

I couldn’t put this novel down at all. Even when I was working, I was thinking about what would happen next lol

... more>> It’s not particularly exciting, there are also some cliche points and boy its so long because I think the author tends to over explain stuff —— but this novel has a certain charm to it that makes me love it a lot!!

I love how MC interacts with his family, it’s so heartwarming I teared up 🥲

I didn’t like the ML so much as first because 30 chaps in and he only got like 1 scene and in the next chaps, he is barely there plus I feel like him suddenly liking MC is too sudden —- but!! When it’s came to the romance arc, boy was a giggling and smiling like a fool (there’s also another reason why ML seems to suddenly like MC but I won’t spoil you hihi)

Another reviewer mentioned that Shen Yu (the white lotus enemy) was pitiful because he’s dumb and naive but he isn’t a bad person. And I agreeeee!

There were times in the story when I also pitied him but at the end of the day, Mumu (MC) also doesn’t deliberately hurt Shen Yu after his rebirth. It’s Shen Yu that keeps bothering MC and it’s so irritating that he would be like ‘I want to be friends with MC” then he’ll force his ‘righteousness’ on MC. Like MC shouldn’t revenge on his enemy #2 but then when Shen Yu was fighting enemy #2, he himself retaliated. What a two faced, hypocritical b*tch!

Plus, MC majorly ignores him in this novel, MC has a scheming heart but he doesn’t retaliate against the people he hates in the new rebirth life if this people won’t do him wrong

Anyhoooo, it’s a really really good read! Don’t miss out on this just because of the bad reviews.

I recommend not reading this in one go because if you do, you’ll get fed up with how long the explanations are making you skip some paragraphs. But if you don’t read this in one go and take your time, even if there seems to be a lot of paragraphs/explanations it makes the story better

Thanks to Mumu and our Ceo Li for making me smile these couple of daysssss hihi <<less

its alright I guess... but many times it feels like propaganda story rather than story with some meaning and depth. I mean I can understand motherland and country all that but if the story is full of it.. it becomes repetitive, boring and annoying and I invested my time for reading some entertainment industry story but somehow it turned each and every event into some kind pride of country and motherland drama which honestly just pulls you out of the plot. again its my personal opinion you are welcome to... more>> disagree.... I just want to thanks the translator for their hardwork it very well translated piece. <<less

It's pretty good but it has soooo much fillers. I skimmed through the story a lot because there are so many tangent like sub-plots, or so many repetitive sentences throughout the aforementioned subplots, that I was considering dropping it a few times.

Starting off with the cons:

There are two big hurdles in this novel. The first dozen chapters were unbelievably unbearable. The pacing is extremely slow and it was hard to adjust to all the brainless idiots around the MC (story gets better as soon as he gets out of H town though). Then it was the intolerable shameless act of the antagonist which exceeds the average amount you get to see.

And there's my pet peeve of repeating a type of phrasing too much, in this case, it's about foretelling information that... more>> always gets followed up with a sentence about it being in the afterword.

But otherwise, it's nothing but great fun.

The MC's abilities are convincing, though definitely exaggerated, those were skills that he had acquired himself over the years of working hard and still works hard on. The ML, though can be a bit too pushy at times, is nothing but a gentleman who knows how to communicate and work hard to understand and be understood by MC.

Both of them also have their negative sides too, which the author never obscured.

The brainlessness of side characters is mostly attributed to the negative IQ nerfing halo of the antagonist.

The rest whether good or bad, are fleshed out properly to look like people and not like one-dimensional background backups. There were sufficient self-interests from all sides to support either protagonist or antagonists and it was exciting to see it all come/clash together.

Foreshadowing is done moderately to leave the readers enough enjoyment when something surprising happens.

I hope you can also at least persevere past the first arc because the latter half was incredibly enjoyable. <<less

Holy crap!!!!! Woah!!!!!!!

Starts off as typical cannon fodder rebirth (revenge ish) entertainment novel!

But this one goes a little more into the halos and how characters are influenced by the halo (MC being no exception!)

... more>> Overall beginning first 200 chapters is something you can probably guess, MC gets famous and is the real son of this family and he gets a CEO ML yadayadayada

It's at around the later stage where the reincarnation mechanic gets explained!!! This part is where the novel goes from 3.5 stars -> 4.5 stars! (I put 5 because I'm emotional and biased, 4.5 only cause beginning was cliche but yk I enjoyed reading that too!!)

