After Transmigrating into a Novel, I Fell for the Male Lead

Lu Yiman was recommended a book by an advertisement, and the more he read, the more unsettled he felt.

The protagonist in the book was ordered by a powerful figure not to meet with anyone else, required to return home on time every day, could only see him, could only have him in his heart, and had to think about him for twenty-five hours a day out of twenty-four.

The protagonist felt tormented and longed to return to his “white moonlight.” So, he ran, the other chased, but escape was impossible.

The entire story was filled with criticism of the powerful figure’s forced love and the hope that the “white moonlight” would save the protagonist from such misery.

Lu Yiman didn’t do anything, but like a chosen one, a prompt suddenly appeared on his screen asking if he was willing to save the protagonist. After hesitating for a moment, he chose “yes,” and thus, he became the protagonist’s “white moonlight.”

A long time later, everyone was concerned about whether the protagonist had escaped from the powerful figure’s grasp.

Lu Yiman: “Thank you all, the powerful figure is now with me.”

I quite liked this novel, but from beginning to end, I had a hard time figuring out the MC. I've never read a book where I couldn't quite get a handle on one of the leads.

ML was much easier to understand. Clearly, both characters have issues, but MC was better at hiding it. He looks and acts like a nornal person, but he was so detached. The only person who really was able to get closer was ML. This is ironic because reading from the first few chapters, I thought... more>> it would end up the other way around.

Although I did enjoy their sweet moments together and their unhinged moments (yes, I enjoyed it a bit), the writing itself sometimes fell short. There were times when I was expecting more elaboration, only to be left hanging. Actually, there were a few of these. Also, the side characters were just always talking, which I thought was a bit annoying.

Overall, I give this one 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. Translation was really good. I did not stick around for the extras. It has a melancholy vibe and I now want sunshine and flowers sprinkled with unicorn powder. <<less

Ngl, I was pretty skeptical about all the reviews saying they were a match made in heaven based on the synopsis. I've read a good handful of obsessive ML stories. But this might be my first time reading a story with the MC being so much more obsessive, manipulative, and cunning than the ml. But it really was very wholesome in the end. Truly a match made in heaven. Had me kicking my feet and everything despite how cheesy some parts were. 10/10

Rating: 4.5 ⭐️

At that moment, Peng Duoduo thought, in this world, there could only be one Yu Chuang, and only one Lu Yiman. Yu Chuang could only be with Lu Yiman, and Lu Yiman could only be with Yu Chuang. — Chapter 49

It's about two broken people finding love in each other.

Their actions, which can be considered toxic in other relationships, are needs here.

Their twisted personalities/deep insecurities complement each other.

I don't know how to say more without spoiling it.

So, if you are not sensitive to flawed characters, give it a try.

Because, even though they are twisted, their love story is sweet. <<less

Honestly, I felt like I read this before and I realized that I did, like a long time ago but I didn't finished and thats becase of the amount of cringe moments in this.

Don't get me wrong, like, the characters are my cup of tea and their dynamics and personalities are really fleshed out, you can see the author loves their characters and really likes portraying emotionally unstable people, I really love that, it's just that this is a warning for people who prefer more mature kind of reading and... more>> not in the explicit sense, the author tends to do something of a umm, like a way an adolescent would try to write a serious novel, making escenarios an adult would never do.

Overall a 2 5, I have read more novels with the same thematic that handle certain aspects better, but I didn't want to give this a low rating so 3 stars is a good range, check this out, if you reach the 20 chapter and you still are on in the novel then 100% you gonna love it. <<less

I really like the idea of two people with their own toxic traits accepting eachother. Although I did have a difficult time understanding what MC was thinking it was like a perk and the ML he was kinda adorable can understand why MC liked him.╮ (̄▽ ̄) ╭ One of the novel in which I like ML more than MC because he was a cutie.

It's an alright story, though written quite immaturely. The author seems to be projecting all that she thinks is cool on the MC, to the point it feels like she's suffering from a bit of a chuuni issue. Naturally, this means the character comes off as a caricature more than an actual person.

The ML is quite cute and is actually written quite well as a representative of autistic personality, and is much more endearing than the MC.

The plot isn't really very important and the story is driven more by the... more>> manipulation and mind games of the MC than any actually relevant events. I do feel, given how smart MC supposedly is, both of them should have invested some in actually seeing a professional and tried out therapy and not just some medication for ML. MC especially would benefit from at least seeing if there's anything to help with his "emptiness" and apparent depression.

In short, this is more of an emotional line driven novel with not much story, quite immature writing and rather stereotypically gloomy cool MC, but still a readable and entertaining relationship if you want something a bit less wholesome or want to enjoy those teen telenovela feels. <<less

Never expected I'd love a yandere x psycho pairing as much as I did in this novel. And surprisingly, Lu Yiman (MC) and Yu Chuang (ML) really are perfect for each other, and their romance is... wholesome. Author cast magic, seriously.