The 1 dimensional characters are explained, the multiple reincarnated ones! The love lasting several lives! Time and reincarnation loops! (I love loops sm

Ending is a bit anticlimactic, with MC just letting go of the past + ML taking revenge on ult villain and restraining him so he can't continue the loop but!!

Everything gets explained and there are no super big plot holes as far as I can tell!

Took me about a week to read with many breaks in between! Def would recommend if you can't find anything else to read <<less

It was just average imo. It had the face slapping I wanted, but the first 60 or so chapters were really boring since it was just Tao Mu building a foundation of allies and resources to later use against Shen Yu. The last like 15 chapters were also boring since the story was basically over and it was just tying up romance related loose ends. Other reviewers are correct, the author restates stuff we already know. Any time a character does something, anyone from a random extra to the main... more>> characters there will be anywhere from a sentence or two to multiple paragraphs explaining why exactly they did whatever they did. It makes the story boring and caused me to skim most parts that weren’t face slapping <<less

Dropped it early. Not because it was bad, but because it was drawn out for such a long time. Each paragraph states the same thing in a different way and drags on before eventually getting back to the story. Kind of tedious to read. I don't really see it getting anywhere.

I read it quite a while back. MTL'ed half the novel after being spoiled by irontreeblooms translating skills so it was hard. But nevertheless I got the point of the entire story, I feel like the MC after all the struggles, sacrifices and the neglect that he has faced, not falling into a depressive worrywart after his rebirth was already plenty great. Our MC was vicious, vengeful, yet loving to his family. I loved the fact that MC and ML got together because they were legit perfect. And omg did... more>> I say I love ML's family? They were so cute, especially ML's father and his aunt. Anyway I lowkey teared up when they started showing the stuff on how Shen Yu got his lucky protagonist halo and how our MC had died in his previous lifetime he didn't know and couldn't get together with ML, it was so sad, they clearly loved each other!

Anyway the story is good, with good elements, I don't remember how much lovey-dovey moments they have but the story's jam packed with family moments. It's a nice story with a self made OP MC (though after falling in love it was almost as if his edge has been rubbed smooth). <<less

Personal Enjoyment: 4.25/5

I say, like the first 75% of this story was all to my taste! Poor to rich, so much business management, such a hardworking and sympathetic protagonist, rebirth with lots of dog blood, face slapping and yet, also a lot of heartwarming feelings. All good.

But then, I don't know why, the author expanded on the whole rebirth/reincarnation cycle situation and it felt too off and kind of broke my immersion. I wish they had just stuck to a simpler end because it was too messy. I also... more>> thought it was unnecessary and didn't add much to the plot.

It doesn't help that the last few TV shows and movies that Tan Mu was involved in felt less special and too similar to each other. After the Flesh and Blood TV series, he made a military TV series and then a military movie and there wasn't any personal oomph by the MC in them. So when all these hooha about breaking the record tv ratings and ooooh, on par with Hollywood blockbusters in revenue, all kinds of rainbow farts that completely worked for me in previous other MC works, did not work for me this time at all. It wasn't believable at all, broke me out of the immersion and also made me impatient to finish the story because it was alrd near the end. I'm not sure if reading these parts in MTL was part of the reason why I didn't believe in the story haha. Anyway, if it were only the parts I liked, this would have been in my favourites!

Writing/Translation: 4/5

The translation I read is from Iron Tree Translations. The translation is quite good. The only issue is that some words have weird spelling mistakes. In the beginning, some words have numbers in the middle, like "w6rld" instead of "world." It's almost like in the process of copying over the translation to the website, it got converted. It's not too common and didn't affect my reading experience. I read the translations up to chapter 249 before I ran out of translated chapters and moved to the MTLnovel website to finish the story. So, it's readable enough to get the gist but it is definitely not as pleasant an experience as the translated version. I would say that if the translated version is a 9.5, the mtl would be 8. There are constant "I" and "you" mistakes, which got a bit confusing in some paragraphs but not too often. Surprisingly, most of the sentence structure is intact. The humour also managed to get through. But some of the whole rebirth explanation and the subsequent characters' planning, I am not 100% confident I understood everything. So take that into consideration of continuing to MTL haha.

Pacing: 3.9/5

I say it is pretty good up to where I read the translated chapters. But maybe it was the MTL, I got a bit impatient and kinda lost interest by then, so I wanted the story to be finished more quickly.