The only bad remark I'm making is the fact author have the tendency to write some vague, difficult scenes that'll be explained in flashbacks in later chapters, causing some readers to go ??? at times, breaking immersion rather than adding mystery (which I think is author's intention). An example of... more>> this is

Peng Duoduo is the real MVP in this story! He's the only character I've read so far who discovered purely through his own observations that his friend has been replaced by the MC, yet decided to be a good friend to both the past and present Yiman. I cried spectacularly when he grieved for the loss of his friend. Not to mention, he's been supportive and thoughtful all throughout the story. AAHHHHH WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN MY WHOLE LIFEEE. SOMEONE PLS UNALIVE ME THEN REVIVE ME SO I COULD READ THIS THE FIRST TIME AGAINNN!!!

I have always looovveeee yandere, because the possessive and obsessive elements are what mostly makes up the formula of this one hell of a tag—which, this story, exactly have!!! Its both these two but executed within a rational and logical way, so the usual coercion, force, and other non-con stuff thats mostly attributed with yandere tag is omitted!!!

I mirror exactly what that one reviewer said, "This was everything i'd ever wanted in a book, everything (other) authors tried to do but FAILED" verbatim, whats more! IT. IS. MUTUAL kyaaaaaaa~ consent is sexyyy, reciprocation of feelings is sexxyyyy, mutal possessiveness and obsession is sexyyyyyyyy

I started reading this novel for the MC. I like Mc’s that are smart, cunning, manipulative and plot, infact you can say that anytime I go to read a novel, I expect all my mc’s to be like this.

But honestly I think I fell in love with the ML instead. All the pain he went through hurts me soo much. He’s so innocent, sweet, cute and I just love his character soo much, I’m so glad he found someone that loves him, gives him security and can match his crazy.

I... more>> wish them a happy and long lasting marriage 🤍.

Definitely give this a read if you’re looking for something just above rainbows and sunshine but below darkness and toxicity <<less

3.5. Ngl. This book needs an editor, needs more details sometimes while somehow feeling so long even though there's only 47 chapters. I don't hate it for the characters at all. I think they uniquely definitely are compatible to each other in their own twisted way. I think if I were to title this book I would call it, "Desire." Pretty much everyone in this novel even when they're being 2D and even when they're being slightly 3D, all have this as the main issue for their toxicity or traits.... more>> They always want more. But that's humanity I guess I don't know? Just only specific people get to this degree... Specifically, traumatized people with bad childhoods. Which could be relevant and true.

I think if anything that is knocking down my rating it's because the plot is a little long and tiring. Like the whole getting together part was interesting. But what the author uses to stroke the male leads jealousy and ultimately his need to hide The MC is a kind of plot device of
Spoiler

utilizing models that f*ck up somehow and always has to do with like a runway or a rehearsal. It happened twice. Okay so I think that's more than enough. Like once was okay. Twice with pretty much the same premise and same issue almost almost. It's like too much. It's really boring. And like the whole like you don't know who you're dealing with. You're just a small designer. Like that has been repeated I think over five times. Just waiting for a face slap but not even as satisfying face slap because the people who are these very generic villains are very generic and very 2D okay. So that's where I say like sometimes this book needs more detail. But at the same time this book needs an editor. Because somehow 47 chapters is way too long for some reason like it just feels way too long. And so my issue is not with our toxicity. Because it's interesting to read it. I think it makes for a unique experience especially because they're not technically trying to hurt anyone except for the original book character who like left really early on so it didn't really matter. But other than that, you know they're pretty toxic but only with each other and they accept each other so it's like not a big issue to me. I think there's just a part of me that is emotionally disassociated to that because I can't relate. I think I relate to the concept of desire though. Which is the prevalent theme here and which is why I would ultimately title a desire if I could. If it was a better written novel maybe it would just be a one-liner title. But anyways like I understand the concept that you want someone so much that maybe like a yandere you would want to hide them right and keep them but then it gets to a point when you actually start to love them you love them so much you're afraid of losing it so I get all those aspects. Do I think the execution was perfect? I don't know I mean this is a very unique take on it very very unique take on it. Very like toxic like what you would say I don't know it's kind of like a mix Of things.