Plot: 3.9/5

This is quite self-indulgent, as the author said hahaha. But filled with all my favourite tropes. Poor to rich, business management, family and friend with heartwarming feelings, rebirth and faceslapping drama XD The plot isn't as tight as it could have been, like some plot points weren't followed up later on, such as the Zhang family. I wanted to know if they succeeded in not going bad, and about the Zhang girl, why did she wait for that bad neighbour at the toilet? What was her intention exactly? Is it to help the MC? Or help herself somehow? Her motivations weren't explained or hinted at at all. On the business side, I don't know if the MC made any money from them too.

I also wanted more follow up from the chef academy too, money wise haha. In a family-building kind of way. For the orphanage as well, did the small business take off? Are they financially stable now? Was a sustainable ecosystem able to be set up? All these things, haha. Otherwise, I love this MC because he is a workaholic, a perfectionist, super smart and very detailed! It definitely helps with the immersion and I love learning new things. I also liked all the financial stuff thrown in, it felt like the author knew about this stuff and slid it in appropriately.

The programming stuff too. I am a programmer and am very interested in personal finance, so it was refreshing to see some realism about these two things in the story instead of, they are so smart they can predict the market, picked stocks and made a boatload of money without actually going into any detail whatsoever. Or you know, they just learn all kinds of programming knowledge, developed a program single-handedly in like a week on an old laptop to capture all the market data and are able to make predictions on the market to day trade and make boatloads of money. This is too unbelievable because that is big data and needs maybe a supercomputer to do all the computing, or at least a bunch more servers than just a laptop, etc. But I definitely believed in the Mc's knowledge and actions, so I was even more immersed which is wonderful.

I like most of the acting stiff too because it felt real. Just my issues with the whole China is great, the military is super cool and everyone should love it, ehhh not my thing. I despise war and military stuff because it causes me anxiety and angst. Also, I'm not sure why the author made the MC do so much military-themed entertainment so close together. Just story-wise, it's repetitive.

Romance: 3.7/5

The romance is quite little overall but when it is there, I enjoyed its development. It is rather slow burn because the MC is just so work-focused and has a very clear line between business and anything else that he believes everyone else is that way too. After that, there is also the fact that he is a highly suspicious person and wary of betrayal due to past experiences so the ML has to put in a lot of work haha. Also, it can be surprisingly very sweet XD. After that, well, relating to the whole rebirth expanded explanation and the romance, it felt like the author wanted to make it a thing. It's just that I couldn't quite buy it. Again, maybe it's the MTL's fault haha.

Setting/Worldbuilding: 4/5

The entertainment industry is fascinating to read about, with how the various production elements work together to create a TV show or film. Investors and actors and stand-ins and props, all kinds of things. I also like the Hong Kong part because I don't really know what their relationship is with each other XD. ALSO, there are a lot of details about the financial world, business stuff and the entertainment industry, so I'm happy.

Characters: 4/5

The MC, Tau Mu is very rootable and made me quite quickly immersed in the story. He's sad, hardworking, full of regrets, has a poisonous tongue and is good at taking revenge. Despite this, he is a huge softy at heart for his people. I love watching all his schemes haha. The ML doesn't appear as much but he is surprisingly sweet and fun the longer they know each other. All the other characters are super distinct, real, and have a lot of depth and vibrancy. It's just that some of them don't get followed up on after their arcs, which they were active in sadly. Well, this story is pretty long, so...

They're so delightfully super annoying, the bad guys. Sometimes it makes the blood boil in a good way because then you look forward to seeing the MC kick them away and stuff lolol. It is enjoyable to read how the MC takes his revenge on hurting his people.

I do have to mention that I did get a bit confused on their motivations and what part they are playing in the story. Like the bad guys at the beginning, because the MC has no power and if fighting won't bring enough benefits, he will just suck it up and smile, the bad guys just keep hanging around as friends. Couldn't make up my mind if the author was trying to make them friendly or what lol.

First off, I have preface this by saying I read the MTL from chapter 235 onward, and frankly, I was too lazy to really translate every word properly the whole way through, so I skimmed through parts of it (especially when I was way too irritated with the villain) --but where the English was just incomprehensible, I read the original raw. That's just in the name of full disclosure. The actual translation is quite fabulous, so kudos and thank you to the translator!

Alrighty, and now to the actual review. I... more>> rarely write these (I'm too longwinded) but I feel this novel deserves one, if only to pull up the ratings a bit.

It starts off like you might expect, a bit like a face-slapping rebirth novel where there's a protagonist halo to avoid and so on. However, it later becomes apparent that the halo is a more sinister than that. At first, I thought it might go down the "external system" route like some other novels I've read, but this novel, when everything is revealed (I'm talking late game, like ch 270+, where the actual truth is revealed--with all due respect reviewers, I don't think some of you got there), actually went a totally different direction that shocked and disgusted me (toward the villain). I really appreciated the freshness of that part of the plot. I love tropes and formulas as much as anyone else but when things surprise me, it's pretty cool ^^

Overall, I think the overall plotline is pretty tightly written when it comes to actual plot (to me, that's what's going on with the whole rebirth situation, actually). The entertainment circle aspect of it can get a bit tiresome at times just because there isn't all that much going on with the dramas/movies that are being shot. The author really doesn't describe the projects themselves all that much, but focuses instead on the external issues, like relationships between people on set. And the romantic plotline is very sweet when it appears but it's also clearly not the focus of the story (the ML doesn't even appear all that much 1st half of the novel ;-;), at least not until closer to the end, but even then, it's still not really the focus. Still, I think the author has a lot of good, interesting ideas and thoughts, and I think it's a pretty well-written and smart novel.

My main detractions stem from feeling like there were a few leftover strings to tie up (especially with some of the characters that appear in the beginning) and some parts that probably could have been cut or otherwise didn't add much to the overall story (e.g., characters and plotlines that feel like they've been thrown away halfway into the story/don't appear again until the very end). In other words, I agree that it could've been streamlined for sure. Because of that, it felt like the author had too many ideas and couldn't quite settle on one or two.

It's not really a novel I'd recommend to someone looking for a purely sweet, fluffy love story (although the couple is sweet), nor someone looking for an entertainment circle type read (he's an actor but I wouldn't say the focus is on that), nor someone looking for a pure face-slapping novel (because there ends up being so many people involved...I think it was hard for the author to deliver a satisfying "revenge" to everyone and some characters were a bit half/half that made it hard for me to completely hate them but they weren't good either... and I'm rambling). But it's definitely worth a try for everyone else, especially if you're looking for reads with a new twist.

As a whole, I enjoyed it quite a bit and found it a relatively refreshing read!

4.5/5 but I'll round up to pull ratings. <<less

For me this novel is okay. I wouldnt say that it is good but it is not that bad either.

They really drag this sh*t out. I think that the plot should be completed with only 150 or 180max chapters but they drag the plot till 300 plus chapters. I skip most of the chapters because it had many unneccesary scenes which really irritates me.

I wouldve given this only 3 stars but because of the translation and the cute relationship between the MC and ML I gave this 4. Im gonna... more>> persist and read what will happen next. I have come this far I cant back down. Lord have mercy

Maybe I will edit my review later after I complete the novel and I will wait for the translator to complete I dont want to mlt this boring novel because I dont want to torture my brain. <<less

I've just started but I'm not really feeling it. I find his childhood friends loyal but annoying. MC is too op. No one except the Shen family looks a little antagonistic. Everyone around the MC I find either annoying or am completely indifferent to.

so far its ok, but the author rly has an obsession with presenting the MC as some kind of walking s*x symbol and has the habit of mentioning the same information all the time and it gets very repetitive (is it for word count? But every single chapter we get the same info at some point, we get it author, no need to mention it a bizillion times). If I have to describe this novel, its ok to pass the time, like junk food, but not an amazing thing at... more>> all. <<less

Headache!

There no f*cking viciousness in the ret*rded character.

No revenge plot, just making circles around the plot and increasing character that are flouting over his talent, looks and future aspects.

There no antagonist in this f*cking revenge story 😂

I don't know what the f*ck MC (real one Sheng Yu) wants to do? There's no details about his character and chapter dedicated to him.

I would have understood stood if this story lead to a revenge plot but its not going anywhere near that.

unlike most of bl the MC is not too feminine thank god. not blushing with just some word. truly thankful. alittle dummy for romance our MC is. MC look more like a straight than gae. so. perfect. that's the shou I'm looking for not soft hearted. I'm tired of most shou protagonist blushing and clumsy meeting the ML heart beat faster for the first time blah blah blah... now my wish is fullfill. thank for translation. 😇