[collapse]

So I think this book reminds me of a lot of different books and manghwas combined together. With an emphasis on The fact that both of the main characters are not you know good people or like standardly healthy relationships. They're all bad in their own way. But the way they're bad for each other is good for each other. And I accept that. I just don't accept the execution of this actual novel. I think the pacing could be better and the editing could be better and the writing could be better. But it also might be that I don't really have a kink for BD*M so I'm not really into it like other people would be lol. I'm not adverse to it I just literally I don't think it really adds much to the plot so then I get like bored. When I have to read it. This book kind of really reminds me of the manhwa of the yaoi pizza delivery one with I guess more toxicity between the traits of the main characters while everyone around them here is actually decent people unlike the manhwa. And considering how Fox like the main character is he really reminds me of the MC from the "my marriage partner is scheming" But again that one is way more healthy than this one is. But like the traits are kind of similar in the way they chase their partner very considerably and thoroughly without the other person knowing is similar to me in my opinion. I would give this a try if you are into characters like this, but otherwise I think this book could have been better but just miss the mark a little bit and felt weirdly enough too long.. Oh yeah this kind of also reminds me of like early 2000 Taiwanese dramatic romance drama but like set for two men. So there's a lot of that kind of drama as well you know so it's like kind of 2D sometimes. But the emotions between the two men and their issues are not 2D? I don't know I think ultimately it is a good book but I just got a little bored especially at the end.

Just two very emotionally dependent people In a relationship with each other happily. Honestly a pretty happy book by the end. A bit too dramatic for my taste but yeah.

Spoiler

Don't get me wrong I definitely like the book. The male lead is endearing in his own way for sure. I just think it could have been better you know just a little disappointing. The way I did not realize that the male lead was autistic holy sh*t like it was only when they referred to that in the 48th chapter that It all made sense. I guess that's why he was so reticent as a child. Did everyone know this did everyone realize this? Lol I swear they didn't mention this before right? I feel so dumb for not realizing that.

Giving 3 stars which is also a bit of a stretch for this. The writing as mentioned in other reviews as well is very immature. The story had a good setting which could have led to good twist and turns but there were really nothing happening.

Small things would take long descriptions to happen and even those descriptions were sometimes very weird and peculiar. The character description was also done every 2 para, to tell you how cool both the male leads are. "Even when he wasn't pale, when the light... more>> shined on him he looked pale, beautiful and ready to attack." Like what is this description?

The overall novel was a letdown for me but I still gave it a decent rating as I don't like to rate too low <<less

It's pretty fun, good to read when you need a story that isn't boring. Although it's only 40-ish chapters, each one is pretty long and packed. So reading this will take some time.

Spoiler

The ML isn't high-spec but more like high-autism and PTSD. The original protagonist leaves the scene around chapter 12, and then the MC graciously steps in to officially start with the ML. Their love is a kind of fishing - the MC fishes the ML, while the ML is a sweet and innocent type of brother. The MC is actually pretty devious.

What stood out to me for this novel is how they tackle the complexity of each character and their relationship with others. Although its sparse, its a short novel and the level of depth they managed to get it to is pretty great. There's some short coming in other aspects but overall its a pretty solid novel with lots of coaxing, teasing and a gentle-s*um like atmosphere.

I think this is the first translation that I've made the effort to read every week instead of waiting for it to be completely released. The synopsis was interesting, and I loved that the MC was clever and calm. Weirdly enough, I also like that he was a tad cold, because lately I've encountered too many MCs who fall easily or are too emotional. Everything I liked about the MC, Lu Yiman, is sort of what drew the ML, Yu Chuang, to him.

I truly felt like LY and YC were... more>> the perfect match due to their possessiveness and their emotional states. LY is controlled and subtly dominant, while YC suffers from a form of autism, so his emotional state is a bit erratic. YC likes being taken care of by LY and LY likes YC's somewhat immature responses/reactions. LY wants YC to be obsessed with him. He wants to be locked up my him and for YC to manage his time. He wants YC to be consumed with thoughts of him. It's an unhealthy healthy relationship.

I do have a few complaints though. The couple is what drew me to the book, but some chapters didn't include any interaction between the ML and MC. That made each chapter and each week of waiting unbearably long. I also think the author dropped the ball on the handling of the original protagonist, who YC was obsessed with, but disappeared and was never to be seen again. I would've liked for the protagonist to come back at the end, and I would've liked to have seen LY jealous. Why? Because of my third and final complaint. As much I loved how cunning and LY was, he played way too many games. Even when he knew YC was obsessed or in love with him, he still played hard to get and specifically did things to trigger YC. He rarely showed YC any emotion and it was like pulling teeth for him to say ILY to YC. Instead of LY simply telling YC that he wants YC to be completely obsessed with him, LY pushed YC to the edge, compelling YC to display his possessiveness. I kind of felt bad for YC because he tried so hard not to be overbearing because he feared LY running away like the original protagonist. I think LY could've at least provided some comfort or reassurance for YC.

Still, I liked this couple. They didn't ab*se each other, there were no intervening 3rd parties, and it was pretty low angst. Despite my complaints, I thought the MC and ML were adorable, especially the ML. YC, who was seen as this intimidating businessman, had this adorable, cute personality around the LY. With LY, YC was free from all the responsibilities weighing him down. He could just sit back, relax and simply enjoy being with LY. I loved that. <<less

Like give me 100 more chapters of them just living their lives and i'd be flipping satisfied.

I love the love, the obsession UGH the obsession and the emotions, usually its hard for authors to write where the shou is just as equally obsessed as the gong like I dont like me some possessive gong all the time! And thats what most authors go for so I love love love this, Trust me if you read this you will NOT be disappointed

While some of the things about mental health weren't done well, this story isn't really about therapy or characters following common sense frankly, it's more about two characters with very extreme mind sets and needs finding love and solace with each other. Not everything is tied up neatly by the end, but that also means this novel doesn't overstay its welcome. Honestly the MC was mysterious and intriguing and very fun to follow. The ML stays a mix of extreme and slightly flat which is how he was originally written... more>> in the story. His character was simple and so his thought process stays simple as well. While part of me wishes there was more: it also makes sense that his character role of single minded obsession in the OG story is what MC needed and desired himself. If he became cunning himself then the MC wouldn't be reassured either and their romance might never get to the perfect balance that it did by the end.

over all a very intense love story between a wounded wolf and a smiling tiger <<less

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I have a lot of emotions. (I have to agree that the story was drag out, the writing was a bit amateurish and confusing because it lacked editing, the romance is indeed toxic. But I still enjoyed it)

This read was not what I was expecting. The author successfully whitewashed the yandere protagonist and made me pity him because the MC was so blackbellied.

The characters

  • Yu Ziming. He was an ordinary weak individual. But I admire that he took hold of the lifeline handed to him and left the toxic environment.
  • Peng Zuozuo. Pitiful that he lost his real friend and his sincerity will never be fully reciprocated by MC.
  • Old man Yu. I need him to burn in the deepest pits of hell. He destroyed the Yu kids, not just the twins.
  • Yu Chuan. A very complex character. It's difficult for me to forgive him not seeking psychological help for his brother. Yu Chuang is a high functioning autistic person and with help, he could have learnt better ways to communicate, to romance, etc. Instead, Yu Chuan enabled the poor behaviour to feel needed and restricted his twin. At least he loved Yu Chuang enough to finally let him go.
The couple

Yu Chuang

  • I'm so conflicted. Was it better for him to still have work or for him to be a house husband following the whims of mc? I genuinely just wanted him to get professional help so he could express himself in a healthy manner.
Lu Yiman

  • Throughout the novel, I was confused whether he really liked Yu Chuang or whether he was just playing games. Even when they got together, he didn't let down his guard and continued to test ml. His decision to confess felt sudden.
You know the plot dragged out when true character development is only in the very last chapters and extras.

Spoiler

MC finally confessed and provided security to ml. He sought out psychological help for ML and helped him get off drugs. He didn't restrict ML and let him get a job. (I hope ml's social circle continues to expand).

B-tier (3.0 point)

What makes this story unique and stand out from the others due to the personality of both the main characters. Lu Yiman and Yu Chuang both broken people with very sad background, and this making them feel very insecure in life and love. Yu Chuang showed his love in an extreme way, while Lu Yiman is like a mad man when in love.

The reason it's B-tier for me is due to the writing. It could be due to the translation or it could be due to the... more>> way the author chose to told the story, but it's quite boring most of the time. It's just a wall of text explaining the situation but the interaction between the characters very minimum. The author might want to make the story look more "mature" but it's harder to digest with so little interaction. I'm usually one who likes to have long explanation, but this author style felt like they're explaining to the little details but with little substance.

Ending is very good so it also helped the score to be higher for me. It's one of those read that's not the best but not very bad for me. <<less

A story that doesn't spoonfeed you, so you have to pay close attention and analyze the characters carefully as you read.

For example, at first it will seem as if LY has always been in love with YC from the start.
Spoiler

This is not true. What he desired wasn't truly YC but the obsession that YC could offer. LY was desperate for someone to choose him and only him no matter what. Of course, later on, the more he lured YC to his grasp, the more he found himself sincerely attracted.

[collapse]

In fact, the real control freak is LY, as he's the one who can't stand even the tiniest detail and event spiraling out of his expectations and control. His issues stem from his other life, and the sense of non-belongingness that comes from transmigrating. He meticulously plans and acts so that everything falls into where he wants them to be. Of course, he gets better eventually, just as YC also learns to manage his emotions better.

There are other things that the author doesn't explicitly state and can only be gleaned from between the lines. I really appreciate this, as it means that we're not frequently subjected to walls of texts narrating and explaining the characters' every thought process.
